- Chapter 46 - Look Who It Is
Zhaochuan’s audacity was indeed somewhat unexpected.
Even after learning that Yaoguang held the same position as him as a royal consort, he still dared to commit such a vicious act against him.
If the other party had no status, wouldn’t he have been casually executed at Zhaochuan’s whim?
Just the thought of it sent chills down one’s spine.
“Consort Zhao, do you realize what you’ve done?”
Hezhao asked through gritted teeth, clearly enraged by Zhaochuan’s actions.
Yaoguang had never suffered such humiliation among the Wolf Clan.
He had always been well cared for by everyone.
Even after coming to the Phoenix Clan and marrying Li Xuanyue, the dowry sent with him was filled with countless treasures all to ensure he wouldn’t be mistreated here.
Yet now, under Hezhao’s watch, Yaoguang, the Fourth Young Master, had been pushed into the lake by Zhaochuan.
Hezhao was consumed with guilt, wishing he could kill Zhaochuan on the spot to vent Yaoguang’s fury.
Zhaochuan raised an eyebrow. “Why are you being so aggressive?”
He didn’t take Hezhao’s anger seriously at all. Instead, he deliberately flicked his sleeve with an affected gesture.
“Your consort was the one who lost his footing and fell into the lake. Why are you questioning me?”
“Are you seriously blaming me just because your consort couldn’t stand properly?”
Zhaochuan felt immensely pleased seeing Yaoguang pushed into the lake.
Who asked the other man to keep looking down on him with that arrogant expression?
He wanted to humiliate him to see if he’d still dare to act so high and mighty in front of him.
“You’re lying!”
Hezhao immediately stood up and retorted without hesitation, “I clearly saw you push my young master just now. That’s why he fell into the lake!”
Otherwise, how could their young master have fallen from the wooden walkway for no reason?
“Hmph, where’s your proof?”
Zhaochuan looked down at Hezhao with a haughty expression.
“Without evidence, you think you can pin this on me just by flapping your lips? How ridiculous!”
Zhaochuan spoke so boldly because he was certain no one else was around.
That was why he had dared to act so ruthlessly against Yaoguang.
Little did he know that Li Xuanyue, hiding not far away, had witnessed everything that had just happened.
But that was a matter for later.
For now, Hezhao was seething at Zhaochuan’s words.
He knew this Consort Zhao dared to act so brazenly precisely because he thought no one was watching.
That was why he had been so unrestrained.
But that didn’t mean Hezhao would let him bully their young master without consequence.
“Ha!”
Hezhao sneered. “In that case, don’t expect to walk away unscathed either.”
Clenching his fists, he stepped toward Zhaochuan one deliberate stride at a time.
A flicker of panic crossed Zhaochuan’s face. “Y-you what do you think you’re doing?”
As he spoke, his gaze darted toward Yaoguang.
Seeing the other man sitting there calmly, as if nothing had happened, Zhaochuan’s heart began to pound with growing dread.
“Don’t you dare act recklessly! I’m Princess Xuanyue’s consort!”
He kept emphasizing this to Hezhao, hoping to make him back down.
But Hezhao couldn’t care less.
Who asked him to bully their young master?
He didn’t care whose consort he was anyone who harmed their young master deserved punishment.
Zhaochuan’s heart hammered violently in his chest.
“What are you all standing around for? Come help me!”
Seeing the other party was dead set on teaching him a lesson, he hastily called for the guards accompanying him, hoping they would quickly step in to stop this madman from laying hands on him.
But to his shock, before his attendants could even approach, a single glare from the man froze them in their tracks.
Zhaochuan realized then that he was truly done for.
Beads of sweat trickled down his forehead.
“Y-you stay back!” he stammered, his earlier arrogance completely gone.
The man had no intention of listening.
With a smug smirk, he raised an eyebrow at Zhaochuan.
“Let’s see who dares to help you now!”
No sooner had the words left his mouth than his fist was already flying toward Zhaochuan’s face.
“Ah!”
Zhaochuan let out a pained cry. He never expected his attendants to be so useless watching him get beaten without daring to intervene.
For a while, the peach grove echoed with his screams.
Lixuanyue watched the scene unfold but made no move to stop it.
Beside her, however, Yinxin was thoroughly enjoying the spectacle, cheering loudly in her ear.
“That’s right! Beat him good!”
She had seen clearly how Yaoguang had been pushed into the lake by Zhaochuan. She had thought the princess would immediately step in to defend him but she hadn’t.
The injustice of Yaoguang being bullied had been gnawing at her. Now, seeing Zhaochuan get his due, she felt a deep satisfaction.
She just wondered what the princess would do next.
As she watched, Yinxin kept glancing at Lixuanyue, hoping she wouldn’t soften at Zhaochuan’s words later and turn against Yaoguang.
“Yaoguang! I’m going to report you!”
In less than half an hour, Zhaochuan’s face was swollen beyond recognition. If not for the faint trace of allure still lingering in his eyes, no one would have recognized him as the once-graceful Zhaochuan.
“I’m a consort of Princess Xuanyue! How dare you let your lackey treat me like this!”
Zhaochuan was seething with humiliation. Never in all his time among the Phoenix Clan had he suffered such disgrace.
Today, in front of Yaoguang, he had lost all face.
There was no way he would let this slide.
“Just you wait! I’ll go straight to the princess and have her judge this!”
He stood up, dusted himself off, and turned to leave only to be stopped by Yaoguang’s voice.
“No need for the trouble.”
Zhaochuan frowned, confused, but Yaoguang ignored him, simply pointing into the distance.
“Look who’s there.”
His deep voice carried an unshakable calm.
Though furious, Zhaochuan followed his gesture and froze.
A figure in peach pink robes stepped slowly from behind a peach tree.
Zhaochuan’s heart nearly stopped.
The sudden appearance of Lixuanyue nearly sent him to his knees.
Her willow leaf brows slightly furrowed, Lixuanyue hadn’t expected Yaoguang to notice her so quickly.
There was no point hiding now.
With a sigh, she stepped fully into view.
Yin Xin followed respectfully by Xuan Yue’s side with a deferential expression.
“Greetings, Your Highness.”
Prompted by Yaoguang’s voice, Zhaochuan finally snapped out of his daze and hurriedly raised his hand in salute.
“Greetings, Your Highness!”
His voice carried a hint of nervousness.
All traces of his previous arrogance and fury had completely vanished.
Xuan Yue slightly furrowed her brows, her gaze lingering on Zhaochuan for a second before shifting to Yaoguang.
“We’ll talk later. You should go change your clothes first.”
Walking around in such soaking wet garments would surely lead to catching a chill.
