Chapter 35: I’ll Write Code to Support You
After the nurse finished her rounds, she came over with a medical tray to give her a shot. The attending doctor also came to make his daily visit.
“Open your mouth, ah~”
Director Gu cooperated and opened her mouth. Her throat was still very inflamed. In this state, she couldn’t eat at all. She was relying on nutrients and saline, so her recovery would be very slow.
The doctor frowned, did a few other checks, and couldn’t help but remind her before he left.
“In the patient’s current situation, some things should be done in moderation. You should wait for her to recover first. There’s plenty of time in the future, so there’s no need to rush, right?”
Yuan Yishan, a machine, understood the hidden meaning. She lowered her head in embarrassment and agreed in a low voice.
“Understood, Doctor!”
After the attending doctor and the nurse left, when she was alone with her sister, the little one had a mischievous smile on her face again. She repeated the doctor’s words.
“There’s plenty of time in the future, Sister. There’s no need to rush!”
Director Gu’s voice was hoarse and as light as a feather.
“Shameless!”
The Encourager Yuan deliberately leaned closer to listen.
“What? What did you say, Sister? I can’t hear you!”
Director Gu’s face, neck, and ears turned red as if a tide was coming in. She was so embarrassed that she pushed the person away.
“Get away from me. I don’t want to see you!”
The little core machine Yuan, who was pushed away, put her porcelain-like face close to Director Gu’s ear, blowing a warm breeze, and spoke word by word.
“Sister’s voice is so nice. I love it so much. I want to hear it a few more times!”
Director Gu’s ears tingled, and her heart also tingled. She tried her best to restrain her body, and her tone became softer.
“Move away. I’m getting an IV drip! It’s not convenient for me!”
Yuan Yishan didn’t tease her anymore. She moved her small mouth closer, quickly kissed her user on the face, and then ran away quickly.
“I’ll go downstairs to buy breakfast for you, Sister!”
Even after the little darling left, Director Gu’s thoughts were still on that soft kiss. She touched her cheek. Her mouth felt like it was holding a piece of candy. It was so sweet.
After Yuan Yishan bought breakfast, she ran into Boss Pei at the hospital entrance. He was also carrying flowers. When he saw her, his words were full of concern and greetings for his senior sister. The two of them slowly went upstairs, chatting politely along the way.
When they arrived at the hospital room, Director Gu had already entered a light sleep. The corners of her lips were still slightly turned up, and her haggard and sickly face was filled with sincere joy and happiness.
Boss Pei deliberately lightened his footsteps and signaled to Yuan Yishan not to wake her up.
If this machine hadn’t already seen through his scheme, she would have really thought that Director Gu had a kind-hearted junior brother.
The lightly sleeping Director Gu seemed to have sensed that someone else had entered the hospital room. Her tired eyes slowly opened. When she saw that it was Pei He, she didn’t struggle to get up. She just returned to her usual cold and detached state.
“What are you doing here? Aren’t you busy these days?”
Her voice was very hoarse, but her tone had the air of a senior sister.
The junior brother was very caring, and his words were full of understanding and heartache.
“My senior sister is lying here. No matter how busy work is, I have to come and see her. I couldn’t get away yesterday, but as soon as I finished my work today, I rushed over. It’s a good thing Yi Shan is here, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to rest assured!”
The Encourager Yuan looked at his face and didn’t know how many times she rolled her eyes in her heart. She also chimed in.
“Don’t worry, Boss Pei. I’ll take care of Sister. Everything will be fine!”
Director Gu, however, completely ignored his feigned concern. The moment she opened her mouth, it was to express her dissatisfaction with his work arrangements.
“You’re letting Liao Shu handle the R&D department?”
The junior brother paused for a few seconds when he heard Liao Shu’s name. Then, he put on a brave face and patiently explained to her.
“Senior Sister, in the entire R&D department, besides you, Shu’s technical skills are a little stronger, so…”
He was still trying to organize his words.
Director Gu directly cut him off, her tone firm.
“I don’t trust him!”
Boss Pei didn’t get angry. He spoke in a gentle and soft voice, expressing his concerns.
