Banishment is Fine: As a Genius Saint, I Can Shine Anywhere. - Chapter 3
The Arrival of the Magic Pigeon:
The enormous bird, known as the Magic Pigeon, had dark feathers and black eyes. Its body shape resembled a pigeon, but its feathers were more like a crow’s.
“Wow! A bird this big really exists?”
“This is my first time seeing one! It’s huge!”
The children shouted in excitement. Meteora held down her hair as the wind blew and explained to them.
“That bird is called a Magic Pigeon. It was originally a type of monster.”
“A monster?!”
The gathered children gasped in shock.
“Yes, about two hundred years ago, humans managed to tame and successfully breed them. It’s the only monster ever domesticated. They’re incredibly strong and can carry loads that even horses can’t, delivering them quickly through the air.”
“Wow, that’s amazing!”
The children’s eyes sparkled with curiosity. While Meteora found their innocent reactions adorable, she also thought to herself, taking care of a Magic Pigeon is a lot of work…
Even though they obeyed humans, Magic Pigeons would only take orders from those they personally liked. Training their sense of direction, just like real pigeons, was another major challenge.
The biggest issue, however, was their diet. Because of their massive size, they required the equivalent of three cows or ten pigs worth of meat per meal. And they needed to be fed twice a day—sometimes three times if they traveled long distances.
That’s why only a limited number could be raised. The one that had just arrived was particularly large, likely used for cross-border deliveries to foreign countries.
Still, it’s rare to see a Magic Pigeon without a rider…
Usually, a knight or handler would accompany them, but this one had flown all the way from the Central Temple on its own without getting lost.
As the Magic Pigeon stopped flapping its wings and settled down, the knights rushed forward to untie the cargo secured to its back.
“We’ve got preserved food, new swords and spears, and even parchment for the Saintess to write protective talismans!”
One of the knights shouted while unloading a crate as large as a wardrobe. Cheers erupted from the others.
“It’s been so long since we got new weapons!”
“The ones we have now are so rusted from monster poison that they’ve basically turned into blunt clubs.”
“Hey, there’s even honey candy in the supplies!”
“Whoa!”
The rare treat of sweets made the knights even more excited.
Meteora approached the crate, gently shooing away the eager children, and peeked inside. She was surprised by the quality of the supplies.
These are quite high-quality goods…
It had been only five or six days since she and Lionel had sent a request for aid to the Central Temple. If a fast carriage traveled non-stop, it would take around five days to reach the capital.
That means someone read our letter, quickly prepared the supplies, and sent them here using the Magic Pigeon…
Back when she was still the Saintess, this level of support wouldn’t have been surprising. But now that she was stationed in a local temple—essentially exiled from the capital—she hadn’t expected such generous aid.
Does this mean the support was more for Lionel’s sake than mine?
Lionel was a reinforced human, possessing extraordinary physical abilities and combat strength.
And besides…
Meteora glanced at Lionel, who stood a little distance away, carefully inspecting the new weapons with a serious expression.
His speech is rough, but I get the feeling he comes from a very refined background…
She recalled their dinner a few days ago. Lionel had sat with perfect posture, never made a sound with his utensils, and ate with remarkable grace.
Many Royal Knights were second or third sons of noble families. Lionel was likely from an aristocratic or similarly well-bred lineage.
