Are You Trying to Mark Me? (GL, ABO) - Chapter 28
Yu Ran seemed to have heard the words “you two”?
At the same time, Min Wenyi also froze a bit, looking at Chu Jiazhi with a strange expression. “What variety show are you talking about?”
Min Wenyi had appeared on quite a few variety shows and was pretty experienced with them. But judging by Chu Jiazhi’s face, she suddenly had a bad feeling.
The man sitting in the leather chair lifted his eyes and glanced at the two of them casually, then slowly said, “It’s a variety show called Me and My Assistant.”
Me and My Assistant was a show popular for a long time in Korea and Japan. It focused on a slow-paced, everyday life story where a celebrity lived in the countryside with their assistant.
The main theme was a warm, slow-paced daily life, designed to show the audience the private life of stars.
The domestic version had bought the remake rights first, so for the first season of Me and My Assistant, they naturally invited some well-known stars.
Min Wenyi looked at Chu Jiazhi and furrowed her beautiful brows. “What do you mean?”
Chu Jiazhi smiled, “I mean you and your assistant can join this variety show. It’s a good chance to officially announce your departure from your old agency with your first work.”
Chu Jiazhi took a contract out of his bag and put it on the table. “Here’s your contract. I’ve already reviewed it—there’s no problem.”
Then he pulled out another contract from below.
“This one,” Chu Jiazhi looked at Yu Ran with a smile, “is Yu Ran’s contract.”
Yu Ran stared blankly at the thin contract in front of her.
What does this mean?
She’s going to be on a variety show???
Ah???
It was like she half-understood but also didn’t!
Before Yu Ran could say anything, Min Wenyi slammed her hand on the table and glared, “No way! Who said Yu Ran could go on a variety show?!”
Chu Jiazhi still wore his elegant, charming smile and said to Min Wenyi, “I never said you had to sign it right away. You can think it over. The filming starts in December, so there’s still some time.”
Min Wenyi frowned. She had no problem going on a variety show herself, but she wasn’t okay with Yu Ran going along.
Yu Ran was an Omega, and only the two of them knew this for now. Many variety shows have live broadcasts these days. If something went wrong, Min Wenyi was sure it would cause big trouble.
Just as she was about to refuse, Chu Jiazhi stopped her and looked at Yu Ran instead. “Little assistant, what do you think?”
“Ah?”
Yu Ran was a bit overwhelmed—she still hadn’t recovered from the shock of possibly going on a variety show.
Chu Jiazhi smiled. “Your fee isn’t high—one million before tax. It’s a good chance to make money.”
One million before tax???
Seeing Yu Ran zoning out, probably trying to figure out how many zeros that was, Chu Jiazhi couldn’t help but smile broadly—though his face still kept a polite smile.
After all, he couldn’t be too obvious about it.
“You two can think it over,” Chu Jiazhi said, standing up and addressing the people inside the room. “I’ll leave the contracts here. Decide before next week and call me anytime. I still need to contact others.”
Watching Chu Jiazhi swagger out, Yu Ran couldn’t help but glance at the contract.
Slap—
Min Wenyi slapped the table and turned to Lu An. “Why aren’t you leaving yet?”
Lu An quickly stood up and followed Chu Jiazhi out.
The room was left with just the two of them.
Yu Ran picked up the soft pink book Exclusive Pampering from the floor and looked at the cover. It didn’t look like the kind of ‘little emperor’ novel she expected at all.
Min Wenyi turned and sat down, crossing her long legs, showing off her smooth, white ankles.
“That variety show…” Yu Ran hugged the book and cautiously asked, “You really don’t want me to go?”
Min Wenyi glanced at her and thought for a long moment before saying, “It’s not that I don’t want you to, it’s just that you might find it troublesome.”
Yu Ran was confused.
Min Wenyi explained, “It’s a slow-paced show—mostly chopping wood, cooking, and hosting guests.”
Yu Ran replied, “I can cook.”
Min Wenyi said, “But you also have to get along with villagers and occasionally do farm work.”
Yu Ran: “That’s no problem either.”
“…And you have to live with me.”
“…”
Yu Ran looked at Min Wenyi and asked, “Do we have to live together?”
Min Wenyi nodded. “And on set, I’m not the only Alpha. You’ll meet lots of different Alphas. Even so, would you still go?”
