Are You Trying to Mark Me? (GL, ABO) - Chapter 11
It was autumn, and the day had started to grow shorter. By the time Min Wenyi finished driving around aimlessly and returned to the apartment, it was already past six in the evening.
The sky was completely dark. Wearing just a simple cap, Min Wenyi stepped out of her car without much effort to disguise herself, now that she had moved to a new address.
She had assumed Yu Ran would be waiting at home. However, to her surprise, she found her assistant squatting by the stairway, hugging her knees.
And sitting right beside Yu Ran was another person—Lu An.
The two of them had their backs to Min Wenyi and seemed to be whispering about something.
“It’s so cute, all fluffy and soft,” Yu Ran said, her tone full of excitement.
“They all look like this. What’s so special about it?” Lu An replied, sounding skeptical.
“Don’t you think it’s chubby and fluffy, like a little stuffed toy?”
“But some people have a fear of stuffed toys, you know.”
“…Are you just arguing with me for the sake of it?”
“I’m just being honest.”
It seemed like the two were about to start bickering, so Min Wenyi decided to intervene. She walked over, her footsteps light in her sneakers. Yu Ran didn’t notice her until she was practically behind them.
“What are you two doing?” Min Wenyi asked.
Her gaze shifted past the two and landed on a small cardboard box in the corner. Inside the box, lined with a white towel, was a tiny, fluffy creature fast asleep.
Its breathing caused its little belly to rise and fall rhythmically, making it look irresistibly adorable.
It was a kitten.
Judging by its size, it was probably three to four months old, smaller than an adult cat but clearly healthy.
“You’re back!” Yu Ran exclaimed, springing to her feet. “Why are you home so late? I thought you weren’t coming back tonight.”
Min Wenyi smiled. “Where else would I go if not home?”
“You could stay out, you know. I can’t keep track of your schedule,” Yu Ran teased.
“My training ended ages ago. I just took a bit longer on the road, that’s all. I didn’t plan on staying out,” Min Wenyi replied calmly.
“Oh, that’s good to hear!”
As she looked at her assistant, Min Wenyi couldn’t help but recall what Chu Jiazhi had said to her earlier that day:
“If you’re uncertain, why not test it out?”
Yu Ran, unaware of the thoughts running through Min Wenyi’s mind, continued, “I was going downstairs to meet you when I bumped into Lu An. He told me there was an abandoned kitten downstairs, so I went to take a look.”
Apparently, Lu An had discovered the kitten at the entrance to the stairwell after picking up a package. The little orange tabby was curled up into a round, fluffy ball, looking just like a soft, squishy toy.
Min Wenyi watched as Lu An scooped the kitten into his arms. After a moment of thought, he said, “I’ll take care of it. After all, we’re both lonely souls.”
Yu Ran looked at Lu An with some concern and said with a smile, “Don’t worry. I can make food for the kitten too. From now on, you two can just come over to my place for meals!”
And just like that, the two of them had made a decision on their own. Min Wenyi didn’t mind—it was just a pet cat, after all. It wouldn’t take up much space. As long as they were happy, she had no objections.
“If you’re going to keep it, you should give it a name,” she suggested.
“I’ve already decided,” Lu An said, holding up the kitten. “I’ll call it Guazi Sunflower Seed!”
The orange tabby lazily glanced at Lu An, swished its tail, and seemed quite satisfied with the name.
Dinner that evening was a salad with chicken sausage, prepared by Yu Ran. The low-fat, low-sugar meal left Min Wenyi feeling utterly joyless. She longed for a piece of fried chicken to refresh her taste buds, but with a photoshoot coming up, indulging was out of the question.
Guazi, on the other hand, seemed perfectly content. Yu Ran set up a little dish and bowl for it, filled with some cooked chicken. The kitten sat quietly, happily munching away.
After finalizing their shopping list for the next day, Lu An took Guazi and returned to his apartment across the hall.
Click—
The sound of the door closing was especially crisp. Min Wenyi, who was idly fiddling with her laptop on the sofa, glanced up at Yu Ran and noticed her assistant was about to start tidying the house again.
Why was she so diligent?
Min Wenyi frowned in thought. She hadn’t even asked Yu Ran to work an eight-hour day. As long as she prepared meals on time, that was enough. Did this assistant take her job a little too seriously?
“Yu Ran.”
Min Wenyi called her name, her expression tinged with dissatisfaction. “Come here.”
Yu Ran turned around, confused by the displeasure on Min Wenyi’s face. Unsure of what she’d done to upset her boss, she cautiously approached.
“What’s… wrong?”
Her voice trembled as she spoke, the last word practically a squeak. The reason for her panic? On Min Wenyi’s laptop screen was the very page she had forgotten to close the night before.
Yes.
It was the novel.
Lu An’s “The Scheming Diva and Her Sweet Assistant”!
Yu Ran’s mind was screaming internally. She could already see herself getting fired in the next moment!
