As She Wished (GL) - Chapter 6
After agreeing to the part-time job, Fu Jing happily went with Lu Jiuping to the bar to learn how to close up. There wasn’t much to do, really—just putting the bartending tools back in place and wiping down the counter.
When they were almost finished tidying up, Fu Jing moved some of the decorations and suddenly noticed a small metal model hidden in a compartment. She took out the little craft piece, intending to wipe off the dust.
This Green Dragon Blade was very beautiful.
Although not exquisitely crafted, it was quite visually appealing when scaled down.
Its silver gleam was subdued, and the ancient, delicate blade didn’t look like a toy.
Fu Jing held it and curiously swiped it across her palm.
Instantly, a faint white line appeared, like a scratch. A few seconds later, she saw bright red bl00d slowly spread out…
This blade was actually sharpened.
Fu Jing was stunned; how could models be made so meticulously now?
She stared, hesitating for a few seconds, then still took it to ask Lu Jiuping, who was wiping the floor nearby, “I accidentally got this Green Dragon Blade dirty, is that okay?”
“Did you use it to open a bottle of wine?” Lu Jiuping hadn’t noticed her actions earlier. He glanced at it and said casually, “It’s a cheap thing that’s been here for ages, no big deal if it breaks.”
Fu Jing felt relieved and wiped it clean with a tissue.
She put it back in its original place.
Lu Jiuping saw the dark red stain on the paper and asked with interest, “Master, how did you use that thing to open red wine? Teach me!”
“…I didn’t open red wine,” Fu Jing, the ‘master,’ awkwardly spread her hands and explained, “I thought it was a toy, so I tried to cut myself with it.”
The untreated bloodstain on her palm was half-congealed, looking a bit gruesome.
Lu Jiuping gasped, “Holy crap!”
She immediately dropped the rag in her hand and shouted, “Sister Anjiu, hurry and get the first-aid kit! Fu Jing cut her hand, it’s a huge gash!”
“Okay,” Tao Xian called back from not far away, “The first-aid kit is upstairs, I’ll go get it now.”
“How did you do this?” Ye Xinyi conveniently came over, glanced at it, and asked, “Slicing lemons shouldn’t cut your palm, right?”
“…”
So, Fu Jing recounted how she had done it.
Actually, she didn’t think the cut needed any treatment.
But since others had already said something, and the first-aid kit was being fetched, she couldn’t very well refuse. Otherwise, it would seem like she was deliberately trying to act brave.
••••
Everyone gradually finished tidying up and closing the bar, then left in small groups. Upon hearing about Fu Jing’s cut hand, they offered both comfort and playful teasing.
Tao Xian came down with the first-aid kit and also asked, “How did you get this cut?”
“…”
Fu Jing didn’t make a sound, merely glancing up at Gu Qingci behind her.
Lu Jiuping answered for her, “She saw the mini knife, thought it was fun, picked it up, and cut a line on her palm.”
“The Green Dragon Crescent Blade from the bar?” Tao Xian remembered the little trinket she had casually bought. She opened the first-aid kit, took out a disposable cotton swab with povidone-iodine, and said with a smile, “That’s my fault then, I bought it, it’s specifically for opening envelopes.”
“So it’s a paper knife,” Fu Jing watched her treat her wound and then apply a Band-Aid with a bear print, saying cheerfully, “No wonder it was quite sharp.”
“If you had a gun, would you point it at your temple too?” Gu Qingci suddenly spoke.
Her voice was a little cold, and her words inexplicably seemed to carry a sting.
Everyone in the bar froze upon hearing her.
They all looked up, their gazes shifting from Fu Jing to Gu Qingci.
Gu Qingci’s usual image in the bar was very mysterious. Everyone knew she was Tao Xian’s friend and didn’t seem to lack money. She would occasionally come for a drink and leave quickly, or sometimes sit quietly by herself for a while.
Though she seemed unapproachable, she wasn’t haughty or fierce.
On the contrary, a faint smile often graced her lips, and her speech was slow and gentle, seemingly indifferent to everything.
So they had never seen her speak with such a deep tone before.
“…”
“Fu Jing, it’s so late, it’s not safe for you to go back alone,” Tao Xian’s eyes flickered slightly. She suddenly said very naturally, “How about Gu Qingci gives you a ride, alright?”
Everyone in the bar was accustomed to reading expressions and sensing the atmosphere.
After a moment of thought, they all chimed in, saying, “Fu Jing, where do you live?”
“You’re a student, so you should still be living on campus, right?”
“Songjiang University seems quite a distance from here. Hurry and go with Gu Qingci.”
“No, I don’t live on campus anymore…”
Fu Jing had only said half a sentence when she suddenly stopped.
She nervously clutched the seam of her pants, wondering whether she should give her address. Her new home was located right near the bar. A 400-meter walk to the community gate, then another 200 meters to her front door.
Qin Ziqin had warned her not to reveal it, because pursuing someone to this extent would sound exactly like the behavior of a stalker.
“…”
Gu Qingci saw her looking down, her struggle clearly written on her face, and thought she was worried about inconveniencing her. Her lips curved slightly, as if ice were melting, and she finally spoke, “Then come with me, I’ll take you home.”
She took a few long strides forward.
“Okay,” Fu Jing responded a few beats later, jogging to catch up. She paused again at the door, turned around, and waved goodbye to the people inside the bar, saying, “Bye everyone.”
