Are You Trying to Mark Me? (GL, ABO) - Chapter 16
The two of them held each other and slept until noon.
Yu Ran had been scared and anxious these past few days, always afraid that one day Lu An would catch her and force her to watch those embarrassing photos again, so she hadn’t been sleeping well at night.
Last night, sneaking in quietly to cuddle up felt especially comforting.
Min Wenyi had been awake for a long time but didn’t wake her still-sleeping assistant.
Yu Ran, with her pale skin and rosy cheeks, snuggled against Min Wenyi’s shoulder. Underneath her loose pajamas, her chest was slightly rounded—not big, but very smooth and full.
Her neck was slender, with a few chestnut-colored strands of hair resting there, making her look even more graceful.
Min Wenyi had seen beautiful people before, but Yu Ran’s beauty was more on the cute side.
Rosy, delicate.
Cute, but with a unique charm.
Min Wenyi’s gaze darkened a little as she felt Yu Ran’s steady breath, waiting for her to wake and see her first.
But before the person in her arms could naturally wake up, a doorbell rang downstairs.
And faintly, Lu An’s loud voice could be heard shouting.
“Yu Ran, have you made food yet? I have classes this afternoon, so help me make lunch!”
Min Wenyi frowned slightly. Did this guy really think her assistant was a full-time maid?
He asked for favors as easily as breathing.
With one free hand, Min Wenyi lifted the blanket and covered both of them up again.
So when Yu Ran groggily woke up, she found the scene in front of her a bit strange.
Dim light filtered inside the blanket.
And there were Min Wenyi’s star-like eyes.
Although it wasn’t the first time she had seen her assistant just waking up, Min Wenyi still thought Yu Ran looked especially cute.
“Mmm…”
Yu Ran scrunched her little nose, feeling a bit stuffy.
Min Wenyi whispered, “Awake now?”
Yu Ran nodded drowsily, “Mm.”
Then she closed her eyes again.
Planning to go back to sleep…
Min Wenyi didn’t disturb her, just slowly pulled her hand out and got out of bed barefoot.
Lu An was still knocking downstairs. Min Wenyi opened the door and looked at him.
“Why don’t you cook for yourself?”
Lu An, holding an orange cat, was stunned for a moment, then said without thinking, “Yu Ran’s cooking is delicious.”
Even if it’s delicious, she’s your assistant—what’s that got to do with you?
Min Wenyi raised her chin and said to the younger guy, “Yu Ran’s not cooking for you today. You should go home.”
“Why not?”
“She’s still sleeping.”
Lu An: “…”
Seeing Lu An’s twitching mouth, Min Wenyi continued, “Don’t always bother Yu Ran. She has other things to do.”
Lu An’s facial muscles twitched in struggle, stammering, “W-what else does she have to do?”
Min Wenyi said firmly, “Take care of me.”
If Lu An hadn’t learned expression control, his face would have broken out laughing by now.
OMG, is he chasing some kind of divine couple???
Too sweet!!!
Min Wenyi looked at the dazed Lu An and shut the door with a cold expression.
You little brat, still want to fight me for my assistant?
Go home and practice for a few hundred more years!
So, when Yu Ran finally woke from her second sleep, it was already 11 a.m.
With a “whoosh,” she jumped out of bed.
Oh no, she’d overslept!!!
She rushed downstairs all at once and saw Min Wenyi sitting alone on the sofa watching a drama.
Yu Ran awkwardly said, “I overslept. Did you eat breakfast?”
Min Wenyi was munching on a cucumber and said, “It’s okay, we’ll have brunch together.”
Yu Ran nodded, tying up her hair as she asked, “Anything you want to eat?”
“Anything’s fine.”
“Then how about fruit salad?”
Min Wenyi shook her head with a hint of disgust, “Fried chicken.”
Yu Ran had never seen her say that so decisively, especially asking for something so calorie-packed.
She looked at Min Wenyi puzzled and asked, “No more filming ads?”
“Mm,” Min Wenyi said, “Not for now.”
“Oh…”
Yu Ran didn’t understand why the originally scheduled filming suddenly stopped, but since it was Min Wenyi’s work, she felt awkward asking more.
Noticing Yu Ran’s question, Min Wenyi looked at the TV drama and said, “I’m going to an awards ceremony in a few days, so filming is postponed for a month.”
“Awards ceremony?”
Yu Ran was surprised. Min Wenyi was very talented, that much Yu Ran knew from the start.
To get this far at such a young age, besides her looks, Min Wenyi was also very capable in other ways.
“What kind of award?” Yu Ran became interested; she hadn’t seen many entertainment awards before.
Min Wenyi smiled lightly and pointed at the TV drama with the remote, saying, “This one.”
On the screen was a drama starring Min Wenyi—the same one Yu Ran had followed when she first started working.
By then, most of the scenes were already filmed, so Yu Ran didn’t fully know the story.
At this point in the drama, roughly halfway through, Min Wenyi’s character was investigating and collecting evidence but didn’t look like a police officer.
