Banishment is Fine: As a Genius Saint, I Can Shine Anywhere. - Chapter 5
“What do you mean, you ‘don’t need it anymore’?”
“Exactly that. I’ve finished analyzing it, so I’m returning it.”
With a mumble, Roadban climbed onto a chair.
His priestly robes were so oversized for his short stature that they dragged on the floor as he moved, making him look rather precarious.
“Analyzed it, huh…? So, what did you find out?”
“That it was not created in this country.”
“What?”
Roadban revealed this fact so nonchalantly that Lionel almost dropped the orb.
“Explain.”
“Exactly what I said. In our kingdom, anything imbued with power falls into two categories—either a holy artifact crafted from materials like the bark of the Divine Tree, or charms imbued with the Grace of the Gods by a priest or Saintess.
But this orb belongs to neither.”
“Then… what the hell is it?”
“If my hypothesis is correct, it was created by a sorcerer.”
Roadban puffed out his chest as he declared this.
“A sorcerer?”
“You mean… from Durandix?”
Even Chuli’s eyes widened in shock as she exchanged glances with Lionel.
“So you’re saying this orb is a sorcerer-made artifact?”
“Rather than a holy artifact, I’d call it a cursed tool.
After all, the monster grew enormous while it had this inside its body, didn’t it?
That kind of magic—manipulating size and form—is a sorcerer’s specialty.
No one in our kingdom could wield such power.”
The old priest, whose life revolved around research, stroked his thick, fluffy beard with a knowing expression.
“But why would a sorcerer enlarge monsters and set them loose in our cities?”
“That’s outside my field of study. You young folks can figure that out yourselves~.”
“Oi, that’s way too much of a cop-out!”
“Lord Roadban is always like this.”
As Lionel protested, Chuli just sighed and shook her head.
“Now that I think about it, you did mention that the priests here are rather… indifferent.”
“Yes.
Lord Roadban isn’t so much indifferent as he just… doesn’t care about anything except research.
And the other priest? He just follows whatever orders come from above.
He’s already quite old and spends most of his time napping.”
“Wow. That’s… not reassuring at all.”
No wonder Chuli was running herself ragged managing everything.
“Hmph! Mocking an elder, are you?
I’ll have you know, I was highly valued as a researcher at the Central Temple!
But they kept piling too much mundane work on me, so I ran off to the countryside.”
“That’s just irresponsible.”
“It’s fine.
My colleague, Boranzon, was an exceptional man.
With him around, the Central Temple runs just fine without me.”
“Boranzon… I’ve heard that name before.
Isn’t he one of the higher-ranked priests at the Central Temple?”
