As She Wished (GL) - Chapter 10
The next day at school, Fu Jing was pulled along by Qin Ziqin for lunch and a chat.
The guy Qin Ziqin had previously gotten contact information for, after a period of her gentle words and subtle pursuit, had finally officially become her boyfriend.
Fu Jing sighed, saying, “You’re amazing, and truly prioritize romance over friendship. You only bother with me after you’ve landed your partner.”
“You call this prioritizing romance over friendship? This is called understanding priorities!” Qin Ziqin was in high spirits, asking her, “What’s your situation now? Are you still pursuing her? Have you moved on?”
“…Of course it’s still her, and we’ve made a lot of progress!”
Fu Jing quickly told her about last night’s events, her tone joyful the entire time.
After finishing, Fu Jing even cupped her face, savoring the memory: “She’s so thoughtful! I wasn’t even a customer anymore, but she still went around to the passenger side to hold an umbrella for me.”
Qin Ziqin used the tip of her chopsticks to poke a piece of potato that looked like chicken, sighing helplessly, “Because you didn’t have an umbrella yourself. She offered to drop you off; was she supposed to watch you get soaked like a drowned chicken before getting in the car? She cares about the car even if she doesn’t care about you.”
Fu Jing: “But when I hugged her, she didn’t push me away.”
Qin Ziqin’s tone was fair and objective: “It was such a tiny, tiny accident, and you even apologized. Most decent people wouldn’t push someone away, okay? Do you think everyone’s as neurotic as you about not being touched?”
Hearing this, Fu Jing pouted sadly, looking at her with pitiful eyes. “Why do you always tear me down? Are you trying to say I won’t be able to get Gu Qingci!”
Qin Ziqin rolled her eyes, eating as she spoke, “On the contrary, I’m wondering why it’s taken you so many days and you still haven’t landed her? It makes no sense. Are you sure she’s gay?”
“Absolutely!”
“What’s your evidence?”
“Intuition!”
“…”
Qin Ziqin narrowed her eyes slightly, looking up and deeply gazing at her good friend, who had always been a bit slow on the uptake.
Fu Jing’s expression was pure and innocent, and she even tilted her head.
“Alright,” Qin Ziqin was instantly defeated, sticking her chopsticks through a piece of chicken. She said with a sigh of admiration, “I guess I’ll just assume everyone has intuition.”
“Hmph,” Fu Jing glared at her. “Don’t look down on others.”
“I’m not looking down on others, I’m looking down on *you*,” Qin Ziqin shook her head. “But consider yourself lucky; you have me. Now that I’m free, I’ll personally teach you how to pursue someone.”
Fu Jing cheered: “Oh! Thank you, sister!”
Qin Ziqin held out her hand and said, “First, give me your phone. I’ll look at her Moments to analyze it.”
Fu Jing: “But I don’t have her WeChat.”
Qin Ziqin: “Why?”
Fu Jing: “Because I haven’t asked for it yet.”
Qin Ziqin’s face was full of confusion: “Excuse me, what have you been doing all these days when you’ve seen her?”
Fu Jing tried to recall: “…Probably just staring at her?”
Qin Ziqin: “…”
She was utterly speechless. “Forget it. It’s better to set up your own Moments first; then, when you add her, it’ll be more natural.”
Qin Ziqin scrolled through Fu Jing’s photo album, finding that she didn’t have any selfies. With a sigh of helplessness, she continued to scroll through the Moments of Fu Jing’s contacts, where many professors liked to post photos from student events. It took her most of the day to find a few usable photos.
One was from a College of Science awards ceremony. Fu Jing stood in the middle, smiling stiffly, but exuding a naive, sweet aura.
However, keywords in the background like “Songjiang University” and “Outstanding Student” gave it an academic feel, creating a charming contrast.
Qin Ziqin glanced at it a few times; this one could be used directly without editing.
Then she suddenly noticed a striking girl in the corner. She had long, flowing hair and a fair face. The edges of the photo were a bit blurry, but it was clear she was graceful and beautiful.
“Who is this person?”
Qin Ziqin showed the photo to Fu Jing.
“I think her name is Xu Can,” Fu Jing zoomed in on the picture, staring for a few seconds before recognizing her. “Apparently, she’s a very impressive junior student.”
Qin Ziqin carefully examined her, tsk-tsking as she questioned: “How is it that she’s also a top student from the College of Science, and she’s dressed like a fairy, while you’re wearing a drab windbreaker for a group photo on the same stage?!”
Fu Jing: “Is a windbreaker not good…?”
