- Chapter 22 - This Is My Love
Cheng Qiuyi saw a small figure standing behind her car in the rearview mirror. She froze for a moment, flicked the cigarette out of her hand, got out of the car, and met Liu Shuhan’s eyes.
Liu Shuhan was wearing only a thin jacket over her pajamas, with slippers she hadn’t had time to change out of, and her hair was tied up casually, even a little messy.
Cheng Qiuyi ran over in three long strides. She wanted to reach out and pull Liu Shuhan into her arms, but she was conscious of the strong smell of smoke on her, afraid Liu Shuhan would mind. She stopped in front of her, unsure of what to do with her hands and feet.
Liu Shuhan had no such reservations. She stepped forward and hugged Cheng Qiuyi, burying her head in Cheng Qiuyi’s chest and whispering, “I knew you hadn’t left. Cheng Qiuyi, you are such an idiot.”
Cheng Qiuyi was only wearing a shirt, and the fabric on her chest became visibly wet the moment Liu Shuhan hugged her.
Cheng Qiuyi let out a long sigh and raised her hand to gently pat Liu Shuhan’s back in a soothing gesture. “I’m an idiot, and you’re a fool. We’re a perfect match.” She had been smoking all night, and her throat felt rough, as if rubbed with sandpaper. Her words carried a choking scent of nicotine.
Liu Shuhan wiped her tears, looked up, and said fiercely, “Well, Cheng Qiuyi, I thought you were some kind of upstanding youth. You were smoking behind my back.”
“I’ve been wronged, Your Honor. This is my first offense, a rookie mistake,” Cheng Qiuyi cooperated by raising her hands above her head, looking wronged and surrendering.
“Pfft, look how skilled you are. You’re trying to fool me that it’s your first time.”
A gust of wind blew by in the night. Without the protection of Cheng Qiuyi’s arms, Liu Shuhan shivered from the cold. Seeing this, Cheng Qiuyi quickly pulled her into her embrace, frowned slightly, and chided, “Going out so lightly dressed late at night? Do you really think you’re made of iron?”
“How dare you lecture me?” Liu Shuhan mumbled, leaning on Cheng Qiuyi’s shoulder. Her nostrils were filled with the scent of tobacco on Cheng Qiuyi’s body. A thought suddenly popped into her mind. “Qiuyi, why don’t I take you to meet my parents? It has to happen sooner or later. Better to get it over with quickly.”
“If you want to anger them to death, then go ahead,” Cheng Qiuyi snapped. “It has to happen eventually, but it needs to be gradual. We need to give them plenty of warning first. If you bring it up so suddenly and scare your parents into an emergency, will it be your fault or mine?”
“But… but I don’t want you to feel wronged…”
“Let’s take it slow. There aren’t that many things in this world that go exactly as planned.”
Liu Shuhan remembered her mother still wanting to set her up on blind dates and said playfully, “Slowly, you say? If we go any slower, I’ll become someone else’s wife.”
“What did you say?” Cheng Qiuyi was startled.
“My mom wants to drag me to blind dates, saying I’m not getting any younger, and other girls my age already have kids running errands.”
Cheng Qiuyi’s face darkened. “Log, if you dare to go, I’m done with you.”
Liu Shuhan chuckled. “Who said I was going? My wife has looks, she has capability. Can those rough, smelly men compare?”
“So, if there was someone who could compare, you would agree?”
“No, I still wouldn’t agree. I want to spend my life with only you. No one else will do.”
Cheng Qiuyi’s expression finally softened. She asked, “You ran out so late. Aren’t your parents worried?”
Liu Shuhan glanced at her. “What, are you trying to chase me away? And then secretly hide in some corner to smoke and pretend to be profound? No way!”
“Then what do you want to do?” Cheng Qiuyi asked helplessly.
Liu Shuhan thought for a moment, then pulled Cheng Qiuyi into the car. “Let’s go back to the hotel. At worst, we’ll get up early tomorrow and take my dad to the hospital.” She wrinkled her nose in disgust. “Cheng Qiuyi, you are not allowed to smoke anymore! Don’t even think about getting into my bed tonight until that smoke smell is completely gone!”
“Don’t be like that!” Cheng Qiuyi was anxious. “Shuhan, I really only smoked this once. Please, in your great generosity, forgive me this time, okay?”