“Senior Sister, it’s been a while since that incident. Double Twelve is coming soon. You’re lying here, and the entire R&D department needs a technically reliable person to be in charge of management. I really don’t have any other choice…”
“Luo Bingchen from the backend is on par with him technically!”
Director Gu directly recommended someone. Boss Pei kept his smile and spoke of his concerns in a good-natured way.
“Da Bing from the R&D department is not bad technically, but this kid is a little reserved. I’m afraid it will be difficult for him to communicate with everyone. Shu is a little better at communication and handling things, so…”
Boss Pei was still preparing his next words. Director Gu simply said.
“Working in tech doesn’t require a lot of talking!”
Boss Pei was completely stumped by her words. At this moment, he didn’t answer. The two of them, like many of their past disagreements, entered a short stalemate. This time, Director Gu didn’t compromise because she always felt that Liao Shu was not reliable.
The Encourager Yuan saw the atmosphere getting colder. She casually grabbed a bottle of yogurt from the bedside table and handed it to her boss.
“Boss Pei, you rushed over and haven’t had breakfast yet, right? This is what I just bought yesterday. Have some! It’s very sweet!”
“Thank you, Yi Shan. I can just eat something at the company later! Your top priority now is to take good care of your senior sister, got it?”
Boss Pei took the opportunity to find an excuse for himself.
The little darling took the hint and started to drive him away.
“Oh, I almost forgot if you didn’t say anything, Boss Pei. The porridge is getting cold. Sister, eat first. Your health is the most important!”
Director Gu was lifted up from the hospital bed by her little core machine and leaned on her with difficulty. She didn’t want to argue with this junior brother anymore. She moved her lips and used her barely audible voice to send him away.
“You go back first. If there are any technical issues, just call. I’ll handle them!”
To be honest, after all her hard work over the years, she really didn’t want the entire R&D department to be paralyzed just because she was sick in bed.
Boss Pei, who had been powerfully refuted, also didn’t get bored. He said a few polite words and left.
To be honest, his visit was just a formality. Who knew that this woman had already found out about Liao Shu being in charge of the R&D department? It seemed that someone on the inside had tipped her off.
He had felt that something was wrong when she treated the R&D department to a meal. He didn’t expect his suspicions to be confirmed. Thankfully, he was prepared and had acted first, otherwise…
…
In the hospital room, the Encourager Yuan was serving Director Gu her meal. She watched her weightless body lean on her, struggling to swallow small spoonfuls of porridge. She, a machine, felt incredibly heartbroken.
Her Director Gu clearly didn’t treat her junior brother as an outsider. She said whatever she wanted, being direct and very assertive. But that black-hearted capitalist, who was an animal in human skin, had been guarding against his senior sister for a long time. Now, he was even more prepared.
Yuan Yishan, a machine, was also struggling at this moment. She wondered if she should just tell her sister everything.
Before, she had wanted to shield her from everything, but ever since she went through the internal program overflow incident, she suddenly realized that some things should be known to the other person. A self-righteous protection would often cause greater harm to the other person when she was powerless.
Currently, the little spiritual entity had suppressed the malicious points that were causing trouble, but what if she, a machine, broke down or went into standby mode at any time? What would her user do if she was unconscious?
After much deliberation, she finally made a tough decision and decided to reveal all the schemes right now. Even though her sister’s body was very weak, she was by her side and would monitor her in real-time, doing whatever she could to prevent her from being sad for too long.
Yuan Yishan fed her a few spoonfuls and then put down the porridge bowl.
“Sister’s throat hurts, so don’t force yourself to eat. We’ll absorb nutrients and saline first. When your throat doesn’t hurt anymore, I’ll personally make porridge for you to drink.”
Director Gu’s bad mood from the earlier argument slowly eased when she looked at the soft and cute person in front of her.
The Encourager Yuan asked for her opinion.
“Sister, do you want to lie down or sit for a while?”
Director Gu shook her head.
She didn’t want to lie down. Even though her body was too tired to have any strength, she felt very secure leaning in her arms.
The Encourager Yuan helped her lean into a more comfortable position and tucked her small strands of hair behind her ears.
