Are You Trying to Mark Me? (GL, ABO) - Chapter 2
The moment Yu Ran saw Min Wenyi for the first time, she felt like the whole world went blank.
Min Wenyi’s thick, black hair swayed in the air, blown by the fan. Her thin lips, tinted like vermilion, looked just like a shining ruby.
Her eyes were like the night sky, vast and filled with a kind of beautiful confusion.
Yu Ran stared blankly for more than ten seconds before realizing the woman next to her had already walked far ahead.
“Chen Jie.”
“Chen Jie.”
The woman called Chen Jie touched her growing belly, smiled, nodded, and waved Yu Ran over.
Yu Ran hurried over and stood beside her.
“See the people filming over there?” Chen Jie whispered to her, “From now on, you’ll be taking care of her.”
Yu Ran nodded and then asked, “What’s her name? I think I’ve seen her a lot on TV dramas.”
As soon as she said this, everyone around gave her looks like she was an alien.
“Seriously? You don’t even know Min Wenyi?”
“Her dramas and movies have been hits for years, and her songs are everywhere. You don’t know her?”
“Oh my god, Chen Jie, where did you find this smart little ghost?”
Yu Ran felt a bit embarrassed. Growing up in an orphanage, she hardly had time for entertainment. Besides school, she was busy taking care of the younger kids. Only rarely did she watch a TV show.
Although she felt a little ignorant for not knowing Min Wenyi, it wasn’t like she wanted to…
Chen Jie didn’t show any strange reaction. She quieted down the crowd and said, “It’s okay if you don’t know Wenyi. No big deal.”
Then she turned to Yu Ran and said, “It’s actually better you don’t know. If a crazy fan came in, I wouldn’t dare let them be Wenyi’s assistant. You’re just right.”
“Chen Jie, you’re too easygoing.”
“If it were my boss, she’d probably explode on the spot.”
“Your boss is famously hard to please. Only you can handle her…”
Listening to the gossip, Yu Ran felt awkward and said, “Sorry, I grew up in an orphanage and didn’t watch much TV…”
Everyone immediately quieted down.
“Oh, sorry, we didn’t know you were from an orphanage.”
“Actually, Wenyi is really nice. You’ll like her.”
Yu Ran smiled and nodded, “Thank you all.”
Even though she was the one being teased, she smiled and thanked them anyway, which made the group feel a bit ashamed.
“All right, the filming is almost done.” Chen Jie glanced at the director and said to Yu Ran, “Come with me to meet Min Wenyi. You’ll be spending a lot of time together from now on.”
“Okay.”
Min Wenyi stood up, brushed the dirt off her clothes, and a staff member handed her a bottle of water.
“Thank you for your hard work.”
“Thanks, thanks.”
The director shouted through the megaphone, “Break for an hour. We’ll film scene 1452 later. Wenyi, your scenes are done for today, you can go home.”
Min Wenyi flicked her hair back and said, “Okay.”
As the female lead walked out of the set, she saw Chen Jie bringing a chestnut-haired girl over.
Wiping the sweat from her brow with a towel, Min Wenyi approached.
As she got closer, Min Wenyi caught a faint scent.
But when she sniffed carefully, the scent was gone.
It felt like a trick of her mind.
She paused, thinking maybe she was imagining things. After all, this set was full of Alphas and Betas. How could there be an Omega’s scent here?
Although there were a few well-known Omega actors in the entertainment industry, all of them played delicate, sweet, and pitiful roles because their nature didn’t suit fierce characters.
If the new assistant was an Omega actor, Min Wenyi wouldn’t be surprised. But today, only Alpha actors were on set. So where did this little Omega slip in?
She didn’t think too much about it and went to her resting area to sit down, planning to rest before going home.
“Wenyi,” Chen Jie came over and said, “This is your new assistant. Do you have anything to tell her?”
Min Wenyi hesitated for a moment, then looked up at the girl.
Yu Ran was small, with a petite face and big watery eyes that looked very obedient.
From her appearance, there was nothing wrong. As long as she looked decent, that was enough.
Min Wenyi raised her chin, “You’re Yu Ran?”
Yu Ran nodded, surprised that this big star remembered her name.
Suddenly, she felt the person in front of her wasn’t as hard to approach as she’d thought.
But what came next shocked Yu Ran.
“Come stay at my place tonight,” Min Wenyi said calmly. “Let’s see if you’re fit to be my assistant.”
Stay at my place tonight.
Stay at my place tonight.
Tonight…!!
Yu Ran’s face flushed red in an instant. She was just a girl—how could she possibly stay at an Alpha’s house?
