As a Scummy Omega, I Ran Away with the Baby - Chapter 3
Lifting her head from the computer screen, Bai Qingqiu glanced at the sky outside. It was already this late—Gu Yining should be back by now.
She wondered how Gu Yining would react when she saw that school drama tailored just for her. The thought made Bai Qingqiu’s eyes curve in amusement.
She had first met Gu Yining at her alma mater. At the time, she was there discussing a filming collaboration for a project. Gu Yining, carrying a sports bag in one hand and a water bottle in the other, charged headlong into her arms under
the scorching sun. Unfortunately, Bai Qingqiu had been in heels that day. Knocked off balance, she fell hard, scraping a sizeable patch of skin.
A cliché beginning, really.
After that, the little Alpha kept showing up under the pretext of “checking her injury.” Bai Qingqiu had intended to reject her outright, but Gu Yining’s foolish sense of righteousness reminded her of someone else—her first love in college, Bei Nanyan.
That relationship had been pure and fiery. She’d stumbled hard in it more than once, only to learn in the end that love was nothing more than hormones at work—swift in coming, swifter in leaving.
Everything was more reliable than love.
So when she saw Gu Yining—so reminiscent of Bei Nanyan—falling head over heels for her, Bai Qingqiu couldn’t deny the petty satisfaction she felt. It was almost like revenge.
Pampering Gu Yining, watching her light up with joy because of her, sink into infatuation because of her, find happiness because of her—that filled Bai Qingqiu with immense gratification.
It was no different from raising a puppy: feeding it, grooming it, watching it thrive and grow glossy under her care, feeling pride and ownership in the process.
And yet, why had she differentiated as an Omega back then?
There was nothing about her that screamed “Omega.”
With a sigh, Bai Qingqiu lost her mood for work. She shut her laptop and wandered leisurely into the kitchen.
“Aunt Han, is the ginger soup ready? Yining will need it when she comes back.”
As she spoke, her gaze swept the kitchen. Aunt Han was both efficient and tidy. The stove and counters were spotless. Aside from the seasoning bottles, the place was so pristine it looked like a model home.
That was precisely why Bai Qingqiu had hired her as a live-in housekeeper—she had a touch of obsessive cleanliness.
“It’s been done for a while, just cooling off,” Aunt Han said, smiling as she pointed to the clay pot on the stove.
Bai Qingqiu nodded, thoughtful. She was about to leave, but turned back with another thought.
“Make some sweet dumplings too. Yining’s coming home late—she might be hungry. If she doesn’t eat them, just throw them out.”
After all, Yining was the type who couldn’t sleep if she went to bed hungry. A little glutton. Luckily, she was an Alpha with good metabolism and exercised often—otherwise she’d have long turned into a pig.
“Alright,” Aunt Han replied, though she couldn’t make sense of the faint smile tugging at Bai Qingqiu’s lips.

The electronic lock gave a sharp sound.
Bai Qingqiu, who had been dozing with her eyes shut, opened them. She reached for her phone, unlocking the screen. The pale glow stung her eyes, making them water before the time came into focus.
2:13 a.m. At last, Gu Yining was back.
Suppressing a yawn behind her hand, Bai Qingqiu blinked away the tears and got up, phone and empty coffee cup in hand, shuffling toward her room.
She had barely taken two steps when, predictably, a voice called from behind.
“Still awake?”
“Mm.” Bai Qingqiu paused, turning her head.
But Gu Yining’s face showed none of the excitement she had expected—only exhaustion.
Well, no wonder. Working this late, with that campus drama she had deliberately arranged for her—where Gu Yining was cast as the heroine—most of the spotlight must have been on her.
Taking a slow breath, Bai Qingqiu let her gaze roam over her. She was still wearing the same off-shoulder, knee-length dress she’d left in. Her collarbone was half-hidden by loose curls, perfectly placed, leaving not a trace of anything unusual.
Bai Qingqiu looked away, lips tightening as she lifted her empty coffee cup.
“I ran out of coffee while working, so I went to the kitchen for more. But Aunt Han had already washed the pot, so I just sat on the sofa to rest for a bit.”
Reasonable enough—impeccable, really.
Gu Yining often praised her sharp mind, and it wasn’t undeserved. Compared to Gu Yining, her brainpower was indeed more than sufficient.
Had Yining spared a thought, she might’ve noticed the flaws—if Bai Qingqiu wanted to rest, why sit in the distant living room instead of going straight to bed? And with Aunt Han knowing her coffee habit, the kitchen was always stocked.
But Gu Yining was both slow-witted and utterly clueless in the kitchen. She never stepped foot inside it—except to eat.
“Oh, then it’s good you didn’t drink more. Cold coffee’s bad for your stomach.”
Sure enough, the “slow one” took her words at face value, even earnestly agreeing.
She wanted coffee, didn’t get it, was already frustrated—and now she had to hear it was for her own good?
Infuriating.
Rolling her eyes inwardly, Bai Qingqiu feigned indifference with a nod. Casually, she added, “By the way, when I went to the kitchen I saw Aunt Han made sweet dumplings. If you’re hungry, have some—they’re still warm.”
“Wow, Aunt Han is the best!”
Gu Yining’s tired eyes lit up instantly, her grin spreading so wide she nearly bounced on the spot.
Over dumplings? Really?
Bai Qingqiu watched her and felt her mood sour. She quickened her pace up the stairs, her robe trailing with effortless, aloof elegance.

As soon as Bai Qingqiu was gone, all strength drained from Gu Yining’s body. She nearly collapsed onto the sofa.
She didn’t even like sweet dumplings anymore. She used to love them, so much that once, when no adult was watching, she ate an entire pot by herself. That stunt had landed her in the hospital for stomach pumping.
Since then, she’d developed a lifelong aversion.
Just yesterday, she had told Bai Qingqiu about it. And tonight, Bai Qingqiu had conveniently reminded her to eat the dumplings Aunt Han had made. If Aunt Han had been around, she wouldn’t have cooked them in the first place.
In this so-called “home,” the only one who truly cared about her was Aunt Han.
A bitter taste filled Gu Yining’s mouth. The campus drama’s plot summary replayed in her mind.
A classic campus Alpha–Omega romance. The Alpha was captain of the basketball team. One day, while playing, he accidentally hit the Omega with the ball. That mishap sparked their acquaintance, then their bickering, then love.
At first, she had been secretly delighted by the setup.
After all, she had met Bai Qingqiu in a strikingly similar way—on her way to the ice rink, colliding with her by accident. The assistant had said the project was only added to the production schedule last night.
And Bai Qingqiu had told her there’d be a surprise waiting. Could it be that the surprise wasn’t just casting her as the heroine, but even scripting in that fateful encounter?
But reality had a way of striking when she was happiest.
On the way home, she’d stumbled across a news article about their alma mater upgrading its campus facilities. She had barely rolled her eyes at the timing—always after you graduate—when she noticed the sponsor named in the article.
Former C University soccer team captain Bei Nanyan, complete with photo.
Delicate features, a fresh, refined aura. By coincidence, her height differed from Gu Yining’s by no more than two centimeters. And when she smiled—there was a fifty-percent resemblance, at least.
The top comment in the article’s section had said it best:
“Honestly, the scariest thing in this world isn’t just that someone’s smarter than you—it’s when even their face is prettier. Doesn’t anyone else think Captain Bei’s smile looks a lot like that little star, Gu Yining?”
It did look alike.
Bai Qingqiu had once mentioned dating in college. Could her ex have been this Bei Nanyan?
And if so… could that ball-on-the-court accident have been with Bai Qingqiu herself?
