Are You Trying to Mark Me? (GL, ABO) - Chapter 39
“Then whose scent is this pheromone?”
Chu Jiazhi looked down at the person in front of him, making Lu An instantly feel a chill run down his spine.
Facing the Alpha in front of him, Lu An thought about how the little assistant had been cooking for him for so long. He figured the least he could do was help cover for her. So, he quickly raised his head and said, “It’s mine!”
Chu Jiazhi gave him a puzzled look. “Your file says your pheromone smells like cherry blossoms. How come it smells like milk now?”
Lu An froze for a moment. His face flushed as he said, “Why are you snooping around checking other people’s pheromones? Are you some kind of pervert?”
Chu Jiazhi: “…”
Ha—he, the reigning “Most Wanted Husband of the Year,” was being called a pervert by an Omega?
He couldn’t help but find that pretty amusing.
Staring at Lu An, Chu Jiazhi placed a hand on his shoulder and asked, “Tell me—are there any other Omegas around Min Wenyi’s side?”
Lu An shook his head. “Nope. Just me.”
Just as the two were locked in a mutual glare, Min Wenyi’s door slowly opened.
Standing at the door, Min Wenyi looked at the two of them with a frown. “What are you two doing out here?”
Chu Jiazhi let go of Lu An and smiled. “Nothing. The director asked me to come upstairs and get you guys—he wants to discuss the next episode.”
“I see.” Min Wenyi stepped out. “Yu Ran’s not feeling well and is still sleeping. Let’s go downstairs first.”
“Okay.”
Chu Jiazhi didn’t hesitate. After giving a quick glance at the door Min Wenyi had just shut, he followed her down.
Lu An let out a quiet sigh of relief and quickly followed behind them.
Meanwhile—
Still in the room, Yu Ran looked like she’d been pulled out of water—her whole body damp as she curled up in the covers, sleeping deeply. The bite mark on the back of her neck stood out starkly against her pale skin.
It wasn’t until nightfall that Yu Ran finally opened her eyes.
The feverish heat had passed, but her mouth was painfully dry.
“Water…”
Hearing her murmur, Min Wenyi put down her phone and brought over a glass of water.
Yu Ran was still half-asleep and barely able to move. Min Wenyi sighed softly, then gently lifted her waist and brought the glass to her parched lips.
People naturally open their mouths when they’re thirsty. Watching Yu Ran’s soft pink tongue brush against the rim of the glass, Min Wenyi suddenly felt her own throat go dry.
Yu Ran finished the whole glass in one go before finally regaining a bit of strength.
When she realized she was still leaning in Min Wenyi’s arms, she froze.
What had happened?
Why was it already dark?
Did something unspeakable happen today?
All at once, memories from earlier in the day flooded back. Her neck throbbed faintly where she’d been bitten.
“I…” Yu Ran’s face went pale. She quickly asked, “Did I… today…?”
“Yeah.”
Min Wenyi took the glass from her hands and said calmly, “You went into heat. I gave you a temporary mark.”
Yu Ran’s face turned red instantly. She stammered, “I-I’m sorry…”
“It’s not your fault. Why are you apologizing to me?”
“But still…”
Seeing how nervous she looked, Min Wenyi gently brushed aside Yu Ran’s still-damp hair and looked at the mark she’d left on her neck. “If anyone should apologize, it’s me. I did it without asking.”
Even though a temporary mark wouldn’t have any serious side effects, Yu Ran was still an Omega—and one day, she’d have her own Alpha. Her partner would definitely mind something like this.
Thinking about it made Min Wenyi feel a little bitter.
She had no idea who Yu Ran’s Alpha was, but clearly, they were awfully good at keeping calm.
Just imagining some irresponsible Alpha leaving their Omega out like this made Min Wenyi upset.
Yu Ran’s face was burning as she stared at Min Wenyi, not knowing what to say. She could only lower her head.
“Get some rest,” Min Wenyi said as she gently rubbed Yu Ran’s cheek. “I’ll sleep on the couch tonight.”
“…Okay.”
Right before going to bed, Min Wenyi seemed to remember something. She looked over at Yu Ran and said, “There’s something else I should tell you.”
Yu Ran hugged her pillow, her face still flushed. “Yeah?”
“Lu An… already knows about what happened.”
“…”
“But don’t worry—I told him to keep it a secret.”
“…”
Yu Ran suddenly felt like she’d just stumbled into a whole new level of crisis.
The next day, the director’s team made a new announcement.
Since they had already filmed two episodes and the original setup was starting to get boring, they were suggesting a group reshuffle.
Everyone stared at the director, completely confused.
The director raised a megaphone and explained to everyone, “We’re drawing lots—four guests and four assistants. Whoever draws the same number will be paired together.”
Chu Jiazhi raised her hand and asked, “What about the cat?”
At that moment, Guazi was lazily sprawled out on the sofa, letting out a big yawn.
“Oh, right,” the director smacked his forehead. “I forgot about the cat.”