“I-I can explain!” Yu Ran stammered, trying her best to stay calm. “This novel, it’s…”
“A novel?” Min Wenyi raised an eyebrow.
Min Wenyi glanced at the screen, let out an “Oh,” and said, “I wasn’t talking about that. Why are you so flustered?”
Yu Ran froze for a moment. Min Wenyi seeing her fanfiction—shouldn’t she be shocked?
Last night, Yu Ran almost lost her composure over it!
Seeing her assistant’s confused expression, Min Wenyi curved her lips into a smile and said, “This author has been writing fanfiction about me for five or six years now. Their writing style hasn’t changed a bit.”
As she spoke, she clicked to the next chapter, scanning it briefly. “This story seems pretty popular.”
Yu Ran’s face flushed red. She didn’t know where to place her hands and feet.
Although Min Wenyi kept her eyes on the screen, the corners of her gaze lingered on Yu Ran. Eventually, she stopped what she was doing, turned to her, and said calmly:
“Yu Ran, sleep with me tonight.”
The air froze in an instant.
Yu Ran’s eyes widened in shock. She stared blankly at Min Wenyi, wondering if she had misheard.
Without receiving a reply, Min Wenyi tilted her body slightly, meeting Yu Ran’s gaze directly.
“After you take a shower, come to my room tonight,” Min Wenyi said matter-of-factly. “I need to confirm something.”
Yu Ran stood there in stunned silence, her face pale as a sheet. She looked terrified.
“I…”
Her mind was a complete blank. Did Min Wenyi know something?
Had last night’s events exposed her as an Omega?
Or… did she know all along?
A flood of chaotic thoughts surged through Yu Ran’s mind, making her subconsciously take a step back.
Noticing her hesitance, Min Wenyi reached out and firmly grabbed her wrist.
“Answer me.”
Yu Ran trembled, unable to figure out how to respond. Agree? Or refuse?
Min Wenyi noticed her assistant’s fear. She sighed softly, then used her other hand to gently pull Yu Ran into her arms.
Yu Ran felt her whole body ignite like fire. Her breath caught, leaving her paralyzed.
“Don’t be scared. I won’t do anything,” Min Wenyi murmured, patting her back soothingly. “Just like that time before we moved—only sleeping. Nothing more.”
Yu Ran bit her lip and shakily asked, “Can… can I refuse?”
Min Wenyi’s gaze darkened. Her arm tightened.
“No.”
Shower. Change clothes.
Blow-dry hair. Go upstairs.
Yu Ran couldn’t describe her emotions. As an Omega, she was about to share a bed with an Alpha. And not just any Alpha—her boss.
Despite wanting to refuse, Min Wenyi’s firm attitude left no room for negotiation.
Walking on the soft carpet, Yu Ran felt a faint warmth beneath her toes.
Min Wenyi, lounging on the bed, looked up at Yu Ran and said casually, “You’re here? Get on.”
Yu Ran thought the scene felt oddly familiar…
“Just so we’re clear,” Yu Ran said, biting her lip at the door. “It’s just for one night. Nothing else.”
Min Wenyi glanced at her, tugged at the collar of her silk nightgown, and smirked. “I’m fully dressed, see?”
She pulled Yu Ran onto the bed and turned off the bedside lamp.
The room plunged into darkness, save for the moonlight spilling faintly through the curtains.
Yu Ran’s heart pounded as if it would leap out of her chest. Lying not far away was an Alpha whose scent carried the faint aroma of rum.
Min Wenyi rolled over and wrapped an arm around Yu Ran, pulling her close.
“!!”
Yu Ran’s body went rigid. Her frenzied heartbeat made her feel like she was about to explode.
Soft breaths brushed against the back of her neck, sending shivers down her spine. Panicking, she realized she shouldn’t turn her back to the “enemy”!
The soft rustle of fabric broke the silence as Yu Ran shifted to face the other way, curling into Min Wenyi’s embrace.
“Why’d you turn over?” Min Wenyi asked, amused.
In the darkness, Yu Ran buried her blushing face into Min Wenyi’s neck.
“I-I don’t know…”
Facing away meant exposing her nape, where her scent glands were.
Turning around meant snuggling directly into Min Wenyi’s arms.
Either way, she was like a lamb to the slaughter!
Ahhhh!!!
As soon as I get my paycheck, I’m quitting!
Completely unaware of Yu Ran’s inner turmoil, Min Wenyi rested her hand lightly on Yu Ran’s waist.
The gentle curve of her figure and soft touch didn’t stir any primal instincts in Min Wenyi. Instead, she felt oddly at peace, as if this was where Yu Ran belonged.
Breathing in the faint scent of her assistant, Min Wenyi’s lips curled into a small smile.
While there wasn’t a spark of desire, she had to admit—Yu Ran was soft and pleasant to hold.
At some point, both of them drifted off to sleep. Yu Ran clung tightly to Min Wenyi’s nightgown, feeling an unusual sense of security.
The rum-scented pheromones seemed… sweet.
