Amnesiac Yandere Ex-Wife Always Wants to Remarry - Chapter 8
Chapter 8: Xia Pingwu… Die.
The fingers gripping that piece of paper instantly tightened. Ming Chunshan’s features completely darkened, and the low pressure surrounding her made Ruan Zhujun unsure of what to do.
Qiao Lang was already walking back with a frown. The other team members guarding various posts were also looking over, but the “DIVORCE AGREEMENT” here felt hotter to the touch.
Ruan Zhujun’s mind finally started slowly turning. The first thought that popped up was.
This Anomaly is indeed tricky. It even faked its death. I wonder if Pingwu knows about the situation here.
But… precisely because of this, Pingwu should also know that this is a critical period. Even if they had some irreconcilable conflict with Ming Chunshan, she wouldn’t bring it up at this time.
Anxiously, Ruan Zhujun caught sight of Ming Chunshan already turning to the last page of the divorce agreement, revealing the signature at the end.
The handwriting was elegant and clear: Xia Pingwu’s script.
In that instant, Ming Chunshan’s shoulders and neck were practically rigid, and the muscles in her arm were taut from suppressing her fury, showing a faint tremor.
Ruan Zhujun was alarmed and decided to break the tension: “Ming Chunshan, you can make a call first. I’ll handle the Anomaly…”
Suddenly, Ming Chunshan moved.
There was a crisp “whoosh” sound. The paper, already somewhat crumpled from being clenched, was instantly crushed into a paper ball, tightly held in Ming Chunshan’s hand. Then, she turned and walked into the cell.
The cell walls were lined with darts coated in high-strength tranquilizers, aimed directly at the restraints reinforced with Anomaly power in the center.
The Anomaly was severely injured and firmly confined. It was already sprawled on the ground, unable to move, with only continuous whimpering sounds escaping from the corners of its lips.
But it wasn’t giving up.
It kept its eyes wide open, staring at the cell door, as if waiting for someone to appear.
And then, that person appeared.
Ming Chunshan pushed the door open and immediately saw the Anomaly lying on the ground. She didn’t stop, not even greeting the team members guarding the entrance, but marched straight in with her crackling leather boots, arriving in front of the Anomaly.
She crouched down, leaned in, all in one smooth motion.
The people around her mostly knew that Ming Chunshan had just violently lashed out at Mao Xiqing. For a moment, no one dared to approach, so they retreated to the doorway, waiting for Ming Chunshan’s command.
Ming Chunshan seemed oblivious. She met the Anomaly’s eyes:
“Just now, you called Elder Sister’s name… What do you know about Elder Sister?
“Don’t try to deceive me. I have plenty of ways to make you tell the truth.”
Perhaps the oppressive posture of Ming Chunshan leaning in was too much. The Anomaly slightly parted its mouth, seemingly about to speak.
The next moment, the Anomaly’s cold sneer intensified. Its sharp fangs flashed, and it moved as if to bite Ming Chunshan’s artery.
The chains clattered, making a deafening noise. Its mouth stretched into a terrifying arc, baring its teeth and hissing for breath.
“You’re asking for death.” The long-suppressed emotions finally found an outlet. Ming Chunshan abruptly stood up, twisted her wrist, and fiercely stuffed the fist clutching the divorce agreement into the Anomaly’s mouth!
Then, with a force, she made the Anomaly involuntarily dry-heave, its eyes rolling up, staring intently at the person standing up.
Ming Chunshan stood straight, her spine taut like a longbow, filled with boundless emotion: “I’ll ask again, is your target Elder Sister?
She paused, her voice slightly lowered, as if contained between her teeth: “And who… are you?”
The Anomaly could barely stand now, relying on the chains, but it suddenly seemed to relax, sizing up Ming Chunshan, even showing a hint of contempt.
Its speech was unclear, but Ming Chunshan could hear it say:
“Xia Pingwu… die.”
She felt that in that instant, she didn’t think at all. Her hand simply clenched with power, and she delivered another fierce punch.
The Anomaly’s physique had mostly evolved incredibly, but Ming Chunshan’s strength seemed to be greater than theirs. The punch made the Anomaly’s body sway, about to fall.
Then, Ming Chunshan pulled the door open with her backhand. Ruan Zhujun, who had been listening at the door for a long time, brought her gun to the front. A burst of bullets hit the Anomaly. It stiffened for a few seconds, then fell silent.
This time, Ruan Zhujun was smarter. She immediately signaled people to check the Anomaly’s life signs, then turned to Ming Chunshan, asking: “Going back right away?”
Ming Chunshan glanced at her, clearly uninterested in answering such an obvious question, and went straight to business:
“I’ll write the report tomorrow.”
Ruan Zhujun didn’t have time to respond before she saw the person jump into the car with furious speed and zoom off like a flash of lightning.
Wait a minute, hadn’t Ming Chunshan changed out of her battle suit yet?
