Are You Allergic To Romance? - Chapter 13
Chapter 13: Lie Down Properly.
Seeing no reaction from Jing Yuan, Xie Mianzhi pleaded softly again, “Is that okay? Little Savior.”
Jing Yuan listened to the tone in which Miss Xie Mianzhi spoke to her.
It made her feel like they were very close.
Her golden eyes flickered. She suddenly remembered Xie Mianzhi’s fierce demeanor when talking to someone else on the phone this morning. It seemed the other party didn’t speak this way all the time, or to everyone.
Jing Yuan thought of this, which finally suppressed the subtle discomfort she felt a second ago.
“How do you know I’m younger than you?” Jing Yuan countered. She was slightly offended by the word ‘little’ in ‘Little Savior.’
In terms of physical build and stature, she clearly had the upper hand. As for appearance, she felt Xie Mianzhi was probably around the same age as her, but the other party’s clothing and style made her seem slightly more mature.
Xie Mianzhi pursed her lips, surprised that Jing Yuan actually cared about this.
“You’re working at a convenience store, so you’ve probably just graduated from university. More importantly, only young people dare to stay up this late.”
“Stay up late?” Jing Yuan didn’t quite understand.
Xie Mianzhi paused, “Your dark circles are almost falling off.”
She pointed out the dark shadows under Jing Yuan’s pair of golden eyes with slight exaggeration.
“…” Jing Yuan froze, touched her eyes, and explained, “This is natural.”
“Born with built-in eyeshadow? How amazing,” Xie Mianzhi teased. She had wanted to mention it for a long time. The other party had a physical appearance comparable to the artists her group collaborated with, except that her eyes were a little too melancholic, not very friendly, and distant.
Jing Yuan turned her head to look at Xie Mianzhi, letting out a soft “hum”: “Are you making fun of me?”
“Of course not. I’m just sighing that only young people have the capital to stay up late. So you must be younger than me. After all, your sister is already approaching thirty. I can’t handle all-nighters.” To be precise, she was twenty-eight, which rounded up to thirty. If she pulled an all-nighter, the people under her command would suffer the next day.
Jing Yuan frowned. The dark shadows under her eyes were indeed natural. Since her body mutated, small parts of the black markings lurking on her body had been parasitic on her face. When she was unconscious, they would gather around her eye sockets, sometimes obvious, sometimes receding.
If she deliberately wanted to hide them, they would also disappear into her neck area.
Should I wear glasses? Jing Yuan thought.
“We are actually about the same age.” Jing Yuan was unwilling to admit that the other party was a few years older than her. She felt that this Miss Xie would use age to try to pressure her.
Xie Mianzhi heard it: the other party was indeed younger than her.
“Mm, after all that, are you willing to let me stay one more night? Or should I drop you off at home and then drive alone in the rain? Regardless of whether I live or die,” Xie Mianzhi asked in an indifferent tone, throwing the tricky problem to the honest person.
The honest person, Jing Yuan, looked at Miss Xie in the car. The other party was truly difficult to deal with.
If she didn’t agree, would she be unforgivable?
“For Miss Xie to say that, I, as the recipient of your kindness, have no reason not to let you stay.” As someone who had been partially influenced by her university professor mother’s emphasis on manners since childhood, Jing Yuan naturally couldn’t refuse such pressure.
It was probably like the time her mother reluctantly “invited” the other Abyss Mother to stay at their house, although the comparison was inappropriate.
It was truly helpless.
“‘Miss Xie’?” Xie Mianzhi slightly frowned.
Being called that by the other party made her feel uncomfortable. In her memory, people called her: CEO Xie, Director Xie, Boss, Madam, Second Miss, and other such titles. ‘Miss Xie’ was also used, but she didn’t like the person in front of her using that address.
“Xie Mianzhi,” she abruptly said her own name.
“Hmm?”
Xie Mianzhi looked at Jing Yuan’s confused expression and spoke again, her tone slightly more serious: “You can just call me by my name.”
Although she didn’t like people calling her by her full name, as the name her family gave her sounded too gentle and didn’t fit her temperament, she was quite hopeful that this little savior would call her by her name instead of “Miss Xie.”
Jing Yuan hadn’t expected the suggestion and immediately explained, “I thought addressing you that way was more polite.”
Xie Mianzhi raised an eyebrow when she heard this. Mm, it was quite polite, but she didn’t like this kind of politeness.
Jing Yuan saw the other party staring intently at her, so she had to repeat her promise just now, “You can stay at my house tonight.”
“Who is ‘you’ referring to?”
“Mm… Xie Mianzhi.” Jing Yuan was resigned. She didn’t understand why Miss Xie insisted on her calling her by name, but since the other party was serious about it, she had to comply. She didn’t realize that she was actually being so patient with someone she had only known for two days.
Xie Mianzhi finally heard her name from the other party’s mouth and couldn’t help but let the corner of her mouth curl up a little.
“That’s much better. Otherwise, I thought I was making things difficult for you by taking liberties,” Xie Mianzhi laughed at herself lightly.
Jing Yuan shook her head. She didn’t feel difficulty, only surprise and an inexplicable sense of relief.
When she saw Miss Xie Mianzhi suddenly appear at the store door instead of just leaving a note saying, ‘I’ve left’ after she got home.
Jing Yuan attributed this peace of mind to the beautiful idea that she had helped someone who knew how to repay kindness.
Miss Xie Mianzhi is a well-mannered and grateful person.
“Then help me with directions. The roads here are really difficult to drive on.” After hearing the satisfactory reply, Xie Mianzhi restarted the car. However, she seemed a little lost. It was fine on the way here, but it was dark at night, and the poor navigation signal inevitably led to mistakes.
