Are You Trying to Mark Me? (GL, ABO) - Chapter 44
Sometimes, time just flies by.
Since Yu Ran and Min Wenyi arrived at this guesthouse, nine episodes of the show have already been filmed.
The show was originally planned to have ten episodes, so the production team had been thinking hard about how to wrap up the first season of Me and My Assistant on a high note.
And if you counted the days, it had already been nearly half a month since Lu An left with the suppressant.
Yu Ran checked the delivery tracking almost every day, but all she saw was that the package was slowly moving province by province like a turtle, still stuck somewhere in the north. It frustrated her to the point where she really wanted to file a complaint.
Since filming was nearly done, everyone except the editors was pretty relaxed. They were sitting around the heater in the living room, warming themselves by the fire.
The TV was a bit noisy—it was showing the third episode of My Assistant.
Most people didn’t like watching themselves on camera, so after glancing at it and feeling a little awkward, they quickly switched to something else.
Suddenly, Yu Hongwen suggested, “Isn’t Lu An’s group performing today? Why don’t we watch that?”
Chu Jiazhi, peeling an orange, chimed in, “Sure, let’s watch. Not like we’ve got anything else to do.”
At that moment, Yu Ran was still busy in the kitchen.
“What are you making?”
Min Wenyi leaned against the doorway. The weather was chilly today, so she wore a loose ash-gray sweater. Her long, shiny black hair flowed down her back, making her look extra tall and fair-skinned.
Yu Ran glanced back and smiled. “It’s New Year’s Day, so I thought I’d cook something special.”
Min Wenyi looked at the chopped ingredients on the side—some were store-bought, others were fresh from the small garden outside the guesthouse. There was a dozen different kinds. Curious, she asked, “So, what’s on the menu?”
“I asked the logistics guys to grab some meat rolls from the supermarket,” Yu Ran explained. “Since Mr. Yu isn’t originally from the mainland, he might not be used to dumplings and such. I figured hotpot would be more to his taste.”
Min Wenyi smiled as she watched the young assistant chopping veggies with practiced ease. “Hongwen’s been in the mainland for ten years now. He’s definitely used to it by now. No need to cater to his tastes.”
“Oh really? I had no idea…”
“But I actually feel like eating dumplings. Is there any filling left in the fridge?”
Yu Ran opened the fridge and looked inside. “Hmm… not quite enough.”
Besides the main cast, there were over a dozen crew members. Since no one could go home before the Spring Festival, everyone was spending New Year’s together here.
Min Wenyi came over to take a look too. There was only a small bowl of filling—not really enough for everyone.
“Then let’s stick with hotpot,” she said, rolling up her sleeves. “Need any help?”
“It’s okay, you can go back out. Qiu Yang and the others will be here soon to help.”
Min Wenyi looked at Yu Ran in her apron and chuckled. “The way you’re acting, it’s like you don’t want me in the kitchen.”
Yu Ran quickly said, “No, no! Not at all.”
Min Wenyi tilted her head and asked, “How many days has it been?”
Yu Ran paused for a second, blushed slightly, and replied, “Th-third day.”
“Since we’re not filming tonight, let’s go upstairs after dinner.”
“Mm…”
Min Wenyi reached out and gently pinched Yu Ran’s cheek, smiling. “Come on, I’ll help you wash the veggies.”
“…Alright. Just don’t mess with anything else—when you’re in the kitchen, you have to follow my lead.”
She didn’t want another disaster like last time when they almost burned the pot.
“While everyone’s eating hotpot, I’ll make you a bowl of dumplings.”
“In secret?”
“Mm-hmm. Secretly!”
The two of them busying around in the kitchen didn’t go unnoticed by the others in the living room.
“Are they really just assistant and boss?” someone joked.
Yu Hongwen, munching on an orange, said to his old friend, “Wasn’t Wenyi supposed to have a matched Omega partner? Is this really okay?”
Chu Jiazhi shrugged. He had no idea either.
Dinner that night was hotpot. They divided into three groups and sat around in the living room watching Lu An’s group open the show with a dance performance.
Maybe it was because of the recent episodes of the show boosting his popularity, but Lu An, who was originally meant to be off to the side, was now center stage. Even someone like Yu Ran, who didn’t know much about the entertainment world, could tell something had changed.
Luckily, Lu An looked confident and composed on camera.
Everyone silently kept their thoughts to themselves. In showbiz, fortunes can change in a flash—someone you looked down on today might be a rising star tomorrow.
After dinner, the director gathered everyone to announce the final episode’s content.
“Let’s organize a charity concert,” the director said, unshaven and scruffy. “We’re planning to have a surprise guest, but we haven’t decided who yet. Depends on who’s available.”
Everyone nodded in agreement. After all, they were all celebrities, and a charity concert wasn’t a big deal—especially with Yu Hongwen, a famous singer from both sides of the Strait, involved. It was bound to be more than just an ordinary performance.
