Amnesiac Yandere Ex-Wife Always Wants to Remarry - Chapter 7
Chapter 7: Got You.
“Mistress, it’s okay, I can help you purify, you won’t turn into an Anomaly…”
“No, Pingwu. This is the path I chose. I will take responsibility for it myself.”
“But Mistress, if Chunshan finds out about this, how do you expect her to accept it…”
“Pingwu, everyone has their own fate.”
In a daze, Xia Pingwu could only see the hand that was tightly gripping hers,
“Promise me, after you get out, don’t mention this to Chunshan.”
“Elder Sister! Elder Sister!”
Xia Pingwu woke up again, greeted by Ming Chunshan’s sweaty face.
She was leaning into her car window, breathing slightly, her eyes bright as she looked at her.
Xia Pingwu subconsciously covered her eyes, her thoughts slowly collecting. Only then did she realize.
She had intended to pick up Chunshan after half an hour, but had fallen asleep in her seat.
“I’m sorry, I missed the time…”
As Xia Pingwu spoke, the car door was pulled open from the outside by Ming Chunshan. Ming Chunshan squatted in front of her, clutching her hand tightly:
“I shouldn’t have left you here alone. You look pale. Did you have a nightmare?”
“A nightmare… I don’t really remember it after waking up. I was a little dizzy just now, so I opened the window. Don’t worry about me.”
Xia Pingwu turned her hand to hold Ming Chunshan’s palm, pulling her closer.
She looked at Ming Chunshan, and only when the latter finally slowed her breathing did she lean in to touch her forehead, then place a reassuring kiss there:
“You worked hard today. Let’s go home.”
The next moment, her move to turn around was halted by Ming Chunshan, who held her wrist and frowned:
“Elder Sister, you have a fever.”
Ming Chunshan straightened up, placed her hand on Xia Pingwu’s forehead, her tone firm and worried: “I’m taking you home right now.”
She suddenly stood up and quickly moved towards the driver’s seat. Xia Pingwu watched the tall figure walk past the car front, and took a deep, silent breath—
No, it must be because she was too hasty and used too much Anomaly power.
The matter with Ning Cong wasn’t settled yet; she couldn’t let Chunshan worry.
So, just as Ming Chunshan opened the car door, she heard Xia Pingwu look up, watching her earnestly:
“Don’t worry. I’ll be fine with a good rest back home. Even if it’s Anomaly power turbulence, we have the potent inhibitor.”
The potent inhibitor.
Ming Chunshan’s fingers tightened. Something was recalled, and she subconsciously wanted to frown, but she suppressed the impulse, only saying:
“Okay. The Combat Squad might be busy these next few days, but I’ll try my best to come home on time.”
Xia Pingwu was about to nod when she saw Ming Chunshan take a few deep breaths, seemingly brewing up something to say.
So, she made no movement, just watching her quietly.
Finally, Ming Chunshan spoke:
“I will try hard to kill all the Anomalies, just like you… and how Mother used to hope.”
“Good.” Xia Pingwu nodded seriously, then lowered her head to tidy the satchel she had brought out.
Because of this, she didn’t see Ming Chunshan’s gaze still fixed on her—
…She will also work hard for the day when she can be by her side forever.
And at that time, with no Anomaly to worry Elder Sister, Elder Sister could stay with her all the time.
Ming Chunshan subconsciously leaned in closer. Xia Pingwu noticed her movement, paused for a moment, and wrapped her arms around Ming Chunshan’s waist:
“Alright, come give me a hug.”
With her movement, a small object was once again gently affixed to her.
After arriving home, Ming Chunshan didn’t linger. She watched Xia Pingwu get into bed, checked the home’s provisions and reserves back and forth, and then left the house.
Ming Chunshan was inspecting the site of the last battle with the Anomaly.
She hoped to find more clues and recall more details.
Although the Bureau of Anomalies detection station had been there several times, she was uneasy. After all, that Anomaly not only had a consciousness but also accurately called out her name.
And the situation was too complicated then; she couldn’t be sure of her judgment…
Because, she actually thought the Anomaly’s voice and appearance resembled… Ning Cong.
A more intense sense of unease spread across Ming Chunshan’s chest.
“Team Leader! The detection station has found that thing’s hiding place!”
Suddenly, Mao Xiqing rushed over from behind, her voice so urgent that it made Ming Chunshan flinch. She turned around to see Mao Xiqing right in front of her.
