Are You Trying to Mark Me? (GL, ABO) - Chapter 4
“Go buy each of us a drink, and when you come back, I’ll tell you a little secret about Min Wenyi.”
The woman with short red hair traced her jawline with delicate nails and gave Yu Ran a look that said, “You know what I mean.”
Yu Ran stayed put, looking around confused. “Are you… bullying me?”
Suddenly, the whole small rest area fell completely silent.
“B-bullying?” The woman who spoke got red in the face and stood up angrily. “Asking you to buy two bottles of water is bullying? Then you really are easy to bully!”
Yu Ran looked at her blankly. Back at the orphanage, new kids were often ordered by older ones to do chores—and if they refused, they’d get hit and yelled at.
Although that never happened to Yu Ran herself, it happened around her, so she couldn’t just ignore it.
“What’s all the noise for?”
At that moment, someone sitting in the corner looked up. If it weren’t for the pleated skirt she wore, Yu Ran might have thought she was a boy.
“Bullying is bullying. Don’t deny it after you’ve been caught.” The girl put her hands in her hoodie pockets and gave the others a cold glance. “It’s because of trash like you that our industry gets so much bad reputation.”
The atmosphere suddenly grew tense. Yu Ran quickly said, “Don’t fight. I’ll buy you some drinks. What do you want?”
The red-haired woman gave Yu Ran a glare but said nothing, then turned and left the break room.
Everyone looked at each other awkwardly.
“I want a can of coffee,” said the short-haired girl. “Only the Zero Nest brand, don’t buy the wrong one.”
Yu Ran nodded, asked a few more people, then turned and left.
When Min Wenyi saw Yu Ran coming into the small actors’ rest room carrying a big bag of drinks, she immediately dropped the male lead she was acting with and walked over.
She lifted the curtain and saw Yu Ran handing out drinks inside. Min Wenyi’s face instantly turned cold.
Bullying the newbie and even doing it to her?
Knock knock knock—
Min Wenyi tapped the door frame with her finger joints, her voice cold: “Yu Ran, come here.”
Yu Ran turned and saw Min Wenyi—wearing sportswear and a high ponytail, looking tall, spirited, and striking.
But why did her expression look so bad?
Yu Ran thought for a moment—probably just tired from filming! Yeah, that must be it!
She grabbed a bottle of soda from the table and jogged over. “Boss, you must be tired. Here, have some water…!!!”
Before she finished speaking, Min Wenyi grabbed her wrist.
“This is a temporary rest room. What are you doing here?” Min Wenyi said, “I have a special rest room. Wait for me there.”
She glanced at the people inside the room. “You’re my assistant, not someone who can go buy water whenever anyone tells you to, understand?”
Though she was looking at the people inside, she was clearly talking to Yu Ran.
Before Yu Ran could react, Min Wenyi pulled her out of the room, leaving everyone inside confused.
Min Wenyi’s rest room wasn’t far from the set, a quick turn led to a building, and the second room on the third floor was hers.
It wasn’t big, just over twenty square meters, with a chaise lounge for resting, a large, bright vanity table, and lots of clothes hanging nearby.
“Did you remember what I said?”
Min Wenyi looked at her assistant with a cold face.
Yu Ran thought for a moment, then laughed, “You mean the part about not buying water for just anyone?”
Min Wenyi: “…What else?”
Yu Ran looked up at her with a light smile. “Boss, do you think I’m being bullied?”
Min Wenyi: “…”
Yu Ran explained, “Someone did want me to buy water for her, but I refused. I don’t even know her, so why should I serve tea and water?”
And they didn’t even pay me.
Hearing this, Min Wenyi’s expression softened a bit.
“Good that you know.” She took the soda from Yu Ran’s hand, twisted open the cap, and took a sip. “Wait for me here. Without my permission, you can’t go anywhere.”
With that, she turned and left the rest room.
Yu Ran looked around Min Wenyi’s room and smiled softly, “This boss is actually pretty nice~”
From the second-floor window, Yu Ran could easily see the set.
She saw Min Wenyi’s character filming on the sports field. Yu Ran had no idea what they were shooting—there was a chaotic group of people wearing sportswear, but only Min Wenyi and the male lead wore different clothes.
The male lead seemed new and had messed up several times, the sports field scene was filmed more than ten times.
Yu Ran rested her chin on her hand, thinking how tough it must be to be an actor.
Not only do they have to deal with newcomers, but they also have to take care of their assistants.
It wasn’t until the afternoon sun was about to set that the scene was finally done.
Yu Ran went home with Min Wenyi, and on the way, they bought ingredients for dinner. They carefully picked some high-protein, low-calorie meat and vegetables, returning home fully loaded.
“Boss, will I be living here from now on?”
Yu Ran asked as she carried the groceries, walking quickly after Min Wenyi.
Min Wenyi wore a black sun hat, big sunglasses, and a loose trench coat that hid her figure, making her look like a criminal.
