Are You Trying to Mark Me? (GL, ABO) - Chapter 5
In the open space in front of the car, Yu Ran looked over Min Wenyi’s shoulder and saw the man in the black coat and hat she’d met before.
He must have seen Min Wenyi’s car because he didn’t hesitate at all and started walking over.
As the man got closer, Yu Ran felt like she could barely breathe.
The smell of rum on Min Wenyi’s body grew stronger, making Yu Ran’s head spin in waves. Her heart was pounding so hard she thought it might burst.
Omega are always very sensitive to the scent of Alpha pheromones, which can even trigger uncontrollable feelings.
That’s why, in many cases involving the protection of Omegas, there’s always controversy about whether someone is truly an Alpha or not.
In the end, no one can be sure if the Omega who’s been hurt was forced or not.
Yu Ran hated this.
She hated Omegas who lost themselves.
Breathing in the unique scent that belonged to Min Wenyi, Yu Ran felt that compared to the man outside, this woman was the most dangerous presence…
The man walked up to the car and ran his hand over the Ferrari’s hood, his eyes full of obsession. It made Min Wenyi’s mood turn sour.
If it weren’t for the bad impression it would cause, Min Wenyi really wanted to teach these disgusting scumbags a lesson.
“He’s out there…”
Yu Ran’s voice was low and trembling. Min Wenyi glanced down at her and felt that Yu Ran was unusually soft today.
What’s going on?
She caught a faint milk-like scent again at the tip of her nose, but it vanished in an instant.
Min Wenyi felt a headache coming on — she was probably just too tired lately, imagining strange smells.
Meanwhile, the man was still touching the car door and handle, almost about to open it!
Yu Ran was extremely nervous. She grabbed Min Wenyi’s clothes tightly and tried her best to control her breathing.
Thinking Yu Ran was scared, Min Wenyi wrapped an arm around her waist and whispered in her ear, “Don’t worry, he can’t see us.”
The car was bulletproof and privacy-proof, so Min Wenyi wasn’t worried the man would notice anyone inside. Besides, she had already locked the doors — no way he could open them.
Sure enough, the man tried the handle, realized it wouldn’t open, glanced at the car twice more, then turned and left.
Min Wenyi didn’t loosen her hold on Yu Ran as the man walked away. Instead, she gently rubbed Yu Ran’s trembling back and asked, “Are you really scared?”
Yu Ran was breathing hard but didn’t answer.
She must’ve been truly frightened because the more Min Wenyi touched her, the more she trembled.
“Don’t be afraid, he’s gone now.”
At those words, Yu Ran suddenly couldn’t hold back. She pushed Min Wenyi away, grabbed her bag, opened the door, and got out all in one go!
Min Wenyi sat there in the car, stunned and not understanding what had just happened.
Five minutes later, Yu Ran finally calmed down.
She sat by the roadside, staring at the medication in her hand—the suppressant pills. She had almost, just almost, lost control.
Covering her head with her hands, it took a few seconds before she could stand up.
But as soon as she stood, her vision blurred and the pill bottle slipped from her fingers, falling to the ground.
Clatter, clatter…
The slender glass bottle rolled slowly like a bowling ball until it stopped in front of a pair of brown-red women’s leather shoes.
Min Wenyi bent down and picked up the bottle.
“You were hiding just to take these?”
Yu Ran’s heart almost stopped when she saw the suppressant in Min Wenyi’s hand!
“I—I—I…”
She didn’t even know how to explain.
Min Wenyi stared at her and asked, “What kind of medicine is this? Why doesn’t it have any label?”
“It’s—It’s vitamins!” Yu Ran said anxiously. “The doctor said my body is weak and I should take more vitamins. I felt dizzy in the car just now, so I got out to take the medicine!”
Seeing Yu Ran’s troubled face, Min Wenyi thought for a moment and handed the bottle back.
“Next time if it happens, just take it inside the car,” Min Wenyi said calmly. “It’s not a big deal.”
If only you knew what’s really inside that bottle—you’d see it is a big deal!
Yu Ran took the bottle, unable to say how bitter she felt inside.
If it weren’t for how few jobs Omegas can do, she’d never want to switch to being a Beta!
She cried quietly in her heart.
After this incident, Min Wenyi became much more clear-headed. She didn’t let Yu Ran drive and took the car downstairs herself, letting Yu Ran go upstairs first.
Min Wenyi also lost interest in making Yu Ran cook, so she ordered takeout on Yu Ran’s phone and went upstairs.
By the time they ate the late dinner, it was already eleven at night.
“Nothing to do tomorrow, so just rest,” Min Wenyi said, standing on the stairs in a pure white silk dress. “If there’s something you want to handle, go ahead. You’ve been busy for the past two weeks.”
Yu Ran nodded, “What about you?”
“I’ll be home, not going anywhere.”
“Okay… got it.”
