Are You Trying to Mark Me? (GL, ABO) - Chapter 3
When Yu Ran stepped into Min Wenyi’s home, she finally understood what “worlds apart” really meant.
The two-story apartment had high ceilings and a simple, stylish design. The wooden floors and stairs felt more like decorations than just functional parts of the house.
A chandelier in the living room lit up every corner, making it feel like stepping from night into broad daylight.
Yu Ran had never seen such an exquisite place before. She didn’t even know what to do as soon as she walked in.
“Come in and sit,” Sister Chen said as she walked ahead, “I’ll quickly explain some things to you. Make sure you remember them well.”
Yu Ran felt a slight coolness under her feet from the wooden floor. Before she could get used to it, she saw Sister Chen already heading into the kitchen.
“This place has everything — whether it’s for making desserts, soups, or baking, all the ingredients and tools are here,” Sister Chen said, holding the fridge handle as she spoke behind Yu Ran. “You don’t need to make complicated meals. Wenyi can’t eat greasy or body-shaping-damaging food. Boiled spinach and eggs are her usual.”
“Wenyi doesn’t eat cilantro or chopped green onions. No ginger or garlic either. She’s slightly allergic to seafood, so don’t let her have too much. Sometimes she wakes up grumpy, but no matter how much she drags her feet, you have to get her up for work—otherwise, you’ll be the one in trouble.”
After that, Sister Chen went over many other details. Yu Ran carefully took notes and finally let out a sigh of relief.
“Is that everything?”
From upstairs by the glass railing, Min Wenyi stood in a black silk nightgown, looking down at the two of them.
Yu Ran looked up and saw her pale neck and ears tinged with a soft pink.
Her long arms rested on the railing, her ten fingers slender and fair, like finely carved white jade.
“Almost done,” Sister Chen said, looking up at Min Wenyi. “Are you hungry?”
“Mm.”
Min Wenyi answered lazily, “Just woke up. Something light, please.”
After filming all night yesterday, Min Wenyi came home and collapsed into bed. She just woke up now.
“Then let’s have some boiled salad and steamed egg custard.”
“Okay.”
Sister Chen glanced at Yu Ran and smiled, “Can you handle that?”
Yu Ran blinked, suddenly realizing she was expected to cook, and quickly nodded, “I can do it! I’ll cook!”
Watching Yu Ran head into the kitchen, Min Wenyi yawned.
Before long, Yu Ran had prepared a whole spread.
Besides the vegetable salad and steamed egg custard Min Wenyi requested, she also made some snacks and a basket of soup dumplings.
Min Wenyi looked at the dumplings with longing eyes.
Sister Chen smiled softly, “Go ahead and eat. Yu Ran made them.”
Min Wenyi hummed and picked up a dumpling, biting into it.
Carrot filling.
The fresh, clean taste of carrot lifted Min Wenyi’s mood. Looks like this girl really could cook.
Seeing Min Wenyi eat two dumplings in a row, Sister Chen felt relieved that she really liked Yu Ran’s cooking.
“Tonight, you two get along well,” Sister Chen said, picking up a coat from the living room rack and turning to Min Wenyi. “I’m starting maternity leave tomorrow.”
Min Wenyi nodded. Sister Chen then waved to Yu Ran and left the apartment.
Suddenly, the whole place fell completely silent, with only Yu Ran standing by the table and Min Wenyi leisurely eating salad.
“Uh, um…” Yu Ran said, a little embarrassed, “Boss, do you want anything else to eat?”
“No.”
Min Wenyi lowered her eyes, not wanting to talk. “The guest room at the very back on the first floor is your bedroom. Don’t go upstairs unless necessary. Wake me up at 6 a.m. tomorrow.”
Yu Ran nodded, having noted it all.
“I’ll go put my bag down now.”
“Mm.”
Seeing Min Wenyi had nothing else to say, Yu Ran went around the table to the living room to grab her backpack.
Suddenly, a familiar scent drifted into Min Wenyi’s nose.
It was faint and soft, like the smell of milk.
“???”
Min Wenyi looked around, but when she sniffed carefully again, the scent was gone.
Was she still half asleep?
She lifted her long hair and realized she actually smelled Omega pheromones in her own home.
She must be going crazy from tiredness…
Yu Ran rested in the guest room. After putting down her bag and taking out her clothes, she heard a knock on the door.
Outside, Min Wenyi said, “The director just called. We have to shoot some extra scenes tonight. Wait for me by the door.”
What? Shooting late-night scenes?
Yu Ran held her nightdress, feeling a bit wronged, and replied softly, “Okay…”
After eating two dumplings in the kitchen, Yu Ran was taken by Min Wenyi to the underground parking lot. When they arrived at the studio, it was still brightly lit inside.
They shot until 2 a.m. before the director finally let them off. Min Wenyi was full of energy, but poor Yu Ran was nearly falling asleep.
Her eyes were barely open.
Back at the apartment, she didn’t even shower before collapsing onto the bed, falling into a deep sleep until the next day.
Ring ring ring—
The phone alarm blared like it had no mercy. Half asleep, Yu Ran reached out and turned it off.