Inside the car.
Ming Chunshan irritably pressed harder on the accelerator. The sense of unease climbed like a vine. She didn’t want to consider the worst outcome, but her hand couldn’t help but reach for the phone at her waist.
Damn it. She left the Bureau of Anomalies too quickly. She didn’t even have time to change her battle suit, and her phone wasn’t on her.
Her agitation worsened. She floored the accelerator.
As the whistling wind rushed past both sides, Ming Chunshan’s thoughts spun rapidly.
Everything was fine when she left home. Why would Elder Sister suddenly send her a divorce agreement?
What exactly happened in between?
…Damn it. If she hadn’t worried about Elder Sister’s feelings, she definitely would have installed a camera in the bedroom!
Just as she was thinking, the familiar building finally appeared. Ming Chunshan spun the car to a stop. Ignoring the bloodstains that hadn’t dried on her, she hurried towards the house.
Only Bureau of Anomalies personnel lived here, so she wasn’t afraid of being seen.
Her steps involuntarily quickened, echoing loudly in the stairwell in the early morning.
The elevator was too slow. Ming Chunshan sprinted up the stairs. After a few turns, her steps finally halted.
Ming Chunshan looked up at her familiar front door.
The door was tightly closed, adorned with cliché spring couplets—trite, but the warmest kind of blessing.
But the person inside… had probably already left.
After all, even the divorce agreement was sent to the Bureau of Anomalies, clearly a tactic to buy time.
Ming Chunshan took a deep breath and opened the front door.
Silence. The layout and furnishings were exactly as she had left them. Even the dimness…
Dimness?
Ming Chunshan narrowed her eyes at the light seeping from the crack under the bedroom door, slightly frowning.
As she neared the bedroom, Ming Chunshan involuntarily softened her steps. She belatedly realized this habit, smiled mockingly at herself, and then pushed open the bedroom door.
In the gentle, warm yellow light, someone was slightly bowed, gazing at something on the desk.
Hearing the movement, that person slightly turned their head, meeting the gaze of Ming Chunshan at the door.
The eyes were clear, almost exactly the same as they were years ago.
In that instant, Ming Chunshan nearly suffocated.
It was Elder Sister.
She hadn’t left.
Xia Pingwu didn’t speak.
Her gaze swept over Ming Chunshan, then she straightened her body.
She turned completely towards Ming Chunshan.
The two stood facing each other.
Then Ming Chunshan abruptly looked away.
She didn’t know why, but even though Xia Pingwu was right in front of her, the unease in her heart only grew, making her lack the courage to even meet Xia Pingwu’s eyes.
She averted her gaze, letting it wander aimlessly, then it fell upon the desk.
The exact spot Xia Pingwu had been looking at.
Two photos lay there.
One was their wedding photo.
Leaning beside it was an old group photo, clearly showing the passage of time.
The teenage Xia Pingwu and Ming Chunshan stood shoulder to shoulder, wearing identical Bureau of Anomalies combat suits, their expressions full of wildness and arrogance.
Behind them was the slightly smiling leader of the Bureau of Anomalies Combat Squad.
Xia Pingwu’s Mistress, and Ming Chunshan’s Mother.
Unfortunately, seven years had passed.
Ming Chunshan instinctively zoned out. All her emotions were suppressed to the extreme, giving rise to an absurd sense of emptiness:
Seven years. They were a harmonious couple. Even with occasional friction, they wouldn’t reach the point of divorce.
There must be some hidden reason she hadn’t considered.
But Elder Sister was never impulsive. Once she acted, there was no room for reversal.
So, regardless of the hidden reason, would she still give herself a chance to explain now?
Amidst myriad thoughts, a pale finger suddenly landed on the frame of the wedding photo.
Unbeknownst to her, Xia Pingwu had lowered her head and started speaking while rubbing the photo.
She said:
“…I didn’t think you secretly made these things.
“But with the Anomaly threat unresolved, I haven’t considered dating.”
Ming Chunshan’s gaze froze, her eyes instantly fixed on Xia Pingwu as if with physical substance.
Her long, curled hair covered her ears, concealing her slightly exposed collarbone, and also obscuring Xia Pingwu’s expression.
Though Ming Chunshan couldn’t discern her expression, she could hear the emotion in her voice.
A bit of confusion, but more, a sense of satisfaction.
She hadn’t heard that kind of emotion in Elder Sister’s voice for a long time.
And what did Elder Sister say? Dating? What dating?
Ming Chunshan subconsciously reached for the tools at her waist. After a few seconds of hesitation, she slowly took a step, asking in a low voice: “Elder Sister, what are you talking about?”
“I’m talking about this… photo.”
One of Xia Pingwu’s hands was still rubbing the wedding photo, but the other involuntarily pinched the hem of her clothes, her voice uncharacteristically stumbling,
“I didn’t think your photo editing skills were so good. Honestly, if I didn’t know I hadn’t taken it, I would truly think…”
Xia Pingwu didn’t finish her sentence, but a terrifying guess had already formed in Ming Chunshan’s mind.