“She’s hiding not far underground near the boundary. Imaging shows she seems to be digging a tunnel.”
Digging a tunnel?
Ming Chunshan was already walking back with Mao Xiqing, still unable to resist asking: “Can we tell where she’s trying to go?”
Mao Xiqing didn’t answer.
After all, few people believed an Anomaly could have a consciousness, focusing only on using the detector to find its trace. It was even less likely they would consider where it wanted to dig.
Ming Chunshan realized this too, and didn’t ask further, only quickly following the convoy to the discovery site.
The discovery site had been cordoned off. The detection station reported that the Anomaly seemed to have sensed it was found, and the digging speed had begun to accelerate rapidly.
But at the same time, countless inhibitors were delivered from the Bureau of Anomalies and injected underground, significantly suppressing the Anomaly’s movements.
On the detection screen, it finally realized it was a trapped beast, fruitlessly circling back and forth.
Ming Chunshan was tired of watching it try to find a solution. She took the long gun from her back and slammed it heavily into the ground!
Then, as she moved, a surge of Anomaly power spread out, instantly making the ground “rustle” and shake. After that, the detection station immediately began to scream sharply.
The Anomaly finally stopped resisting and shot straight up, bursting out of the ground!
Everyone was fully prepared. A net of capture woven with steel and power descended, firmly binding it in place.
Ming Chunshan closed her eyes in restrained frustration, walked up a few steps, but stopped at a distance, asking the question that had been haunting her:
“What did you want to say to me?”
Mao Xiqing beside her looked worriedly at Ming Chunshan but didn’t interrupt her.
The next moment, a muted “cackle” sounded. Then, the Anomaly slowly stood up from the ground, and slowly opened its mouth.
“Bang.”
A short, sharp gunshot.
A stench of rot rushed toward her, and splashing pieces of flesh immediately smeared Ming Chunshan’s face.
The squad members in the back only saw their Team Leader suddenly begin to tremble. Team Leader Ming, usually as steady as a mountain, was shaking so much that her shoulders were constantly heaving.
Only the “person” slowly slid down from the net and landed on the ground with a “thud.”
The change came too fast. Even Ruan Zhujun, who was on standby at the Bureau of Anomalies, sensed something was wrong:
“…Ming Chunshan, what happened?”
Ming Chunshan didn’t say a word.
Ruan Zhujun frowned and asked someone else: “Mao Xiqing, why did you fire without authorization?”
She could see the Anomaly’s lips beginning to move. Although she couldn’t see as clearly as Ming Chunshan and the others, there should have been no danger.
So what was going on?
With two sudden incidents in a row, Ruan Zhujun also began to realize something was amiss.
There was no response in the communication earpiece, and the camera feed hadn’t changed.
She was about to ask, when she saw Ming Chunshan suddenly move.
In the open containment ground, Ming Chunshan raised her long gun high and, as if out of control, smashed it toward Mao Xiqing!
A chorus of startled shouts rang out, only to see the gun stock crash heavily into the ground, scraping past Mao Xiqing’s cheek and kicking up a cloud of dust and stones.
“Team Leader Ming! Team Leader Ming!” Calls rose one after another, but Ming Chunshan seemed not to hear them, running away like a flash of lightning.
Then, she jumped into the car, not even bothering with the remaining team members, and slammed down the accelerator.
“Ming Chunshan! You haven’t regrouped yet! Where are you going!”
Ruan Zhujun’s voice transmitted deafeningly through the earpiece, making Ming Chunshan’s eardrums ache. She gripped the steering wheel, her fingers involuntarily twitching:
“…You take people to clear the battlefield. The detection station hasn’t found any new signals. The pollution value has returned to low.”
The car sharply rounded a corner, the floored accelerator nearly causing a rollover in the dark street.
Ming Chunshan felt dizzy, and even the voice in the earpiece was hard to hear:
“…Ming Chunshan, did that Anomaly say something to you?”
The question was like a heavy hammer, shattering Ming Chunshan’s composure. She trembled, her voice nearly broken:
“…No.
“I just need to go back… go back to Elder Sister.
“Elder Sister is sick. I need to go back and take care of her.
“You handle the rest.”
It was a clumsy excuse.
Ruan Zhujun on the other end of the earpiece frowned, but her mind turned, and she immediately stopped herself:
“…There’s no rush. You have to come back first and hand in the team log. It needs to be uploaded to the system in three hours.
