Episode 14: Encounter with the Sword Saint
This world is identical to a certain game.
However, Atlas had not yet met any of the central characters from that story.
The man who becomes the protagonist of the tale, the Sword Saint Marcellus Will. He was fated to meet Atlas during this very trip.
Up until now, the world had been faithful to destiny. But only Atlas had not followed that script.
Even if a single person ignored the storyline, destiny was supposed to continue as planned.
That’s how it should have been.
On a hot summer day, the Lothian family decided to travel to an island called Larna. This destination was famous for tourism.
It was purely for leisure. And Atlas let out a wry smile seeing his father Shade and mother Marianne. As they were uncharacteristically excited for their age.
Iru, from the moment they began their voyage, was excited and running around. He was making friends with the other children on the ship and even inviting Atlas to go fishing.
“Whoa! Onii-chan, why are you so good at fishing!?”
He had experience from his past life. It was when he fished to survive hunger. He knew how to fish well.
Each time he caught a fish, Iru and the new friends he made on the ship shouted in amazement.
“Watch carefully. Also, if you know the terrain and the currents, it’ll go well. Alright then, I’ll go read inside the ship—”
“Ehh! That’s amazing! Hey, teach us!”
He had been planning to retreat. But the curious children wouldn’t take no for an answer.
In the end, he had no choice but to teach them how to fish. And he ended up worn out from the heat.
When they got bored of fishing, the children began pretending to use swords and magic.
When Iru showed off the magic he had learned, both the boys and girls were thrilled.
In this way, they passed the time. And after a week, the ship finally arrived at its destination, Larna Island.

“I might be seeing such a blue sky for the first time.”
“Yeah! It’s so deep and vivid!”
After arriving on the island and leaving their luggage at the inn, Atlas and Iru headed for the beach.
The sky over the island was clear and bright. It was deeper and more vivid than any sky he could remember.
Up until now, the older brother hadn’t been too enthusiastic. But he began to feel his spirits lift just like his younger brother’s.
“I want to go in the sea!”
“Wait! You don’t have a swimsuit.”
“It’ll dry quick, right? I wanna go in!”
“Hey, no.”
“Ah! Onii-chan, that girl— we’ve met her before!”
Iru couldn’t hold back his curiosity and excitement. He was about to run into the sea. It was then when Atlas tried to stop him that a familiar girl passed by.
A girl holding a parasol. She had two guards accompanying her.
Saint Lilica was expressionlessly gazing at the seashore.
“Onee-chan! Long time no see! Do you remember us!?”
Iru energetically ran up to the saint. But the two guards didn’t take kindly to this.
“Boy, don’t approach the saint so casually.”
“Eh, ah… I’m sorry.”
“It’s fine. Please allow me to speak with them for a bit.”
However, Lilica didn’t mind.
The two adults were surprised at her unexpected reaction. But, they had been instructed to some extent to respect her will. So they said nothing more.
“Did you come here for sightseeing?”Â
Atlas asked. And she nodded.
“Sightseeing, promotion, interaction… that too is a reason. But the biggest reason—was that fate called me here.”
“Fate? Oh yeah, you said something like that before!”
The saint possessed the power to see the future.
Perhaps her power had pointed her to come to this island.
(This feels a bit too perfect. If this is fate, then our reunion must also be inevitable.)
Atlas was pondering. He felt that something troublesome was beginning. And suddenly, someone’s loud voice rang out.
“A kid’s collapsed!”
“Where did he wash up from!?”
“Is he breathing!? Is he okay!?”
“T-This is bad! If we don’t act now, he won’t make it!”
Before they knew it, a crowd had gathered.
Atlas and Iru ran over. And there they saw a boy lying on his back.
A child about the same age as Atlas had lost consciousness.
“Did he drown!?”Â
Iru shouted.
“This is… serious. He’s not even breathing.”
The boy’s face was already pale. It was unclear where he had come from. But anyone could tell the chances of survival were slim.
“He has a pulse.”
Atlas quickly prepared to perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. But then, Lilica stepped in.
“It’s okay. Leave it to me.”
She closed her eyes and gently placed her hand on the boy’s chest. She was beginning to pray.
Then, a warm light overflowed from her fingertips and wrapped around the boy’s entire body.
“A-Amazing… This is…”
Iru gasped in admiration.
The people around were also captivated by the saint’s magic.
Gradually, the light soaked in. And the boy began to cough and twist his body.
His consciousness returned. The pain on his face softened.
Then, he slowly opened his eyes.
“…Where is this? What happened to me…?”
“You drowned. But you’re okay now.”
“I…”
The boy remained on his back. He was staring blankly at the sky.
No one immediately noticed that the clarity in his light brown eyes was gradually turning to confusion.
“…Who am I…?”
Atlas was the first to notice the strange reaction.
“You don’t remember who you are?”
“I don’t… Oh, no… I only remember my name… I’m… Marcellus.”
(Marcellus? I don’t know that name.)
The people around buzzed with excitement over the miracle performed by the saint and the mysterious words of the boy.
Amid the commotion, Atlas lifted him up and decided to take care of him.
This development was different from the original story.
It was the same that the saint saved him. But it wasn’t supposed to be Atlas who carried Marcellus.
In the original, the villainous noble only watched from afar at first.
Atlas’ actions had slightly thrown the gears out of alignment.