Everyone in the bar couldn’t help but smile, “Bye, Fu Jing.”
“…”
••••
At the bar entrance.
Gu Qingci found her car keys in her bag and unlocked the car. “Where do you live?”
“Cough…” Fu Jing cleared her throat, then visibly shifted her gaze, hesitantly saying, “I live in, uh, Bi Gui Garden.”
A few seconds of silence passed.
Gu Qingci’s lips curved. She turned around, looked at the illuminated residential complex across the intersection, and confirmed, “The Bi Gui Garden right in front of us?”
“…Mm.”
Fu Jing secretly hid her hands behind her back, nervously intertwining them. She wanted to lie and say it was a coincidence, but for some reason, she couldn’t bring herself to speak.
Perhaps she subconsciously felt her lie wouldn’t fool her.
Unexpectedly, Gu Qingci didn’t say much about it.
Fu Jing secretly looked up at her.
Their eyes met.
“…”
Gu Qingci said with amusement, “Well, aren’t we already here?”
She thought to herself, this kid is actually quite safety-conscious.
At least she knows it’s best to live as close as possible when going home late at night.
Fu Jing heard her words and looked dazed. “Oh, then I’ll head back.” She was a little disappointed but very sensibly waved goodbye.
She hadn’t walked many steps when she was called back: “Wait a moment.”
Fu Jing turned around.
She saw Gu Qingci relock her car. She took a few steps forward, put a lollipop, which she pulled from who knows where, into Fu Jing’s hand, and said casually, “Let’s go, I said I’d take you home.”
“…” Fu Jing stared blankly at the candy in her hand. After a few beats, she smiled and followed along, “Why are you giving me candy?”
It had just rained heavily outside. The ground was slightly damp, and a special refreshing scent permeated the air. There were quite a few vehicles traveling at the intersection, and the traffic light’s seconds changed.
Fu Jing’s gaze was fixed on her, completely oblivious to the ground.
Gu Qingci couldn’t help but lightly put her arm around Fu Jing’s waist, guiding her towards herself, “Watch out, be careful not to step on a worm.” She let go in less than two seconds.
But Fu Jing used the leverage to lean closer to her.
She even hummed, sweetly responding, “Okay.”
Her movements were incredibly natural. If someone were watching from afar, they would surely misunderstand and think Gu Qingci had deliberately pulled her into her embrace.
“…”
Even Gu Qingci was momentarily stunned.
After a pause, she glanced sideways at Fu Jing beside her. “Kid, do you like me that much?”
“Mm,” Fu Jing bit her lip. Though shy, she answered without hesitation, “Of course I do.”
“We haven’t spoken many words in total. What do you like about me?”
“…I like the way you look.” Fu Jing frowned, thinking for a long time, but could only give this sincere but unromantic answer.
Gu Qingci seemed not to mind at all and nodded.
They stopped at the crosswalk.
Gu Qingci said, “Remember to watch the traffic lights when you cross the street by yourself too.”
Fu Jing: “…?”
Why was she talking about traffic rules?
Fu Jing was slightly embarrassed and couldn’t help but remind her, “I’m already twenty years old.”
Gu Qingci suddenly showed a hint of a smile and told her, “Fu Jing, I’m nine years older than you. We’re almost two generations apart.”
Her tone was gentle, but the meaning was clear.
“Mm, I remember your age,” Fu Jing nodded in response. “Anything else?”
“…”
Gu Qingci frowned, realizing that Fu Jing seemed to never understand subtle hints.
After a long pause, seeing that she wasn’t speaking, Fu Jing proactively asked, “What’s your bl00d type? Mine’s O.”
Gu Qingci was a little helpless but answered along, “Mine’s O type too.”
“That’s our commonality,” Fu Jing immediately clapped her hands, her tone sincere and enthusiastic, “That’s great! I can donate bl00d for you if anything happens in the future!”
Gu Qingci: “…………”
••••
Unknowingly, they had already reached her building downstairs.
“I live in 901,” Fu Jing still didn’t want to part with her. “Do you want to come up and sit for a bit?”
“It’s late,” Gu Qingci raised her hand and suddenly pinched her cheek, reminding her, “Go home, eat your candy, and go to bed early.”
“…Alright.”
Fu Jing swiped open the private building’s access control, entering with hesitant steps, looking back three times. She was still grinning foolishly in the elevator, her round eyes sparkling with unconcealed excitement.
She actually pinched her cheek, and just now she had even held her waist!
Fu Jing entered her home with light and heavy steps, her heart floating. When she went to the bathroom to wash her hands, she looked up and saw her flushed face in the mirror. She couldn’t help but wash her face with cold water.
She silently thought: *Fu Jing, Fu Jing, you can’t be so pathetic.*
She casually pulled out the lollipop hidden in her pocket, looked at it for a while, then took a picture and sent it to Qin Ziqin, carefully explaining the whole situation, eagerly asking: [She really sees me as a kid?]
Fu Jing added: [But she and I are only nine years apart.]
Fu Jing asked: [Why did she give me candy too?]
The photo also showed a corner of the Band-Aid with a bear print on her palm.
On the other end, Qin Ziqin quickly replied: [She specifically gave it to you and told you to eat it and go to bed early. She might want you to… forget the unpleasantness of cutting your hand tonight, and only remember the sweetness of the candy.]
