- Chapter 15 - Life Can't Just Be Like the First Meeting
Cheng Qiuyi and Liu Shuhan rummaged through the garbage dump all night, virtually turning the entire waste station upside down, and finally found Liu Shuhan’s precious box. By the time the two emerged from the dump, it was fully daylight. Both were covered in foul-smelling, unidentified substances. Cheng Qiuyi’s back was nearly broken, and all she wanted was to go home and take a hot shower.
Liu Shuhan hugged her little box and walked back contentedly, not sparing Cheng Qiuyi a glance. Cheng Qiuyi knew she was in the wrong. She dragged her feet, following behind Liu Shuhan, not daring to utter a sound.
Back home, Liu Shuhan ignored herself and first took a towel to meticulously wipe the box. Cheng Qiuyi couldn’t stand the stench on her body and went straight into the bathroom to shower, pondering how to make Liu Shuhan happy while she washed.
Cheng Qiuyi lathered shampoo five times and body wash four times. Only when the skin on her hands was wrinkled from soaking in the water did she feel clean enough. Rinsing the bubbles off her body, she emerged wearing a bathrobe. As soon as she tied the robe, remembering that Liu Shuhan was still angry, she deliberately pulled the gathered neckline open. They had been at it all night. Cheng Qiuyi had several scratches on her back and shoulders from Liu Shuhan, and her collarbone and chest were covered in bite marks Liu Shuhan had left. With the collar wide open, the kiss marks looked especially crimson against her pale skin. Cheng Qiuyi checked herself in the mirror, then, feeling it wasn’t enough, she deliberately pulled open a slit in the hem of the robe. A pair of long legs was faintly visible in the mirror. Only then was she satisfied and walked out.
Liu Shuhan wiped the box clean, found a new place to hide it, and sat on the floor with her arms crossed, growing angrier the more she thought about it. Even if there were nothing important hidden in her closet, how could Cheng Qiuyi just do this? Throw things away without even a heads-up? How were they supposed to live together like this? Today, she was lucky to get the box back. What if she couldn’t find it next time? She absolutely couldn’t let Cheng Qiuyi off the hook this easily.
Liu Shuhan fumed. A sound came from the bathroom direction. She looked up and saw Cheng Qiuyi emerging with a cloud of steam. Her mind went blank with a thump. All she could see was Cheng Qiuyi’s pale, exposed chest and her two long, straight legs. All thoughts of being angry and settling the score were thrown to the winds.
“You… why are you coming out dressed like that…” Liu Shuhan cleared her throat, stiffly turning her neck to avert her gaze from Cheng Qiuyi. She and Cheng Qiuyi had just done that thing. Cheng Qiuyi still bore her marks. Liu Shuhan felt her face burning while simultaneously being unable to suppress the upward curve of her lips.
“It’s hot in the bathroom,” Cheng Qiuyi said, seemingly casually wiping her hair and walking barefoot to Liu Shuhan. She initially intended to sit on the floor next to Liu Shuhan, but Liu Shuhan was simply too smelly. Cheng Qiuyi pinched her nose and shooed Liu Shuhan into the bathroom. “If you don’t shower soon, you’ll get fleas. Go shower immediately! You are not allowed out until you smell fragrant.”
Liu Shuhan’s brain was still fuzzy. Only after finishing her shower did she realize she hadn’t brought any clothes.
“Qiuyi, hand me my clothes,” Liu Shuhan called from the bathroom.
“Where are your clothes?”
“How should I know where you put them? Didn’t you throw away all my old clothes?” Liu Shuhan felt a surge of anger at the thought. Right! She had almost fallen for Cheng Qiuyi’s honey trap. This woman was too cunning. This time, she absolutely couldn’t let her just smooth things over.
Liu Shuhan waited naked in the bathroom for a long time without hearing any movement from Cheng Qiuyi. She called out again, “Cheng Qiuyi, are you still there? Did you find them?”
“Coming.” Cheng Qiuyi opened the bathroom door and walked in.
Liu Shuhan screamed and covered her chest, widening her eyes. “What are you doing?”
“Bringing you clothes, Your Highness,” Cheng Qiuyi said helplessly, holding up the clothes in her hand.
“Why didn’t you knock!”
Cheng Qiuyi was amused. “Is there any part of you I haven’t seen yet?”
Liu Shuhan knew she couldn’t win an argument with Cheng Qiuyi. Ignoring the teasing, she snatched the clothes from her hand and put them on.
After Liu Shuhan was dressed, Cheng Qiuyi added, “However, I just found something in the pocket of your clothes from last night. Shuhan, do you want to see?”
Liu Shuhan felt a sense of dread. “What thing?”
Cheng Qiuyi lifted an underwear strap with two fingers, revealing the exact piece Liu Shuhan had hastily stuffed into her pocket last night.
“Shuhan, how come I didn’t know you have br3asts this big?”
Liu Shuhan’s eyes darted around. “What are you talking about? I don’t understand.”
“It’s okay if you don’t understand.” The small item in Cheng Qiuyi’s hand dangled in front of Liu Shuhan. “Shuhan, last time I said the house was robbed. Now, this little thief has been caught. Guess who it is?”
“How would I know.” Liu Shuhan snatched the two annoying pieces of fabric from Cheng Qiuyi’s hand and said roughly, “Why are you still holding these dirty clothes from yesterday? Leave them there, I’ll wash them later.”
She started to walk out. Cheng Qiuyi extended her arm, propping it against the wall to block Liu Shuhan’s path. She lowered her head and looked at her. “Shuhan, if this little thief is caught, how do you think I should punish her?”