“I-I’m not that kind of person!” Yu Ran said angrily, her face burning red. “I’m here to work, not to sell myself!”
Min Wenyi was momentarily stunned. She felt like the word used here didn’t quite fit.
But seeing the young girl’s flushed face, Min Wenyi reached out to stop Chen Jie, who was about to explain. She turned to Yu Ran and asked, “Then what skill are you selling?”
Yu Ran took two steps back, clenching her small fists tightly. “I can cook, clean, and drive, but I really don’t sell myself!”
Min Wenyi crossed her legs and raised her chin at her. “Anyone can do those things. Don’t you have anything else?”
Yu Ran hesitated, then thought carefully. It seemed she really wasn’t good at anything else.
“I… I don’t know, maybe I can learn…”
Min Wenyi looked at her playfully. “You can learn anything?”
“Yes, anything.”
“Heh.”
Seeing the conversation was about to head somewhere awkward, Sister Chen sighed and interrupted helplessly, “Alright, Wenyi, stop joking around.”
She then looked at Yu Ran and said, “As a personal assistant, you need to take care of Min Wenyi from morning till night. So tonight, you’ll stay at the apartment. Since you’ll often have to live with Wenyi for work, it’s better to get used to it.”
Yu Ran was stunned. “I can, but…”
I just rented my own place…
“The apartment will have a room arranged for you,” Sister Chen said. “Is there anything inconvenient for you?”
Inconvenient…
Yu Ran instinctively touched her bag, which still held three suppressants.
“No problem,” Yu Ran nodded. “Nothing inconvenient.”
Not all Alphas go into heat, right?
Holding on to that hope, Yu Ran agreed to stay overnight at the apartment and then left the set.
“What do you think of her?” Sister Chen glanced at Min Wenyi. “You rarely tease others. What’s up with you today?”
Min Wenyi tilted her head back, took a sip of water, and chuckled softly, “Nothing, I just think the girl is cute.”
“Cute or not, don’t forget you already have a matched Omega. Don’t be like those other Alpha actors who can’t keep their personal lives clean.”
Min Wenyi paused. She knew Sister Chen was warning her. Society still mostly protected Omegas, and the entertainment industry was even more complicated. Once a scandal broke out, not even PR teams could easily handle it.
“I know,” Min Wenyi said, standing up. “Let’s go home. I’m tired after filming all night.”
All day, Yu Ran packed her things. Everything else was manageable, but suppressants were a must.
Even though her ID was changed to Beta, it was only on paper. Yu Ran still needed to take suppressants regularly to keep herself from going into heat.
Being an Omega was so annoying…
Yu Ran slung her small backpack over her shoulder, closed her room door, and got ready to take the bus to Min Wenyi’s place.
Sister Chen had sent her the location—an upscale residential complex with security gates, guards, and beautiful landscaping. A nice place to live.
Following the navigation, Yu Ran walked forward.
You have arrived at your destination. Navigation ended.
Hearing the familiar female voice, Yu Ran looked up at the tall building in front of her. This must be the place.
As Yu Ran walked over, someone suddenly briskly passed by behind her. The person wore black clothes and a black hat, and despite it being evening, sported large sunglasses.
Yu Ran thought this person was going inside but saw him just standing still by the side.
“Um…” Yu Ran asked quietly, “Sir, aren’t you going in?”
The apartment entrance had a security door that needed a code to open.
The man looked down at Yu Ran and said in a low voice, “Not going in. Are you?”
Yu Ran nodded.
The man quickly said, “Great, I’m going in too. You enter the code.”
Yu Ran was stunned. “Sir, don’t you live here?”
“…”
He stared at Yu Ran impatiently. “Hurry up and open the door!”
Yu Ran was startled, unsure what to do.
Click—
The glass door opened from the inside. Sister Chen stood there, frowning deeply as she looked at Yu Ran and the man.
“Who are you?” Sister Chen raised her voice. “Leave right now or I’ll call security!”
“Tch…”
The man pulled his hat lower over his eyes, glanced at Yu Ran, and quickly walked away.
Yu Ran didn’t understand what happened and asked, “Sister Chen, who was that just now?”
“A sasaeng fan,” Sister Chen said disdainfully. “They often stalk Wenyi. If you see any weird people like that, don’t engage them. They’re dangerous.”
Yu Ran nodded, taking the warning seriously.
Seeing Yu Ran’s pale face, Sister Chen smiled slightly. “You came just in time. I just finished cooking. Come upstairs and eat some?”
“No, no, I already ate on the way…”
Before she finished, Yu Ran’s stomach growled loudly.
Sister Chen laughed, her eyes curved warmly. “Come on in, Wenyi’s been waiting for you a long time.”