“If you don’t submit it, the Bureau of Anomalies will be hounding your house.
“You don’t want people from the Bureau of Anomalies to meet Pingwu, do you?”
She still didn’t know what had happened to Ming Chunshan. She needed to clue in Pingwu first.
If Ming Chunshan found out Pingwu was secretly interfering with the Bureau of Anomalies business, it would be troublesome.
Ruan Zhujun was thinking this while keeping an ear on the movement on the other side.
Ming Chunshan seemed to have calmed down; her breathing was less frantic, but she didn’t answer immediately.
At the same time, a fierce alarm suddenly blared in the Bureau of Anomalies. Someone was frantically banging on Ruan Zhujun’s door frame:
“Bad news, Team Leader Ruan! That Anomaly faked its death and is now rampaging in the dungeon!”
The dungeon?
Ruan Zhujun’s head immediately “buzzed,” and she instinctively stood up:
“Immediately transfer all medium and low-risk personnel in the dungeon! Then have Qiao Lang aerosolize all backup inhibitors! Remember, do not kill her unless absolutely necessary!”
Her words were immediately heard by Ming Chunshan on the other side.
The next moment, before Ruan Zhujun could react, the sound of a car rapidly U-turning rang out in her earpiece.
Ming Chunshan had changed direction and was heading toward the Bureau of Anomalies.
The Dungeon.
Before long, Ming Chunshan’s footsteps sounded near Ruan Zhujun.
The newcomer’s steps were heavy, signaling her almost irrepressible emotion. When the door was pushed open, Ruan Zhujun almost thought she was going to throw something at her ear.
Ruan Zhujun forcefully grabbed Ming Chunshan’s arm: “Calm down! What’s wrong with you lately, like you’ve eaten a firecracker?”
Ming Chunshan panted, turning to glare fiercely at Ruan Zhujun. Ruan Zhujun didn’t indulge her, sticking her neck out: “What, are you going to hit me with your gun too?”
This actually worked. Ming Chunshan “humphed” and said nothing, only lowering her voice: “Put Mao Xiqing in the solitary room. She is not to be released until I return.”
Ruan Zhujun immediately lowered her voice: “What exactly happened?”
Ming Chunshan’s face darkened. Qiao Lang just happened to walk up at this moment, nodding to Ruan Zhujun: “We finally suppressed her.”
“When can she wake up?” Ming Chunshan cut in. “I have something to ask her.”
Qiao Lang glanced at her, her tone flat: “Wait a moment.”
Ruan Zhujun hadn’t forgotten the earlier question, pressing again: “What exactly happened?”
“That thing… seems to know Elder Sister,” Ming Chunshan replied, then stepped forward first.
Ruan Zhujun immediately followed, and suddenly heard someone’s footsteps stop nearby.
She glanced sideways and saw Gu Ce standing nearby, clutching something in her hand.
Did she have a document to sign right now?
She subconsciously reached out, but heard Gu Ce whisper:
“Team Leader Ruan, this is a document Deputy Xia sent to Team Leader Ming. It just arrived. It seems urgent, and we didn’t dare open it.”
They were wives; they could just call each other if anything was urgent. Why resort to sending a document…
What was going on with Pingwu?
At the same time, Ming Chunshan turned back, alert: “Elder Sister? What about Elder Sister?”
Ruan Zhujun composed herself and slowly handed the envelope over.
She had already sent her subordinate to clear the battlefield. Anyway, Ming Chunshan had said it wasn’t a big deal.
But what puzzled her most was why Pingwu would suddenly send a document in the middle of the night.
She hadn’t even had time to call Pingwu yet.
Ming Chunshan on the opposite side didn’t know Ruan Zhujun’s many thoughts. She accepted it steadily, and after seeing the familiar handwriting on the envelope, she tried to rub her forehead, suppressing the temper visible in her eyes.
Then, she took a slight breath, controlled her strength to tear open the envelope, and gently drew out the contents.
“Team Leader Ruan, we’ve reached the cell,” Qiao Lang reminded from the front.
But Ruan Zhujun, who was secretly watching Ming Chunshan’s actions, didn’t immediately respond, even pausing slightly.
Not just because of the sudden change.
But because the paper Ming Chunshan drew out had five bold characters printed prominently at the top.
“DIVORCE AGREEMENT”
