Chapter 5: The “No Truth” Command
Long-term insomnia had become a part of Gu Jin’s daily life, and with a new person suddenly in her living room, it became even harder for her to fall asleep.
Around 5 a.m., due to extreme fatigue, she finally managed to drift into a deep sleep.
It was a very restless sleep, so much so that she didn’t even notice her alarm clock going off repeatedly.
Messages on the DingTalk work app came in one after another, and she was finally woken up by several bombarding phone calls from Pei He.
Drowsily, she slid the answer button and her voice was a little hoarse.
“What is it?”
“Sister, did you see the DingTalk messages? What do we do now?”
Feeling the tension from the other end of the line, Gu Jin opened the DingTalk app.
The approval section was filled with red, unread messages.
She clicked on the latest one and saw that it was a resignation application from one of her subordinates. Then she looked at the second one, the third…
“Sister, are you listening to me?”
Receiving such news, Gu Jin was shocked, but her voice remained very indifferent.
“Yes, I saw it.”
Pei He became even more agitated.
“Sister, why aren’t you panicking? It’s just the Double Eleven pre-sale flash sale period, the real Double Eleven hasn’t even started, and half of the people have applied to resign!”
Gu Jin rubbed her throbbing temples, as calm as a stranger who had no stake in the matter.
“Mhm, I know. I’ll be right there.”
After hanging up, she took a minute to compose herself before getting ready.
She opened her bedroom door, and a wonderful aroma of millet porridge filled the air.
The person in the kitchen had her sleeves rolled up, revealing her slender wrists, and was skillfully flipping an egg pancake in a pan.
Hearing a noise in the living room, she stretched her long neck out and showed a flattering smile.
“Sister, you’re awake! I’ve made breakfast. You can eat it after you’re ready!”
Gu Jin glanced at the person, ignored her, and went straight into the bathroom.
Yuan Yishan cut the egg pancake and arranged it on a plate, sprinkled it with scallions, and brought it out with the bowl of millet porridge.
She stood by the coffee table, rubbing her hands together in anticipation for Gu Jin to come out.
Gu Jin came out after getting ready, ignored the person and the food by the coffee table, and went directly into her bedroom.
She changed into a casual business suit. The classic color made her skin look very fair. The exquisite makeup perfectly covered the dark circles she had accumulated over the years. With a cinnamon-berry colored lipstick, her overall demeanor was finally presentable.
In the living room.
Yuan Yishan saw her come out. She had been too slow to react before, but this time she was extra eager to please. Her voice was an alluring and respectful electronic tone.
“Good morning, Sister. This is the millet porridge and egg pancake I prepared for you. Please enjoy!”
Gu Jin didn’t even acknowledge her and went straight to the shoe cabinet to change her shoes.
“Sister, are you going out?”
Before Yuan Yishan could finish her cute-sounding sentence, Gu Jin had already changed her shoes and was out the door.
After realizing what had happened, she chased after her.
On the way, the tension in the car was palpable. Yuan Yishan was at her wits’ end.
With no money, she had spent the entire night “wool-gathering” from various apps and websites to barely scrape together enough ingredients to make one breakfast, all to repay the user for her kindness in letting her stay the night, and to improve their relationship.
Who knew the other party would be so ungrateful? She didn’t even look at her colorful and fragrant breakfast. If food couldn’t win over the beauty’s stomach, when would she ever get to 100 million points…
…
On the 4th floor of the R&D department, most of the workstations were empty.
When Pei He saw Gu Jin arrive, he immediately called her into his office.
From the few remaining colleagues, Yuan Yishan got a general idea of the situation.
It felt like a strike without professional ethics for half of the R&D department to resign at such a critical moment.
From her understanding of the IT development field, even when faced with repeatedly revised demands or difficult clients, programmers generally wouldn’t resort to such a underhanded tactic to retaliate against their company unless they were pushed to their absolute limit.
What kind of treatment would make this group of people suddenly decide to “rise of the apes”?
…
“Forget it, Orange. You’re just a front-end rookie. Don’t stand there and complain. If we don’t hold down the fort, are we supposed to wait for Director Gu to get angry and wipe us all out?”
A group of rookies huddled together for comfort. The usually dull and oppressive office area finally had a bit of life.
Yuan Yishan felt that this was the perfect moment for her to step up as a programmer mood booster.
“Brother, you can’t say that! How can a front-end person be a rookie? In my eyes, anyone who can code is a god. Brother, the pages you draw are so good, I’m really envious!”
Beep, congratulations to the host for executing the programmer mood booster’s “No Truth” command. You have gained 10 satisfaction points.
Your current system points are 20 points.
Yuan Yishan: This works?
The guy named Orange, who was just being teased, started to act up again. He jumped on Yuan Yishan’s words and started to joke around.
“Little cutie, you don’t get it! No matter how amazing a programmer is, in Director Gu’s eyes, they’re all rookies!”
From her experience of having her code publicly deleted in the meeting room, Yuan Yishan perfectly understood the implied meaning of the young man’s words. But she still blinked her eyes with a naive expression, pouting her lips as she seriously analyzed the situation.
“Anyway, I just think all the brothers are amazing. A simple div, and you just add a transition, and the page actually moves. It’s so magical! I actually always wanted to be a front-end engineer, but I’m too stupid. I just can’t learn it no matter what!”
Beep, congratulations to the host for executing the programmer mood booster’s “Knowingly Pretend to Be Ignorant” command. You have gained 10 satisfaction points.
Yuan Yishan: ? It’s that easy?
At this moment, she was overjoyed. At this rate, 100 million points would be within reach.
Little Orange saw an opportunity and took it. He spoke in a very flirtatious way.
“I can teach you!”
“Really? Really?”
Yuan Yishan seemed to be encouraged and praised him even more enthusiastically.
“But I’m worried I’m too stupid to learn. Brother, you have to be very patient with me!”
She was just about to move her small stool over.
Beep, detecting that your bound user is extremely agitated. Deducting 29 satisfaction points.
Your current system points are 1 point.
Yuan Yishan: ?
This is unscientific!
Why were 30 points suddenly deducted, leaving only one?
Before Yuan Yishan could recover from the shock, she saw the face of Little Orange, who had been clamoring to teach her how to code, turn a spectrum of colors.
“D-Director Gu…”
She followed his gaze and turned around. Behind her, Gu Jin’s sharp eyes were staring intently at their every move.
Yuan Yishan: …