…
Liu Shuhan got up early the next morning and took Liu Sen to the hospital for a check-up. Cheng Qiuyi’s maternal grandfather’s family, the Zhou family, was in City Z, so she still carried some weight here. After notifying the hospital, they avoided the trouble of waiting in line. The entire check-up was completed in less than an hour, and there were no major issues. Liu Shuhan finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She was thinking of Cheng Qiuyi and rushed to find her immediately after taking her parents home.
Liu Shuhan knocked on Cheng Qiuyi’s door. The second Cheng Qiuyi opened the door, Liu Shuhan tackled her against the wall, kissing her wildly like a puppy. Cheng Qiuyi braced herself against the wall, catching Liu Shuhan. She was amused by her impatient actions and deliberately composed her expression to be serious. “Shuhan, doing this in broad daylight… it’s indecent.”
“It’s always indecent, no matter when we do it. And I don’t believe you don’t want it.” Liu Shuhan challenged Cheng Qiuyi. Her hand slipped under Cheng Qiuyi’s clothing hem to caress her slender waist, and her knee nudged between Cheng Qiuyi’s legs, rubbing against her inner thigh.
With a beauty in her arms, if Cheng Qiuyi could restrain herself, she wouldn’t be Cheng Qiuyi. The two of them moved from the entryway to the bed, their clothes and skirts scattered all over the floor.
Liu Shuhan was unexpectedly active this time. When their passion peaked, her teeth bit down hard on Cheng Qiuyi’s shoulder, leaving two fine rows of small teeth marks, with thin trails of bl00d seeping out, like a medal adorning Cheng Qiuyi’s shoulder.
Cheng Qiuyi frowned, enduring the sharp pain, and guided Liu Shuhan to the peak of pleasure.
Finally, recovering from the climax, Cheng Qiuyi grimaced, “Log, are you a dog? With that bite, I won’t be able to wear my new slip dress for half a month.”
Liu Shuhan leaned close to Cheng Qiuyi’s shoulder, stuck out her tongue to lightly lick the two rows of teeth marks, and then smacked her lips. “It’s a mark, so people will know that you, Cheng Qiuyi, are taken.”
“Then I have to mark you too.” Cheng Qiuyi pretended to open her mouth to bite Liu Shuhan.
Liu Shuhan was frightened and quickly covered Cheng Qiuyi’s mouth, pleading with a miserable face, “Don’t… I’m afraid of pain…”
Cheng Qiuyi laughed in exasperation. “Why didn’t you think about the pain when you bit me?” She ultimately couldn’t bring herself to bite, so she pressed against Liu Shuhan’s collarbone and sucked, leaving a deep red hickey on her shoulder. Only then did she nod contentedly. “This block of rotten wood of yours can finally blossom.”
The two of them spent another day intimately, only then remembering that they had come out to have fun. Now, they had wasted two days doing nothing else.
Liu Shuhan grew up in City Z and genuinely didn’t find any particularly interesting places there. Cheng Qiuyi, on the other hand, was enthusiastic and took Liu Shuhan to… their high school.
The high school was a semi-closed campus. It was usually fine, but this day happened to be the weekend, making entry and exit difficult. They couldn’t enter through the main gate. Cheng Qiuyi took Liu Shuhan around the school wall for a long time before finding a low, secluded section of the wall and climbing over.
“Cheng Qiuyi, you’re something else. Good thing I’m wearing pants today.”
Behind the wall was the bicycle shed. Nowadays, few students or teachers rode bicycles, so the shed hadn’t been used for a long time and was covered in cobwebs.
“I still remember in senior year, you secretly came here to deflate a teacher’s bicycle tires,” Cheng Qiuyi said, pointing to a pillar in the shed. “You were so clumsy back then. You struggled for ages, but the air didn’t come out, and you only ended up sweating profusely.”
“Who told him to publicly scold you?” Liu Shuhan rolled her eyes. “That teacher clearly wasn’t a good person. I was just helping you teach him a lesson.”
“In the end, not only did you fail to teach him a lesson, but you almost got yourself disciplined,” Cheng Qiuyi said mockingly.
Liu Shuhan smiled, remembering the scene that day. “My first time doing something bad was dedicated to you. Aren’t you touched?”
“Which of your first times wasn’t mine?” Cheng Qiuyi retorted, leaning on Liu Shuhan’s shoulder.