“Okay.”
Jing Yuan then became the human guide.
“Fifty meters ahead, turn right.”
Inside the car, the clear, cool voice of the woman next to her occasionally sounded. She had to admit that Jing Yuan’s voice was very pleasant, like a mermaid songstress from the deep sea.
“Your eyesight is really good, and you remember it so clearly,” Xie Mianzhi praised the other party while driving.
She was very satisfied with this human navigation.
“Thank you,” Jing Yuan replied politely.
Her night vision was indeed superior to that of ordinary people.
This person is so formal, even thanking me, Xie Mianzhi mumbled to herself with amusement, “Have you always lived here?”
“No.”
“Then why did you…?”
Xie Mianzhi sensed Jing Yuan looking at her and explained, “Just making conversation.”
“Because of certain physical reasons, I came here to live. It hasn’t been for too long,” Jing Yuan said vaguely. She didn’t think the other party would believe her if she told the real reason.
Physical reasons? “Are you sick?”
“Of course not. My body is great,” Jing Yuan immediately clarified, not wanting the other party to misunderstand.
Xie Mianzhi listened and didn’t press further, respecting the other party’s privacy. However, she still felt that little Jing must be physically weak.
“However, you’re quite brave to live alone in such a remote place.”
Xie Mianzhi clicked her tongue in amazement, remembering that the other party said she lived in that house alone.
“It’s alright,” Jing Yuan maintained a standard sitting posture, looking at the road ahead. Only after confirming that they would soon arrive by going straight ahead did she speak, “You get used to it.”
Xie Mianzhi listened silently. Although she also lived alone and attended family gatherings weekly, she lived in a villa area in the city, where there were high-end security facilities and the surrounding environment was top-notch.
This place was different; there were no guarantees whatsoever.
Don’t Jing Yuan’s family worry? Or does she not have family? The house looks renovated. Could it have been left to her by her family?
Xie Mianzhi felt a sudden sense of pity but didn’t know how to ask.
“Doesn’t sitting like that make you uncomfortable?” Xie Mianzhi couldn’t help but remind Jing Yuan, whose back was straight beside her. The luxurious seats of her sports car seemed useless.
“What?” Jing Yuan was confused.
Immediately after, Xie Mianzhi stopped the car because they had arrived at the little savior’s seaside home entrance, but she needed to correct the other party’s posture.
“You’re sitting too rigidly,” Xie Mianzhi unbuckled her seatbelt, pointing out Jing Yuan’s incorrect posture.
Jing Yuan thought she had upset the other party and subconsciously apologized, “Sorry, I…”
“I mean, you don’t have to be so formal. Although my car hasn’t carried many passengers, I really hope you can sit comfortably. Expensive things have their reasons. The promotional slogan for the seats in this car even said something about ‘delicate soft gold components, allowing honored guests to enjoy the ultimate soft experience.’ Have you enjoyed it?”
Xie Mianzhi spoke quickly, finishing in one breath and then asking a rhetorical question.
Jing Yuan thought Xie Mianzhi’s speaking speed was quite fast. Stared at by the other party’s captivating eyes, she could only shake her head, indicating that she hadn’t noticed the ultimate experience.
She had only been focused on watching the road and giving directions.
This person is truly something.
Xie Mianzhi decisively pressed a button inside the car and then ordered the person next to her: “Lie down properly.”
“Hmm?” Jing Yuan immediately looked at the other party.
They had already reached the front door; what was Xie Mianzhi asking her to do?
Xie Mianzhi saw that this person was still rigidly sitting upright with her seatbelt fastened. Why was she so restrained when she was with her?
She simply propped herself up and moved towards Jing Yuan.
She was almost leaning on Jing Yuan. Just as Xie Mianzhi was about to reach out her hand, she saw the little savior named Jing, sitting in the passenger seat, tightly gripping the door handle, as if she would bolt out the door the next second.
“What are you doing?” Xie Mianzhi’s hand stopped in mid-air. She looked amusedly at Jing Yuan, whose golden eyes were wide, looking like she was about to be bullied. She teased, “Are you trying to run away?”
Jing Yuan’s right hand tightly grasped the interior door handle. Her golden eyes nervously stared at Xie Mianzhi, who was only about three centimeters away from her face. It felt like if the other party moved even a little closer, they would touch.
Too close…
“I… I’m not,” Jing Yuan swallowed with difficulty. A sudden sensation of hunger made her throat feel uncomfortable.
However, Xie Mianzhi completely ignored Jing Yuan’s change and continued to move closer. She reached out her hand to adjust Jing Yuan’s seat to the most comfortable angle.
“Ah— Miss, Miss Xie!”
As Xie Mianzhi’s soft hair fell onto Jing Yuan’s face, the little savior named Jing, who was desperately suppressing her hunger, immediately shouted in fright, even clearly seeing Xie Mianzhi’s widely exposed chest.
Xie Mianzhi was startled. She hadn’t expected Jing Yuan to let out a scream. However, that high-pitched voice was quite interesting. Since she had finished adjusting the seat for the other party, she returned to her original position.
She was completely unaware of the enormous impact she had on Jing Yuan in those few short seconds.
“That sound just now really startled me. Did you used to study high notes?” Xie Mianzhi deliberately clutched her chest, pretending to be startled by the other party’s funny, high-pitched voice.
Jing Yuan looked at Xie Mianzhi, who made her feel so extremely ‘uncomfortable.’ Coupled with the other party’s deliberate accusation, she felt both embarrassed and wronged. She couldn’t control herself, and her fair cheeks immediately flushed red.
