- Chapter 34 - Everything Comes Naturally
Yusheng was silent for a moment.
“So, what are you planning to do next?”
Surely, he couldn’t remain alone forever?
How pitiful would that be?
“Did he send you to ask me this?”
The “he” Yumian referred to was none other than his elder brother, Yulin.
The two of them were twins.
However, from the moment of his birth, Yulin’s constitution had always been weaker than Yumian’s.
Because of this, the Fisher King and his wife had always paid more attention to their firstborn, Yulin.
As for Yumian, since he had always been healthy, his parents often neglected him.
Until one day, when both brothers fell in love with the same woman Qingyue shattering the peaceful atmosphere between them.
It was because of this woman that Yumian, who had never been intended for a political marriage, chose to leave Dongting Lake and agreed to the unequal alliance with the Phoenix Clan.
“How could that be?”
Yusheng vehemently denied it. “Brother Yulin isn’t that kind of person.”
“Though he and Sister Qingyue feel guilty about what happened, he would never think of sending me to ask you this.”
“It’s just I was worried about you, so I took it upon myself to come and ask.”
Deep down, he truly didn’t want Yumian and Yulin to become enemies.
He wished for them to reconcile.
But right now, both of them were still angry.
How could he be so tactless as to deliberately bring up Yulin in front of Yumian and upset him further?
“Brother Mian, can you please stop being angry with me?”
After a few seconds of hesitation, Yusheng finally spoke up.
He knew he had been wrong about hiding the truth of Yulin and Qingyue’s relationship from Yumian.
But wasn’t there a saying “Forced affection is never sweet”?
Though Yumian had met Qingyue first, love didn’t follow the rule of first come, first served.
Everything had come together naturally.
In Yusheng’s eyes, Yulin and Qingyue were truly meant for each other.
What Yumian felt was more like possessiveness not love.
A cold glint flickered briefly in Yumian’s eyes.
“You traveled all the way to the Phoenix Clan just to seek my forgiveness?”
He raised a brow, sliding a cup of tea toward Yusheng before continuing nonchalantly,
“I forgive you.”
His voice carried an ethereal detachment.
“But from now on, let’s not see each other again.”
Yusheng’s hand, holding the teacup, froze.
Though he had already anticipated that Yumian would push him away,
hearing the words spoken aloud still made his heart ache unbearably.
“Alright.”
Suppressing the sorrow and bitterness inside, he forced a smile one that looked more painful than tears and nodded.
Yumian didn’t respond.
The moment Yusheng had decided to keep Yulin and Qingyue’s secret from him,
any semblance of friendship between them had already ended.
He was merely restoring things to how they had once been.
–
Meanwhile, in the mist shrouded back mountains, the arrival of spring had painted the landscape in lush greenery, adding to the Phoenix Clan’s breathtaking scenery.
Towering peaks and dense forests, veiled in mist, revealed glimpses of emerald hues.
The view was nothing short of awe-inspiring.
At that moment, in the mountain hot springs,
a pair of pale, delicate arms suddenly emerged from the water, clinging tightly to a man’s firm shoulders.
Li Xuanyue gasped for breath, feeling utterly driven to madness.
Hadn’t Lord Jun promised to take her to the hot springs to relax?
Yet here they were, and once again, he had started up.
Did this man even see her as human?
“Don’t sleep,” he coaxed in a low, tempting voice, his slender fingers brushing across her delicate face.
He could see her exhaustion, yet instead of relenting, he only tightened his grip, trapping her firmly against him.
Startled, Li Xuanyue forced her eyes open once more.
She was certain he was doing this on purpose.
Furious, she finally lowered her head and sank her teeth into his neck.
“Mmm.”
The man narrowed his eyes, letting out a muffled groan.
Rather than deterring him, the bite only seemed to spur him on, his Adam’s apple bobbing as his movements grew even more frenzied.
His massive serpent tail thrashed violently in the water, sending loud splashes echoing through the springs.
The force of it shook the surrounding peach trees, scattering petals into the rippling pool.
A quarter of an hour later, Jun He finally noticed the woman in his arms had fallen unconscious.
With elegant fingers, he gently tucked a damp lock of hair behind her ear, revealing her flushed, peach-blossom face in full view.
She looked unbearably tempting.
His throat moved as he swallowed hard, but he quickly shut his eyes, forcing himself to calm the fire raging within him.
Only when the heat had subsided did he finally lift her from the springs and carry her down the mountain toward Junhe Hall.
“Your Highness, look isn’t that the Grand Princess and Lord Jun?”
Meanwhile, Li Qinghe, frustrated by her recent string of failed schemes and betrayals, had decided to take a stroll in the back mountains at Ruyue’s suggestion.
She never expected to witness Jun He carrying Li Xuanyue out of the hot springs as they passed through the peach grove.
Her cold eyes darkened with venomous intensity.
“She really is lucky!”
After all that, she still hadn’t died!
Li Qinghe couldn’t tell whether she felt more jealousy or resentment.
But seeing Li Xuanyue safe and sound made her wish she could tear the woman apart, devouring her flesh and drinking her bl00d.
Ruyue, observing Li Qinghe’s twisted expression, cautiously asked, “Your Highness, should we greet them?”
Though Lord Jun was still some distance away, his long strides would soon bring him face to face with them.
Rather than standing frozen, Ruyue thought it better to keep moving.
Li Qinghe frowned, shooting Ruyue a sharp sidelong glance a clear reprimand for speaking out of turn.
Ruyue immediately lowered her head, chastened.
The Li Qinghe of today was no longer the same as before.
Especially after her recent failures, she had lost all her former composure, becoming increasingly ruthless and unapproachable.
Ruyue no longer dared to speak as freely as she once had.
Yet in the brief moment they exchanged words, Jun He had already closed the distance, Li Xuanyue still cradled in his arms.
His expression showed no surprise at encountering Li Qinghe and her maid only indifference.
“Princess Qinghe.”
With a slight nod of acknowledgment, Jun He made to step past them without pause.
Li Qinghe did not immediately comply with Junhe’s wish. She stepped forward, tilted her head to glance into his arms, and asked knowingly:
“Is sister asleep?”
Though Li Xuanyue’s face was now flushed peach-pink, the exhaustion between her brows could not be concealed.
