- Chapter 9 - Alerting the Enemy
“Princess, would you like to summon some consorts to attend you tonight?” Yin Xin cautiously inquired.
Ever since the wedding night was interrupted by rumors of Li Xuanyue’s madness and killing spree, the consorts had remained untouched.
Yin Xin worried that the consorts might harbor ill feelings toward Li Xuanyue.
After a brief hesitation, Li Xuanyue waved her hand in refusal.
“No need. Go and summon Physician Fang for me. Tell him I’m feeling unwell and require immediate consultation.”
Though puzzled, Yin Xin obeyed and hurried off to fetch Physician Fang.

“So Princess Xuanyue refused to summon any consorts for the night and instead sent her maid to fetch Physician Fang?”
Lang Hua couldn’t hide his surprise upon hearing this news from his trusted aide.
What was she up to?
He lowered his brows in thought.
Was she truly unwell?
But his instincts told him there was more to this than met the eye.
“My lord, should we continue to keep watch?”
Though Princess Xuanyue’s actions differed from the rumors, something told him she wasn’t to be trifled with.
“No need to alert the enemy further.”
After a moment’s consideration, Lang Hua made his decision. “Recall all our men.”
Since the princess wasn’t in a hurry to summon her consorts, they would wait and see what she was truly plotting.
The other consorts shared Lang Hua’s sentiments, adopting a wait-and-see approach.
Meanwhile, Physician Fang, summoned by Yin Xin, stood nervously in Phoenix Harmony Hall, wiping sweat from his brow.
“Well, Physician Fang, how is my health?”
Li Xuanyue’s icy gaze swept over him, sending chills down his spine.
With trembling hands, he withdrew from her pulse and bowed deeply. “Your Highness, your health is excellent. All is well.”
Clink.
The teacup rattled against the table as Li Xuanyue set it down with deliberate force.
Physician Fang immediately dropped to his knees.
“Princess!”
“Physician Fang, you dare deceive even me?”
Her piercing glare pinned him like a dagger.
The physician’s face paled. “I wouldn’t dare! Please forgive me, Your Highness!”
“Hmph. So even now, you persist in lying to me?”
Ignoring his ashen expression, Li Xuanyue signaled Yin Xin to present the evidence—letters and silver notes she had prepared earlier.
At first confused, Physician Fang’s entire body began to tremble like sand in an hourglass when he saw them.
Then he collapsed to the floor.
“Mercy, Princess! Have mercy!”
Imperial Physician Fang, though unclear how Princess Li Xianyue had obtained those secret correspondences between him and the Second Princess,
realized she must have uncovered the plot of poisoning.
If she knew about this, she likely knew everything else too.
He knew it was all over.
Yet he continued kneeling on the ground, kowtowing frantically to Li Xianyue with loud “thuds.”
“Imperial Physician Fang, you’ve served the Phoenix Clan for ten years.”
Li Xianyue’s calm, measured voice echoed through the hall.
“In these ten years, has my father or I ever mistreated you?”
“Yet for your own selfish gains, you conspired with my dear sister to poison me. Do you truly not fear that I might have the Empress decree the execution of your entire family?”
“This humble official admits his wrongs, admits his wrongs!”
Imperial Physician Fang trembled violently at her tone, as if his body might collapse from fear. “I beg Your Highness for mercy spare my wife, children, and elderly parents!”
Those who held the title of princess were never known for leniency.
Li Xianyue was no exception.
She would never spare him just because of a few pleas for mercy.
“If you wish for my forgiveness, it’s simple.”
Li Xianyue’s gaze bore straight into him. “Tell me everything you know, and I will let bygones be bygones.”
Imperial Physician Fang was merely one of Li Qinghe’s many pawns.
What she had done, what she had said he must know it all.
Only by his confession could Li Xianyue send people to gather evidence one by one.
And uproot some of the pawns Li Qinghe had planted around her.
With no other choice, Imperial Physician Fang, for the sake of his family and his own life, revealed everything he knew in front of Li Xianyue.
“Your Highness, shall this servant send someone to deal with Imperial Physician Fang?”
Watching the physician hastily retreat from the hall until he disappeared from sight, Yinxin finally couldn’t hold back her question.
She never imagined Imperial Physician Fang had long been colluding with the Second Princess.
And had secretly been administering mind altering drugs to the First Princess for two whole years.
To say Yinxin wasn’t shocked and furious would be a lie.
“Do you think killing Imperial Physician Fang will make the poison in my body vanish?”
Li Xianyue countered. “Don’t be naive, Yinxin.”
“Now that we’ve confirmed he is one of Li Qinghe’s people,”
“if I act against him now, wouldn’t Li Qinghe find out everything?”
Knowing Li Qinghe’s nature, if she learned Imperial Physician Fang had confessed everything to her,
she would never let him live to become evidence.
Yinxin frowned. “Then we just let it go?”
Wouldn’t that be letting Imperial Physician Fang off too easily?
Li Xianyue lowered her eyes. “At dawn tomorrow, summon all the consorts. Tell them I have words for them.”
As for what those words would be, no one dared to guess.
Thus, the next morning, as soon as day broke, all the consorts and attendants in the palace were gathered by Yinxin in the Phoenix Harmony Hall.
Originally, Li Xianyue’s palace had eight consorts. Including those sent by the five clans, there were thirteen in total. Apart from Lin Yue, whom Li Qinghe had taken away, twelve remained.
Three attendants.
Each had their own merits, and some of the consorts had even been personally “acquired” by Li Xianyue from other clans.
They stood in two orderly rows.
“Your Highness summoned us so urgently to the Phoenix Harmony Hall could it be to discuss the matter of the principal consort?”
Everyone in the palace knew that Li Xuanyue still hadn’t chosen a principal consort or secondary consorts.
Even the current Phoenix Emperor hadn’t brought up the matter in front of Li Xuanyue.
The decision was entirely left to Li Xuanyue herself.
Such was the style of a Crown Princess.
Having served in the palace for years, these consorts and attendants had never risen beyond their current positions.
Now that Li Xuanyue suddenly had her attendant Yinxin summon them all, it was impossible not to speculate about her intentions.
