Beautiful Woman, You Have Another Express Delivery! (GL) - Chapter 32
It was one in the morning.
In the dim bedroom, only the desk lamp in one corner emitted a weak light. Cheng Qiuyi had loosely tied up her long hair and was wearing only a silk nightgown, sitting properly at the desk, reading the documents Liu Shuhan had brought back.
Liu Shuhan, exhausted after being “punished” by Cheng Qiuyi, was curled up on the bed, sleeping soundly. Cheng Qiuyi finally finished the last page of the document, pinched the bridge of her nose, and walked out of the bedroom with her cup, preparing to pour herself a glass of water. As she passed Liu Shuhan, she casually pulled the blanket, which Liu Shuhan had wrapped into a ball, smoothed it out, and carefully covered Liu Shuhan with it.
“Qiuyi?” Liu Shuhan’s eyes were blurry with sleep. She threw off the blanket, trying to sit up. “Why did I fall asleep? What time is it?”
Cheng Qiuyi pressed her back onto the bed and tucked her in. “Sleep. I’ve finished reading the documents. You just need to sign them tomorrow. Don’t worry.”
“Are you going to sleep?”
“I’m going to pour a glass of water, and I’ll be right back.”
Liu Shuhan closed her eyes and mumbled reassuringly, “You can only drink a little, or your eyes will be swollen tomorrow. Don’t drink tea; you won’t be able to sleep if you do…”
“I know, little busybody.” Cheng Qiuyi bent down and kissed Liu Shuhan’s forehead. “Sleep.”
Cheng Qiuyi could help Liu Shuhan for a while, but she couldn’t help her forever. Liu Shuhan was not talented in other areas, but she had one good quality: she was not ashamed to ask questions. Although the process of “asking questions” often involved Cheng Qiuyi taking advantage of her, the crash course of over half a month finally yielded some results. At least she looked the part, and with Cheng Qiuyi as her backup, her work finally got on track.
The past half month had been uneventful. Cheng Qiuyi was still occasionally elusive, appearing and disappearing unpredictably, which Liu Shuhan had long since grown accustomed to. However, today, a minor incident occurred at Liu Shuhan’s company.
Xiao Wang came to work one day with a bruised and swollen face. He was usually outgoing and would greet everyone, but today, he wore a sour expression and buried himself in work, looking as if everyone owed him money.
Seeing this, several colleagues went up to him to offer comfort and try to get information, but to no avail. Knowing that Xiao Wang usually had a good relationship with Liu Shuhan, they invited the newly appointed manager over.
Since the last time Liu Shuhan got drunk, she had intentionally maintained a distance from Xiao Wang and the others. After all, there was a distinction between men and women. Before, she was a single person and wasn’t afraid of gossip, but now that she had Cheng Qiuyi, she couldn’t be as uninhibited as before. However, Xiao Wang’s injury was a big deal. When Liu Shuhan heard about it, she immediately went to find Xiao Wang.
Xiao Wang was loading goods onto his electric bicycle with a grim expression. Liu Shuhan deliberately approached him to smooth things over. “Brother Wang, what’s wrong? Did you eat gunpowder?”
Xiao Wang glanced at her, remaining silent.
Liu Shuhan added, “Look at the injuries on your face. Did your girlfriend beat you up? You must have been flirting with other women!”
Xiao Wang grumbled angrily, “I wish my girlfriend had beaten me up.”
“Not your girlfriend? Then who? No, you’re a big guy. Why didn’t you run when someone hit you? You just stood there and let them hit you?”
Xiao Wang was furious at the mention of this. He slammed down the express package in his hand and yelled, his face red and neck bulging, “I must have done something awful in my past life to run into such a despicable person!”
“What happened?”
Once he started talking, Xiao Wang didn’t hold anything back. He spat on the ground and raged, “Yesterday, I ran into a fat pig who insisted that I delivered his fruit late and demanded five times the compensation, or he would complain about me. I looked at the fruit; it was all fine! He was just trying to extort money from me!”
“And then you fought?”
