Are You Trying to Mark Me? (GL, ABO) - Chapter 15
Yu Ran felt a bit unfamiliar with the man in front of her wearing a gray casual outfit. She didn’t know much about the entertainment industry but thought Chu Jiazhi looked very familiar, though she had no idea who he really was.
“Some things.” Min Wenyi handed her sunglasses to Yu Ran and said, “I’m going to a meeting first. Wait for me on the sofa across from the pantry.”
Yu Ran looked up at Min Wenyi, stunned for a moment, then nodded.
Min Wenyi went to the meeting. The conference room was not far from the pantry. Since Yu Ran didn’t really have anything else to do, she just kept her head down, playing with her phone.
She wasn’t sure how long she’d been scrolling when suddenly a dark figure blocked the light in front of her.
Looking up, she saw Chu Jiazhi standing under the dim sunset, with the setting sun behind him shining like beams of light, making him look like a god.
Chu Jiazhi looked at the stunned little assistant with interest and handed her a can of warm coffee.
“Want to have a cup with me?”
Even though it was instant coffee, Chu Jiazhi didn’t mind and took a sip while sitting next to Yu Ran.
Yu Ran held the warm coffee, looking at him curiously.
Chu Jiazhi had very delicate features—his high nose bridge and long eyelashes stood out. Looking closer, Yu Ran even noticed his pupils were dark green.
Maybe he was mixed race?
Noticing her gaze, Chu Jiazhi didn’t feel awkward at all. After all, every detail of him was carefully groomed, looking perfect no matter how you looked at him.
He turned back and smiled, his eyes curved like a crescent moon. “You seem to like me a lot.”
Yu Ran was caught off guard and quickly apologized, “Sorry, I didn’t mean to stare…”
“No problem,” Chu Jiazhi smiled. “You’re Wenyi’s assistant, right? She talks about you a lot.”
Yu Ran nodded.
“How long have you worked for her?”
“Over three months.”
“That’s quite a while~” Chu Jiazhi smiled. “What do you think of Wenyi?”
Yu Ran hesitated for a moment and said, “The boss is really nice and very generous…”
But then she stopped because she saw Chu Jiazhi slowly shaking his head.
“I’m not asking about her work,” Chu Jiazhi said, resting his head on his right hand and looking at her seriously. “I’m asking how she treats you.”
Yu Ran didn’t understand what he meant and looked at him with confusion.
Chu Jiazhi smiled, tilted his head, and said, “Do you know Wenyi already likes someone?”
Yu Ran was a little stunned. She was so close to Min Wenyi but had never heard her mention anyone before.
Seeing Yu Ran’s expression, Chu Jiazhi knew she didn’t know anything. He grinned mischievously and said, “Do you know what kind of meeting we’re having today?”
Yu Ran shook her head.
“The company plans to hype up the rumor that Wenyi and I are a couple. We’re discussing the details now,” Chu Jiazhi told Yu Ran. “Maybe soon, you’ll see our names trending together.”
A fake couple rumor…
Yu Ran was a bit stunned but understood. The entertainment world was all about creating buzz for attention, and hype was just part of the job.
But two people without feelings—could they really be pushed together just by a rumor?
Yu Ran fell silent.
Little did she know, the two of them really didn’t have any feelings for each other.
“The company planned to start warming up the rumor today and announce the relationship in about six months,” Chu Jiazhi shook his coffee cup and said, “But she rejected it right away.”
He looked at Yu Ran and smiled, “Do you know why she said no?”
“What did she say?”
“Min Wenyi said she already likes someone else.”
Her heart skipped a beat as a strange feeling rose inside her, hard to explain.
So Min Wenyi already liked someone…
Yu Ran pressed her lips into a smile. “It’s normal for the boss to like someone.”
Why should she feel down? Having someone she liked didn’t mean she’d lose her job…
Seeing Yu Ran smile, Chu Jiazhi was about to say more when the sharp sound of high heels echoed nearby.
“What are you doing here?”
Min Wenyi looked at the two sitting together, displeased. “I’ve been looking for you for a long time.”
Chu Jiazhi smiled and stood up. “Wenyi, why are you in such a bad mood? Your assistant told me you’re usually pretty nice at home.”
He walked over, put his arm on Min Wenyi’s shoulder, and whispered in her ear, “Your assistant is so cute, can I try to date her?”
Min Wenyi glanced at him and whispered low, “If you don’t want me to break your leg, shut up.”
Chu Jiazhi laughed happily, gave her shoulder a big pat, and then left smiling.
After he left, Min Wenyi walked over to Yu Ran and looked down at her, then at the coffee in her hand.
Her brow slightly furrowed. “Did Chu Jiazhi give you that?”
At first, Yu Ran didn’t understand what she meant. Before she could react, Min Wenyi took the coffee from her knee, glanced at it, and muttered, “Who knows what he’s up to.”
She then casually tossed it on top of the trash can and said to Yu Ran, “Let’s go. We’re heading back.”
