Are You Trying to Mark Me? (GL, ABO) - Chapter 40
Yu Ran was standing with her head down, focused on chopping vegetables. Lu An, who was standing nearby looking like he owned the place, watched her with interest and said, “If you lower your head any further, you’ll fall face-first onto the cutting board.”
“Ah…”
Yu Ran didn’t look at him. She straightened up and said, “I think there was also an order for porridge. I’ll go get that ready.”
As she turned to leave, she heard Lu An speak behind her. “Hey, Assistant, why are you hiding the fact that you’re an O—”
Before he could finish saying “Omega,” Yu Ran grabbed him by the neck!
Lu An: “???!!!”
Yu Ran, face red, glared at him. “You’re not allowed to say it out loud!”
Lu An grabbed her hand, and the two of them started grappling like kids. The camera crew was right there filming, and they both completely ignored how ridiculous they looked.
Watching Yu Ran’s blushing face and how close the two were getting, Chu Jiazhi—who was casually snacking on sunflower seeds while waiting for his eight-treasure porridge—couldn’t help but question his life choices.
Did I ship the wrong couple again???
Still pondering this existential crisis, Chu Jiazhi looked over at Min Wenyi and noticed she was watching Lu An and Yu Ran with a dark expression and a hostile gaze.
Chu Jiazhi frowned.
What kind of weird love triangle is this?
Even with all the bickering, Lu An didn’t spill the secret in the end. Yu Ran still felt uneasy, like she was walking on pins and needles. Once she finished preparing the lunch order, she grabbed the food box and got ready to head out.
The two of them hopped on the small scooter provided by the show. Lu An drove while Yu Ran sat behind him, hugging the lunch box she’d just prepared as they set off for the amusement park.
The park wasn’t too far from the guesthouse. After about twenty minutes on the scooter, they arrived at the entrance. Once they explained their purpose to the ticket checker, they were let in.
Since it wasn’t the weekend, the amusement park wasn’t too crowded. And since Lu An wasn’t exactly a major celebrity, they didn’t draw too much attention.
After wandering around for a bit and following the map, they finally found the haunted house.
Standing at the entrance, Yu Ran looked at the spooky, dimly lit doorway and felt a chill run down her spine.
“Lu An, y-you go in first,” she said, trying to back out.
Lu An turned to her, his face equally tense. “I’m just a delicate little Omega—how could I possibly go in first?”
You’re an Omega? Like I’m not?!
Yu Ran snapped, “Well I’m scared too!”
Lu An frowned. “Same here!”
They started bickering again, right in front of the camera crew.

These two are really like besties—always arguing but super close!
LOL I just came back from Min Wenyi’s stream—she’s killing it with the food delivery segment!
She kept saying, ‘Gotta finish this delivery fast so I can go pick up my little assistant’
Ultimate group favorite treatment!
That assistant is so cute—of course everyone dotes on her!
Realizing that the food was getting cold and there were only about ten minutes left, Yu Ran sighed and said to Lu An, “How about we go in together?”
Lu An thought for a second and nodded. The mission was more important, after all.
Carrying the lunch box, Yu Ran took the lead and stepped into the haunted house. It was pitch black inside. She had to feel her way along the wall just to get used to the dark.
The setting seemed to be an abandoned school. They started out in a hallway lined with empty classrooms.
There was only one path, and the cold air blowing from above made the back of Yu Ran’s neck feel icy.
Lu An clung tightly to her shirt and whispered, “Hey… do you see that? Is that a person over there?”
Yu Ran turned her head, and bam—a mannequin suddenly toppled over with a loud crash, making her jump out of her skin!
“Aaaahhhh—!”
Before she could react, Lu An turned around and bolted!
The cameraman wasn’t scared by the mannequin but was startled by Lu An’s scream and quickly followed him out.
Yu Ran stood there, completely stunned, left alone with another cameraman.
“Um…”
She pointed at the lunch box in her hands and asked, “So… if the guest just ran off, does that mean the mission failed?”
The cameraman held back a laugh and shook his head. “Nope. As long as the delivery gets to the customer, the mission’s considered complete. It doesn’t matter who delivers it.”
In other words, even though Lu An ran away, the mission still had to be completed.
Yu Ran looked miserable as she turned around, forcing herself to keep going deeper into the haunted house…
Meanwhile…
Things were much livelier on Min Wenyi’s end.
It wasn’t even the weekend, but a crowd had gathered at the mall.
Because of the shoot, she wasn’t allowed to wear a mask, so Min Wenyi had no choice but to let people stand three meters away and snap endless photos while she sighed deeply.
“The order only lists this mall but doesn’t say which floor or which store,” Qiu Yang said, looking at the receipt in his hand. “How are we supposed to make this delivery?”