After a bit of discussion, they finally decided—the cat wouldn’t take part in the draw. Whoever drew number four would be paired with it.
Yu Ran had been hiding behind Min Wenyi i the whole time, looking like she wanted to bury her face in her clothes. That was because she could feel a sharp gaze constantly fixed on her back.
Min Wenyi felt a bit happy having Yu Ran cling to her. She comforted her, “It’s okay, we’ve all gotten to know each other over the past few days. Don’t be scared.”
Yu Ran was screaming inside. She wasn’t scared!!!
She felt like her innocence was in danger!!!!
She snuck a glance behind her, then quickly buried her face into Min Wenyi’s back and clung to her tightly—because Lu An was sitting on the sofa, staring at her with an expression that screamed “I know your secret.”
The crew brought over a box for the draw, and everyone took a turn grabbing a slip of paper.
Min Wenyi didn’t really want to be separated from Yu Ran, but it was part of the game, so she reluctantly pulled out a slip. It said “One.”
“You’re guest number one,” the director said. “Who’s assistant number one?”
Chu Jiazhi’s assistant, Qiu Yang, slowly raised his hand and smiled at Min Wenyi. “It’s me, Wenyi-jie.”
Min Wenyi recognized him. He was a Beta with a low presence—not particularly outstanding among Chu Jiazhi’s many assistants and managers. But he was efficient and didn’t talk much, which is why he was often brought along.
At least in Chu Jiazhi’s eyes, a quiet assistant definitely had their merits.
Min Wenyi nodded as a greeting.
Next up was Lu An. He glanced at Yu Ran, who was still trying to hide, and called out loudly, “Hey, little assistant, what number did you get?”
He had seen that she had a slip too. “I hope I get to be in your group.”
Yu Ran quickly hid her paper, which had a big number “Three” on it, and didn’t say a word.
Lu An rolled up his sleeves, rummaged through the box, pulled out a paper, opened it, and turned to shake it at her.
A big fat “Three” was written on it!!!!
Yu Ran’s eyes went wide—she felt like there was no escaping her fate!
Hahahahahahahahaha
The assistant’s reaction is adorable
Wow, her eyes are so big—they’re even cuter when she’s shocked!
Why split up the original pairs? I liked watching Min Wenyi and her assistant together
I think Yu Ran and Lu An are a fun combo too. He’s like a kid—someone needs to keep him in check
Next, number “Two” went to Yu Hongwen and his assistant. After ten years of working together, fate clearly wasn’t going to split them up.
As for Chu Jiazhi…
He looked at his slip—number “Four”—then at the lazy cat on the sofa, and suddenly felt a headache coming on.
Hahaha, the male idol and the cat?
Great combo, 100 thumbs up to the crew!
Is this the start of our idol-cat pairing? Move aside—I need a photo with that orange cat!
While the livestream chat was having a blast, Chu Jiazhi looked completely stressed out. He raised his head and asked the director, “So what’s today’s task?”
“It’s simple,” the director replied. “A customer placed an order this morning. Your job is to prepare the items and deliver them.”
Yu Hongwen understood right away. “So… like food delivery?”
“You could put it that way.”
Min Wenyi nodded. She had delivered food before on other shows, so she didn’t mind. It was all for the entertainment factor anyway.
“So where do we have to deliver to?”
“Each team has a different location. Let me check.”
In the end:
Yu Hongwen’s team was going to a kindergarten to deliver cookies to the kids.
Chu Jiazhi and Guazi the cat were going to a temple to deliver porridge to visitors.
Min Wenyi’s team would head to a mall to bring milk tea to store staff.
Lu An’s team had to deliver food… to haunted house employees at an amusement park.
Wait, haunted house????
Yu Ran stared at her mission card and the location written on it and suddenly felt a chill run down her spine!
Min Wenyi walked over, noticed Yu Ran’s pale face and the card in her hand, and frowned. She whispered, “Why don’t we talk to the director and switch teams? You can come with me.”
Yu Ran gave a strained smile and said, “It’s okay. It’s just a haunted house. We’ll just wait at the door and hand over the food.”
“Nope,” a staff member told her. “Look at the card. It clearly says you must hand the food directly to the haunted house employees.”
Min Wenyi turned back, clearly frustrated. “That’s not really necessary. Yu Ran’s not good with this sort of thing. Can’t Lu An go in and deliver it instead?”
Lu An: “?”
“But this is part of the challenge, Ms. Min Wenyi. It’s required for this episode—we’re in a tough spot too.”
“It’s fine.” Yu Ran gently tugged on Min Wenyi’s sleeve and looked up to reassure her. “It’s all fake anyway. I’ll go with Lu An and finish the task as fast as we can. You be careful too.”
After all, the mall would be crowded, and Min Wenyi was a big celebrity. Yu Ran couldn’t help but worry that something might happen.
Seeing the concern in her assistant’s eyes, Min Wenyi’s heart softened. She pressed her lips together and nodded. “I will.”
