Marrying the Ugly Woman of a Rich and Powerful Family - Chapter 6
The class bell rang.
The old professor took a sip of hot water to clear his throat and unhurriedly turned on the projector. The noisy classroom instantly quieted the moment the professor spoke.
The students were quietly engaged in various activities: playing with phones, reading novels, or playing games. Only a minority seated in the front row were listening attentively.
The course was Ancient Chinese Language. Shen Qingyuan sat up straight, intending to study seriously, and listened carefully for half the class, but she felt dizzy and confused.
The old professor spoke indistinctly, as if he had a mouthful of phlegm, occasionally interspersed with two sentences in a local dialect.
Shen Qingyuan felt she hadn’t understood a thing. The sensation was like having her ears stuffed with cotton—she could hear the external sounds but couldn’t make out the words clearly.
She reached under the desk for her phone, seeing that many people had theirs openly on the desk, with two books placed next to them as a cover-up. She followed suit.
Li Xinyan, who had been observing Shen Qingyuan, raised her head and poked Mu Qing, who was reading an extracurricular book, with her index finger.
Mu Qing closed her book and turned around, puzzled.
“She’s finally back to normal,” Li Xinyan wrote these words on a scratch paper and pushed it toward Mu Qing. She felt this Shen Qingyuan was normal: playing games and reading novels in class, instead of patiently listening to the lecture.
Mu Qing pursed her lips and shook her head.
Li Xinyan turned back to look. Shen Qingyuan had already opened her browser, searched for a course explanation, and was now seriously studying the corresponding PowerPoint presentation.
Li Xinyan: “…”
The old professor didn’t enforce classroom discipline at all. Only when the whispers below got too loud for him would he widen his eyes and furrow his brows, reminding them to be quiet.
After two class periods, Li Xinyan packed her bag and turned to ask Shen Qingyuan, “Are you going back to the dorm?”
They only had this one class today.
Cang Yan even cared about Shen Qingyuan’s grades; she might also care if she went home. This was less like marrying a wife and more like gaining a mother.
Shen Qingyuan organized her books and nodded, saying, “Yes.”
On the way back to the dorm, Li Xinyan hesitated repeatedly before finally seeking confirmation from Shen Qingyuan, “Qingyuan, is Cang Yan fiercer than the rumors say?”
Shen Qingyuan was busy memorizing the names of the roads and buildings. Hearing the question, she wondered, “Why do you say that?”
“Look at you, someone who never liked studying, suddenly loves studying after marriage. How long has it been? Only one day! In one day, you’ve changed completely…”
Shen Qingyuan’s eyes darkened slightly, contemplating an excuse to deflect the question. Li Xinyan continued, “Your personality isn’t as lively as before. You must have been traumatized by Cang Yan.”
Shen Qingyuan didn’t refute, only vaguely saying, “People always change, don’t they?”
Li Xinyan didn’t believe it. She pulled Shen Qingyuan and Mu Qing onto a side path and said, “Oh, you don’t need to be so cautious and try to hide it from us. There are no outsiders here. You already offended her by writing fanfiction about Cang Yan online. We all thought you’d receive a lawyer’s letter, but she not only didn’t blame you, she suddenly wanted to marry you. Don’t you think that’s weird?”
“It is weird.” Shen Qingyuan also couldn’t figure it out.
Li Xinyan’s imagination ran wild, saying without a clear thought process, “Do you think she has a secret crush on you?”
Shen Qingyuan: “…”
She could definitely say no to that. If Cang Yan truly had a crush, she wouldn’t have had the heart to drip wax on her. Furthermore, their family backgrounds were too disparate, and the age gap was large; they were practically from different worlds. How could Cang Yan have a secret crush on the original owner?
She would rather believe Cang Yan desired her body than that she had a secret crush.
“Actually, with Cang Yan’s family being so rich, marrying her isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it’s just that she’s not good-looking,” Li Xinyan’s words became increasingly outrageous. “But you can treat it like being kept by a rich sugar mommy, and the wax dripping is just a fetish. Just don’t let it be too much of a psychological burden.”
She still felt that Shen Qingyuan’s sudden personality change was influenced by Cang Yan. Constantly being threatened with wax dripping sounded quite terrifying.
“Stop right there.” Shen Qingyuan cut her off.
Li Xinyan obediently closed her mouth but was still curious, saying, “Then tell me, is she fierce or not?”