The morning sun at 6 a.m. rose as usual.
When Min Wenyi finished washing up and got dressed to go downstairs, she found the kitchen and living room empty.
After thinking for a moment, she walked over to Yu Ran’s door and slowly pushed it open.
The curtains were tightly drawn, and the dim room had only one lump on the bed.
The owner of the chestnut hair was still sound asleep, her face exposed, with stray hairs on her forehead moving gently with each breath.
They had filmed until 2 a.m. yesterday and only got home around 3. Min Wenyi was used to it, but this little assistant didn’t seem to have adapted yet.
She reached out and gently tapped the girl’s face.
“Wake up, it’s almost 7.”
Yu Ran wrinkled her nose, curled deeper into the blankets, and mumbled softly, “Just five more minutes…”
Min Wenyi found it amusing. She sat on the edge of the bed, looking down at her face.
Yu Ran’s skin was perfect—smooth and soft, like a piece of cream cheese in her hand. Min Wenyi had seen many beautiful women, but she thought Yu Ran’s sleeping face was almost ridiculously cute.
If she kept sleeping, she’d be late. Min Wenyi glanced at her and kept urging, “Get up. Breakfast will be on the way. If you leave now, there’s still time…”
No sooner had she said this than Yu Ran stretched two hands out from under the covers and caught Min Wenyi’s hand that had been tapping her cheek.
“Mm… five more minutes…”
Her arm pressed warmly against Min Wenyi’s chest. Min Wenyi was stunned—she could feel Yu Ran’s body heat even in sleep.
Hot, yet gentle.
Her forearm was held tightly between Min Wenyi’s chest, and her fingers lightly touched Yu Ran’s lips. The soft breathing made Min Wenyi a little unsettled.
This girl looked small but was surprisingly well-developed.
Min Wenyi’s gaze darkened. She pulled her hand away forcefully, stood by the bed, and looked at Yu Ran as she slowly opened her eyes. She said sharply, “Aren’t you going to get up? Look what time it is!”
Yu Ran blinked her sleepy eyes at her boss with a slow reaction.
“Mm…?”
Half an hour later.
When they parked at the set, luckily neither of them was late.
Yu Ran ran alongside Min Wenyi into the set, holding eggs in one hand and steamed buns in the other, and called out to Min Wenyi, who was striding ahead.
“Eggs, eggs…”
She meant, were they still eating the eggs?
Min Wenyi glanced back and smiled faintly. “Eat them yourself, then go wait for me in the lounge.”
Right after she said that, the exclusive stylist grabbed Min Wenyi and pulled her toward the makeup room, complaining about how late she was.
Yu Ran stood dumbfounded on the set, looking around but couldn’t find the lounge.
After asking about seven or eight people, she finally found it.
The “lounge” was just a small tent with some tables and equipment inside, a place where people could rest while also watching the machines—a two-birds-one-stone setup.
Inside were a few assistants gathered together, cracking sunflower seeds or making phone calls.
Since the stars were busy filming, they didn’t have much work except serving tea and water later.
So when they saw Yu Ran come in, they didn’t bother to pay much attention.
But since she was new, someone spoke to her.
“Hey, whose assistant are you?”
The girl with the closest seat to Yu Ran had her hair tied in princess buns. Seeing Yu Ran sitting quietly in the corner, she said, “New here, huh?”
Yu Ran nodded politely, “My boss is Min Wenyi. It’s my first day.”
“Oh, Min Wenyi’s new assistant?”
“Heh.”
Suddenly everyone was interested. They all knew Sister Chen was about to give birth and naturally needed a new personal assistant. The girl in front of them looked like a little white rabbit and seemed clueless about where she had gotten herself.
One woman with short red hair crossed her legs, tilted her chin, and said to Yu Ran, “First day on the job and already sitting? Didn’t Sister Chen teach you the rules?”
Yu Ran looked confused.
The short-haired woman sneered, “Looks like she’s in a hurry to have the baby and didn’t explain things well. How are you going to serve the boss like that?”
Yu Ran was puzzled and carefully asked, “Rules? What rules?”
“Rules are that when you see your seniors, you have to bow and greet them,” the woman said. “Now stand up and introduce yourself properly. Min Wenyi is a big star, and her assistant must know the rules.”
After she said this, the others covered their mouths to laugh, and some even chuckled out loud.
“Nannan, don’t pick on her. She’s obviously fresh out of school. Why make her introduce herself?”
“Yeah, we’ll all be coworkers soon.”
The woman called Nannan sighed helplessly and spread her hands toward Yu Ran.
“See? So many nice sisters spoke up for you. I’m really happy for you, but rules must be followed. The entertainment industry isn’t your school. You have to learn how to read people.”
“I see…”
Yu Ran frowned, feeling something was off.
Seeing no sign of understanding, the woman said, “Go buy each of us a drink. When you come back, I’ll tell you a little secret about Min Wenyi.”
Meanwhile, on set, Min Wenyi suddenly saw Yu Ran carrying a big bag of drinks into the young actors’ lounge not far away. She frowned.
What trouble is this little thing getting into now?