“This is about a senior college student facing the pressure of finding a job and graduation problems, who meets a wandering ghost still attached to the school.”
Min Wenyi said to Yu Ran, “Didn’t you notice that when filming, the male lead often stands on a skateboard?”
Yu Ran suddenly understood, “I thought he was just a sporty guy.”
Min Wenyi laughed happily and said to Yu Ran, “This TV drama was nominated for the Ziwei Awards, so next week I’m going to the award ceremony.”
Yu Ran’s eyes lit up, “Will you win?”
“No one knows until the end,” Min Wenyi said, “But I’m sure I won’t just be a runner-up.”
“Great!” Yu Ran cheered her on, “I’ll make fried chicken to celebrate!”
Even though the result wasn’t decided yet, the little assistant was more excited than her.
Min Wenyi was used to flattery from others, but she found Yu Ran’s sincere encouragement especially heartwarming.
“Fried chicken? I want cheese flavor.”
“Okay!”
“Can I have some fries too?”
“Sure!”
“Then… can I get a hug?”
“Okay!”
Yu Ran froze, “What?”
Min Wenyi smiled brightly, walked over, opened her arms, and pulled her into a hug.
Yu Ran felt soft and light, smelling the scent on Min Wenyi’s neck, and Min Wenyi felt very satisfied.
She whispered into Yu Ran’s ear, “Next week, come with me.”
It wasn’t a question or a command.
Yu Ran felt a little dazed, blushing as she nodded.
“Okay…”
That ‘okay’ was as soft as a quiet stream.
The following week, Min Wenyi was busier than usual.
She had endless phone calls and visitors every day.
Online, the Ziwei Awards promotion was everywhere across the country.
The nominees this year are all familiar faces~
Min Wenyi’s latest drama is amazing. I think she’ll definitely get nominated.
Best Actress in a TV Drama? No one can beat Min Wenyi.
If nothing unexpected happens, this will be Min Wenyi’s third award this year!
Wow, what kind of goddess is she?!
The internet was flooded with praise for Min Wenyi’s drama. Yu Ran also followed along and found Min Wenyi’s acting truly impressive.
She perfectly played a college girl standing at a difficult crossroads in life, full of challenges.
Besides the male lead being a newcomer, the other actors weren’t very famous either. Yet their acting was just as good. Plus, the script had been revised and polished for over seven years, showing a lot of effort.
Yu Ran saw the heroine, played by Min Wenyi, standing by the school pond watching the male lead, now just a gentle spring breeze, smiling quietly at the sunset.
No matter how tough the future was, or how dangerous the road, the will to keep trying never changed.
This 24-episode drama clearly explained the conflicts and tensions between the two leads, leaving a deep impression.
“Do you have everything packed?”
Min Wenyi’s manager, Yi Qiao, had already arrived early and was waiting in the living room.
As a top manager, Yi Qiao had launched many stars before turning 30, with Min Wenyi being her biggest success.
So Yi Qiao had firmly established her position in the agency.
Min Wenyi calmly packed her things and was about to leave.
“Wait.” Yi Qiao stopped her and looked at the bag in her hand, “Why are you carrying your own bag?”
Min Wenyi looked puzzled, then as if remembering something, handed the bag to Yu Ran and softly said, “Yu Ran, hold this for me.”
Yu Ran nodded.
Though Min Wenyi and Yu Ran were close at home, few people outside knew about their relationship.
Yi Qiao was busy handling work and didn’t know either. She was just following usual practice—stars shouldn’t carry their own bags, especially at such an important event.
“The sponsors have been arranged. Once you change clothes, we can drive straight there.”
Yi Qiao pushed her short hair back and told Min Wenyi, “It’s the same old sponsors. They put a lot of effort into the design for you this time. Remember to praise them a bit on Weibo after the event.”
Min Wenyi looked bored staring out the window and gave a faint “Hmm.”
“I’ve been so busy today. The boss asked me to look after a newbie too. I have no time for that. Really fed up.”
“After the awards ceremony tonight, there’s a banquet, so I won’t get back until late. My new boyfriend is probably going to be upset again.”
“Min Wenyi, if only I were as famous as you, then the government would give me points for a wife.”
Yi Qiao kept chatting non-stop while Min Wenyi just listened quietly.
Sometimes she responded with a hum.
The manager was used to Min Wenyi’s indifferent attitude.
She then told Yu Ran, who was driving, “Turn up ahead, then take a turn and we’ll reach the venue. Change clothes backstage first.”
Yu Ran nodded and drove over.
Looking at the million-dollar cars parked around, Yu Ran felt dazzled. She didn’t know their exact prices but could tell they were very expensive.
Carefully parking in a spot, they all got out.
Yi Qiao opened Min Wenyi’s car door, saw Yu Ran also get out, and said, “Yu Ran, wait in the car for us. We still need to drive to the main entrance for the red carpet later.”
Yu Ran nodded, about to get back into the car.
“Wait.”
Min Wenyi glanced at Yu Ran and said, “Yi Qiao, you’ve been busy all day. Since the red carpet is just a formality, let Yu Ran come in with me.”
