Beautiful Woman, You Have Another Express Delivery! (GL) - Chapter 28
After returning from City Z, Liu Shuhan became extraordinarily attentive towards Cheng Qiuyi. She fetched tea and poured water, did the laundry and cooked, not allowing Cheng Qiuyi to intervene in any household matters. She treated Cheng Qiuyi like a treasured possession, even squeezing toothpaste onto the toothbrush and placing it in the rinsing cup for her in the morning. That was nothing, but what Cheng Qiuyi found most unaccustomed to was how softly Liu Shuhan spoke. Even when Cheng Qiuyi teased her, she held back her temper. Cheng Qiuyi began to miss the former boisterous Liu Shuhan.
“Qiuyi, Qiuyi?” At precisely 7:30 AM, Liu Shuhan woke Cheng Qiuyi, who was still deep in her dreams. “Qiuyi, get up for breakfast. Today, we have the small wontons you love.”
Cheng Qiuyi snuggled in the quilt, rolling a few times until she reached the edge of the bed. She looped her long arm around Liu Shuhan and mumbled, “Shuhan, sleep with me for a little longer.”
Liu Shuhan stroked Cheng Qiuyi’s messy long hair and said softly, “Hurry up and eat. I need to go to work after eating.”
Cheng Qiuyi’s eyes snapped open, and she complained, “Why are you going again? Didn’t you get fired?”
“Phooey, phooey, phooey!” Liu Shuhan removed Cheng Qiuyi’s hand clinging to her waist. “I haven’t been notified yet, have I? What if the boss is in a good mood and didn’t fire me?”
Cheng Qiuyi threw off the blanket and got out of bed, casually raking her fingers through her hair twice. “I’d rather he fire you quickly, so I can see you every day. How great would that be?” She was only wearing a thin nightgown, which outlined a lovely silhouette on her chest.
If this had happened before, Liu Shuhan would have been blushing profusely with embarrassment. Now that she had spent a long time with Cheng Qiuyi, she was thicker-skinned than before and even reached out to grope Cheng Qiuyi’s chest. “You know, we both grew up eating rice, so how come all your flesh grew exactly where it should?”
Cheng Qiuyi grabbed Liu Shuhan’s wrist, narrowed her eyes, and threatened, “Log, I think you don’t want to go to work today, do you?”
Liu Shuhan shuddered and awkwardly withdrew her hand. “I was just admiring you.”
Cheng Qiuyi casually pinched Liu Shuhan’s butt. “I’ll deal with you tonight.”
“You!” Liu Shuhan was about to flare up, but her eyes rolled. She suddenly smiled broadly. “Hurry up and come out to eat. It won’t taste good when it’s cold.”
“…”
Cheng Qiuyi felt she needed to have a talk with Liu Shuhan.
After breakfast, Liu Shuhan got ready to leave, continuously nagging and instructing. “I’ve made lunch and put it in the fridge. You can take it out and heat it up at noon. Don’t always eat takeout, okay? Also, don’t turn up the air conditioner too high when I’m not home. If you didn’t sleep well and want to nap, remember to cover yourself properly so you don’t catch a cold. Leave the pots and dishes in the sink, and I’ll wash them when I get back. You…”
Cheng Qiuyi pressed her temples in a headache. “Shuhan, what’s wrong with you lately?”
“What do you mean ‘what’s wrong’?” Liu Shuhan asked, putting on her shoes.
“Why are you suddenly so meticulous?”
“Can you talk properly?” A flicker of panic crossed Liu Shuhan’s eyes. “Is it wrong for me to be nice to you? Well, I’m leaving now. See you tonight.”
Cheng Qiuyi took three large steps, pressed the door the moment Liu Shuhan opened it, and the slightly ajar security door shut with a bang. She cornered Liu Shuhan against the wall, bent down, and leaned closer to her. “Liu Shuhan, if you don’t confess honestly, don’t think about leaving this door today.”
