- Chapter 12 - I Dare Not Lie
Imperial Physician Fang took a deep breath.
It seemed as though he had made some momentous decision before finally speaking under Li Qinghe’s watchful gaze.
“Her-Her Highness the Eldest Princess suffers from an ailment that makes it difficult for her to bear children!”
After uttering these words, Physician Fang’s face turned several shades paler.
He didn’t look like he was lying in the slightest.
Of course, though Li Qinghe harbored some doubts, seeing Physician Fang’s expression as if he were facing imminent doom she ultimately believed his words.
“Is what you say true, Physician Fang?”
Even though she believed he wasn’t deceiving her, she still wanted to hear him confirm it once more.
“I dare not lie.”
Physician Fang lowered his head, his hunched back drenched in cold sweat.
Who would have thought that one day, he a royal physician would be reduced to being threatened and manipulated by two princesses?
And yet, he could not resist.
“The Eldest Princess has long taken medications to control her mental state. The toxins have already seeped deep into her bones, affecting every function of her body. Even if she wished to, she would lack the strength.”
Dark clouds churned in the depths of Li Qinghe’s eyes.
Though Physician Fang’s words brought her a sense of vindication and joy,
she dared not let her guard down even slightly.
“Physician Fang.”
She paused for a few seconds before continuing, “Do you still have the antidote for the Soul Devouring Poison?”
“Hand it over.”
The Soul Devouring Poison required a specific incense to activate its full effects.
But there was no guarantee something wouldn’t go wrong.
Only by keeping the antidote in her own hands could she truly feel at ease.
Coincidentally, the poison also had aphrodisiac properties. She wanted to see for herself whether her dear elder sister truly lacked the strength, as Physician Fang had claimed.
Without the slightest hesitation, Physician Fang immediately retrieved the antidote from his robes.
–
After parting ways at the pavilion, Jun He soon sensed something amiss with his body behind the rock garden.
Not only he, but even his trusted aide, Chang Jian, noticed it.
“Your Highness, what’s wrong?”
Chang Jian hurriedly reached out to steady him.
Jun He’s eyes suddenly turned an unnatural shade of crimson, the corners glistening with moisture.
“Despicable!”
The veins on his fair hands bulged, a clear sign of his struggle to restrain himself.
Chang Jian looked utterly bewildered.
Under the influence of the drug, Jun He soon revealed his true form.
The massive white serpent thrashed wildly behind the rock garden, its movements shaking the surrounding flora and terrain.
Li Xuanyue, who had yet to rise from the pavilion not far away, naturally sensed the disturbance.
Her brows furrowed slightly.
“Your Highness, it’s terrible Consort Jun is in heat!”
A maidservant came running from behind the rock garden, her face frantic as she knelt before Li Xuanyue to report.
The commotion behind the rock garden continued.
Li Xuanyue did not stand idly by. Moving swiftly, she and Yin Xin soon arrived at the scene.
Under the influence of the Soul Devouring Poison, Consort Jun had already lost all reason. His enormous serpent form lashed about with earth-shaking force, making it impossible for anyone to approach recklessly.
“Your Highness.”
Seeing Li Xuanyue’s arrival, Chang Jian seemed to find his anchor and quickly bowed to her.
But at this moment, Li Xuanyue had no mind to acknowledge him.
She retrieved a pill from her sleeve. Just as Jun Shijun raised his serpentine head and lunged at her with his fangs bared, she deftly flicked the pill from her fingers straight into his gaping maw.
Three, two, one.
In less than a minute, the white serpent that had been soaring through the garden crashed to the ground with a thunderous “boom.”
“Your Highness! Your Highness!”
Chang Jian rushed forward in alarm, calling out frantically.
In the blink of an eye, Jun Shijun’s serpent form shimmered and reverted to his human shape. His face remained flushed a deep crimson.
“No need for concern.”
Li Xuanyue gazed down imperiously at Chang Jian, then at Jun He, who had just collapsed into unconsciousness. Her voice was measured, deliberately ambiguous.
“He’ll be fine after some rest.”
Chang Jian, missing the subtext of her words, glanced back at her and clasped his fists in gratitude. “Many thanks, Your Highness.”
“Don’t thank me yet.”
Li Xuanyue brushed aside his gratitude and continued coolly, “First, carry him to my Fenghe Palace.”
“This…”
Chang Jian hesitated, his expression troubled.
Li Xuanyue paid no heed to his reservations. “What? Did you not hear my command?” Her voice turned icy. “Or would you prefer he die here?”
Shock flashed in Chang Jian’s eyes.
“He’s been poisoned with Soul-Devouring Elixir, forcibly sent into heat, and forced to reveal his true form,” Li Xuanyue explained. “Without immediate treatment, the drug will drive him into repeated frenzies until his body withers away.”
The pill she had administered was merely a sedative to knock him out. Though Imperial Physician Fang had already provided the antidote, she hadn’t brought it with her partly to avoid suspicion, and partly because the rear garden was swarming with prying eyes, including spies planted by Li Qinghe.
To administer the antidote, she needed to bring Jun He back to her own territory. There was no room for exposure in front of the crowd.
–
“Awake?”
Jun He’s eyes were still tinged with red as he roused, his mind in disarray. Yet the moment his gaze landed on Li Xuanyue standing nearby, wariness flared in his pupils.
“Relax.”
Li Xuanyue noted his guardedness but remained unperturbed. “I won’t harm you.”
She casually swept her robes aside and took a seat nearby.
Jun He wasn’t convinced.
“You were dosed with Soul-Devouring Elixir!”
A sneer flickered across his face, as if to say, Wasn’t it you who poisoned me? Spare me the hypocrisy.
Had this been the Li Xuanyue of her past life, such ingratitude would have enraged her.
But now, approaching things differently, she could understand why Jun Shijun distrusted her.
Who among the Hundred Clans didn’t know of her cruelty and lust? No man she desired had ever escaped her grasp. Were it not for her sporadic bouts of madness, the number of consorts and attendants in her palace would far exceed a mere dozen likely countless by now.
“Though I didn’t administer the poison, your predicament stems from me.”
She made no attempt to defend herself, simply stating the facts plainly.
“Of course, I know you don’t believe me.”
Li Xuanyue hadn’t expected his immediate trust anyway.
After all, she was well aware of how terrible her reputation had become.
“But it doesn’t matter. Tonight, this princess will rest in your chambers.”
Junhe’s eyes immediately widened, her pretty face flushing crimson in response.