Min Wenyi rolled her eyes. Obviously, this was another trap set up by the production team. She knew it wouldn’t be that easy.
“Let me take a look.” She took the receipt from him and said, “Did you try calling the phone number on here?”
“Tried. No one answered.”
“Ugh.”
Seeing more and more people gathering around, Min Wenyi looked a little helpless. She carefully read the note on the order:
“Lunchtime is usually busy. If you can’t reach me by phone, please leave the drink on the counter by the shop entrance.”
Busy during lunch?
Min Wenyi tilted her head, thinking it over. Then she asked Qiu Yang, “Look, this person says they’re busy at lunchtime. Where’s the busiest place during lunch?”
Qiu Yang thought for a moment and said, “The food court on the third floor.”
Detective Min is on the case!
How did she figure that out? That’s amazing!
Seriously though, not writing a clear delivery address in a big mall like this is pretty inconsiderate.
That’s why I always double-check mine before placing an order.
Big respect to the delivery folks!
With a clearer idea of where to go, Min Wenyi and Qiu Yang split up to check each shop one by one, asking if anyone had ordered milk tea.
Qiu Yang had it relatively easy. As a low-profile assistant, he didn’t attract much attention and usually got answers quickly. But for Min Wenyi, the moment she stepped into a restaurant, the staff or customers would start asking her for autographs.
Even when she explained she was filming a show, it didn’t do much to stop the enthusiastic fans. By the time the two of them finally found the person who placed the order, Min Wenyi was already exhausted, her back aching.
“I’m so sorry,” the server who ordered the drink said with an apologetic smile. “I should’ve written the address more clearly.”
“It’s okay,” Min Wenyi replied with a shake of her head. “Enjoy your drink.”
Then she turned and headed downstairs.
As she walked, she looked down at her clothes and said to Qiu Yang, “So, we’re done with the task, right? Does that mean we can move around freely now?”
Qiu Yang glanced at a staff member nearby and instinctively slipped back into assistant mode.
After getting confirmation, Min Wenyi nodded and said, “I’m going to buy a new outfit. You guys can go back first.”
She bought a fresh set of clothes from the mall and had the sales assistant send the ones she had been wearing back to the guesthouse. Then she put on a mask and a hat and quietly made her way out.
Now, she was going to check on Yu Ran.
From the moment she heard Yu Ran had to go into the haunted house, Min Wenyi had felt uneasy. She tried calling the little assistant, but no one picked up.
What if she fainted from fear?
That thought made her even more anxious. She called a cab and headed straight for the amusement park.
Meanwhile, inside the haunted house, Yu Ran was stumbling through the darkness and finally found the staff member lying in a coffin. His head was wrapped in bandages, with fake bl00d covering half of it—but he still nodded politely to thank her.
Yu Ran had been on the verge of tears the whole way. If not for the camera guy following her, she would’ve bolted a long time ago.
“Here’s your food. Enjoy.”
Since the haunted house only had one path, she had to walk all the way back to exit.
After another five minutes or so, Yu Ran finally saw the heavy blackout curtain and let out a huge sigh of relief.
Just as she rushed forward in excitement, she ran straight into someone’s chest.
It was soft… and smelled really familiar.
Min Wenyi instantly realized who had bumped into her and quickly reached out to steady the girl.
The haunted house had the same entrance and exit, so Yu Ran was confused. She stared blankly at Min Wenyi and asked, “Why are you here?”
Wasn’t she supposed to be delivering milk tea?
Why did she come to the haunted house?
Before Yu Ran could make sense of it, Min Wenyi reached out her hand.
Yu Ran suddenly remembered the way Min Wenyi had looked at her that night when she wasn’t fully conscious—worried, frowning, and so gentle.
Her heart started racing wildly. Her ears flushed red.
She couldn’t deny it—in that moment she saw Min Wenyi, she had felt a joy so intense it was almost overwhelming.
She was so, so happy.
Min Wenyi looked down at Yu Ran’s dazed little expression and gently placed her hand on her head.
Then…
She pinched off a fake spider.
Yu Ran: “!!!”
Seeing her suck in a breath with a frightened look, Min Wenyi found it absolutely adorable. She signaled to the cameraman and said, “Can I talk to my assistant for a bit?”
The cameraman nodded and walked out with the camera.
Yu Ran stared after him, confused. “Why’d you tell him to leave? Aren’t we still filming?”
“We finished the task already,” Min Wenyi said with a smile. “Now it’s break time.”
She held tightly onto Yu Ran’s hand, pulled a handful of candy from her pocket, and stuffed it into Yu Ran’s palm.
“These are from the clothing store,” she explained. “I figured you might be scared after coming out, so I stole them just for you.”
