Are You Allergic To Romance? - Chapter 15
Chapter 15: I’m More Sensitive
Inside the house,
Xie Mianzhi, while wiping the hair that had been ruffled by the wind and rain with a towel, looked at Jing Yuan who was busy unpacking various bottles and jars from the first-aid kit.
All the items in the first-aid kit were brand new.
Jing Yuan seemed a bit anxious, the bottles and jars clinking loudly.
“This is hydrogen peroxide, and medical cotton balls.” Jing Yuan used tweezers to hand the prepared antiseptic cotton ball to Xie Mianzhi. Next to her was a box of band-aids.
They were even a pink cartoon cat version.
“Why don’t you see this good deed through and help me apply it? I don’t mind the pain again,” Xie Mianzhi said with a slight grumble and a touch of petulance. Heaven knows she had just been carried home, bouncing with a ‘clunk-clunk’ sound, like livestock, by this powerhouse named Jing Yuan.
Her abdomen was pressed right against the other party’s shoulder. Not only did her finger hurt, but now her stomach hurt too.
She wasn’t even angry!?
Under normal circumstances, she would have already flared up.
When did her patience become so good…
Xie Mianzhi was truly puzzled.
Jing Yuan quietly looked at Xie Mianzhi, knowing that the other party was indirectly accusing her of causing pain while carrying her, but she hadn’t meant to. She had only been thinking about getting Miss Xie inside quickly to treat the wound.
Humans are still very fragile.
Jing Yuan’s mind recalled a time when she was playing with Mommy as a child and unintentionally hurt her. Mommy had dragged her directly into the deep sea for a hellish education session.
It was probably because Mommy’s hand had also had a cut.
The tiny Jing Yuan had managed to dodge her mother’s overwhelming violent output, but the terrifying scene was still vivid in her memory.
Mmm, she remembered clearly that the Lianshi Sea area indirectly fractured that day.
So, important people should be cared for delicately.
Important person? Jing Yuan was momentarily lost in thought. Is Miss Xie Mianzhi an important person to me…?
But she couldn’t think about that now. The immediate priority was to treat the wound.
“I’m sorry.” Jing Yuan knew Xie Mianzhi was speaking out of frustration. She had acted with good intentions but caused an unwelcome outcome. She could only hand over the cotton balls and other supplies, not daring to help in person anymore.
Seeing Jing Yuan so obediently handing over the prepared medical supplies, Xie Mianzhi’s temper was gone. Looking at the other party’s previously aloof expression now resembling a drenched little dog, well, she admitted Jing Yuan had a naturally good appearance.
“I’m not that delicate. It’s mainly that your bones are too hard; they were jarring,” Xie Mianzhi took the cotton ball from Jing Yuan’s hand, wiped her finger, endured the stinging of the medicine soaking the wound, and explained with an awkward tone.
Jing Yuan listened quietly, her eyes still intently focused on the wound on the other party’s finger.
That was the only thing she cared about now.
“Haven’t you ever carried someone before?” Xie Mianzhi took a new cotton ball, dipped it into the medicine bottle in Jing Yuan’s hand, and couldn’t help but ask.
Jing Yuan heard her and could only answer truthfully: “I haven’t.”
“So you used the ‘carry-like-a-sack’ method?”
“I thought that would be faster,” Jing Yuan said softly. When her gaze met Xie Mianzhi’s frowned expression, she quickly denied: “I didn’t think that.”
Hearing this reply, Xie Mianzhi couldn’t help but let out a burst of laughter. Was this person intentionally trying to be cute?
Never mind. Jing Yuan probably wouldn’t understand if she talked about being cute.
Her attitude when telling her to get out of the car earlier was quite forceful, though.
“But you can actually carry me. You only look slightly taller than me, but your strength is impressive,” Xie Mianzhi continued to offer compliments, after all, the other party had been thinking of her well-being.
“You’re not heavy.”
“Of course not. Your sister here has a great figure,” Xie Mianzhi raised her head proudly, her expression brimming with unique confidence.
Jing Yuan raised her eyelids and saw Miss Xie Mianzhi’s wet, long hair curving over her full chest. She only glanced before immediately lowering her head and pulling out a band-aid to hand to the other party.
“Here you go.”
“A pink kitten. You’re quite the girly girl,” Xie Mianzhi took the pink, heart-shaped Hello Kitty band-aid, gently placed it on her finger, and couldn’t resist teasing her.
Jing Yuan was tidying up the antiseptic supplies on the table. She saw Xie Mianzhi referring to the band-aid, and was about to open her mouth to explain, but Xie Mianzhi put a finger to her lips.
“Stop. I know you’re going to explain that you didn’t buy this.”
“My uncle purchased it.”
“Your uncle. Well, he probably thinks girls like pink.”
Jing Yuan was momentarily speechless. Mr. Lu Ze probably just packed all the necessary items into this villa to fulfill his duty. “Actually, I don’t usually get hurt.”