Shen Qingyuan didn’t give a direct answer, only emphasizing, “Anyway, I’m going to study hard and strive to be first in my major.”
Li Xinyan shook her head regretfully, “This child is beyond saving.”
She was truly scared into studying hard by Cang Yan.
Shen Qingyuan thus successfully muddled her way through the roommate hurdle. Since she had a different soul inside, instead of being secretive, it was better to openly find a reason for her personality change. Anyway, they were just roommates, not intimate relationships. It wouldn’t be a big deal if they noticed, at most they would just feel they didn’t know her well.
However, the thought of living with several people in their early twenties gave Shen Qingyuan a headache. There was a genuine generation gap. She might as well apply to be a commuter and live at home.
The dorm was in Guiyuan Building 15, Room 419. It was a four-person room with bunk beds and desks underneath, and each bed had curtains installed.
As soon as Shen Qingyuan entered the dorm, she saw the bed in the southwest corner heavily covered by black curtains. She inexplicably felt that was her spot. Sure enough, Li Xinyan and Mu Qing were sitting at their respective desks, leaving that space empty.
Shen Qingyuan pretended to walk over skillfully. The desk was messy, cluttered with a gaming laptop, keyboard, and mouse.
Shen Qingyuan tidied up the desktop. She climbed the bed, pulled back the curtains, and saw, oh boy, the bed was like a pigsty.
The quilt was unfolded, clothes were haphazardly piled at the foot of the bed, and a small table, charger, iPad, and keyboard were tightly squeezed among the clothes.
Shen Qingyuan saw that it was still early, only four o’clock, and no one was sleeping. She took off her shoes, climbed onto the bed, and started organizing the bedding.
A sarcastic voice suddenly came from behind her: “Oh, who is it? Coming to school on the second day of marriage. Didn’t they say Cang Yan was a violent maniac? Looks like you weren’t played to death last night.”
Tang Zhijing mockingly stuck her head out.
Shen Qingyuan tilted her head and glanced at her. Again, the skin color and features matched the aesthetic here. According to the local standard, this should also count as a beauty. Why was she so idle as to coldly mock an ordinary person like her?
She probably had a grudge against the original owner.
Shen Qingyuan turned her head, pretending not to hear, and continued to organize her bedding.
The bed was a mess, with clothes and pants thrown everywhere. The dorm space was also small, making the cleanup a little awkward.
“Hmph, who are you trying to fool?” Tang Zhijing rolled her eyes and closed her curtains again.
Shen Qingyuan finished cleaning, resulting in a large bag of trash.
Li Xinyan asked, “Qingyuan, are you going to the cafeteria for dinner?”
Shen Qingyuan had been busy all day and hungry all day, not even having breakfast. She was about to nod when her phone suddenly vibrated. It was an unfamiliar number.
Shen Qingyuan answered uncertainly, afraid she might not be able to answer the caller’s questions. She didn’t speak for a while, but the other party seemed more patient than her.
Shen Qingyuan had no choice but to speak first, tentatively asking, “Hello?”
“You are staying home tonight.” Cang Yan’s clear and pleasant voice abruptly entered her ear. Shen Qingyuan flinched and subconsciously moved the phone away from her ear.
“What did you say?” She had assumed she would stay at school tonight.
Cang Yan repeated herself impatiently, her voice slightly clipped, “You are staying home tonight. I don’t want news of our discord spreading right after we got married. Even if it’s a contract marriage, you should be responsible for it.”
“Oh.” Shen Qingyuan wanted to ask if a driver would pick her up, but the call had already ended.
She always felt Cang Yan had ill intentions.
Was she planning to drip wax again?
Shen Qingyuan’s back involuntarily shivered.
Li Xinyan made an exaggerated mouth shape on the side, asking, “Was that Cang Yan?”
Shen Qingyuan nodded and said, “It was her. Sorry, I can’t go to dinner with you guys.”
“Understood.” Li Xinyan still felt something was strange. Shen Qingyuan was too polite to them. Shen Qingyuan clearly wasn’t like this before. Cang Yan was truly terrifying, able to scare a hedgehog into a gentle white rabbit.
When Shen Qingyuan walked out of the school gate, the car that had dropped her off in the morning was already parked outside. Since it was a free ride, Shen Qingyuan comfortably enjoyed the pick-up service. By the time she reached the villa, she was mentally prepared for the possibility of wax dripping, though she was determined not to surrender without a fight.