“Xiao Liu, Manager Liu! It’s not my fault. I didn’t want to cause trouble. That fat pig kept saying increasingly offensive things, and he was the one who started the fight!”
Just as he finished speaking, the front desk called Liu Shuhan’s internal line. “Manager, it’s not good! Someone brought a group of people to cause trouble! They even injured the security guards!”
Liu Shuhan was shocked and didn’t have time to worry about Xiao Wang’s matter. She quickly called people to go to the lobby with her to check it out.
The leader of the troublemakers was a middle-aged man, rotund with a slightly bald head. His big beer belly was thrust forward, and his face was full of fat. Liu Shuhan felt his appearance was somewhat familiar, but she couldn’t recall where she had seen him.
As soon as Xiao Wang saw the middle-aged man, his eyes turned red. He lunged to hit him but was held back by several people.
“Damn it, you dare to come back? I’ll kill you!” Xiao Wang looked like he was about to break free from the people holding him back.
The middle-aged man subconsciously shrank back slightly, then felt he had lost face. He cleared his throat and said, “Where’s your boss? Call him out to see me. Your people injured me, and I’m here for an explanation!”
Liu Shuhan signaled Xiao Wang to calm down, walked forward, and smiled. “Hello, Sir, I’m the person in charge here. You can talk to me if you have any issues.”
“Just you?” The man smiled contemptuously, then turned to look at Liu Shuhan. His face drastically changed, and he couldn’t speak fluently. “Is, is that… you?”
Liu Shuhan was puzzled. “Do you know me?”
The man looked her over for a moment. “Consider yourselves lucky today. Let’s go!”
The group left in a grand manner. Xiao Wang spat at their retreating figures. “What a piece of work. Don’t let your grandpa ever see you again!”
In the evening, Liu Shuhan recounted the incident to Cheng Qiuyi as a joke. Cheng Qiuyi asked, “And then?”
“And then? Then they left. But I keep feeling like I’ve seen that fat guy somewhere, but I just can’t remember.”
“Don’t worry about it if you can’t remember,” Cheng Qiuyi patted the back of Liu Shuhan’s head. “In the future, call the police directly for this kind of thing. Don’t try to be a hero.”
While taking a shower, Liu Shuhan racked her brain and finally had a realization. She poked her head out, completely naked. “Qiuyi, I know where I saw him!”
“Put on some clothes first,” Cheng Qiuyi said.
Liu Shuhan excitedly dressed and came out, sitting next to Cheng Qiuyi. “He’s the driver who hit me last time!”
“Uh-huh.” Cheng Qiuyi was unperturbed.
Liu Shuhan noticed the subtle signs. “Did you know already? I said, why did that fat pig look like a mouse seeing a cat when he saw me? Tell me! Did you secretly go and teach him a lesson?”
“It was me. So what? He dared to hit my wife, and I shouldn’t teach him a lesson?” Cheng Qiuyi had indeed privately dealt with that driver, but she felt she was open and honest and had a clear conscience. Considering the injuries Liu Shuhan sustained at the time, the lesson he received was a light one.
Liu Shuhan couldn’t imagine how Cheng Qiuyi had dealt with him, but she was unusually excited. “Qiuyi, you’re so cool! Utterly cool! You’re my idol!”
Cheng Qiuyi had expected Liu Shuhan to lecture her about maintaining harmony and the like, so she was surprised by this reaction. “You don’t blame me?”
“Blame you for what?” Liu Shuhan was puzzled. “You should have seen how pathetic that fat pig looked when he saw me today. It was so satisfying!”
“…”
A little later, Zhi contacted Cheng Qiuyi. “Miss, the baby’s one-month celebration is set for the fifth, at Yangfeng Restaurant. Are you coming?”
“Of course, I’m coming. She’s my goddaughter,” Cheng Qiuyi glanced at Liu Shuhan, who was lying on the sofa applying a facial mask, and said quietly, “Do you remember that driver from a few months ago?”
“Him? Is he causing trouble again?”
“He caused a disturbance at Shuhan’s company,” Cheng Qiuyi’s eyes darkened. “Find a few people to properly advise him.”