She softly replied, “Mm,” and entered the code at the door of their apartment building.
Yu Ran looked up casually and spotted a dark figure standing behind some trees not far away.
The person wore a black hat and black sunglasses, blending almost completely into the dark night.
“Hurry inside.”
Min Wenyi’s voice broke Yu Ran’s attention. She quickly rushed into the hallway, nervously glancing back again and again.
“Boss, I—I think I just saw someone in the flower bed.”
In the elevator, Yu Ran told Min Wenyi, “That person looked strange. I saw him yesterday too when I came here. He tried to get in but Sister Chen chased him away. That person is…”
“A sasaeng fan.”
Min Wenyi took off her mask and said casually, “This kind of thing happens all the time. Be careful around them. These people can do anything.”
Yu Ran was stunned. “Aren’t you scared?”
Having someone so dangerous lurking around Min Wenyi 24/7—doesn’t she worry?
Maybe sensing Yu Ran’s concern, Min Wenyi glanced at her and slowed her tone: “Don’t be scared. Their target is me. They won’t do anything to you.”
Well… saying that doesn’t really help much, does it???
Annoyed, Yu Ran followed Min Wenyi out of the elevator. “I’m not scared! I’m just worried about you!”
For the next few days, Yu Ran followed Min Wenyi to the set. She woke up early every day and was as busy as a spinning top. Even the things in her rented apartment were sent over by the agent.
Being a personal assistant wasn’t that busy, really. Other assistants handled work arrangements, and the manager came by every now and then to discuss things with Min Wenyi. So Yu Ran’s days were both dull and full.
“Today’s the last scene. Don’t slack off just because we’re almost done!” The director stood on a table, shouting through a megaphone at everyone below. “Tonight, at Thousand Island Park, we have the wrap-up party. Let’s fight hard for the last act!”
Yu Ran watched the director jump down from the table, feeling how hard everyone had worked over the past two weeks.
The final scene was by the fake lake in the studio city—a reunion moment between Min Wenyi and the male lead.
The shooting was quick with few lines and was soon finished.
Everyone cheered and took group photos, then boarded the bus to the booked venue.
“I’m not going,” Min Wenyi told the director. “You guys go ahead. I want to rest for a while.”
The director was a chubby middle-aged man. He whined like a spoiled kid, “It wouldn’t be good if the lead actress doesn’t come. Your name is on the banner and cake.”
“No need for all that next time. Everyone knows I don’t like attending celebration dinners or parties.”
“Really no way to change your mind?”
Seeing Min Wenyi was firm, the director said no more and left with the others.
Yu Ran asked, confused, “Boss, you don’t like wrap-up parties?”
Min Wenyi nodded, then looked at Yu Ran. “I don’t want salad today. Do you… know how to make hamburgers?”
Yu Ran was surprised. “Isn’t that high in calories?”
Min Wenyi pursed her lips and said, “I’m just asking if you can make them.”
A big star wanting to eat hamburgers—this contrast made Yu Ran curious but she didn’t refuse.
Yu Ran smiled broadly. “There’s nothing I can’t make!”
Bread, lettuce, mayonnaise.
Mushrooms, shrimp, hamburger patty.
Yu Ran bought lots of ingredients at the supermarket. She planned to make not only hamburgers but also fried chicken and fries.
It took over half an hour to pick everything out before Yu Ran left the store with the groceries.
“The food’s pretty fresh today. Boss, you…”
As soon as she got in the car, Yu Ran saw Min Wenyi leaning her head to the side, fast asleep in the passenger seat.
She must be really tired—didn’t even hear Yu Ran open or close the door.
Carefully, Yu Ran took a blanket from behind and covered Min Wenyi. Watching her sleeping face, she was a little lost in thought.
Min Wenyi was very beautiful.
Unlike the delicate Omegas, Min Wenyi had the unique aura of an Alpha—strong and with an irresistible presence.
She didn’t have the overly sharp features of Alpha male actors. Her face was firm but had a soft roundness to it.
Just like her—looking fierce on the outside, but once you get to know her, you realize she’s only wearing a tough mask.
A straight nose and thick eyelashes like silk tree flowers.
Yu Ran lifted her chin, smelling the car’s scent—there was a faint hint of rum.
A subtle scent, naturally emitted by Alphas without them realizing.
Yu Ran’s face flushed slightly. Was it because she hadn’t taken her suppressant on time today?
She bit her lip and was about to reach for her bag when her eyes met Min Wenyi’s, who had just opened hers.
“Ah, Boss, I…”
Before Yu Ran could finish, Min Wenyi reached out from under the blanket and quickly pushed her back into the seat.
They were very close, their chests pressed together.
The scent became stronger. Yu Ran felt her vision blur, only able to see Min Wenyi’s amber eyes.
Min Wenyi didn’t notice Yu Ran’s reaction and just turned her head to look outside.
She said quietly to Yu Ran, “Don’t speak. There’s someone outside.”
