- Chapter 35 - Move Aside
Just how wild had things gotten to leave her so utterly exhausted?
Li Qinghe’s teasing gaze suddenly swept over Junhe.
“Lord Jun, you should know my sister’s constitution isn’t strong. If you keep fooling around like this and something happens, what then?”
“When Mother Empress and Father Consort find out, they’ll surely worry.”
Her tone carried an inexplicable hint of schadenfreude as if she couldn’t wait for Li Xuan Yue to be worn to death by him.
Junhe’s indifferent eyes finally settled on Li Qinghe.
“Rather than wasting time lecturing me, Princess Qinghe, why don’t you move aside and let me take Her Highness back to rest?”
His voice was cold and dismissive, devoid of even the slightest respect for her as a princess.
Li Qinghe’s smile froze instantly.
Without giving her a chance to react, Junhe cradled Li Xuan Yue in one arm and shoved past the master-servant pair with a rough bump.
Caught off guard, Li Qinghe staggered from the impact, nearly falling backward.
Had it not been for Ruyue’s quick reflexes disregarding her own safety to rush forward and steady her Junhe’s shove might have sent her sprawling to the ground.
“Bastard!”
Once she regained her composure, Li Qinghe’s face twisted with fury.
Her fingers dug into her palms, and her entire body trembled with rage.
“Princess, don’t be angry,” Ruyue hurriedly soothed. “That Lord Jun is simply ungrateful. Let’s be the bigger people and not stoop to his level.”
“Shut up!”
Li Qinghe now deeply regretted keeping such a foolish maid by her side.
Useless in every way.
She should have sold her off long ago spared herself the aggravation of hearing such idiotic words.
Ruyue flinched at the roar, too terrified to make another sound.
She stood frozen like a quail, motionless.
The sight only stoked Li Qinghe’s fury further.
“Stand right there tonight. Don’t you dare follow me!”
Better that than risk being driven to an early grave by her.
Tears instantly welled up in Ruyue’s eyes.
No!
Her lips parted, but at the sight of Li Qinghe’s stormy retreating figure, she swallowed her protests in resignation.
She couldn’t understand why the princess was punishing her.
She’d done nothing wrong just misspoken a couple of times.
The princess had never treated her like this before.
Without Ruyue trailing behind, Li Qinghe’s rage gradually cooled.
Yet, for the first time without her maid in tow, she felt an odd discomfort.
Pausing mid step, she turned to call Ruyue back only to realize she’d gone too far to even see her.
Let alone summon her.
A flicker of regret crossed Li Qinghe’s eyes.
She shouldn’t have left Ruyue standing there alone.
Now she’d have to go back and fetch her herself.
Just as she was about to retrace her steps, a figure appeared at the edge of the peach grove.
It was none other than Jun Mo, the Second Prince of the Serpent Clan, who had arrived in the Phoenix Clan’s territory days ago as a visiting relative.
Her eyes brightened instantly.
“Greetings, Second Prince.”
Li Qinghe took the initiative to greet Jun Mo, her face displaying a gentle and adorable demeanor.
One might have mistaken them for old acquaintances.
At that time, Jun Mo, who had been recuperating in the palace for several days, felt rather bored and decided to stroll alone through the peach grove of the Phoenix Clan. Suddenly, he heard voices behind him and turned to look.
Li Qinghe’s ethereally cold and aloof face immediately came into view.
A flicker of surprise flashed through Jun Mo’s eyes. “You are…”
Before he could finish speaking, a faint scent of peach blossoms drifted into his nose. The aroma neither repelled nor pleased him, yet it quickly made his entire body grow feverish.
Jun Mo’s expression darkened instantly.
What was happening?
Why was his body suddenly burning up for no reason?
A triumphant glint flashed in Li Qinghe’s eyes. “What’s wrong, Second Prince?”
She feigned concern as she stepped forward to inquire.
However, under the influence of the heat and the drug, Jun Mo’s gaze soon grew hazy and unfocused. Before long, he reached out and seized Li Qinghe’s hand, which had been waving in front of him.
–
The Five Clan visitation was scheduled to last seven days.
Yet, for five consecutive days, Li Xuan Yue had not appeared in the grand hall.
