Are You Trying to Mark Me? (GL, ABO) - Chapter 31
After boarding the plane, it took just over four hours to arrive in the warm, spring-like south.
When they got off, Yu Ran was almost overwhelmed by the heat. Even though it was winter, the temperature difference between north and south was huge. When they took off, it was around three or four degrees, but here it was already seventeen or eighteen degrees.
Fortunately, Chu Jiazhi’s assistant reminded Yu Ran to change into lighter clothes before getting off the plane.
Just as they arrived at the waiting lounge, everyone who had been chatting and joking suddenly went quiet. Yu Ran watched them put on hats and masks skillfully and thought the scene was kind of funny.
The crew was already waiting for them and led Min Wenyi and the others straight to the cars.
On the way, there were still fans waiting to greet them, but this time Min Wenyi barely acknowledged them—she just waved her hand lightly as a greeting.
After sitting on the plane for so long, even first class was hard to bear. The two Alphas were okay, but because of his physical condition, Lu An’s face looked green.
Yu Ran wasn’t feeling much better either.
“If you’re not feeling well, take two motion sickness pills,” Min Wenyi said, taking the water handed over by a crew member and turning to Yu Ran. “Otherwise, you might cause problems by saying you’re unwell.”
Yu Ran nodded, took the motion sickness medicine first, then swallowed two suppressant pills. Only then did her face look a bit better.
“Due to time constraints, I’ll give a quick briefing now.”
The crew member spoke with a soft southern accent, which sounded cute and gentle.
He told everyone, “Filming will start as soon as you get off the car, so please be careful. Also, one celebrity has already arrived early at the guesthouse, so we’ll gather there later.”
Yu Ran raised her head to drink water. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Lu An speaking with the crew and then turning to leave.
“Huh, why did Mr. Lu An leave?” one of the directors giving instructions asked, puzzled. “Where’s he going?”
The crew member who had just spoken explained, “He said he’s going to pick up his assistant.”
“Oh, I see. Then let’s continue.”
Yu Ran hugged her bottle and quietly asked Min Wenyi, “Is Tong Xinxin coming?”
But wasn’t Tong Xinxin their whole team’s assistant?
Still, it could be possible, since they were on the show.
Just thinking about a familiar face coming made Yu Ran especially happy. Before coming, she had worried whether she could do well, but now seeing familiar faces, she didn’t feel so scared.
Min Wenyi shook her head and said, “I’m not sure either.”
Yu Ran didn’t mind and thought they’d know when the time came. She was really hoping to live with Tong Xinxin.
The directors kept giving some reminders, but since it was a slow-paced variety show, there wasn’t much to pay special attention to. It was basically like playing around.
This was exactly what Min Wenyi told Yu Ran.
From driving, to exiting the highway, and slowly entering a lush forest path, only then did the faint signs of people appear nearby.
In the dim sunset, the whole scene looked like a beautiful painting.
After getting off the car, they saw Lu An already standing at the door, taking his luggage off a nearby taxi. He looked surprised to see Yu Ran and the others had just arrived.
The camera moved in, filming everyone’s faces.
“You’re here,” Lu An greeted everyone, showing his usual cold and distant “cool boy” persona, saying coldly, “This place looks nice. So, what do you want us to do?”
“You’ll find out tomorrow,” someone said.
The director stood behind the camera and told everyone, “This is a live broadcast plus recording, so you all need to work hard!”
Everyone nodded.
Yu Ran quietly slipped behind Min Wenyi and reached out to pinch Lu An’s jacket softly, whispering, “Where’s your assistant?”
Lu An pointed to the nearby suitcase and said, “Right here.”
Before anyone could react, Lu An opened the suitcase, and an orange little ball of fur timidly peeked its head out.
Everyone on the crew went silent.
…
Is that a cat????
Guazi the cat was probably feeling car sick, looking all limp and closing its eyes, burying its head in its paws as if playing dead.
“Lu An, we asked for an assistant, not a cat!”
The crew looked at Guazi’s lazy pose and felt a bit troubled.
Meanwhile, in the live broadcast room, viewers were laughing their heads off.
“Haha, who is this? So cute! Bringing a cat on the show?”
“This cat looks so fat!”
“Nine out of ten orange cats are chubby, and this one’s especially chubby!”
“Hahahahahahaha hiccup”
Lu An pinched Guazi’s little ear and said, “It sleeps with me every day, helps me relax, and does chores with me. It’s my assistant.”
The crew exchanged awkward glances.
“This assistant gets one million for ten episodes of a variety show, but this cat definitely isn’t worth that price.”
“Huh?”
Lu An pulled out the prepared contract, and right there was a clear round paw print of a cat.
“It even signed it.”
