Are You Trying to Mark Me? (GL, ABO) - Chapter 8
When Yu Ran woke up, she felt as if her entire body was tightly bound by something, as though some kind of demon or monster had wrapped itself around her.
She opened her eyes, and the first thing she saw was Min Wenyi’s smooth, snow-like skin.
Then, those long, thick eyelashes that resembled a blooming silk tree flower.
“!!!”
Why???
Why, of all things, would she wake up in Min Wenyi’s arms?!
Yu Ran shivered. She tried to move her body but hadn’t expected the owner of those “silk tree flower” eyelashes to slowly open her eyes as well.
“…”
“…”
Their eyes met, and Yu Ran felt like even breathing became difficult.
“G-Good morning…”
What was this “good morning” nonsense?! She couldn’t even speak properly anymore!
Min Wenyi blinked and stretched out her arms to pull Yu Ran closer into her embrace.
“Good morning.”
Feeling Min Wenyi’s warm body heat, Yu Ran could only feel the bl00d rushing straight to her head, making her cheeks burn.
And then, she remembered.
Last night, a man dressed in black had tried to break into their home. Fortunately, the police had taken him away in the end.
As for herself, she’d been so scared that she didn’t dare sleep alone.
But that didn’t mean she needed to be held all night long like this!!!
Blushing furiously, Yu Ran squeezed her eyes shut and stammered, “Boss, could you maybe not hold me so tightly…”
“Heh.” Min Wenyi, her eyes still closed, slid a hand around Yu Ran’s slender waist. “Last night, you were the one clinging to me, begging me not to leave.”
Yu Ran: “!!!”
Min Wenyi gently traced her hand along Yu Ran’s waistline and murmured softly near her ear, “Do you remember how you begged me last night?”
Yu Ran: “I didn’t!!!”
“You held onto my clothes, crying and pleading for me to stay. Now that you’ve woken up, you’re pretending it didn’t happen?”
“Boss, you’re making things up—”
Min Wenyi opened her eyes, her amber gaze locking onto Yu Ran’s. She smirked.
“Am I making things up?”
Yu Ran felt her mind buzzing. Yes, she had thrown herself into Min Wenyi’s arms last night, crying and begging her to stay.
But it absolutely wasn’t how Min Wenyi was making it sound!!!
“I didn’t! Please stop twisting the truth!” Yu Ran struggled to push away the octopus-like Min Wenyi and shouted with a red face, “Stay away from me!”
After finally freeing herself, Yu Ran quickly jumped out of bed.
Looking at Min Wenyi, who was now sitting up, Yu Ran nervously clutched the collar of her pajamas and said in a low voice, “I-I’m not that kind of person…”
Min Wenyi glanced at Yu Ran with amusement before replying, “No need to worry. I’m not that kind of person either. I just thought you were too scared last night and wanted to help you relax.”
“…”
Yu Ran stared at her for a moment before saying, “Thank you.”
Min Wenyi hummed in acknowledgment.
“Next time, I definitely won’t do this again.” Yu Ran encouraged herself. “Next time, I’ll protect you.”
Min Wenyi paused, turning to look at Yu Ran.
This girl, who was shorter than her, younger than her, and not particularly brave, had just said she wanted to protect her.
But somehow… it wasn’t annoying.
Min Wenyi brushed her long black hair over her shoulder and chuckled softly. “You’re the first person to ever say you’ll protect me.”
Yu Ran blinked. “Isn’t that my job?”
As her personal assistant, wasn’t it her responsibility to handle everything outside of work for Min Wenyi?
Min Wenyi walked over to Yu Ran and patted her on the head.
“If there’s a next time, I’ll leave it to you to protect me.”
“…Alright.”
As for how the situation with the stalker fan was handled, since no one had been harmed, the police only detained him for fifteen days without further action.
Min Wenyi later released the surveillance footage online, condemning the fan for invading her privacy and urging people to focus on her work instead of intruding into her personal life.
Many celebrities joined in to denounce the behavior of such fans. For three whole days, Min Wenyi’s name stayed on the trending list.
Yu Ran also noticed the statement from Lu An.
Though it was similar to what most celebrities were saying, it left her feeling a bit uneasy…
Maybe she was overthinking it.
Setting down her phone, Yu Ran glanced at Min Wenyi, who was calmly eating shumai, and couldn’t help but ask, “Boss, how much longer are we staying in this house?”
Min Wenyi, still reading the news, replied, “Why?”
Why?
Even after a stalker tried to break in, how could she still be so unbothered and keep eating?!
“Moving out, huh?” Yu Ran said to Min Wenyi. “This house is just a rental anyway. Let’s find a new place to live.”
Min Wenyi finished a plate of steamed dumplings, nodded, and said, “Sure.”
