Becoming a Confidence Coach to an Arrogant Director - Chapter 19
Chapter 19: Cuddles
Avoiding the rush hour, the car drove steadily toward Huayuan Food City. The closer they got to the dinner spot, the more anxious Yuan Yishan felt. Her A.I. electronic brain was filled with all sorts of chaotic thoughts.
The little fairy was also infected by her restlessness.
Host, Host!
“What is it? Can’t you see I’m stressed out?”
I’m sorry, Host. I just wanted to say that if you’re really that worried about your user, you can enhance your connection with them through ‘that way.’
“What way?”
Well…
The little guy was hesitant.
“Spit it out!”
Well, you can ‘cuddle’ with your user like you did before to enhance your performance.
It only gave a hint before quickly hiding away.
Yuan Yishan thought for a moment. It wasn’t a bad idea, but to just cuddle out of the blue, she would have to be prepared for a beating.
The car stopped in the underground garage. Gu Jin had just gotten out and walked a few steps when Morale Booster Yuan chased after her.
“Sister, wait!”
Gu Jin turned around.
“Didn’t I tell you to wait in the car?”
Morale Booster Yuan didn’t say anything. She just took a step forward, stood on her tiptoes, and hugged her user tightly.
Director Gu was taken aback by the sudden embrace.
Before she could react, Yuan Yishan rubbed a protruding part of her A.I. body against Gu Jin’s soft spot.
Beep, shared mode activated. The host can now monitor the user’s living patterns within a 1,000-meter radius for a short period of time.
The subtle physical contact made Gu Jin feel uncomfortable. She pushed Yuan Yishan away, and a faint pink blush appeared on her pale face.
She was about to say something, but Yuan Yishan spoke first in her sweet voice.
“A farewell hug! Goodbye, Sister!”
Director Gu’s eyes widened in anger. Morale Booster Yuan waved her hand and ran off.
…
In the car, Yuan Yishan listened to the two people in the Japanese restaurant talking. There was nothing unusual. It was mostly Ji Xiu talking, and Gu Jin listening in silence, occasionally responding to her questions.
Morale Booster Yuan started to feel sleepy from listening. She leaned her electronic brain against the passenger seat and closed her eyes to rest.
Since arriving in this world, she seemed to have had very few comfortable experiences of living a normal life. She wondered if her parents in the real world knew that she was in the ICU.
Yuan Yishan was a true “southern drifter.” Her hometown was in Gansu, a poor and remote area. She failed her college entrance exam and ended up in a computer science major. Her studies weren’t great, so she ended up in a training company for further education during her senior year internship.
After four months of grueling training, she signed with a small company in the south and worked her way up for seven or eight years until she was hired by Zhongxun Group, one of the top companies in the country. She became the only girl in her village with a monthly salary of 30,000 to 40,000 yuan, which brought pride to her family in a small, male-dominated county.
But her good luck didn’t last long, and she ended up dedicating her life to the country’s IT industry on the day of the Mid-Autumn Festival reunion. It was a pity she was the only child. Yuan Yishan felt an inexplicable sadness and depression when she thought of her parents crying by her bedside.
Her family was poor when she was a child, and many families had feudal ideas of favoring boys over girls, but her parents resisted the pressure from others and insisted on not having a second child. She grew up with a carefree childhood, pampered by her two elderly parents.
Now her parents were old, but instead of enjoying their daughter’s care, they had to cry over their unconscious daughter in a hospital bed.
At this moment, Yuan Yishan couldn’t help but wonder if her hard work and dedication to her career were to make her parents proud or to bring them more trouble. Was it worth it? Was it really worth it?
Unknowingly, her emotions fueled her internal programs. A tear glistened in her beautiful lychee eyes. Yuan Yishan subconsciously wiped away the wetness from the corners of her eyes.
For the sake of her parents and her family, she had to find a way to go back!
But what about the hundreds of millions of points and her user?
Director Gu was still injured. She was a person who was always serious and aloof, but the moment she protected her, even though she was in so much pain, a look of satisfaction appeared on her face for the first time. The rapidly increasing satisfaction points were the most genuine proof of that.
For such a kind girl who would protect a person who was a little bit nice to her with her life, should she really do whatever it took to gain favor from her to achieve her goal?
Yuan Yishan’s thoughts were in turmoil.
Thump, thump, thump…
Someone was knocking on the car window.
Gu Jin had walked around to the passenger seat and signaled for the person inside to get out. She couldn’t drive. She had had a lot of wine.
Driver Yuan helped her user into the passenger seat, buckled her seatbelt, and drove smoothly.
She occasionally glanced over. Director Gu’s head was resting on the headrest, and she was lying there quietly. Her phoenix eyes were slightly closed, and her expression was aloof, but she was unusually docile.
Yuan Yishan smiled. Her Director Gu was no longer the aloof girl who pushed everyone away. At this moment, she was truly warm.
