- Chapter 27 - Even Tigers Doze Off
A flicker of excitement crossed Physician Fang’s face. “Thank you, Princess.”
“Alright, since it’s still early, hurry home and pack your things,” Li Xuanyue urged, glancing at the sky.
Now that his cover was blown, it was no longer safe for him to linger under their noses. For the time being, she needed to find him a hiding place where he could survive.
He couldn’t die not like this.
Meanwhile, back at Chaoren Palace, Li Qinghe erupted into a violent rage the moment she returned.
Pearl necklaces, colorful glass ornaments, and even the golden vanity were all smashed to pieces under her fury. Yet, even this destruction failed to quell her anger.
Her gaze toward Ruyue was as sharp as if she were staring at her father’s murderer dark, terrifying, and so intense that Ruyue nearly recoiled.
Never in all her years serving Li Qinghe had Ruyue seen her lose control like this. Even when plans failed, Li Qinghe would usually dismiss them with cold indifference.
But today, Ruyue sensed the gravity of the situation.
Her heart pounded with unease.
“Princess are you alright?” Ruyue ventured cautiously. “Shall I fetch you some tea?”
Perhaps a drink would calm her rage?
Li Qinghe’s expression twisted with turmoil. The fire inside her refused to die down, and for once, she didn’t bother restraining her emotions in front of Ruyue.
Instead, she let them spiral.
She was done hiding.
“Do I look hideous right now? Monstrous?” she asked, her voice low and hoarse with barely contained madness.
Even without a mirror, she could see her own reflection in Ruyue’s dark eyes wild, disheveled, her golden hairpins askew. None of her usual icy elegance remained.
She looked like a madwoman.
Though fear prickled at her, Ruyue didn’t retreat. Instead, she stepped forward and grasped Li Qinghe’s hand, a silent vow of loyalty.
“Don’t worry, Princess. Even if everyone else betrays you, I never will.”
Ruyue knew exactly what had driven Li Qinghe to this frenzy Physician Fang.
His blatant disregard for Li Qinghe had made her the prime suspect in front of everyone.
No one, not even the proudest noble, could endure such humiliation.
“That old fool Fang Zheng I won’t let him off so easily,” Li Qinghe hissed through gritted teeth.
After all the treasures she had lavished upon him, he had ruined years of meticulous planning.
If she didn’t have him killed, she would never rid herself of this hatred.
“Princess, shall I send our men to eliminate him now?” Ruyue made a swift slashing motion across her throat.
In her eyes, Physician Fang had never been trustworthy.
Yet Li Qinghe had stubbornly clung to her principle of “trust those you employ, employ those you trust.”
And now, that very trust had led to betrayal.
If only they had slit his throat from the start then all their plans wouldn’t have gone to waste.
Li Qinghe sneered coldly, “Do you think my dear elder sister would allow our plans to succeed now?”
Perhaps Physician Fang had already informed her of the reason behind her madness.
In that case, there was no need for any pretense to continue.
“Just send someone to keep constant surveillance.”
Even if her dear elder sister assigned guards to protect Fang Zheng, so what?
Even tigers take naps.
She refused to believe Li Xuanyue’s people never rested.
Ruyue immediately understood Li Qinghe’s intention.
This was about seizing the opportunity to abduct the person when their guard was down.
One had to admit this arrangement was indeed the best.

The next day, the five clans finally arrived safely at the Phoenix Clan.
When Li Xuanyue arrived with Yinxin, Li Feng was already hosting in the grand hall.
“Your daughter greets the Empress.”
Li Feng’s smiling face immediately became more restrained.
“Rise.”
To maintain the dignity befitting a clan ruler, Li Feng appeared extremely aloof and noble.
“This must be Princess Xuanyue?”
Among the five clans, someone suddenly spoke up, directing their gaze at Li Xuanyue.
This was none other than Shufen, the wife of the Fox Clan’s elder and Langhua’s maternal aunt.
The woman looked at Li Xuanyue like a mother-in-law appraising a son-in-law.
Her eyes had been glued to Li Xuanyue from the moment the princess stepped into the hall, never once looking away.
She kept murmuring praises of “so handsome.”
Her beaming expression made members of the other four clans almost embarrassed to watch.
Was this worth it?
Her own nephew had become a consort of the Phoenix Clan, yet she was grinning like a fool. Anyone unaware might think her nephew was the one marrying a princess.
Only the Fox Clan would act as if they’d gotten some incredible bargain.
The other four clans considered this nothing but humiliation.
Yet they were powerless to resist.
“This humble one is Langhua’s aunt, Shufen.”
Shufen introduced herself cheerfully: “If the princess doesn’t mind, you may call me by name.”
It was clear that Langhua’s aunt Shufen was a straightforward and cheerful woman.
Her introduction was refreshingly direct.
The tail hidden behind her even started swaying happily midair during her self-introduction.
Her fondness for Li Xuanyue was unmistakable.
Hence she showed no restraint in the princess’s presence.
Li Xuanyue rarely encountered such forthright personalities. Faced with Shufen’s enthusiasm, she momentarily froze before smiling and responding.
“Aunt.”
Shufen first stared blankly, then hurriedly answered, “Aye!”
She’d never dreamed Li Xuanyue would address her so respectfully as “aunt” before this crowd.
Given their respective statuses, being called “Madam Shu” would have been appropriate enough.
Yet this term of familial address warmed Shufen’s heart like honey.
“Aunt must be exhausted from the long journey?”
Li Xuanyue said kindly, “After the banquet concludes, Yue’er will have someone escort you to proper accommodations.”
Faced with such warmth, Li Xuanyue found herself unable to respond with coldness.
Her reciprocal kindness nearly made Shufen burst with joy.
“Wonderful, wonderful! The princess is too considerate.”
After exchanging pleasantries, the five consorts soon arrived at the Central Harmony Hall upon being summoned by the guards.
“Your sons greet Her Majesty the Empress!”
The five consorts bowed in unison to Li Feng sitting on the throne above them.