Everyone was trying hard not to laugh, especially Chu Jiazhi, whose face turned purple from laughing. After catching his breath, he said, “Lu An, the director’s right. Your cat assistant should be at least half price.”
“Well… that works?”
Guazi slowly lifted her head and softly meowed.
“Meow—”
Lu An said seriously, “Actually, it doesn’t even need payment, just food. It doesn’t eat much.”
Hahaha, he said the orange cat doesn’t eat much
He’s bringing an orange cat—how is that going to work for post-production tasks?
A small little Omega assistant doing the work of two people, no problem!
If Chu Jiazhi brought a cat, I’d say he could totally handle twice the work alone.
“Alright!”
The director shouted through a megaphone, “Everyone’s here now. Lu An, take your assistant and let’s head into the village!”
From the entrance of the guesthouse village, they walked in for about ten minutes. The cameraman kept following behind, and Yu Ran kept looking back at him, feeling very uneasy.
Min Wenyi looked at Yu Ran and quietly said, “Don’t be nervous. Just do what you did before. Look, Lu An is doing just fine, right?”
Yu Ran glanced at Lu An, who was turning the corner, and hesitated, “But I still…”
Before she finished, they saw a tall guesthouse lit up brightly at the end of the road.
That was the destination.
At the end of the road, besides the staff, Yu Ran spotted a tall figure and immediately covered her mouth in surprise.
He wore an orange-yellow baseball jacket, and his expression was somewhere between mature and youthful. He waved at everyone and walked over.
Yu Hongwen, a famous singer who debuted 15 years ago, had just finished a concert overseas and arrived here early yesterday.
He walked up to the group.
Chu Jiazhi was an old friend of his. He warmly clapped his hands and laughed, “Hongwen, have you been waiting long?”
Yu Hongwen smiled, “You guys not coming was really boring for me alone!”
He glanced at Min Wenyi and greeted, “Wenyi, long time no see.”
Min Wenyi nodded, “Over half a year, right?”
The three caught up, and Yu Hongwen’s eyes caught sight of someone—a familiar gaze that made him turn around.
He saw Yu Ran standing in the corner, looking excitedly at him.
Everyone knew that look very well.
Yu Ran’s face flushed bright red. Nervously, she said, “Mr. Yu Hongwen, I’m Min Wenyi’s assistant. I—I really like your songs! Could you please sign for me?”
Chu Jiazhi and Lu An both turned their faces toward Min Wenyi, whose usually calm expression had darkened greatly.
Yu Hongwen smiled happily, “You’re Min Wenyi’s assistant?”
Yu Ran nodded excitedly, “I saw your charity performance at the orphanage before. It was really amazing!”
“Oh, I’ve done charity work for so many years, but this is the first time I’ve met a fan on a show. Which orphanage are you from?”
“Lingshan Orphanage.”
“To have such a cute little girl… you’re as beautiful as a painting, I almost forgot! That’s just not fair~”
Meanwhile, Min Wenyi’s face was as dark as a pot bottom, looking like a bomb about to explode!
Lu An quickly stopped her, “Wenyi, Wenyi, don’t get worked up, we’re still filming!”
Chu Jiazhi, enjoying the drama, egged her on, “Looks like your assistant really likes Hongwen. Judging by her face, she’s been a fan for a long time. How come you didn’t know?”
“Wenyi, your assistant is just chatting with a star, don’t get upset.”
“If they end up spending a month together and feelings grow… Yu Hongwen is known as a heartbreaker. Yu Ran, don’t you go causing trouble here!”
“Ugh, you’re so annoying!”
“Ha~”
Just as Yu Ran got her autograph, Min Wenyi finally coldly turned to the two and said, “We all know we’re still filming, so why are you standing around here?”
Seeing everyone start moving forward, Yu Ran felt embarrassed to keep chatting with Yu Hongwen and walked with him.
Night had fallen, leaving only the streetlamps on either side of the road and the camera crew following in front and behind.
The guesthouse was a two-story bamboo building with a small open yard outside, though it was too dark to see clearly.
After everyone entered, the director had them sit on the sofa.
“Today is the first day. Get plenty of rest.”
The director looked around and said, “Since rooms are limited, tonight two people will share one room. Lu An is an Omega, so he can sleep with his cat assistant. The rest will each share a room with their own assistants. Tomorrow, we’ll officially start.”
With that, everyone picked up their luggage and headed upstairs, while the camera crew set up for the live stream. Although they rested, the broadcast continued.
After everyone left, only Min Wenyi and Yu Ran remained sitting.
Yu Ran looked at her palms, feeling an unusual headache.
Everyone is staying with their own assistants?
Does that mean she’s going to share a room with Min Wenyi in front of everyone?
Huh?????????
