“No, Your Highness.”
Wen Shijun’s face turned deathly pale as he shook his head frantically.
He never imagined things would escalate to this point.
He had merely acted out of goodwill, wanting to help Princess Qinghe seek justice.
Who would have thought that not only would justice remain elusive, but he would also be falsely accused by Li Xuanyue in return?
The frustration in his heart was nearly unbearable.
“Guards.”
Li Xuanyue paid no heed to Wen Shijun’s distress and directly called for the guards outside the hall.
“Wen Shijun has violated etiquette and offended both this princess and Lang Shijun. From today onward, he is banished from the Phoenix Clan and forbidden to return.”
“Your Highness!”
Wen Shijun’s eyes widened in disbelief.
He struggled to say something in his defense, but the two guards beside him gave him no chance.
They immediately dragged him out.
“Your Highness, it’s terrible Wen Shijun has been expelled from the Phoenix Clan!”
In Chaoren Hall, Ruyue hurriedly relayed the news she had just gathered to Li Qinghe, her eyes filled with worry.
“I heard it was the Grand Princess herself who gave the order, claiming Wen Shijun violated etiquette and offended both her and Lang Shijun.”
Li Qinghe’s expression darkened. “Outrageous!”
Enraged, she slammed her palm onto the desk with such force that the teacup and its contents overturned, spilling everywhere.
Ruyue glanced at Li Qinghe’s furious face and cautiously said, “Your Highness, could it be that the Grand Princess discovered Wen Shijun was our ally and used this as an excuse to remove him?”
This suspicion grew stronger in Ruyue’s mind.
Otherwise, why would Princess Xuanyue, who had been fine all along, suddenly decide to dismiss the palace’s shijun and attendants?
Not only that, but she had even exiled her favorite, Lin Shijun, to their Chaoren Hall.
“Does it matter if she knows or not?”
Li Qinghe’s icy eyes gleamed with bloodthirsty killing intent. “Given her current condition, she likely won’t last another six months before meeting her end. Do you think I fear her?”
Since she dared to scheme, she wasn’t afraid of being discovered.
Sooner or later, they would all tear off the pretense it was only a matter of time.
“How is Father’s condition now?”
Three years had passed since Li Qinghe and Noble Consort Zhao were released from the cold palace of Taihe Hall.
Yet, Noble Consort Zhao’s mental state had shown no signs of improvement.
At first, Li Qinghe had assumed it was due to the drastic fall from grace that her father couldn’t accept, leading to his breakdown.
But now, three years had passed since they left the cold palace.
Under the careful care of numerous attendants and herself, he should have recovered by now.
Yet, Noble Consort Zhao remained in a dazed and confused state.
This was something she could not tolerate.
Ruyue lowered her head. “The Noble Consort is doing well. Yesterday, he was still talking about preparing delicious food for Your Highness.”
Li Qinghe frowned. “Warn the servants to take good care of Father. No negligence is allowed. I will visit Yuehe Hall to see him in a few days.”
“Yes!”
Naturally, Ruyue wouldn’t dare disobey Li Qinghe’s orders.
“Your Highness, what should we do about the Grand Princess now?”
Most of the pawns they had planted around Princess Xuanyue had already been eliminated by her.
If this continued, they would truly be doomed.
Li Qinghe took a deep breath and asked, “What did Imperial Physician Fang say today?”
During the three months of seclusion for self-reflection, Li Qinghe never forgot to have Ruyue invite Imperial Physician Fang to gather information about the situation in Fenghuo Palace.
This was her most important chess piece.
More importantly, he was the key to delivering a fatal blow to Li Xuanyue absolutely no mistakes could be allowed.
Otherwise, all her carefully laid plans would be in vain.
Recalling Imperial Physician Fang’s words earlier that day, Ruyue spoke softly, “Physician Fang said the Grand Princess can still speak now only because of the various ginseng and snow lotus herbs from her clan sustaining her. But this isn’t a permanent solution. Over time, her body will develop immunity to these remedies, and death is inevitable.”
At this point, Ruyue paused, glancing at Li Qinghe’s expressionless face before continuing, “Your Highness, should we administer a stronger dose to the Grand Princess now?”
To avoid complications, Ruyue thought it better to send the Grand Princess to her demise sooner rather than later, sparing them constant anxiety.
“No need!” Li Qinghe raised her hand to stop the suggestion.
Having waited this long, another half year made little difference. Besides, there was no guarantee Li Xuanyue would even survive that long. Why dirty her own hands at this critical juncture?
“Let her cling to life for another six months.”
In half a year, she would personally stand before Li Xuanyue to send her off how satisfying would that be?
Had Li Xuanyue known of Li Qinghe’s current scheming, she would have openly called her foolish to her face.
Yet it was precisely Li Qinghe’s overconfidence that gave Li Xuanyue this breathing room.
“Your Highness, while the poison in your system is temporarily contained, one final medicinal catalyst is required for complete eradication,” Physician Liu stated gravely within Fenghuo Palace.
Clad in white robes with his silver hair meticulously tied back, the immortal like physician appeared extremely rigid.
Having spoken so plainly, Li Xuanyue understood perfectly this catalyst must be exceptionally rare or difficult to obtain, hence Physician Liu’s hesitation.
“What catalyst?”
Having resolved to cure her madness and purge the toxins completely, Li Xuanyue was prepared to spare no effort in acquiring any ingredient, regardless of difficulty.
Yinxin’s eyes brightened. “Isn’t this simple? Among Your Highness’s consorts is a Crane clansman. Can’t he simply offer his vermilion crown?”
She interrupted bluntly, “Wouldn’t that suffice?”
Physician Liu glanced at Yinxin with an expression that seemed to say, ‘Do you take me for a fool?’
No Crane clansman would willingly surrender their vermilion crown the lifeblood and defining mark of their people, possessed only by adults and strictly protected.
“Physician Liu, was there more you wished to say?”
Noticing the physician’s stiff expression, Li Xuanyue gestured for him to continue what Yinxin had interrupted.
Divine Physician Liu nodded, “Although the red crown is extremely easy to obtain, getting the other party to willingly offer it is truly difficult.”
“What I mean to say is that this red crown cannot be obtained by simply sending someone to seize it. It must be given willingly for the medicine to achieve its full potency.”
