Banishment is Fine: As a Genius Saint, I Can Shine Anywhere. - Chapter 2
Chapter 2: Episode 2.2
“No matter how many times you ask, what’s impossible is impossible. Please forgive us.”
“…”
Lionel and Seguin couldn’t help but exchange glances.
They understood the city mayor’s predicament. The city was currently hosting refugees from villages near the border, and the population had swelled beyond the city’s capacity. This had led to a shortage of both water and food.
One could tell how harsh life was just by looking at their appearance. Even the city mayor wore clothes covered in dust, and the children peeking at them from the shadows were poorly dressed. Everyone looked thin and pale.
A quick glance around revealed dried, cracked soil with withered leaves scattered on it. The ground lacked nutrients, so crops couldn’t grow well.
(It’s fortunate enough that they’re letting us take as much water as we need…)
Maybe they should just secure the water and move to a city closer to the center.
But moving further from the border would make it inconvenient to return. Even though the places with Meteora’s talisman were safe, there was no guarantee that monsters wouldn’t invade and attack the city from elsewhere.
(We’re down to half the number of talismans we brought, so we can’t use them recklessly…)
Just as Lionel sighed in frustration.
“City mayor, do you not have any saints or priests stationed here?”
A clear, dignified voice of a girl made Lionel turn around in surprise. There stood Meteora, who had dismounted her horse and was holding her staff.
“Well, yes. Some saints who escaped from the Fifth Regional Temple stayed for a while but left for the center, saying they were too old to help.”
Recalling the event, the city mayor’s face showed obvious disdain.
With so many sick people and barren land, one would naturally feel resentful if those with healing abilities fled to the center without offering any help.
“I take it you’re a saint too.”
His words to Meteora were equally sharp.
The city mayor glared at Meteora, who nodded calmly. “Yes, I am.”
“I’m currently traveling with these knights. They fought bravely against giant monsters at the border. Because of their efforts, the citizens can live in peace. I’m sure you understand that, city mayor.”
“Of course, of course, I do. But providing food is a different matter.”
“I understand your concerns, city mayor. So, how about this: If you could support us with food and some supplies, in return, I will heal all the citizens, bless the land, and place talismans on the city walls?”
Meteora’s proposal made not only the city mayor but also Lionel hold their breath.