Yu Ran was silent, clutching the book. After a pause, she said, “If you’re going, then… I can come with you.”
Actually, Min Wenyi didn’t need the money or the exposure.
Besides, at her level now, many offers were beneath her. She only needed to appear in one or two works a year, which was considered productive. Most other stars would only release a work every three or four years.
Min Wenyi just felt that she was still young and didn’t want to fade away too quickly from the public eye. That’s why she kept up the pace of doing two projects a year, plus occasional variety shows.
Luckily, she was already used to it.
The resources Chu Jiazhi brought this time were kind of a first in the country. After all, the whole “celebrity assistant” angle had some appeal.
But could Yu Ran really handle it? After all, she had just entered the industry.
Min Wenyi tugged at the slightly scratched collar of her sweater and said calmly, “Let’s answer him after some time. I’m going to change clothes first.”
With that, she got up and went upstairs.
Yu Ran looked at the contract on the table. After thinking about it, she decided to pack it away so Min Wenyi wouldn’t forget.
In the following days, Min Wenyi didn’t mention the variety show again. Yu Ran didn’t ask either — after all, the show invited Min Wenyi, not her, a little assistant who just cooked.
It was a sunny day. Yu Ran stood on the balcony, hanging freshly washed clothes to dry, when she saw a peacock-green Ferrari slowly stop on the road below.
The green was bright, shining like a beam of light.
While hanging the clothes, Yu Ran wondered whose car it was — such a flashy one.
Before she could get more curious, the car door was pushed open.
Chu Jiazhi, dressed in a white suit, stepped out from the driver’s seat. He rested his right hand on the door, adjusted his sunglasses with his left, and looked up towards the rooftop.
Their eyes met. Chu Jiazhi smiled slightly and waved.
Yu Ran didn’t know why, but even though she didn’t know this man well, they’d met twice before. Since he waved at her, she naturally waved back.
Seeing his assistant waving from the balcony, Chu Jiazhi was especially happy.
Min Wenyi had such a cute assistant — it was truly enviable.
At that moment, Min Wenyi was sitting on her bed, flipping through two books she had bought.
In How to Get Along with Omegas, it said the matching system selects partners based on genetic similarity. Generally, once matched, 70% of people become lifelong partners.
Min Wenyi sneered. Had this book completely ignored her situation? An alpha who didn’t want to marry and an omega who didn’t want to marry.
The book went on to say that successful matches resonate with each other’s pheromones, giving off a scent only the other can be attracted to, which makes them gradually addicted.
Flipping a page, Min Wenyi read that couples who matched and lived together long-term would become dependent and get unusually irritable if the other was flirted with.
Later chapters talked about how to prevent pregnancy with an omega, how to care for them during heat, and post-birth care.
Min Wenyi frowned and muttered, “This has nothing to do with me, right?”
What she wanted was a guide for an omega pretending to be a beta, living peacefully under the same roof with her alpha boss.
Not this kind of guide on matched couples getting along.
Min Wenyi was puzzled. Was her situation so unusual that not even the book mentioned it???
Before she could figure it out, she heard Yu Ran’s voice.
“Boss, I’m heading out.”
Min Wenyi didn’t look up from the bed and simply replied, “Got it.”
After hearing the door downstairs close, Min Wenyi tossed How to Get Along with Omegas aside and picked up her other book.
The Five Major Signs of Omega Heat
When Yu Ran went downstairs, she saw Chu Jiazhi leaning against her Ferrari.
“Mr. Chu, did you need something?”
Yu Ran hurried over, then slowed down.
Chu Jiazhi looked at the small, slim-waisted, petite Yu Ran in her home clothes and suddenly thought she looked especially cute.
If he could gossip about the details of these two people’s lives, he would be satisfied!
Still, his elegant face held a polite and friendly smile.
“Do you have time? I want to invite you out for coffee.”
Yu Ran scratched her head awkwardly. “I still have chores to do, and it’s almost lunchtime…”
Basically, she was saying she couldn’t go out with him.
The man didn’t press. “Then how about sitting in the car for a bit? It’s still cold today.”
“No, no. If you have something to say, just say it.”
“All right then.”
Chu Jiazhi took off his sunglasses and said to Yu Ran, “Could you help persuade Min Wenyi to join this variety show?”
