As a Second Reincarnation Bonus, I Kept Rerolling and Ended Up Reincarnating as the Character Who Should’ve Had the Easiest Life... or So I Thought - Episode 12: Magic Sword
Episode 12: Magic Sword
Two years had passed.
Atlas had turned nine, and Iru was seven. The brothers were learning academics and various noble hobbies.
However, the older brother had no interest in such things. He didn’t even try to hide his lazy attitude.
As for the younger brother, he was the complete opposite and continued to greedily learn many things.
“Honestly. If you keep spacing out like that, your little brother is going to surpass you soon.”
Their father sometimes scolded Atlas like that. But being a man soft on his family, he never spoke harshly nor treated him coldly.
As usual, Atlas half-heartedly finished the tutor’s lesson for the day. And before anyone noticed, he had slipped out to the mansion’s roof to take a nap.
(Today is perfect for a nap.)
The days of endlessly fighting in his previous life felt like a lie—now, he was living slow, peaceful days.
As he stared absentmindedly at the clouds, he suddenly remembered the saint’s prophecy from that time.
(Six more years… Will fate really cross paths again? It wouldn’t be strange if I’ve already lost the qualifications. And even if I have, that’s fine.)
He was sick of daily battles. He didn’t even want to think about the busy days of chasing promotions and pride.
“Onii-chan! Hey, wanna go to the weapon shop!?”
It was while he was surrendering himself to sleepiness. Knowing his brother often went up to the attic, Iru had climbed up to get him.
“Why would we go to the weapon shop?”
“The knights guarding our house are getting new weapons. I thought it’d be nice to go see them too.”
“Looking at weapons isn’t fun.”
“That’s not true! I heard they got magic swords in stock recently.”
“Hm? Magic swords?”
Swords imbued with magic that attack enemies—those were common in fantasy worlds.
In fact, in his earlier life, Atlas had once felt romantic about magic swords. And in his previous life, what he was best at was the magic sword.
“Yeah! If we don’t hurry, they’ll sell out fast. Come on, Onii-chan, let’s just go take a quick look.”
At times like these, Iru wouldn’t give up. When he found something interesting, he couldn’t help but want to know more.
And this time, his older brother was also more interested than usual.
“Let’s go check it out.”
“Yay!”
Watching Iru jump for joy as usual, Atlas couldn’t help but smile wryly. Being only seven years old, Iru sometimes felt more like his son than his little brother.
The two headed to the town of Liza within the Lothian territory, along with a few knights.
It was a town not far from home. The brothers often took walks there. While chatting lightly with the knights, they arrived at the largest weapons store in the area. And Iru let out a surprised voice.
“Wow! Hey hey, is this really that weapon shop? It’s super pretty though!”
“Yes. No doubt about it. Business has been good lately, and the owner was bragging about how they renovated the shop.”
One of the knights answered with a laugh. Iru hadn’t been to the weapons store for a while.
The store was once a worn-down wooden shack. It now had a clean exterior with hard-looking white walls and a bright orange roof.
(A weapon shop making money… is that really a good thing?)
Atlas felt an uneasy premonition cross his mind. The interior too had been transformed into a luxurious place made of what looked like white marble. It had weapons and armor neatly lined up.
It reminded the former Japanese man of the atmosphere of an old, cheap clothing store.
“Amazing! There’s a spear made of crystal! And armor too!”
Iru ran here and there. He was unable to stay still. The knights quickly checked with the staff about the weapons and armor they had come for and moved to complete their shopping efficiently.
Atlas walked around the store with Iru but showed little interest in most items.
However, a sword Iru pointed to caught his attention.
“Hey Onii-chan, could this be a magic sword?”
“This is…”
It was a perfectly ordinary short sword in its sheath. The hilt and decorations were blue, and there was nothing flashy about it.
Only the red gem embedded in the guard stood out strangely.
“I see. A magic stone has been embedded, huh.”
He thought to himself: same structure as in his past life.
“What’s a magic stone?”
“Simply put, it’s a stone with magic embedded in it. If you pour magic into it when you grip it, you can use a magic sword.”
“Wow! Then maybe I can use a magic sword too!”
“Yeah, probably.”
Atlas couldn’t say for sure. Magic swords were generally said to work for anyone with magic power.
However, in reality, compatibility mattered. Atlas had seen many cases where only specific individuals could use certain swords.
Whether the brothers could use this sword or not—they’d have to try and see. So, Atlas called over the shopkeeper standing at the back of the store.
(Having my brother learn swordsmanship isn’t a bad thing.)
He himself had no intention of trying it—he just wanted to make his little brother happy.
“Shopkeeper, what kind of magic is in this sword?”
“Ah, that one’s called the Wind Cutter Sword. It can use a technique called Air Slasher. But, you need decent magic power and compatibility. If it’s just testing it in the yard, though, that’s fine.”
There were many cases where people bought magic swords only to find they couldn’t use them. That’s why many stores allowed testing whether the magic would activate.
“Alright, let’s give it a try.”
“Yay! I’m excited!”
Iru’s eyes sparkled with joy at the chance to see a magic sword for the first time.
As Atlas gripped the short sword’s hilt, memories of the past began to resurface.
With complicated feelings in his chest, he drew the sword from its sheath.