It was supposed to be a big deal, yet neither of them seemed to take it seriously. If Yu Ran hadn’t brought it up, Min Wenyi would have been content to stay here forever.
“I’ll look around in the next few days for suitable places,” Yu Ran said. “Boss, do you have any specific requirements for the new house?”
Min Wenyi thought for a moment and said, “Just like this one.”
Yu Ran: “…”
If you like this house so much, why not just rent a different floor?
She wanted to say it but held her tongue. After all, Min Wenyi was the boss. Suppressing her frustration, Yu Ran said, “I’ll ask the agency then…”
Min Wenyi nodded. “I’ll be staying home for now. If you find something good, just send me the details, and I’ll take a look too.”
Yu Ran nodded and added the task to her to-do list.
When Min Wenyi finished filming, she usually took a break for one to two months, during which she only accepted major endorsements or advertisements. Her next filming schedule was two months away, set for winter.
Yu Ran left the real estate agency with a list of potential homes and set out with the sales agent to view them.
First option: A lakeside villa.
Agent: “There’s an artificial lake right ahead. Perfect for cooling off in summer! It’s very quiet, with not many people around. The three-story design offers plenty of space—ideal for anything you want!”
Min Wenyi: “The rooms are too big, and I hate water. No.”
Yu Ran silently thought, Are you a cat or something? What’s wrong with water?
Second option: A luxury apartment.
Agent: “This three-bedroom unit is in the heart of the city. It has a master bedroom, guest room, and a spacious balcony. The neighborhood has 24-hour security patrols, and it’s super convenient with a market and school right across the street!”
Min Wenyi: “The place is too small, and there are too many people. No.”
Yu Ran sighed. You don’t even leave the house, so why does it matter if there are people outside?
Third option: A secluded courtyard house.
Agent: “This one’s quiet but still in the city center. It’s very convenient, and the alley has a nostalgic charm. Perfect for someone with a love of tradition.”
Min Wenyi: “A courtyard? I already have three. No.”
Yu Ran’s hand trembled slightly.
Fourth, fifth, sixth options…
For an entire week, Min Wenyi wasn’t satisfied with any of the houses.
“Maybe we should stop looking,” Min Wenyi finally said. “This house is great. I’m even thinking of buying it. Why don’t you ask the agency how much it would cost to buy this place?”
Yu Ran got up from the dining table, carrying her dishes, and left the room.
The assistant was mad.
Min Wenyi, chewing her food, pursed her lips. I’m the boss, so why am I so scared of her getting upset?
Before she could figure it out, Yu Ran went into her room and slammed the door shut.
Whoa, she’s really mad…
Later that night, Yu Ran couldn’t help but post on her social media:
Finding a house is so hard 😭😭😭
Almost instantly, her phone buzzed.
Tong Xinxin: “Looking for a house? What kind? I can give you some recommendations.”
Yu Ran’s eyes lit up.
That’s right! Tong Xinxin is also an assistant. She must know this city better than I do!
Yu Ran: “It’s for my boss. A few weeks ago, some crazy fans tried to break into her house, so I need to find her a safer place. But no matter what I pick, she’s never satisfied.”
Tong Xinxin: “Min Wenyi is famously attached to her homes. I heard that once she lives somewhere, she insists on buying it. Even her costumes from filming—she takes them all home. It’s no wonder you’re having a hard time.”
Yu Ran: “Wow, I didn’t know that.”
Tong Xinxin: “For celebrities, safety is the top priority. Are you free tomorrow? I know a few places that might work.”
Yu Ran: “You’re an angel! Thank you so much!”
After finalizing their meeting time, Yu Ran went to bed feeling relieved.
The next morning…
Yu Ran met Tong Xinxin at the agreed location, and they went to view a few properties. Well, technically, they were all units in the same complex. Tong Xinxin explained:
“This community has card-based entry, password-protected access to floors, elevator cards, and facial recognition for the apartment doors. Even if someone sneaks into the complex, they can’t access the elevators, and if they somehow do, they won’t get into the apartments. Plus, the police station is right across the street. Response time? Less than a minute.”
When Yu Ran saw one of the units, she was amazed.
The layout was almost identical to Min Wenyi’s current house!
High ceilings created a spacious loft area, with a separate guest room and study on the first floor. It even had the large balcony that Min Wenyi loved.
There was nothing to complain about.
After sending pictures to Min Wenyi, the boss replied with just two words:
“Looks good.”
Relieved, Yu Ran happily placed a deposit and planned the move for the next day. But as they were leaving, the neighbor’s door across the hall opened.
Yu Ran looked up and froze.
Lu An stood there in casual T-shirt and shorts, his eyes like calm water as he glanced at the two assistants. With a nasal hum of surprise, he said, “So the new neighbors are you, little assistant.”