Yu Ran went back to her room, counted the money she had, and decided to go buy some inhibitors tomorrow. Since she’d been with Min Wenyi for a long time, her medicine was running low.
The next morning, Yu Ran slept in until after nine.
Because Min Wenyi had told her the night before not to disturb her, Yu Ran didn’t go upstairs to check. She just changed her clothes and shoes and headed out.
She wasn’t going anywhere else today; she took the bus to the research institute in the suburbs.
An hour later, Yu Ran arrived at the institute’s entrance.
“Hello, Uncle Guard.”
Yu Ran knocked on the security office window and called to the guard on duty opposite, “Have you seen my researcher?”
“Oh, Yu Ran,” the guard opened the door and smiled, “Why are you back so soon?”
“I came to pick up some things.”
“Go ahead, Zhuo Ran is waiting for you.”
Zhuo Ran was the researcher who first connected with Yu Ran. He was a Beta and one of her few good friends.
Wandering around the familiar training base, Yu Ran found Zhuo Ran in the greenhouse.
“I’m back!”
Yu Ran’s cute arrival made Zhuo Ran flinch and accidentally cut off a big leaf.
“Why do you have time to come back today?” Zhuo Ran asked as he packed up, “Having fun in the city?”
Yu Ran swung her legs sitting next to him, “It was okay. I’m almost out of medicine, so I came to buy some.”
Zhuo Ran looked at her and lightly tapped her head. “Is this institute a supermarket where you can just buy whatever you want?”
“You’ll sell it to me, right?”
“…Hmph.”
After getting about two months’ worth of medicine, Yu Ran carefully put it in her backpack and prepared to leave.
“Yu Ran.”
Zhuo Ran looked at her and paused before saying, “Your matched Alpha came looking for you after you left.”
Yu Ran was stunned. “Did she… give you trouble?”
Zhuo Ran shook his head. “She didn’t cause any problems. But, Yu Ran, the Alpha matched with you must be someone you like. Why don’t you want to spend time with her?”
“I’ve never even met her. Why should I?” Yu Ran shook her head. “I don’t want to be with someone I don’t know.”
“Yu Ran…”
Yu Ran looked up at him. “If she didn’t make things hard for you, I’ll thank her properly. If you have time, come visit my boss’s place. Her house is huge, and she’s nice!”
Seeing Yu Ran didn’t want to talk about it more, Zhuo Ran just smiled slightly and nodded.
It took more than an hour to get back to the apartment from the suburbs.
On the way, Yu Ran stopped by the market. She thought the vegetables bought yesterday at home probably hadn’t spoiled yet, so she bought some corn and pork ribs to cook soup and help Min Wenyi get some nutrition.
Back home, Yu Ran found the house still quiet.
“Boss?”
She peeked by the stairs and whispered, “Are you awake?”
No answer.
“No going upstairs without my permission.”
She remembered that on her first day here, Min Wenyi said this firmly. So for half a month, Yu Ran hadn’t gone upstairs.
After all, she planned to work hard and earn money to support herself.
Yu Ran cleaned the ribs and corn, steamed some rice, and changed the salad to mustard flavor today. She wasn’t sure if Min Wenyi would like it.
For dessert, she prepared cherry tomatoes—little bright red tomatoes that looked very cute.
Looking at the time, it was almost noon. Why hadn’t Min Wenyi gotten up yet?
Usually on filming days, Min Wenyi woke up without needing to be called. Why was there still no movement today?
Could something have happened?
Yu Ran thought of the news reports about some popular stars dying at home because no one took care of them. Their bodies were found five days later, already too rotten to enter the house.
She couldn’t wait any longer!
Putting down the plate, Yu Ran decided to go upstairs to check.
Her fuzzy slippers made no sound on the stairs.
She quietly went up and carefully looked around.
The second floor was less than half the size of the first, with one bedroom and a study.
It was called a study, but Min Wenyi didn’t seem to read there much. It was probably been turned into a walk-in closet.
The curtains upstairs were very thick, blocking most of the sunlight. Entering felt like stepping from daylight into darkness.
“Boss? Boss, are you still sleeping?”
Yu Ran whispered, looking at the wide double bed over two meters across. The blanket was pulled over the owner from head to toe, so she couldn’t see who was inside.
Standing by the bed, Yu Ran called Min Wenyi’s name twice more but got no response. She reached out and pulled back the covers—
What she saw froze her in place.
Fair white skin looked especially beautiful against the black velvet sheets.
Min Wenyi’s black hair blended almost seamlessly with the velvet, like a swan soaring in the night.
Feeling the coolness on her skin, Min Wenyi slowly opened her eyes. She saw her little assistant looking as if she had seen a ghost, clutching the blanket and stumbling at the bedside.
“What’s wrong?” Min Wenyi sat up and tossed her hair behind her. “Why are you so noisy so early?”
Yu Ran grabbed the blanket, tearful and helpless, and yelled, “You… why aren’t you wearing any clothes while you’re sleeping?!”