“I have a huge secret I want to tell you, Sister. You’re not allowed to be angry after you hear it, okay?”
Director Gu had just drunk some porridge, and her throat was so sore that she couldn’t speak. She glanced at her core machine, gesturing for her to say whatever she wanted and that she wouldn’t be angry.
The Encourager Yuan thought for a moment. She felt that she should be more subtle in telling her so that she would be mentally prepared.
“Sister, your relationship with Boss Pei and Sister Xiu must have been pretty good before, right?”
As soon as Director Gu heard “Sister Xiu,” she instinctively tried to clarify. In her hurry, her sore throat couldn’t even form a complete sentence.
“Me, I with, Ji Xiu, we…”
Yuan Yishan saw her struggling to swallow and felt heartbroken.
“Don’t worry, Sister. Listen to me first!”
She helped the slumped person in her arms up again, making her previously subtle words more direct.
“It’s not about Sister Xiu, it’s about Boss Pei. I feel that even though he seems to have a good relationship with you, he’s been guarding against you behind your back. You treat him as one of your own, but he’s been doing everything he can to sideline you. He’s so disloyal. I don’t want you to work so hard for this kind of person. It’s not worth it at all!”
Director Gu obviously didn’t understand the meaning of her words. She stared at her with a blank look, waiting for her to explain further.
“Actually, when he called me to his office to talk last time, I already figured it out. At that time, Sister Xiu’s incident had just passed. I was afraid you would be sad, so I kept it a secret. Today, when he came, his true colors were even more obvious. It makes me so angry just looking at him!”
The Encourager Yuan had originally wanted to progress step by step, but as she spoke, her thoughts started to jump around. She was not the kind of person who could keep her composure. She hadn’t even finished explaining, but she was already getting all worked up.
Director Gu listened to the gist of it. She looked at her little core machine, who was very, very angry, and couldn’t help but find the little one adorable.
She looked up at her and reached out to pinch her core machine face. Her eyes were as gentle as a spring pool.
“I know!”
The Encourager Yuan reined in her emotions. Her electronic voice was clear and sweet.
“Don’t be sad, Sister. When you’re better, we won’t work for that awful company anymore. We’ll call Brother Li Cheng and them, and we’ll start our own thing. You can be the boss, and I’ll run the business for you!”
Director Gu was already moved and happy in her heart when she heard that her little core machine was planning to run away with her. Her thoughts couldn’t help but wander. When she thought about her having to go out and act cute to get business, her pretty eyes couldn’t help but furrow.
Seeing that she wasn’t saying anything, the Encourager Yuan tried to lead her user to another plan.
“If you think it’s too much trouble, you can just lie flat at home. I can write code to support you, okay?”
When Director Gu heard the words “support you,” her heart was already broken.
And that machine, who seemed to think she was just saying empty words, started to collect some evidence to prove her strength in order to gain her user’s trust.
“You’ve seen me write code, haven’t you, Sister? I’m actually very good. I just pretended not to be so strong to earn points.”
“When we’re no longer at that awful company, I’ll also find a position as a technical director like you, and I’ll earn a lot of money, and I’ll spend it all on you, Sister!”
“I’ll buy you whatever you want, Sister. I will never let you suffer with me!”
“When I earn money, I’ll also take you to all sorts of fun places. We’ll travel, go on vacation, climb mountains, and see the sea. I know so many places…”
The little darling’s mouth was like she had chewed on some gum. She just couldn’t stop talking.
Director Gu heard half of it, and the tip of her nose was so sore that she couldn’t hold back. She buried her face in her arms and wrapped her slender arms tightly around her waist.
She wouldn’t be sad for others. Her heart had long been numb and indestructible decades ago. The only thing that could hurt it was her core machine. But at this moment, her cute cartoon character said she would support her, take her to fun places, and work hard to earn money so that she wouldn’t have to suffer with her.
Suffering, how could this be suffering?
She was like a little angel who pulled her out of a dark swamp and led her into a place with light. She protected her with a pair of beautiful wings, shielding her from the wind and rain on the streets.
Fate had taken everything from her, but it had also given her the best. This was not suffering. This was a blessing.