Watching Min Wenyi walk ahead, Yu Ran quickly followed.
In the car, Min Wenyi drove while asking, “What did Chu Jiazhi just talk to you about?”
Why does she still seem so distracted?
Yu Ran was silent for a while before saying, “He said… the company wants to hype us as a couple.”
Min Wenyi glanced at her and nodded, saying, “That’s true.”
“He said you rejected him.”
Yu Ran nervously twisted the corner of her clothes and asked confusedly, “He’s pretty famous too, right? Why did you turn him down?”
Could it be… it’s really because you already like someone else?
Min Wenyi said helplessly, “Just because he’s famous doesn’t mean I’m less famous, right? The company really tries to control everything. And two Alphas dating—what are they thinking? Are they crazy?”
Seeing Min Wenyi about to blow up, Yu Ran carefully said, “Um…”
“Huh?”
“Boss, you’re speeding…”
Min Wenyi: “…”
They safely made it home, and Min Wenyi took off her coat and sunglasses, then sprawled out on the sofa to calm down her bad mood.
She rubbed the corners of her eyes and closed them. She really hated when others arranged publicity stunts for her. Min Wenyi wasn’t the little star who relied on traffic and playing along with others’ moods anymore.
What puzzled her most was that Chu Jiazhi clearly hated it too, so why say those things to Yu Ran?
That gossip guy…
Min Wenyi sighed. Looks like it’s time to start her own path.
Listening to the sounds in the house, Min Wenyi opened her eyes.
Yu Ran was busy in the kitchen preparing dinner, wearing pink fluffy slippers and a ponytail, her back turned. From Min Wenyi’s angle, Yu Ran’s waist and legs looked really beautiful.
Her nose seemed to catch a faint smell of milk, but Min Wenyi knew it was just her imagination.
At dinner, Lu An came by as usual to mooch a meal. But no one knew what he’d done today—he looked lively and full of energy.
And he kept pulling Yu Ran into conversations.
Yu Ran was acting strange too, trembling and avoiding looking Lu An in the eyes, always wanting to run behind herself.
Min Wenyi glanced at Lu An, then slammed the table and said, “Once you’re full, get lost.”
Lu An: “…” Jealous, I like it!
Yu Ran: “…” Help me QAQ
After finally kicking him out, Min Wenyi looked up and asked Yu Ran, “Are you going upstairs to sleep tonight?”
“N-no…” Yu Ran said guiltily, “I want to sleep alone tonight.”
Even though her bedroom bed was hard like a rock, she still felt scared.
As for what she was afraid of, Yu Ran didn’t really know.
Maybe it was just Omega nature to be timid.
Late at night, everything was as quiet as water.
But no matter what, Yu Ran couldn’t sleep.
The hard bed was one thing, but thinking about today made her feel strangely uneasy.
The air near her nose was slightly damp, and the sound of banyan leaves falling outside on the balcony was unusually clear.
Yu Ran sat up on the bed, staring blankly at her curtains.
The thought of not wanting to sleep alone rose up inside her. She checked the time—it was already past 2 a.m.
Barefoot, Yu Ran opened her bedroom door.
In the dead of night, the living room was lit only by moonlight streaming through the window, the scattered dots of light making it especially peaceful.
Min Wenyi… should be asleep by now, right?
Clutching her nightgown, Yu Ran thought for a moment then quietly crept upstairs.
Just one glance, just one glance.
Biting her lip, Yu Ran carefully tiptoed up the stairs.
Her feet landed silently on the soft carpet. Yu Ran saw Min Wenyi’s back facing her, blurry in the dim room.
She was really asleep…
Yu Ran hugged her knees and squatted by the bed.
She had planned that if Min Wenyi wasn’t asleep, she’d come over to share the blanket.
But since Min Wenyi seemed asleep, Yu Ran had to suffer insomnia alone.
Just then,
Min Wenyi slowly turned over, facing Yu Ran.
Yu Ran only saw Min Wenyi’s clear, watery eyes. She blinked and looked at Yu Ran, who was crouching by the bed, and softly asked, “What are you doing?”
Yu Ran was stunned, didn’t know what to say, and blushed so hard she couldn’t speak.
“I, I…”
Before Yu Ran could think of an excuse, Min Wenyi reached out and pulled her into the blanket.
“!!!!”
Yu Ran felt the warm body lean against her and was immediately scared stiff.
Min Wenyi wrapped her arms around Yu Ran’s waist, holding her close like a content cat and sighed.
“It’s still more comfortable sleeping while holding you.”
Those words hit Yu Ran’s chest like a drumbeat. Blushing, she buried her face in Min Wenyi’s chest, smelling the faint scent of rum on her and feeling a little dizzy.
Before falling asleep, Yu Ran grabbed Min Wenyi’s black pajamas and suddenly wondered:
Why is Min Wenyi wearing clothes to sleep tonight?
Is she… waiting for me?