In the living room, Cang Yan was the same as usual, lazily nestled in the sofa, except that there was an exquisite wooden box on the table in front of her.
Shen Qingyuan felt the places where wax had been dripped hurt even more.
Why did she have to come back?
Cang Yan was holding her phone, poking at the screen, and said, “The funds for your family company have been transferred and should be operating normally soon. If you’re concerned, you can call and check.”
Shen Qingyuan nodded nonchalantly. When she had looked up Cang Yan’s profile earlier, she had also checked the Cang Group.
The Cang Group was an industry giant in high-end precision instruments. Because it held core technology, it had virtually no domestic competitors. The instruments it produced were supplied to major university labs, research institutes, biotech companies, internet companies… some were even exported abroad. Thus, the Cang Group was linked to many industries.
It sounded incredibly wealthy.
They certainly wouldn’t lie to her about money.
Shen Qingyuan responded lazily, “Oh.”
She was so hungry she was almost out of energy to speak.
Her perfunctoriness caused Cang Yan’s delicate eyebrows to furrow. She finally moved her gaze from the phone, staring at Shen Qingyuan. The stare made Shen Qingyuan feel inexplicably uneasy, wondering what Cang Yan was plotting.
“Fanfiction,” Cang Yan reminded her with a cold face.
“I’ll delete it immediately.” Shen Qingyuan quickly took out her phone, logged onto Weibo. Seeing that she had nearly one hundred thousand followers, she realized the original owner was not simple.
Shen Qingyuan quickly scanned the page. The original owner not only wrote fanfiction about Cang Yan but also wrote erotic novels, with a bunch of links on her Weibo.
Various settings, including ABO and Futanari settings.
Various sexual orientations, including GL, BL, BG, and GB.
The fanfiction that depicted Cang Yan as a Dominatrix was even pinned at the top.
The shares and comments had both exceeded ten thousand. This definitely wasn’t the kind of data a hundred-thousand-follower account would have, clearly due to piggybacking on Cang Yan’s popularity. Shen Qingyuan knew without clicking what kind of monsters were dancing in the comment section.
“Didn’t you say yesterday you would delete it?” Cang Yan’s voice was chilly.
Shen Qingyuan’s heart also went cold, knowing things were bad. Last night she was busy applying medicine and sleeping, and today she was busy reading and studying. She hadn’t written the fanfiction, so how could she remember promising Cang Yan to delete the Weibo post?
She quickly salvaged the situation, “I forgot yesterday.”
With a quick motion, she deleted it.
She not only deleted that fanfiction but also removed the other erotic novels, thinking, Why did the original owner have to write fanfiction about Cang Yan and erotic novels, and not keep her identity secret?
Fortunately, the erotic novels had nothing to do with Cang Yan.
However, Cang Yan’s fanfiction was also quite close to an erotic novel, only the intercourse was replaced by S.M.
“It’s deleted.” Shen Qingyuan presented the empty Weibo interface to Cang Yan to show that she had turned over a new leaf and would never write such things again.
Cang Yan seemed to smile contentedly. The curve of her smile was minimal, just a slight upturn of the corners of her mouth, yet Shen Qingyuan felt immensely cheered. A beauty’s smile was like the warm sun in winter.
If Cang Yan hadn’t dripped wax on her last night, she would truly be willing to lie down and let Cang Yan have her way.
Alas, the happiness of a look enthusiast was this simple.
“You write another one.” Shen Qingyuan was still lost in the beauty when she heard Cang Yan speak suddenly, startling her three souls and seven spirits, which were mesmerized by the beauty, instantly back into place.
“What was that?” Shen Qingyuan was so startled her speech acquired an accent.
Cang Yan’s tone was very calm, as if discussing something mundane: “I said you write another one, a hundred thousand words. The person being dominated doesn’t need a special name; just use your own name, Shen Qingyuan.”
Shen Qingyuan: “…”
A hundred thousand words? Is this robbery?
She didn’t know how to write erotic novels; she only knew how to read them.
She regretted deleting the others now.
Cang Yan’s mood brightened upon seeing Shen Qingyuan crestfallen. She then added ominously, “This is called giving a person a taste of their own medicine. You better ensure the shares can exceed ten thousand, or else… the way your family company got its orders will be the way they disappear.”
Shen Qingyuan was still in shock. It took her a long time to utter a sentence: “Oh, shoot, there’s a KPI assessment for writing erotic novels?”