“Co-confess what?” Cheng Qiuyi looked very imposing when she was stern, and Liu Shuhan’s assertiveness unconsciously weakened a bit.
“You know in your heart.” Cheng Qiuyi relaxed her tone and sighed softly. “Shuhan, what exactly happened? Is there anything we can’t talk about between us?”
“It’s nothing…” Liu Shuhan awkwardly scratched her head. “I just… Qiuyi, was I very mean to you before?”
Cheng Qiuyi felt there was no one in the world who treated her better than Liu Shuhan. She didn’t know what gossip Liu Shuhan had heard from whom. She gently tapped Liu Shuhan’s head and laughed, “What are you overthinking now, you block of wood? Why are you suddenly saying something like that?”
Liu Shuhan felt wronged by the tapping, covered her head, and pouted. “I swore an oath in front of your mother last time, to be good to you, to take good care of you, and not let you be wronged.”
“But I was very mean to you before. I often yelled at you and made you sad.” Her words were timid, but her eyes were firm.
Cheng Qiuyi stared at Liu Shuhan for a moment, then leaned on Liu Shuhan’s shoulder and laughed out loud. She didn’t know what good karma she had accumulated in her past life to meet such an honest and naive girl like Liu Shuhan in this life. This silly girl was lucky to have met her. If she had encountered a naturally flirtatious and reckless person and been deceived, Cheng Qiuyi would definitely regret it for the rest of her life.
“Shuhan, you’re good enough.” Cheng Qiuyi lifted Liu Shuhan’s chin. “I like it when you argue fiercely with me. What’s the point of a plain and boring life together every day? Besides, when did you ever make me sad? Silly girl, stop overthinking things all the time.”
“But I don’t even dare to take you home to meet my parents. Your Master is right. Life is so long. If I’m not good to you, what if you run away?”
“Don’t listen to my Master’s nonsense. He’s been single for so many years, and he thinks he knows more about romance than I do, who has a wife? I think he just wants to stir up trouble.”
“Go on, who is your wife?” Liu Shuhan blushed. “I’m being good to you, and you’re still not happy. Move aside, don’t make me late for work.”
“Yes, my dear Wife!”
Cheng Qiuyi absolutely, one thousand percent, did not want Liu Shuhan to be this thankless, tiring courier. However, Liu Shuhan was earnest and insisted on not being a useless person who just loafed around. Besides, Liu Shuhan genuinely enjoyed the courier profession, so Cheng Qiuyi had to let her have her way.
However, being exposed to the wind and rain every day was genuinely hard work. Cheng Qiuyi tapped her chin and made a phone call.
“May I speak with Mr. Li from HT Logistics? My surname is Cheng, Cheng Qiuyi… Yes, I’d like to ask a favor…”
…
As soon as Liu Shuhan entered the company, she noticed that several people were looking at her strangely. Liu Shuhan’s heart sank. It’s over. My job is probably really gone this time. She clocked in and went to the warehouse. The other couriers were surprised to see her. “Shuhan? Why are you still here?”
Liu Shuhan assumed they already knew she had been fired and said dejectedly, “Yeah, I came to pack my things. I’ll leave once I’m done.” Liu Shuhan threw her backpack onto the floor and started gathering her water bottle, jacket, and other belongings. It was a place she had worked for nearly a year, and she was genuinely a little reluctant to leave.
The men saw the look on Liu Shuhan’s face was wrong and were quite puzzled. How could she be frowning when she got a promotion? That’s strange.
“Shuhan, what’s wrong? Aren’t you happy to be the manager?” asked Xiao Wang, who usually joked with her the most.
“Nonsense, how can I be happy when I’ve been fired?” Liu Shuhan said, then looked up in shock. “Brother Wang, what did you say? What manager?”
“That’s right,” Xiao Wang looked baffled. “Didn’t you know? The former Manager Zhang was fired, and the boss said that your outstanding performance this year and the few times you appeared on TV brought great fame to the company. They specially promoted you to manager.”