“I can tell. The first-aid kit was completely unopened,” Xie Mianzhi finished the other party’s sentence with a smile. So this person had a relative? What about her parents? Could she ask?
“Does your uncle come to see you every now and then?” Xie Mianzhi asked subtly. She was very curious, especially since the only edibles in Jing Yuan’s house initially were instant noodles and water, hardly a place fit for a person to live.
“No, he doesn’t.” The last time was two months ago when he dropped off the supplies she needed.
Her condition was unstable. Mr. Lu Ze was worried that she would become easily agitated and affect him. Uncle Lu cherished his life.
He wouldn’t show up unless absolutely necessary.
“What about your parents?” Xie Mianzhi asked directly. She saw Jing Yuan pause for a moment and immediately said: “I’m just asking casually. It’s fine if you don’t want to talk about it.”
“They went traveling a while ago,” Jing Yuan didn’t mind the question.
Hmm? Jing Yuan’s parents are quite romantic, Xie Mianzhi nodded.
She had initially thought that Jing Yuan’s parents had passed away, leaving the house to her as an inheritance. Otherwise, how would this person dare to live alone in such a remote place?
She apologized for her pessimistic thoughts for one second.
“But I still feel like your house is very empty.”
“Yes, I live here alone now. My family doesn’t live here.”
Jing Yuan didn’t understand why Xie Mianzhi was always focused on whether she lived alone, but she patiently reiterated it.
After speaking, she neatly organized the medical supplies, put them back into the box, and placed it where it belonged.
Golden eyes, good looks;
Has parents, lives alone in a remote place;
Works at a convenience store, and keeps two fat ducks as guard dogs…
Xie Mianzhi used all the information she currently had to form a rough idea. In short, she still couldn’t quite figure out the person in front of her.
But one thing was certain.
Is Jing Yuan a little too emotionally dense, or just plain naive?
Xie Mianzhi thought of Jing Yuan’s behavior towards her during this time, and the young man’s attempted closeness at the convenience store—he almost touched her shoulder, and she didn’t even notice. This person was genuinely oblivious, slow to react.
Her parents are truly bold, leaving her alone in this isolated place.
Thinking of this, Xie Mianzhi felt a little displeased. She got up to pour a glass of water to wet her throat.
Perhaps because of the band-aid she had just put on, her grip on the glass felt slightly numb. Unfortunately, she didn’t hold onto the brand-new glass.
“Oh no…”
Xie Mianzhi’s entire focus was on the glass about to fall to the floor. No matter how quick her reaction, she couldn’t catch it.
She could only watch helplessly.
Just a second before the glass hit the floor, a hand suddenly snatched it.
Immediately after, Jing Yuan placed the glass steadily on the table. “Do you want water? I’ll pour it for you.”
Xie Mianzhi stared blankly at Jing Yuan, who had suddenly appeared next to her. The other party had actually caught the glass right under her nose!?
She only managed to nod a few seconds later, indicating she wanted water.
“You just—”
“What?” Jing Yuan calmly poured the water and handed it to Xie Mianzhi.
“Weren’t you over by the sofa just now… How did you suddenly get here?” Xie Mianzhi took the glass with both hands this time, extremely confused.
Jing Yuan gave her an odd look: “I was here beside you the whole time.”
“Is that so? But I clearly remember…” Xie Mianzhi was full of disbelief. How did she remember Jing Yuan was just putting away the first-aid kit in the living room? Had her memory failed her? What was going on?
“Yes, you must have remembered incorrectly,” Jing Yuan faced Xie Mianzhi with a convincing, calm expression, looking directly at her with golden eyes, appearing utterly truthful: “Otherwise, how would I have caught the glass for you? It almost fell to the floor. It’s a new one I bought.”
Xie Mianzhi felt slightly apologetic after hearing this. Being stared at so intently by Jing Yuan made her immediately dismiss her own suspicion and also let the other party shift the focus:
She almost broke someone’s new glass.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t hold it properly. Luckily, you were next to me.”
Having successfully diverted Xie Mianzhi’s attention, Jing Yuan finally relaxed internally, pursing her lips shyly, and said: “It’s okay.”
“But you can even catch a glass! I couldn’t have done that. You’re really amazing,” Xie Mianzhi looked at her with renewed respect.
Jing Yuan, feeling shy, came up with an excuse: “Mmm, I’m probably a bit sensitive.”
She then poured another glass of water, intending to hand it to Xie Mianzhi to receive more praise.
Xie Mianzhi was about to compliment her further, but Jing Yuan’s answer reminded her again of the scene where that man tried to reach out and touch Jing Yuan today. If it hadn’t been for her car horn…
Xie Mianzhi desperately masked her surging jealousy and countered: “You’re sensitive?”
“Hmm…?”
“It’s good that you’re not dense, then.”
After saying that, Xie Mianzhi huffily slapped away Jing Yuan’s hand and grabbed the water glass for herself.