Qin Ziqin: “Never mind. Just crop her out before you post it on Moments.”
Fu Jing: “Oh!”
The entire afternoon, Qin Ziqin chatted instructions to Fu Jing on how to decorate her Moments, showcase her personality, and highlight her value. She even took her to buy new clothes in different styles.
Finally, she earnestly admonished: “Fu Jing, you’ve got this. Just be more proactive, okay?!”
••••
Thursday.
Fu Jing had dressed up carefully, wearing a sleeveless, high-waisted black dress that revealed her fair, flawless arms. Black stockings encased her slender, straight legs, with a faint hint of skin showing through. On her feet were a pair of partially lacquered, carved leather shoes.
She received immediate unanimous praise as soon as she entered the bar.
Ye Xinyi smiled knowingly and clapped for her. “Dressed so alluringly, looks like you’re pulling out all the stops today!”
“That’s right,” Fu Jing couldn’t hold back, her eyes curving with a smile as she honestly said, “My friend said this dress is really cunning—it looks understated but it’s high-waisted and short.”
Tao Xian glanced at it: “This cut really does flatter the figure.”
“It’s not the cut that flatters,” Fu Jing suddenly retorted, emphasizing, “It’s that I already have a good figure, okay?”
Tao Xian paused, then remembered that she had previously lied to Fu Jing, saying that Gu Qingci liked people with good figures.
She actually remembered that?
Tao Xian suppressed a laugh, pretending to be normal as she clapped. “Good! Good figure! When Gu Qingci sees you later, she definitely won’t be able to take her eyes off you!”
Everyone in the bar was very supportive: “That’s right, slender waist and thin legs! We can’t take our eyes off you either.”
Fu Jing felt greatly pleased, chuckling. She even nodded earnestly and said, “Tonight, I’m definitely going to charm her, and ideally, lure her into bed in one go.”
“…”
Everyone looked around.
Cheng Nannan pursed her lips and sighed: “I’ve realized Fu Jing is actually quite lewd; it’s just that she looks innocent and her tone is so naive and sweet that she always gives us the false impression that she’s pure.”
Fu Jing laughed even more unrestrainedly, and intentionally used a soft, adorable tone to say, “So, you can’t judge a book by its cover, right? I actually think about how to sleep with Gu Qingci every day~”
Tao Xian coughed: “Gu Qingci is behind you.”
Fu Jing: “…That’s not it! Listen to me explain!”
The buoyant spring breeze on her face instantly vanished. She stiffly turned her head, frantically trying to figure out how to smooth things over for herself—
But she saw no one.
“…”
She kept looking behind her.
Everyone in the bar suddenly burst into laughter.
…She’d been tricked.
Fu Jing recovered, feeling relieved. She patted her chest and said good-naturedly, “Go ahead and laugh! I don’t see what’s so funny.”
Ye Xinyi let out a goose-like cackle, pounding her chest and gasping for breath: “You were just brazenly saying you were thinking all about how to sleep with her, and then you hear someone behind you and immediately backtrack, saying it’s not like that… With your small guts, I think you’d better just lie flat and be a ‘0’!”
Fu Jing thought for a moment, then told them: “My sports skills were always terrible as a child, except for the shot put, which I’d just throw casually and get full marks. My teacher said my movements were messy, relying entirely on brute strength. So, scientifically speaking, I’m very much a ‘1’!”
“Really?”
“I can’t believe you’re that strong.”
Fu Jing proudly said: “I’ve never lost an arm wrestle either.”
“Oh wow.”
The bar staff immediately disbelieved her, pulled over tables and chairs, and one by one, came forward to arm wrestle with Fu Jing. Result: no one was stronger than her.
Fu Jing laughed heartily: “How about that? Didn’t I say I’m a ‘1’!”
Tao Xian then said: “Oh, Gu Qingci’s here.”
“How could I fall for that trick a second time?” Fu Jing said, hands on her hips, chin slightly raised, full of spirit. “Anyway, tonight I’m definitely going to conquer Gu Qingci!”
“…”
The words left her mouth.
She was wondering why no one was making fun of her.
Then she saw everyone’s expressions were subtle, a mix of surprise and suppressed laughter, their gazes collectively focused a few meters behind Fu Jing.
Sensing something vaguely, Fu Jing stiffly turned her head and indeed met a calm gaze. Gu Qingci’s face was in shadow, making her expression hard to discern. She took slow steps forward.
Fu Jing swallowed.