Gu Jin noticed the faint light on her. A hint of peevishness appeared on her expressionless face.
“Aren’t you driving? Why are you looking at me?”
Yuan Yishan looked at the adorable Director Gu and started spouting nonsense, with one teasing remark after another.
“Sister is so pretty. It makes me happy just looking at you. I want to look at you a little longer!”
Director Gu’s long, narrow phoenix eyes didn’t even open. She just pretended to be serious.
“Don’t look!”
“My eyes are in my head anyway. I’ll look if I want to!”
Director Gu turned her head, leaned in a different direction, and ignored her completely. She was as arrogant yet cute as a little princess.
Yuan Yishan’s heart softened as if it had found a temperamental little kitten.
With the A.I. program’s advanced controls, the car drove through one traffic light after another, passing through the brightly lit city center.
Her previously tangled emotions, wrapped in the gentle night, seemed less cold and lonely as she watched the person next to her confidently surrender herself to a machine.
…
In the underground garage, Morale Booster Yuan elegantly and gentlemanly opened the car door and carefully helped her user, but she was gently pushed away.
“Get away from me. I don’t want you to touch me!”
Director Gu had a little wine, and her usual aloofness and reservedness now came out one word at a time, sounding more like she was whining.
Morale Booster Yuan shamelessly went after her, eagerly pressing the elevator button, opening the door, and finding slippers for her. The service was impeccable.
Director Gu was exhausted. As soon as she entered, she collapsed onto the sofa, not even wanting to take a shower.
Morale Booster Yuan ran over and tried to lift her clothes. She wasn’t allowed to, and a hand slapped her fair hand.
“Go away!”
“Oh, I’m just looking at your wound. What are you thinking, young lady?”
Director Gu watched her with the wary eyes of a kitten, as if guarding against a wolf.
Yuan Yishan had the illusion that her user was about to bare her little fangs at any second.
An A.I. and a little kitten were in a standoff. After a minute, the smart A.I. won.
After a long day of high-intensity work, Director Gu was exhausted. The bl00d on her bandage had already clotted.
When Yuan Yishan peeled off the layers, the owner of the bandage visibly flinched in pain.
Morale Booster Yuan carefully changed the dressing for Director Gu. Since her user shouldn’t get wet in her current state, she could only use a hot towel to wipe her down.
Yuan Yishan had just reached out her hand when Gu Jin sat up warily.
“Get away from me!”
“I’ll just wipe you down. You’ll be more comfortable.”
“No need!”
Yuan Yishan: …
Why does this person react like this every time she sees a towel?
Morale Booster Yuan didn’t insist. She went to the kitchen to make a bowl of brown sugar water to replenish her user’s energy. When she came out, Gu Jin was already sound asleep.
Yuan Yishan had been busy all day and hadn’t gained a single point. She slumped against the corner of the sofa, guarding her user.
The road ahead is long and arduous. I will strive to find my way!
…
Ji Xiu’s flight was the next morning. Before leaving, she left a message for Gu Jin. There was no blessing or sentimental farewell, just a few simple words: “I’m going back now,” followed by an explanation of the work handover. Everything was so calm as if nothing had ever happened.
Yuan Yishan felt that the crisis was resolved too easily, and it didn’t feel real. But it was a relief that the dangerous person was far away from her user, and everyone could relax for a while.
After a brief return to normalcy, the crucial moment of Double Eleven finally arrived.
In recent years, Double Eleven and Double Twelve were battlegrounds for e-commerce companies, and every programmer had their own tough fight to face.
On the night before Double Eleven, a red banner at Yuan Sheng Electronics read, “Soldiers and horses may not move, but provisions go first. Let’s win the Double Eleven battle.” The employees sat in rows, staring intently at their computer screens, praying that the servers wouldn’t crash and no unforeseen bugs would appear.
Morale Booster Yuan was busy calming down every male colleague. When she went to Gu Jin’s office, Director Gu was pulling an all-nighter with a face mask on, her fingers rapidly typing on the keyboard.
Seeing her come in, she quickly switched the code on her editor, gave her a serious glance, and said coldly, “Aren’t you going to run your ‘act cute’ program? What are you doing here?”
Morale Booster Yuan slowly walked over, pushed the thermos cup of hot goji berry tea closer to her, and a hint of mischief appeared in her A.I. eyes.
“I came to see if Sister needs any ‘special service’!”
“Get lost!”
“Sister, why are you so rude? Serving Sister is my job!”
Director Gu’s usual good manners stopped her from throwing her keyboard at her head.
Yuan Yishan glanced at the shopping website on her browser.
“Wow, it seems Sister is pretty confident in the code she wrote! You don’t look anxious at all, unlike them!”
Director Gu paused for a second. She slightly raised her phoenix eyes, looked at her, and said calmly, “As long as you don’t pull the power plug, there won’t be any problems.”
Yuan Yishan: …
Why did I have to open my big mouth and get myself in trouble?