At first, everyone found it somewhat understandable, but as time passed, Li Xuan Yue’s continued absence became a sign of disrespect to the other clans.
“Phoenix, will Princess Xuan Yue still be holed up with that Jun attendant today, refusing to show her face?”
The speaker was the First Lady of the Wolf Clan, Teng Luo, also Yao Guang’s aunt.
Dressed in lavish attire, she had a doll like face and an air of extravagant nobility. Her dark hair was elegantly coiled at the back of her head, and she wore exquisite jade bracelets on her wrists. Sitting there, she exuded nothing but refined grace.
“How many days has it been now?”
Teng Luo’s doll like face scrunched up as she muttered, “Even if that Jun attendant was in heat, he should have stabilized by now.”
“Exactly.”
Lang Hua’s aunt, Shu Fen, also chimed in. “Look at how long my Lang’er has been sitting here on this cold bench with us.”
Suddenly called out, Lang Hua stiffened.
He was perfectly content sitting on the cold bench.
What was his aunt implying?
Li Feng also felt embarrassed this was indeed improper behavior on Li Xuan Yue’s part.
Even if she needed to comfort someone, there had to be limits. How could she not show her face for days on end?
“Ahem!”
She raised a hand to her lips and coughed lightly, masking her awkwardness. “Everyone, please remain calm. Yue’er will be here shortly.”
Li Feng had anticipated this situation.
Before the banquet began, she had already sent someone to Jun He Palace to notify her.
Barring any mishaps, she should arrive soon.
With Li Feng’s reassurance, the two grumbling women finally settled down.
Meanwhile, Lang Hua felt his dignity crumbling.
“Aunt, what nonsense are you spouting?”
He lowered his head and tugged lightly at Shu Fen’s sleeve, whispering, “Whom the princess favors or chooses to dote on is her own business. Please don’t stir up trouble here, alright?”
He would be more than happy if Li Xuan Yue never sought him out.
That way, once the three years were up, he could leave without a second thought.
Shufen glared at him in displeasure. “What do you know, you brat? The princess is of noble birth. If you don’t act quickly, you won’t even get to eat sh1t while it’s still warm.”
Langhua: “…”
Just as Lifeng had predicted, Lixuanyue soon appeared before the crowd.
Unexpectedly, she was accompanied by Junhe.
Judging by his composed demeanor, it was clear the desires within him were well controlled.
In contrast, Lixuanyue’s complexion seemed slightly worse.
Fortunately, over the past few days, a steady stream of tonics had been nourishing her body.
She wasn’t in terrible shape just a bit lacking in energy, though it wasn’t a major issue.
“Your daughter greets the Empress Mother.”
Both Lixuanyue and Junhe bowed to Lifeng, who sat on the throne.
Seeing this, Lifeng smiled so widely her eyes nearly turned into slits.
“Good, good, good. Don’t just stand there take your seats.”
Over the past few days, Lifeng had heard from many maids that Lixuanyue and Junhe were harmoniously intimate in Junhe’s palace.
She believed it wouldn’t be long before the Phoenix Clan had joyous news.
However, no sooner had Lixuanyue and Junhe taken their seats than Liqinghe entered the hall with Ruyue in tow.
This was somewhat unexpected.
After all, the Five Clans’ visitation had little to do with Liqinghe it was Lixuanyue who needed to be present.
Her arrival at this moment displeased Lifeng.
“Your daughter greets the Empress Mother.”
Liqinghe paid no heed to Lifeng’s displeased expression and bowed as usual.
“Have you come for a reason?”
Lifeng cut straight to the point.
She neither invited Liqinghe to sit nor indicated she should stay.
Despite the awkwardness, Liqinghe remained unfazed and continued.
“Empress Mother, I beseech you to arrange a marriage for me.”
Her words were like a pebble tossed into water, sending ripples through the hall.
Everyone turned to stare at her in shock.
Even Lixuanyue, seated nearby, furrowed her brows at Liqinghe’s request.
What was she scheming now?
Or what was she trying to do?
Lifeng didn’t respond immediately. Instead, she studied Liqinghe intently for several seconds.
