Beast World: The Crazy Female Is Chased by Five Beast Husbands - Chapter 5
All the beast clans within the Hundred Tribes knew how fiercely Li Feng doted on her daughter, Li Xuanyue.
This was precisely why Li Xuanyue had grown increasingly arrogant within the Phoenix Clan, looking down on everyone.
But that didn’t mean she could disrespect the Five Clans on her wedding night.
Those sent for the political marriages were either princes or young masters from elder families.
For Li Xuanyue to act so bloodthirsty and cruel wasn’t that the same as spitting in their faces?
“Did Princess Xuanyue really harm them last night?”
The envoys of the Five Clans naturally weren’t referring to just anyone.
They meant the very princes and young masters they had personally sent for the marriage alliance.
If this were true, they would immediately return to their clans and report to their rulers.
Then, they would join forces to demand an explanation from the Phoenix Clan.
They couldn’t just let their people die in the Phoenix Clan for no reason.
To them, this would be a grave insult.
Li Feng frowned.
She had already explained everything clearly to them.
The rumors from last night were nothing but baseless gossip.
Why were these old fools so stubborn?
Did they really need her daughter to step forward and slap them in the face?
“Phoenix Sovereign, we demand to see the five consorts.”
“Phoenix Sovereign, we demand to see the five consorts.”
Seeing Li Feng’s irritated expression, the five envoys assumed their suspicions were confirmed and knelt before her in unison.
Li Feng was beyond frustrated.
Just as she was about to say that Li Xuanyue would soon arrive with the five consorts.
A clear voice suddenly rang out from outside the hall.
“My apologies for worrying the envoys.”
Hearing the voice, the five kneeling envoys looked up in surprise toward the entrance.
Dressed in a magnificent red phoenix robe, Li Xuanyue slowly entered the hall with the five consorts in tow, under the gaze of the crowd.
Her fair complexion was radiant like a blooming flower, and the five consorts beside her each had their own striking charm. Together, they looked like a divine pair, a feast for the eyes.
“Your daughter greets the Phoenix Sovereign.”
While addressing the envoys, Li Xuanyue didn’t forget to bow to Li Feng, who sat at the head of the hall.
The consorts followed suit, bending at the waist.
“Good, good. Rise, all of you.”
Looking at her five sons-in-law, Li Feng couldn’t contain her joy.
The frustration weighing on her moments ago vanished the instant she saw Li Xuanyue.
“Envoys, do you now believe what I said earlier?”
Everyone could clearly sense Li Feng’s improved mood as she spoke.
None of her earlier irritation remained.
“Rise.”
The five envoys, still kneeling, wore expressions of embarrassment.
Under Li Feng’s gaze, they finally stood.
They then carefully examined the princes and young masters they had sent, relieved to see them unharmed and without a single injury.
But Li Xuanyue’s notorious reputation as a madwoman couldn’t be ignored.
The envoys couldn’t possibly let their guard down completely.
“Phoenix Sovereign, while this may be a misunderstanding, we’ve all heard the rumors about Princess Xuanyue’s treatment of her consorts.”
“This marriage alliance was meant to foster goodwill among the Five Clans. We ask that the princess pledge before us today to treat them well henceforth.”
They had no intention of sending wave after wave of princes and young masters to the Phoenix Clan.
The envoys from the five clans spoke with clear contempt for the Phoenix Clan’s imperial authority.
In her previous life, Li Xuanyue would have flown into a rage at such words.
But after all she’d experienced, she now understood their perspective.
“Very well.”
Li Xuanyue agreed without hesitation, which surprised even Li Feng who sat on the throne above.
“I promise you that from now on, I will treat them with kindness. Should I fail to do so, may I die a miserable death.”
The five consorts were equally shocked by Li Xuanyue’s vow. Never in their wildest dreams had they imagined this lofty Phoenix Princess would make such a pledge to them directly.
Yet they believed this was merely superficial politeness. Once the envoys departed, Li Xuanyue would likely soon reveal her true colors.
–
“Second Princess, Consort Lin has arrived.”
Meanwhile, at Chaoren Hall, the failure of last night’s scheme had left Li Qinghe restless. As she mentally reviewed potential suspects, Ruyue hurried in.
A flicker of displeasure crossed Li Qinghe’s eyes. What was he doing here at this time? Her brows furrowed with impatience.
“Lin Yue pays respects to the Second Princess.”
Soon, a tall, elegant man in exquisite blue robes stood before her, bowing gracefully. His refined movements carried an indescribable sophistication.
“Didn’t I say not to come unless absolutely necessary?” Li Qinghe masked her irritation with a calm tone. “What’s so urgent? Were you seen?”
After all, Lin Yue was technically Li Xuanyue’s consort. If anyone noticed him visiting privately, it could damage her reputation.
Unaware of her thoughts, Lin Yue appeared genuinely concerned. “This servant heard Her Highness Qinghe was ordered by the Phoenix Emperor to reflect in Chaoren Hall for three months. I couldn’t rest without seeing you myself.”
“Are you unharmed, Princess Qinghe?” he asked carefully.
He owed his life to Li Qinghe. Had she not intervened when she did, he would have perished under Li Xuanyue’s cruelty. The news of her confinement had tormented him she was his lifeline, and seeing her treated this way pained him deeply.
Though Li Qinghe didn’t need his concern, the irony of Li Xuanyue’s favorite consort worrying about her while her own sister remained cold soothed her somewhat.
“I’m perfectly fine. Three months’ seclusion in my own palace is hardly consequential.” She dismissed it lightly, more preoccupied with uncovering who had thwarted her scheme.
She refused to believe Li Xuanyue hadn’t consumed the lotus porridge countless witnesses had seen her drink it. Yet somehow, she’d emerged unscathed. Had she taken some antidote beforehand?
Her eyes darkened sharply. “While serving my sister recently, have you noticed anything unusual? Any revealing remarks?”
Otherwise, how could she have escaped this calamity?
Lin Yue was momentarily stunned, not expecting Li Qinghe’s thoughts to jump so quickly.
Yet he didn’t doubt Li Qinghe’s words in the slightest.
Instead, he lowered his head and carefully recalled, “No, the Eldest Princess has been speaking no differently than usual these days. Second Princess, are you suspecting the Eldest Princess framed you?”
From what he knew of the Eldest Princess, she didn’t seem like someone capable of such scheming.
Could there be some misunderstanding in this matter?