As she got closer, Fu Jing saw no ripples in Gu Qingci’s inky black eyes. Gu Qingci subtly raised an eyebrow, looking a little surprised. “Why are you all staring at me?”
She probably hadn’t heard what was said just now.
Fu Jing couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief, feeling a stroke of luck like a general amnesty. She quickly approached and asked, “Why are you here so early? You must be in a very good mood today.”
“Not very good,” Gu Qingci glanced at her. “I’m here to drown my sorrows in wine.”
Fu Jing: “…”
“Fu Jing, come here,” Tao Xian quickly walked to the bar. From the cabinet below, she took out Gu Qingci’s usual favorite red wine, and found the corkscrew. “Go and take it to her.”
“Okay.” Fu Jing nodded repeatedly.
She carried the tray with the red wine and related utensils, preparing to go upstairs to the second floor. Because the person waiting in the private room was Gu Qingci, her heart was pounding, and she wasn’t walking very steadily.
She ascended the stairs with extra caution.
She knocked on the door, then pushed it open and entered the private room.
••••
Although Fu Jing didn’t drink herself, having been in a bar for so long, she knew she needed to open the red wine and pour it into a decanter first.
She picked up the corkscrew, twisted it in a few times, and cleanly pulled out the cork. Holding the bottle with her palm over the label, she poured the wine.
All her movements were skillful.
Fu Jing’s hands weren’t as slender as her physique might suggest; they were slightly fleshy, soft, with small dimples on the back of her hand when her knuckles bent. They were delicate and fair, making one want to grab them and hold them playfully.
“…”
Fu Jing looked up and realized Gu Qingci had been staring at her hands the whole time.
Her movements stiffened slightly. She quickly reviewed her previous steps and cautiously asked, “What’s wrong? I didn’t do anything wrong, did I?”
Gu Qingci’s expression showed fatigue. She leaned forward, personally holding the decanter and pouring wine into a highball glass until it was almost full. Then she said faintly, “No.”
The wine in her highball glass was almost filled to the brim.
Soon, she drank most of the glass, maintaining an upright posture, her face showing no flush. She continued drinking, seemingly intent on boring herself into drunkenness.
Fu Jing watched, secretly clicking her tongue, knowing that Gu Qingci was in a truly bad mood today.
But she wasn’t good at saying comforting words.
She could only quietly keep her company.
After a long pause, Fu Jing stood up and sat beside her, making it easier to pour wine for her. “Is red wine really good?”
Gu Qingci said casually, “Do you want to try it?”
“…” Fu Jing first shook her head slightly, then immediately realized that she hadn’t brought an extra glass.
So, if she were to taste it, it would have to be from the glass in Gu Qingci’s hand.
Fu Jing immediately changed to nodding, pretending to be casual: “I can try it.”
Gu Qingci, however, suddenly smiled.
Her red lips curved slightly, her eyes reflecting a warm light. Her features originally held an elegant and dignified beauty, but with a slight lift of her lips, they gained an indescribably alluring quality.
Perhaps it was from a few drinks, but her eyes and brows no longer held their previous subtle darkness.
Looking at Fu Jing, she smiled quietly, “Forget it. Kids can’t drink alcohol.”
“Where’s the kid?” Fu Jing felt instantly indignant, puffing out her cheeks slightly in frustration. But mindful of Gu Qingci’s bad mood, she didn’t dare say much, only muttering, “Anyway, I’m not a kid.”
Gu Qingci let out a soft chuckle.
Fu Jing’s heart stirred, and she suddenly moved a little closer to her.
“…”
Gu Qingci remained impassive, letting her approach. She seemed curious to see what Fu Jing would do next.
Their gazes met for a moment.
Fu Jing involuntarily looked away, nervously rubbing the hem of her clothes to ease her shyness. Calming her emotions, she tried to formulate what to say.
She wanted to say that she could take her to eat some cake and desserts, because sugar activates the dopamine system in the brain, making people feel a false sense of happiness.
But the words caught in her throat… it didn’t seem appropriate to say that, did it?
She also wanted to say that no matter what kind of alcohol one drank, consuming alcohol was ultimately detrimental to the human body… Now, those words seemed even more inappropriate to say.
Fu Jing frowned, troubled.
She really was terrible at comforting people!
“Little sister, didn’t you say you were going to ‘conquer’ me?” Gu Qingci spoke very softly, incredibly gentle, and as if afraid Fu Jing wouldn’t hear, she turned her face, her long lashes lowered, and leaned in to her ear, asking, “How do you not even have a plan?”