Some people could steer any conversation towards that direction.
Liu Shuhan was defeated. She cleared her throat and forcefully changed the subject. “Speaking of which, it’s strange. The teacher’s tire still burst later. Someone apparently slashed it with a knife. I don’t know who it was, but they were more unethical than me.”
The one who was more unethical stood beside Liu Shuhan, looking completely solemn, without a hint of guilt.
The school was probably the area in City Z with the least change. It looked the same as it did ten years ago. Although Liu Shuhan was a local, she had failed the college entrance examination and felt ashamed to face her teachers, so she hadn’t returned to the school once in all these years. Returning with Cheng Qiuyi this time was quite nostalgic. She had thought she would never see Cheng Qiuyi again and was completely disheartened, never imagining they would have a day where they finally ended up together.
“Qiuyi, do you know when I first developed feelings for you?” They strolled to the sports field, and Liu Shuhan leaned on the grandstand, asking Cheng Qiuyi.
“Could it be here?”
It was during the sports meet that year. Liu Shuhan was showing off and signed up for the ten-thousand-meter race. Halfway through, she fell on the plastic track, her knees and elbows covered in dirt and cuts, bloody and bruised. Cheng Qiuyi was a volunteer maintaining order that year, wearing a red hat. She carried Liu Shuhan to the infirmary without a word.
Liu Shuhan couldn’t recall the specific details of that day, only that Cheng Qiuyi’s skin was nearly transparently pale, and the veins on the back of her neck were clearly visible. She had been paying attention to Cheng Qiuyi for a long time then. Suddenly having such close contact with her goddess, the pain in her body was long forgotten. Her eyes were fixed on Cheng Qiuyi’s fair neck, thinking how someone could be so beautiful.
Cheng Qiuyi thought for a long time but couldn’t recall which year Liu Shuhan was referring to. She could only laugh awkwardly, “Then I must have used the excuse of taking you to the infirmary to slack off from being a volunteer.”
Cheng Qiuyi was telling the truth. At that time, she was young and ambitious, full of so-called grand aspirations, and looked down on high school students. How could she possibly volunteer to help others?
“What about you? When did you fall in love with me?”
Cheng Qiuyi answered honestly, “I don’t know.”
Cheng Qiuyi truly didn’t know. After being lonely for too long, she simply didn’t reject Liu Shuhan’s deliberate closeness—and even somewhat enjoyed the feeling of being admired by such a silly girl. Little did she know that over time, Liu Shuhan had quietly entered her heart.
Liu Shuhan was clearly dissatisfied with this answer and leaned against the railing in disappointment. “You are so boring.” Suddenly, her eyes brightened again. “Qiuyi, let’s go for a run?”
“It’s so hot. If you want to run, you run.”
“You!” Liu Shuhan huffed in annoyance. “You have no romance!”
Cheng Qiuyi smiled without saying anything, took a tissue, and wiped the sweat from Liu Shuhan’s nose.
On the way back, they ran into their former high school homeroom teacher. The teacher was named Qin Jiang. His temples were graying, and he had deep wrinkles around his eyes. He was a meticulous man, never close to anyone, always wearing a distant smile on his face. Liu Shuhan later realized that the fake smile Cheng Qiuyi used with outsiders was exactly the same as the smile Qin Jiang used to deal with them.
Qin Jiang had an excellent memory. After nearly ten years, he could still accurately call out Cheng Qiuyi and Liu Shuhan’s names. However, he hesitated slightly when he saw Cheng Qiuyi. The hesitation was too brief to be noticeable.
“Teacher Qin, you haven’t changed at all after all these years!” Liu Shuhan complimented with a cheerful smile.
“Master, long time no see,” Cheng Qiuyi also said.
Liu Shuhan didn’t suspect anything about Cheng Qiuyi’s way of addressing him. Cheng Qiuyi had a good relationship with Qin Jiang in high school, so a more intimate address was understandable.
Qin Jiang, however, was greatly surprised by Cheng Qiuyi addressing him this way. He gave Cheng Qiuyi a look of disapproval, then his eyes swept towards Liu Shuhan next to her, as if reminding Cheng Qiuyi of something.
“Master, besides coming to City Z specifically to see you this time, I also wanted to introduce someone to you.” Cheng Qiuyi pushed Liu Shuhan forward. “This is Liu Shuhan, my lover.”