“Really?” Liu Shuhan looked suspicious. This promotion was too bizarre. Was it reasonable for someone with only a high school education like her to be a manager?
“Tsk, of course, it’s true! If you don’t believe me, ask the boss yourself!”
“Stop teasing me. Why would the boss suddenly come to our branch office?”
Speak of the devil and he shall appear. Just as Liu Shuhan finished tidying up, her boss called. “Is this Liu Shuhan? Hmm, young and promising, you have a future! Now that you’re Manager Liu, you must work hard and strive to lead our HT Logistics to the next level! Alright, you’re busy. I’m hanging up.”
Liu Shuhan stood there in disbelief. Could such an unbelievable piece of good fortune really happen to her?
Liu Shuhan felt uneasy in the manager’s office all morning. Although Manager Zhang had a bad temper and was a bit of a snob, his ability was undeniable. He had a master’s degree, so in what way was he not better than Liu Shuhan? Setting aside everything else, just looking at the table full of reports, the messy data on them gave Liu Shuhan a headache. And the documents requiring her signature, filled with dense text, Liu Shuhan didn’t even want to look at them.
What should she do? There was no other way. Liu Shuhan had to call Cheng Qiuyi.
“Qiuyi…”
“Shuhan? What’s wrong? You didn’t get fired, did you?” Cheng Qiuyi seemed to be practicing yoga at home, with music playing in the background.
“No,” Liu Shuhan sighed. “I’ve become a manager…”
Cheng Qiuyi was amused. “Being a manager is a good thing, isn’t it? I thought something was wrong with the way you said it.”
“But… but…”
“No more ‘buts.’ Work hard, and come back early after work. We’ll celebrate properly.” With that, Cheng Qiuyi hung up the phone. She put down the phone, retracted her arm, and completed the final breathing exercise, feeling a little guilty. She had promised not to lie to Liu Shuhan. Was this a bit inappropriate?
But I don’t understand it… Liu Shuhan listened to the dial tone, on the verge of tears.
Liu Shuhan was well-liked in the company. When she was promoted, many people cheered and encouraged her to treat them to a meal. Liu Shuhan couldn’t resist their enthusiasm and agreed to let them find a place.
Liu Shuhan was worried about Cheng Qiuyi at home and specifically informed her, which led to another round of teasing from the crowd.
“Oh, our Shuhan is in love?”
“Look at her radiant face recently, and she’s always taking time off. She must be enjoying a passionate time with her boyfriend.”
“You should have seen her in the office today. She was smiling so sweetly on the phone with her significant other, tsk tsk tsk, even I couldn’t bear it.”
Liu Shuhan laughed and scolded, “If you gossip any more, go home and eat your packed lunches. I’m not serving you guys anymore!”
Despite the scolding, everyone saw her face was beaming, and they knew their guess was likely correct. The cheers grew louder, and the group headed noisily to the restaurant.
Cheng Qiuyi was worried about Liu Shuhan going alone, but she was afraid Liu Shuhan would be uncomfortable if she went with her, so she asked for the exact address and quietly waited outside the entrance. Her car was parked on the opposite side of the road from where Liu Shuhan and the others were. This road was lined with upscale restaurants, and the flow of traffic was heavy. No one paid much attention to the extra car. However, shortly after, a graceful woman stood by Cheng Qiuyi’s car and tapped on her window.
Cheng Qiuyi rolled down the window. The woman leaned in, resting both hands on Cheng Qiuyi’s car window. “Beautiful, a genuine student girl. Want one?” She had long brown hair styled in a slight wave and wore bright red lipstick, genuinely exuding the air of a woman of the night.
Cheng Qiuyi glanced at her, propped her head up, and said, “Cut the nonsense. Get in.”
“It’s only been a year since we last met, and you’re getting increasingly cold to me,” the woman shook her head and got into the car, throwing a flying kiss at Cheng Qiuyi.
Cheng Qiuyi smiled. “A Ying, last time at Ye Jing’s place, you were screaming at me to get lost.”