Liu Shuhan was trapped between Cheng Qiuyi and the wall. Cheng Qiuyi’s bathrobe collar was already wide, and with her arm raised, the view inside was completely exposed. Yet, she acted as if nothing was amiss, leaning a few centimeters closer to Liu Shuhan, a smile playing on her lips, her eyes curved. “Shuhan, how do you want me to punish you?”
Liu Shuhan knew she couldn’t keep the secret anymore. Leaning against the wall behind her, she looked dejected. “Qiuyi, am I a pervert?”
“I know I’m a pervert, but I just can’t control my hands.”
Cheng Qiuyi cupped the back of her head, pulled her into an embrace, and kissed her indiscriminately. She sighed. “Silly Dead Wood, I’m a living person right here. Why do you want those things instead of asking me?”
Liu Shuhan buried her head in Cheng Qiuyi’s chest, not answering.
Cheng Qiuyi sighed again. “Shuhan, what do I need to do to make you believe I love you?”
Liu Shuhan didn’t say anything, but Cheng Qiuyi already had the answer. Her previous unannounced departure had left a much deeper shadow on Liu Shuhan than she had imagined. Liu Shuhan felt she couldn’t keep Cheng Qiuyi, so she tried to keep anything related to Cheng Qiuyi. Cheng Qiuyi had always thought her love with Liu Shuhan was so natural. Liu Shuhan loved her, and she loved Liu Shuhan—a match made in heaven, so fair.
It wasn’t fair at all, Cheng Qiuyi thought. Otherwise, why would Liu Shuhan be so afraid, so cautiously accommodating everything she did?
“Qiuyi, next time you don’t want me, will you tell me?” After a while, Liu Shuhan spoke from within Cheng Qiuyi’s embrace. They were pressed tightly together. Her voice directly pierced Cheng Qiuyi’s skin and bone as she spoke, tapping against her heart. Cheng Qiuyi felt a dull ache in her chest.
Cheng Qiuyi’s hand on Liu Shuhan’s waist dropped to grasp Liu Shuhan’s hand. She turned her palm and interlaced their fingers, wishing she could melt Liu Shuhan entirely into her body. “Shuhan, it was my fault before. I regret it very much. But this time, I will never let go of your hand again.”
Liu Shuhan nodded, but Cheng Qiuyi knew she didn’t believe her. “Shuhan, I know you don’t believe me right now. It’s okay. This time, let me prove it to you.”
The gap between Liu Shuhan and Cheng Qiuyi was nine years. Life couldn’t always be as it was in the beginning, but Cheng Qiuyi wanted to be with Liu Shuhan and spend the rest of their lives making up for the nine years they had lost, little by little.
“Qiuyi.” Liu Shuhan looked up at her, her eyes glistening. “Does this mean you’re not mad at me anymore?”
Cheng Qiuyi smiled. “When was I ever mad at you?”
“Then does that mean I don’t have to be punished?”
“Well…” Cheng Qiuyi slipped her hand into Liu Shuhan’s nightgown. “That’s a separate matter. You have to receive all the punishment you deserve.”
“Don’t… I have to go to work later…”
“To hell with your boss.” Cheng Qiuyi’s lips slid down Liu Shuhan’s shoulder.
…
The two stayed up all night. Cheng Qiuyi had the stamina for it and was satisfied after thoroughly “punishing” Liu Shuhan. Liu Shuhan’s physical fitness couldn’t compare to Cheng Qiuyi’s, and she actually passed out from exhaustion.
Liu Shuhan was breathing steadily in bed. Cheng Qiuyi was afraid she might be uncomfortable, so she carefully cleaned her body and held her as they both drifted off to sleep.
They slept until dinner time. Liu Shuhan hadn’t slept so well in a long time and felt refreshed after waking up. She glanced at the still-sleeping Cheng Qiuyi, tiptoed out of bed, and started cooking for her.
It wasn’t until she was cutting potatoes that Liu Shuhan remembered she was supposed to be settling the score with Cheng Qiuyi. Cheng Qiuyi had nearly thrown away her most treasured possessions and should be properly taught a lesson.
Liu Shuhan thought about it and then let it go. Her most treasured possession was Cheng Qiuyi. A living, breathing Cheng Qiuyi was right here. Why should she cling to inanimate objects?
Cheng Qiuyi woke up to the smell of food, surprised that she had slept so soundly. She was usually a light sleeper, waking up at the slightest disturbance, but this time she hadn’t even had a dream.
The person she loved most was right beside her, personally cooking a meal for her. Cheng Qiuyi’s biggest dream had already come true, so it was no wonder she had no dreams.
She dressed, ready to get up, when her phone received a text message from Ye Jing.
[Qiuyi, I’m so jealous of that woman named Liu Shuhan. What should I do?]
Cheng Qiuyi’s eyes darkened, and her good mood for the day vanished.
Ye Jing and Cheng Qiuyi were taught by the same master. As fellow disciples, Cheng Qiuyi knew Ye Jing’s temperament somewhat. That woman had been ruthless in achieving her goals since she was young. She dared to set a trap for Cheng Qiuyi even before she took charge of the Ye family. Now, her tricks were probably more insidious than ever.
If Ye Jing only targeted Cheng Qiuyi, Cheng Qiuyi could still consider their master’s relationship and save Ye Jing some face. But if she dared to touch Liu Shuhan… Cheng Qiuyi clenched her phone. Was Ye Jing really under the impression that she had spent her years in Country A sightseeing?