“If everyone’s on board, start promoting it on Weibo and the fan groups. Let’s get the word out. The venue’s basically confirmed. For assistants without work-related accounts, register and get verified today. Promotion starts tomorrow.”
With that, the group dispersed and went back to their rooms.
Yu Ran followed Min Wenyi upstairs and sat by her bed, looking puzzled as she stared at her phone. She asked, “What’s a work Weibo account?”
Min Wenyi glanced at her and explained, “It’s just a Weibo account for work stuff.”
Yu Ran frowned. “But I don’t even have a Weibo account. What do I do?”
“That’s easy. Just sign up. Later, send your info to Yi Qiao, and she’ll help you get it verified.”
“Oh, I think I get it now.”
Watching Yu Ran hold her phone so seriously, Min Wenyi thought for a moment and said, “Yu Ran, let’s do the marking first.”
Yu Ran nodded, set her phone aside, and took off her jacket.
As the young assistant lifted her long hair, revealing her fair and slender neck, Min Wenyi couldn’t help but swallow instinctively.
No, no. This is official work. She couldn’t let her mind wander to… indecent thoughts.
Min Wenyi pressed her lips together, reached out to gently lift Yu Ran’s face, and buried her head into the crook of her neck, filled with the scent of milk pheromones.
For the past two weeks, they had been doing temporary markings every three days. Yu Ran had gotten used to the pain, but she still instinctively clenched Min Wenyi’s clothes when she was bitten.
After about five minutes, Min Wenyi finally let go of Yu Ran’s waist. She licked her lips and looked at the assistant, who was breathing heavily.
“Still hurt?” she asked softly.
Surely her technique had gotten better—after all, she’d done it so many times.
Yu Ran, cheeks slightly red, shook her head. “It doesn’t hurt anymore. Thank you…”
Min Wenyi gently rubbed her forehead against Yu Ran’s and said, “Get some rest. I’m going to take a shower.”
“Okay~”
Even though she really wanted to give Yu Ran a kiss after the marking, Min Wenyi held herself back. She didn’t want to risk being accused of sexual harassment.
Yu Ran, still feeling weak and tingly, lay in bed wide awake. Since she couldn’t sleep, she just played with her phone.
She had helped Min Wenyi set up a Weibo account before, but she never actually used the app herself. After downloading it, she scrolled through half-asleep, checking out the latest posts.
When she opened Min Wenyi’s profile, she saw that she was still quiet and reserved. Aside from promotional content, she rarely posted anything personal.
There was a photo of the two of them that now looked especially warm and sweet.
Feeling curious, Yu Ran searched for Lu An’s name. He was listed as a member of a boy group, and his profile was filled with commercials too.
She hesitated, then changed her search to Lu An.
Instantly, her screen was flooded with posts about this “big-name” user.
Apparently, Lu An had posted a video an hour ago.
A video???
Yu Ran perked up, tapped to watch it, and immediately got chills all over.
No wonder—the title of the video was:
“Min Wenyi Disco”!
The one-minute clip was a remix where Min Wenyi kept calling out Yu Ran’s name, with different times, places, and backgrounds edited together into a hilariously cursed remix song.
That little devil!!!
Haha! Lu An just unlocked a new skill?!
Why wasn’t Lu An at the comic con last time? I couldn’t get a copy of her new story 😭
Actually, she was at the comic con but suddenly left midway.
I saw her there! Mask, scarf, hat, sunglasses—completely covered up for some reason.
OMG this video is killing me. When’s the new story coming out? Hurry up and update!!!
More of the romance fic please!!!
More assistant x Min Wenyi CP content now!!
Yu Ran shot up from bed, furious, as laughter filled the comment section. The echo of Min Wenyi’s auto-tuned voice still rang in her ears:
“Yu Ran—Yu Ran—Yu-Yu-Yu-Yu-Yu Ran—!!!”
She opened WeChat and sent a message:
Yu Ran: Lu An, get out here right now!
Lu An: ?
Yu Ran: What’s with that video? Aren’t you busy filming? How do you even have time to edit videos?! If you’re that good, why not become a full-time post-production editor?!
Lu An: I’ve always had these skills.
Lu An: Do you like it? I’ve also got a “Yu Ran Disco” version ready. Planning to release it next Wednesday at 7:20 PM.
Yu Ran: Can you act like a normal person for once?!
Lu An: Nyeh nyeh nyeh~
Yu Ran glared at the cheeky emoji on her screen, so mad she wanted to smash her phone to pieces—as if it was Lu An.
Buzz—
Lu An: Is Wenyi-jie asleep?
Lu An: You should show her. I bet she’ll love it.
Yu Ran looked toward the bathroom, where Min Wenyi was still showering, then stared at her phone.
Through gritted teeth, she said with deep emotion:
“Screw you!”
