Before Going on a Variety Show, the Actress Lost Her Memory - Chapter 12
At 9 PM sharp, Yu Wenyu and Xi Xiuyun’s livestream went live, and the fans who had been waiting eagerly flooded in.
The number of viewers grew exponentially, causing the livestream to crash repeatedly.
Yu Wenyu blinked, staring at the screen as greetings scrolled past so rapidly she almost forgot how to read the characters for “Yu” and “Xi.”
Having spent years at home, she had little experience with online livestreams and had underestimated her and Xi Xiuyun’s popularity.
This was the first time she had witnessed firsthand just how terrifyingly popular they were.
For a moment, she didn’t know how to interact with the fans’ overwhelming enthusiasm.
Xi Xiuyun, who had only recently woken up, leaned against the headboard, watching the livestream from afar. Her gaze, however, remained fixed solely on Yu Wenyu, completely oblivious to the frenzy in the chat.
“Good evening, everyone. I’m so sorry for messing up the livestream you’ve all been looking forward to.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, Sister Xi and I can’t return to the studio yet, so we’re doing this as a makeshift solution. We hope you’ll understand.”
Yu Wenyu, her pale face earnest, sincerely apologized to the fans.
Even casual viewers, let alone Xi Xiuyun and the fans, would have agreed to anything when faced with her obedient demeanor. After all, it wasn’t their fault the livestream had been disrupted in the first place.
“It’s okay, Yu Zai. This isn’t your fault. We’re just glad Best Actress Xi is alright.”
“Is Best Actress Xi leaning back because she’s not feeling well?”
Yu Wenyu, sitting close to the camera, carefully scrolled through the comments. When she saw someone ask about Xi Xiuyun, she immediately replied, “Sister Xi just woke up a little while ago, so we’re not letting her look at the screen yet. But she’ll be answering questions with me later. Feel free to post your questions now! We’ll randomly screenshot them, answer them, and then screenshot more. We’ll do this for about an hour.”
The assistant helped with screenshots and monitoring backend data. If any topics were deemed inappropriate for minors, the livestream could block underage accounts.
Seeing the assistant taking screenshots, Yu Wenyu leaned back slightly, pressing herself against Xi Xiuyun. Just moments ago, Sister Xi had
Yu Wenyu took the phone from the staff member and froze for a moment when she saw the question.
Then, her face flushed crimson, she asked the staff to block the underage accounts.
“Yu Zai’s shy? What’s the question? Is it about doing it multiple times a day?!”
“Aaaah! They blocked the underage accounts! Aaaah, it’s a paid-only question!”
Yu Wenyu glared at Xi Xiuyun, her expression a mix of embarrassment and anger.
Xi Xiuyun was bewildered by the glare. Heaven knows she hadn’t even seen the question—why was Ayu blaming her again?
“When was your first kiss? Who initiated it?” Yu Wenyu enunciated each word clearly, trying to sound like she was reading the news. But her crimson ear tips betrayed her embarrassment.
Understanding dawned in Xi Xiuyun’s eyes. She finally understood why Ayu was angry.
Thinking about their first kiss, Xi Xiuyun scratched the tip of her nose self-consciously.
“Holy sh1t! Which sister is this bold, jumping straight into such a spicy topic?”
“Best Actress Xi just scratched her nose! Is she embarrassed? Was their first kiss that intense?”
Determined to stop hiding behind his wife and freeloading off her fame, Xi Xiuyun decided to take charge of the conversation.
Before Yu Wenyu could hesitate, Xi Xiuyun dropped a bombshell.
“Our first kiss was during the summer break after my freshman year of high school. I initiated it.” But it was Ayu who asked me to.
Xi Xiuyun didn’t say the second part. She knew Yu Wenyu was genuinely shy about such things.
“Wow! Freshman year? They were only sixteen or seventeen back then!”
“They started dating so early?”
“Early romance?!”
“Yu Zai, so Best Actress Xi kidnapped you so young?”
At that moment, Yu Wenyu felt not just shyness, but also a desperate “Help me!” Who could tell her why Sister Xi had jumped in to answer?
She was still debating whether to tell the truth, but Xi Xiuyun had left her with barely a shred of dignity. Thank goodness she hadn’t revealed that Yu Wenyu had initiated it.
“Well, that’s… sort of right. But we weren’t dating back then. We only got together on the night I turned eighteen, right before we graduated high school.
Minors shouldn’t follow our example. We’ve blocked minors from this stream, so please don’t record or share this clip,” Yu Wenyu explained.
She glanced at Xi Xiuyun and saw a clear smile in her eyes.
She did this on purpose! How could she!
Yu Wenyu’s cheeks puffed up slightly in anger, but the effect was subtle. She looked more like she was pouting than truly angry.
Xi Xiuyun remained completely oblivious to her “mistake.” Out of the camera’s view, she reached out and wrapped her arm around Yu Wenyu’s slender waist, pulling her closer.
Yu Wenyu struggled briefly but, fearing the livestream viewers would notice, eventually relented, leaning almost imperceptibly into Xi Xiuyun’s embrace.
“Sister Xi and I have a deeper connection than you might think,” Yu Wenyu began. “We’ve grown up together since childhood. Sister Xi has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My mom told me that the first time I saw Sister Xi, I declared I wanted to marry her. Little did I know, that dream would actually come true.”
Xi Xiuyun smiled faintly, straightening her posture and leaning forward to nuzzle Yu Wenyu, their bodies now pressed so close they seemed inseparable.
She recalled their first meeting as children. The four-year-old Yu Wenyu, still adorably chubby-cheeked, wore a beautiful princess dress. Looking every bit like a fairy-tale princess herself, the moment she saw Xi Xiuyun, she pointed excitedly at her and declared to her mother, “I want to marry this sister!”
“Best Actress Xi is smiling! Waaah, wanting to marry her at first sight—this is such a breathtaking love story!”
“Am I the only one curious about how their first kiss happened?”
“They got together right after turning eighteen! Aaaah, I’m dying of happiness!”
Seeing the persistent questions about their first kiss, Yu Wenyu pursed her lips but eventually answered.
“That’s why I always listened to Sister Xi. She talked to me about this once, asking if I wanted to date and that’s why I wasn’t studying properly. I was so angry! How dare she doubt me! She’s always surrounded by girls, claiming they’re asking questions, but their eyes are practically glued to her face.”
This was actually the first time they’d ever discussed this. Hearing Yu Wenyu’s jealous tone, Xi Xiuyun grew curious about what Yu Wenyu had been thinking back then.
“So, the kiss was driven by jealousy?”
“But their relationship wasn’t exactly innocent back then either, right? Would you and your best friend kiss out of jealousy?”
Indeed, Xi Xiuyun and Yu Wenyu’s relationship had never been entirely innocent. Their closeness far exceeded that of typical best friends.
It wasn’t until Yu Wenyu’s coming-of-age ceremony that she learned their elders had long assumed they were already dating. They were both girls, and the adults trusted they wouldn’t cross any boundaries before adulthood, so they never said anything.
Even when Yu Wenyu was just seven or eight years old and had no romantic feelings for Xi Xiuyun, her well-meaning mother had already told her friends that her daughter was always clinging to her girlfriend.
Heaven knows how she felt, being labeled with such a heavy title at such a young age.