Ming Chunshan rushed up a few steps. Before she could grab the shoulders of the person in front of her, Xia Pingwu had already turned her finger, pointing it towards the other photo:
“Was this… the one we took when we entered the Academy as new students yesterday?”
Yesterday? Entering the Academy as new students?
Ming Chunshan’s fingers stiffened.
At this point, Xia Pingwu also scanned Ming Chunshan up and down, her voice growing more confused:
“Why do you look so disheveled? Did you… secretly go on a mission with Mistress?”
Ming Chunshan subconsciously took a step back: “…No. Stay right here. I’ll change my clothes and come explain to you.
She stared at Xia Pingwu and repeated: “Wait here. I’ll be right back.”
Xia Pingwu didn’t move. In fact, when Ming Chunshan returned, she was still standing in the same posture.
Even when Ming Chunshan explained that this was the world ten years in the future, her expression didn’t change:
From the point in time Xia Pingwu remembered.
The point when Chunshan was still her “shadow”.
Ten years had passed.
Three years after that, the major war erupted, and Mistress died.
Immediately following that, Ming Chunshan confessed, and they married.
Until today, seven years later.
Xia Pingwu was silent for a long time. When she spoke again, what came out was:
“Mistress… is dead.”
She paused:
“Can I go see her?”
Then, Xia Pingwu took the opportunity to look up, closely examining the increasingly mature woman in front of her.
The passage of time had left indelible, yet not harsh, marks on Ming Chunshan. It allowed her to retain the tenderness of her youth while adding a touch of sharpness.
She watched Ming Chunshan look back at her. After hearing her words, Ming Chunshan paused slightly, then chuckled softly:
“Mother’s death anniversary just passed. You’ve already visited to pay your respects.
“Don’t worry. She died on the battlefield she loved most she saved many people.”
“Then…” The Xia Pingwu from ten years ago stared at Ming Chunshan. She didn’t realize it herself, but Ming Chunshan could clearly see the tiny fragments of light in her eyes. “Did we… get married?”
Ming Chunshan’s breath caught. She instinctively explained: “Mistress’s last wish was for us to depend on each other.”
She didn’t know if it was her imagination, but Ming Chunshan felt that for an instant, Xia Pingwu’s eyes dimmed.
But then, she returned to normal, only pointing at herself:
“What about me? What’s my condition now?”
“You… that war left you with the aftereffect of Anomaly power turbulence, so you’re undergoing treatment… but don’t worry, you’ll get better soon.” Ming Chunshan gestured to the walls on both sides.
The machines have been retracted now. It looks like Elder Sister had gotten up at some point.
Why did she do that?
On the other side, Xia Pingwu nodded, looking around the room: “Then, this… is our residence?”
“It’s our home,” Ming Chunshan corrected, instinctively reaching out to take her hand, but stopping midway. She only said, “It’s getting late. Let’s sleep first. Can we discuss the rest tomorrow?”
Everything came too suddenly. She needed time to process it.
And… she didn’t want to see Elder Sister’s slightly disappointed look again.
Xia Pingwu nodded again, surprisingly compliant.
Then, as if remembering something, she looked back at the bed she had just slept in: “We sleep here together, right?”
It was very spacious and warm. It must be their master bedroom where they slept together.
Thinking this, she directly sat down and patted the bed:
“Then go take a shower. I’ll wait for you here.”
Ming Chunshan was immediately stunned. She pointed at the bed, struggling to suppress a stutter:
“Only you sleep here.
“The guest room is next door. I’ll go take a shower. I’ll be sleeping there for a while.”
Chunshan looks so reserved.
Xia Pingwu smiled inwardly without showing it. Then, she crawled back into the bed: “Okay, then you sleep well next door.”
She paused, her tone teasing: “Good Chunshan, you’ve certainly grown up. You’re not afraid of the dark anymore.”
Ming Chunshan stood still at the doorway. She leaned gently against the door, staring at Xia Pingwu lying on the bed with a fond look. She slightly pursed her lips, wanting to casually “humph” like she used to, but her nose and heart felt too sour and congested, as if something was blocking her, leaving her motionless for a long time.
Seemingly noticing Ming Chunshan’s pause, Xia Pingwu turned her head in confusion, considering: “…Do you need to get another blanket?”
Her expression was truly too endearing. Ming Chunshan couldn’t help but laugh. She reached out and lightly brushed Xia Pingwu’s hair, then shook her head and whispered:
“Elder Sister.”
Xia Pingwu focused her gaze on her.
Ming Chunshan didn’t answer. Her fingertip just pressed a little deeper.
Xia Pingwu, however, looked suddenly enlightened. She smiled slightly, the light outlining her gentle face, as if tempting her: “Are you really not going to sleep with me?”
