As a Scummy Omega, I Ran Away with the Baby - Chapter 8
[Bei Nanyan]: Mm, we were classmates.
Classmates.
Gu Yining let out a breath of relief, but before she could say anything more, another message came through.
[Bei Nanyan]: I’ve got something to take care of. We’ll talk later.
Surprisingly, the moment this subject came up, Bei Nanyan lost the easy openness she’d shown just moments before. She brushed the matter aside with a vague reply, then abruptly ended the conversation.
That reaction alone was almost enough to confirm that there was something between them.
If they were really just ordinary classmates, Bei Nanyan wouldn’t be avoiding it so carefully.
Gu Yining stared blankly at the lush greenery in front of her for a long time before finally rising from her seat and heading back to the streaming room.

“You’re back, Ningning?”
Xiao Li waved cheerfully, clearly in good spirits. The simple room had been arranged neatly under her hand. On the desk, the phone stand and ring light were ready, and even a pack of tissues had been placed nearby just in case.
Behind the chair stood a cardboard backdrop sent by the production team.
“Mm, I’m back.”
Gu Yining gathered her thoughts, nodded, and carefully avoided the tangle of wires on the floor as she sat down in front of the phone.
“The stream with joint mic will officially start in five minutes.”
As she spoke, Xiao Li handed her a script. Not to be read on camera, of course, but placed on the desk as a guide for the flow of the broadcast.
“Okay.”
But Gu Yining’s mind was still caught up in the certainty that there really was something between Bei Nanyan and Bai Qingqiu. Her reply was flat, listless. The elaborate braid the hairstylist had carefully done earlier had been snagged by the garden shrubs, leaving a stray lock dangling by her ear, unnoticed.
“Ah, your hair’s messy—I’ll call the stylist.”
Xiao Li’s alarmed voice sounded at her ear, followed quickly by hurried footsteps. The stylist, who had just gone to the lounge, rushed back in and planted herself behind Gu Yining at once.
“Ningning, what’s wrong? You’re not in a good mood?”
There wasn’t much Xiao Li could do except stand back and watch as the stylist deftly picked apart the braid, smoothed out her hair, and redid it. Her tone was full of puzzled concern.
“Kind of. Don’t worry, it’s nothing.”
Gu Yining lowered her head to let the stylist work. Tall as she was, even seated in the non-adjustable chair, she was nearly level with the stylist, so she had to duck down a little to make it easier.
Like a swan in an evening gown, drooping its head in defeat.
The stylist had seen this kind of situation countless times before. Before Gu Yining could sink too deep into her gloom, a light pat landed on her shoulder.
“All done. Don’t go messing it up again, okay?” With that, the stylist bustled out once more.
“Mm.”

Because she had been holed up at home during her susceptibility period, there had been no public appearances for a while. Now, the instant the stream started, the live chat erupted.
[Aaaah, Mama Ningning is here!]
[Front row, front row, front row!]
[Baby Ningning, we missed you so much!]
[Wife!!! Ningning, my wife!!!!!!!]
A genuine smile curved Gu Yining’s lips. The shadow that had lingered in her heart lifted considerably under the onslaught of her fans’ affection. At least now, her job was to pass joy on to them—not to sit here looking dejected and worrying them.
“Yes, I’m here.”
She flashed the camera a bright, practiced smile, her eyes sparkling under the ring light, her tone lively and crisp.
It was as if she was a completely different person from the gloomy, quiet Gu Yining of moments ago.
The comments exploded.
[Aaaaah I’m dying, someone save me!]
[Wife!!]
[Young Master Sun’s Wife sent a battleship x10]
[Gu Yining’s One and Only Beloved Wife sent hot-air balloons x99]
[Gu Yining! Gu Yining! Gu Yining!]
…
The comments flew by so fast they were unreadable, while the balloon animations swelled to dominate nearly the entire screen.
Curious—since she seldom streamed—Gu Yining leaned closer to read the usernames. One ID in particular lodged in her mind.
“‘Gu Yining’s One and Only Beloved Wife’? Pfft… you all are too much.” She couldn’t help but burst out laughing as she read it.
“I didn’t designate anyone, okay?” she added with a chuckle, then mouthed to Xiao Li for a bottle of water, taking a sip to moisten her throat.
Her fans were really enthusiastic.
[Right, right, shameless upstairs!]
[Exactly!!]
[Obviously it’s me!]
[As Ningning’s real mom-fan, I refuse this marriage!!]
Seeing the bickering escalate, the host of the simultaneous stream quickly jumped in to steer things back on track.
“Looks like the fans have really missed Ningning. Why don’t we have Ningning introduce herself first?”
“Hello everyone, I’m Ningning, Gu Yining. In Infatuation, I play Young Master Sun’s daughter, Sun Xin.” She smiled and waved at the camera.
…
“All right, our event is nearly at its close. Next, Ningning will draw two lucky fans for a Q&A.”
The host lifted her cue card to indicate.
“How do I draw them?”
Gu Yining blinked in confusion. Having been shut away through her susceptibility period and deprived of Bai Qingqiu’s pheromones, her brain was foggy and her reactions sluggish.
“You just need to read out two usernames from the live chat. Then our staff will message them for their questions.”
The host clearly hadn’t expected her to be so lost, and her smile gave her away.
The chat erupted in laughter.
[Hahahahahahahaha]
[Too slow, hahaha!!]
[Has Ningning never streamed before? Classic old-soul Ning.]
[I’m claiming this silly Ning.]
[I can’t stop laughing, you guys go ahead.]
[Baby, you’re too cute.]
[Ningning, look at me! Read my ID!!]
Gu Yining, of course, could see all these comments poking fun at her. She didn’t want to be this slow, but it couldn’t be helped—too long away from Bai Qingqiu’s pheromones during her susceptibility period left her sluggish.
“Ahem.”
She straightened, affecting solemnity as she tried to catch an ID in the torrent of comments. But the chat was moving so fast that anything she spotted was gone before she could focus.
“Then… let’s start with ‘One and Only Beloved Wife.’”
Quick thinking—she recalled the shameless ID from earlier.
The stream paused for half a beat, then comments exploded even faster than before. What had been barely distinguishable words earlier now blurred into streaks of motion.
[Didn’t think Ningning, with those thick brows and big eyes, would be into this!]
[I’m dying of jealousy!]
[Noooo, Mama forbids this!!]
…
At times like this, it was best to play dumb. Gu Yining averted her gaze, pretending not to see.
The staff quickly passed the chosen fan’s question to Xiao Li’s phone.
Only—Xiao Li looked a little awkward.
“What is it?”
Gu Yining leaned over, slipping out of frame to glance at the screen. The so-called “Beloved Wife” had asked:
[Ningning, do you have someone you love? You’re so wonderful—surely everyone must be in love with you.]
Actors’ private lives were sensitive matters, rarely revealed in public.
The same was true for Gu Yining.
She had been with Bai Qingqiu for over four years, and hardly anyone knew.
But today—for once—she didn’t feel like keeping it hidden.
Returning to frame, Gu Yining looked straight at the camera, her expression serious. Word by word, she gave her answer.
“Do I have someone I love? Yes. I love her very much. And as for the second part—no, not everyone loves me the way you do.”
She smiled.
