As a Scummy Omega, I Ran Away with the Baby - Chapter 10
Bai Qingqiu’s lips were thin, and now they brushed lightly against Gu Yining’s nose tip—like the fleeting touch of a butterfly’s wings, ethereal and impossible to catch.
Butterflies were light and free, never lingering on a single rose, for the world was filled with countless blossoms waiting to be touched.
Mingled with that delicate kiss was her familiar scent—ylang-ylang interwoven with the lush fragrance of roses. Smelling her own pheromone lingering on her partner instinctively calmed Gu Yining, filling her Alpha instincts with a sense of safety and dependence.
Before she had even processed the moment, the butterfly had fluttered again—this time alighting briefly upon her lips before pulling away without mercy.
Gu Yining’s fingers closed uselessly around the empty air.
“Still mad?”
Bai Qingqiu tilted her head and smiled, ruffling Gu Yining’s hair the way one might indulge a docile little pup—gentle, affectionate, and full of petting fondness.
As always.
“No, I’m not mad anymore. I won’t ever be mad again.”
Gu Yining put on a wide, exaggerated grin as she smoothed down the messy tufts of hair Bai Qingqiu had just mussed.
Never again.
Satisfied, Bai Qingqiu turned, picked up her phone, and stood. She didn’t forget to remind her:
“I’ll be home late tonight. There’s a major project at the company. You should also be careful at work later—this susceptibility period is no joke, and the side effects can’t be taken lightly.”
Gu Yining lowered her head obediently under her gaze, giving a soft “mm.” Afraid that her real thoughts might show, she summoned up the image of how she used to act in front of Bai Qingqiu.
She deliberately pitched her voice higher, wrapped her arms around Bai Qingqiu’s slender waist, and nuzzled her cheek against her.
“I knooow, just come back early.”
Bai Qingqiu, predictably pleased, pinched her cheek in satisfaction before leaving without the slightest suspicion.
She even tossed back a single word—
“Good girl.”
Only when Bai Qingqiu had completely vanished from sight did Gu Yining let her exaggerated smile drop. Her facial muscles ached from having held it so long.
Until she had irrefutable evidence, she wouldn’t tear off the mask with Bai Qingqiu. She would continue to play the obedient little canary before her.
As long as the canary behaved, the keeper would never think to check whether the cage door had been left unlocked. By the time the keeper realized, the golden canary would already have flown to long-awaited freedom.
Unaware, the keeper had no idea that her pet was secretly plotting a grand escape.

Gu Yining was just stepping into the nanny van when a WeChat notification popped up from Bei Nanyan.
[Bei Nanyan]: You’re serious????
[Ning]: Serious.
[Bei Nanyan]: Ningning, don’t joke about something like this.
[Bei Nanyan]: gasping-for-air.jpg
She was referring to the fact that Gu Yining’s contract with Bai Qingqiu’s company was about to expire. Lately, the two of them had been chatting often, and in the midst of it, Bei Nanyan had mentioned that she was a manager at one of the “Big Three.”
The Big Three—known archrivals of Bai Qingqiu’s company. Almost every move one side made was met with countermoves from the other.
Could fate be any more ironic?
Gu Yining wouldn’t be staying with Bai Qingqiu’s company anyway. If Bai Qingqiu ever found out that her obedient, sweet little canary had flown straight into the hands of her bitter rival… what kind of expression would she make?
The thought alone made the plan feel flawless.
Of course, that depended on whether Bei Nanyan really had the authority to sign her.
A contract’s end didn’t mean an artist could waltz into another agency without complications. Rivalries aside, the entire entertainment industry enforced strict, airtight unspoken rules about jumping ship. Any artist who betrayed their original company would be eyed with suspicion even by the company that took them in.
After all, who could guarantee they wouldn’t be the next one abandoned?
Even professional athletes switching teams had to shed a layer of skin first. For entertainers, who depended entirely on company resources, it was even tougher.
But Gu Yining had confidence in Bei Nanyan.
From what she had observed these days, Bei Nanyan seemed reliable enough. And she clearly hadn’t kept in touch with Gu Yining out of pure friendliness—there was strategy in it.
They were adults. Everyone understood these rules. If Bei Nanyan had no interest at all in recruiting her, she never would have casually mentioned working at the Big Three.
Gu Yining was waiting for good news.
“Ningning, we’re almost at the TV station,” Xiao Li reminded gently, noticing her busy messaging but not daring to interrupt too loudly.
“Mm, I know.”
Gu Yining nodded, discreetly closed the chat window, and turned her focus to the variety show script.
The flow wasn’t much different from yesterday’s livestream—except with a few added water games. Normally, she would just play along. But now…
She was in her susceptibility period.
She wasn’t at all confident she could keep her pheromones under control if she had to make physical contact with a stranger.
To make matters worse, the company had coordinated with the program team to arrange several ambiguous, intimate interactions for her.
Even if she managed to go through with them without losing control, could she be sure Bai Qingqiu wouldn’t fly into a jealous rage and axe the project the moment she saw?
Her eyes twitched at the list of segments in the script: “waist hug,” “cookie game,” “princess carry.”

Meanwhile, Bai Qingqiu had no idea her team had arranged such activities for Gu Yining. She was staring down at a bottle of stomach medicine, lost in thought.
How could she have been taking it for three days with no effect?
No matter how bad her symptoms had gotten before, the medicine had always eased them somewhat. Yet now, things weren’t improving—they were worse. At first, the smell of grease made her nauseous. Now, even the plain congee Aunt Han cooked for her left her stomach churning the moment it touched her tongue.
Why now, of all times?
She had an appointment with Director Qian to discuss a film collaboration. Director Qian’s fame and talent were rivaled only by her terrible temper. If Bai Qingqiu wanted the deal, she’d have to grit her teeth and endure several rounds of drinking with her.
Still, it was worth it. Countless companies were desperate to invest in Qian’s films—enough to line up from the North Pole to the South Pole.
And for good reason: every single one of Qian’s works was both a box-office smash and an award darling. Theaters only needed to fill the slots and profits poured in.
There was no way Bai Qingqiu would let such a chance slip by. And if the deal went through, sliding Gu Yining into the cast—even with just a few lines—would give her a stepping stone far beyond what most actresses in the industry could dream of.
Television and film might differ by just two words, but the gap in status was worlds apart.
Her brows furrowed deeper.
Losing a bit of money was nothing—her company could absorb it. But missing this opportunity? Gu Yining might never find another film debut as promising.
She couldn’t let a stomach ailment ruin this.
“Aunt Han, have the driver get ready. I’m going to the hospital,” Bai Qingqiu called out.
“Alright, I’ll arrange it right away,” Aunt Han replied.