“Understood.”
Liu Shuhan asked after removing her facial mask, “Who was that just now?”
“Zhi.” Cheng Qiuyi squeezed Liu Shuhan’s freshly dewy face. “The baby’s one-month celebration is on the fifth of next month. They’ve invited us to go.”
“Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go!” Liu Shuhan said excitedly. “The last time I saw the baby, she was like a little monkey. I wonder if she’s grown up now. And that sister-in-law you mentioned, you always say she’s a great beauty, but I haven’t even met her once! Speaking of which, do we need to give a big gift for the baby’s one-month celebration? Oh no, oh no, I wish I had saved some of last month’s salary. What should I do now…”
Liu Shuhan kept chattering endlessly. Cheng Qiuyi found it amusing. “You still have me. Why are you worried?”
Liu Shuhan thought about it and felt it made sense.
Yangfeng Restaurant was located in the city center. On this day, City C’s main roads were gridlocked with traffic, all heading to Yangfeng Restaurant. Although Zhi was secretly one of Cheng Qiuyi’s underlings, he was publicly regarded as a newly rising prominent family in City C. After the decline of the Cheng family, he clearly had the potential to rival the Ye family. Businessmen chase profits, so naturally, they wanted to curry favor with him.
The guests who came were either wealthy or influential. Several streets near the restaurant were under complete lockdown. No one was allowed to enter without an invitation. Parking spaces were scarce. Luxury cars worth tens of millions were casually parked on the roadside, making it livelier than a car show.
In contrast, Cheng Qiuyi and Liu Shuhan’s arrival was quite modest. Their small Audi, worth a little over a million, was stopped by security and meticulously checked several times before confirming the invitation was genuine and letting them in.
Long after this, when Liu Shuhan occasionally brought up the incident, Yuan Ying and her partner were present and laughed heartily. “I said, Cheng Qiuyi, is that little broken car still the one you bought that year? No wonder it’s so old, older than your goddaughter. It should have been scrapped long ago, right? Did you go bankrupt?”
Cheng Qiuyi just smiled.
Back to the present.
Cheng Qiuyi was wearing an evening gown and found it inconvenient to drive, so she specially called a trustworthy person to act as a temporary driver. As soon as the car stopped, Zhi, who had sharp eyes, came to greet them.
Cheng Qiuyi got out of the car first. She wore a nude pink, off-the-shoulder, mermaid-style dress. Her long hair was tied up, exposing her smooth forehead. Black eyeliner lightly winged up at the corner of her eyes, giving an accidental glance a fatally seductive look.
“Miss, you finally arrived,” Zhi said happily.
“Were you afraid I’d break my promise?” Cheng Qiuyi smiled and quickly walked to the other side of the car. She opened the door, bent down, and extended her hand, palm up, to the person inside the car. “Princess Log, your knight is here to escort you.”
Liu Shuhan was uneasy. “Qiuyi, you didn’t say… that so many people would be here.”
“How would I know?” Cheng Qiuyi took her wrist and pulled her out. “Alright, come down quickly. Didn’t you want to meet my beautiful sister-in-law?”
Liu Shuhan was forcefully pulled out of the car by Cheng Qiuyi. She smiled awkwardly at Zhi. “Congratulations, congratulations.”
She was wearing an evening gown in the same color scheme as Cheng Qiuyi, but it was a strapless gauze dress with a textured drape to the skirt, embroidered with simple flowers. Her hair was half-up, draped over the back of her head. Her eyes were very round. Even in such a formal gown, she didn’t look stiff, exuding a playful charm. Zhi sincerely complimented her. “Miss Shuhan, you look beautiful today.”
Liu Shuhan was embarrassed by his gaze and instinctively hid behind Cheng Qiuyi. “Stop teasing me.” This was her first time attending such a banquet, and her first time wearing a strapless dress. Before coming, she had only heard online gossip about various celebrities’ dresses being stepped on, causing wardrobe malfunctions. So, she nervously kept an eye on the zipper on her back, terrified of having an embarrassing incident.
