Before Going on a Variety Show, the Actress Lost Her Memory - Chapter 2
“Are you saying my wife has forgotten part of her memories?” Yu Wenyu asked, her voice barely a whisper, though she struggled to maintain composure.
The doctor had just completed a more detailed examination of Xi Xiuyun, and the news wasn’t good.
“Miss Yu, it’s not so much forgetting as having her memories partially replaced by her imagination. Certain deeply ingrained obsessions have manifested as substitutions in her current memory,” the doctor explained, choosing his words carefully as he observed Yu Wenyu’s growing distress.
“The ‘nonsense’ you mentioned earlier might not be entirely baseless. It likely stems from topics discussed between you and Xi Xiuyun in your past life together. Xi Xiuyun seems to have been particularly fixated on these subjects, developing… elaborate fantasies around them. These fantasies, having become too deeply ingrained, have now replaced actual memories.”
“So, she’s treating her imagination as reality? Her current words and actions are more indicative of her true inner thoughts?” Yu Wenyu asked, organizing her thoughts aloud.
“Yes, Miss Yu. Xi Xiuyun’s condition is difficult to predict. Her daily life shouldn’t be significantly affected, and her memories haven’t deviated too drastically from reality.”
“It’s just a partial memory loss concerning you. As for the recovery period, we can’t give you a definite timeline.”
Yu Wenyu lowered her lashes, the thick fringe obscuring the complex emotions in her eyes. She pressed her lips together and asked about some practical matters before leaving.
If this is the real Xi Xiuyun, was everything before just an act? Was it fun to deceive me?
Yu Wenyu returned to the hospital room to find Xi Xiuyun propped up in bed, a book in her hands.
The gentle breeze seemed to favor beauty, its soft tendrils lifting the stray strands of hair by Xi Xiuyun’s ear, stirring Yu Wenyu’s heart as well.
A peaceful moment, a portrait of beauty. Yu Wenyu gazed at the familiar face, yet found herself unable to feel angry.
“Honey, we still have that variety show recording next week. Should we postpone it?” Yu Wenyu asked gently.
Worried about Xi Xiuyun’s recovery, Yu Wenyu wanted to postpone the show to give her time to rest. After all, they didn’t need to worry about the cancellation fees.
“It’s fine, no need to postpone. I’ll be fully recovered in a week.” Do you really not want to appear on TV with me?
Xi Xiuyun didn’t voice the rest of her thoughts. She knew Yu Wenyu would never do such things; she could feel the genuine affection between them over the years.
Yet the fervent love of youth leaves indelible marks on the heart.
Whenever the topic arose, Xi Xiuyun still felt a pang of lingering jealousy, even though the person involved had long forgotten it.
Yu Wenyu glanced at Xi Xiuyun with a puzzled expression. Isn’t she acting perfectly normal again?
Yu Wenyu’s head throbbed. Which one is the real Xi Xiuyun?
She suddenly realized that after three years of marriage and over two decades of growing up together, she still didn’t truly understand Xi Xiuyun.
Yu Wenyu had stayed by Xi Xiuyun’s side all day without closing her eyes. Now, increasingly exhausted, she simply took off her coat, climbed into bed, and pulled Xi Xiuyun into her arms.
After all, she’s still my wife. What does it matter if it’s real or not? We have a lifetime together. I can figure her out slowly.
Letting go of her worries, Yu Wenyu held her wife close and drifted off to sleep.
Xi Xiuyun watched the sleeping Yu Wenyu, sighing softly. The guardedness in her eyes gradually faded, replaced by a hint of helplessness in her dark pupils.
Looking back over the years, Xi Xiuyun realized that she and Yu Wenyu had always been good together. So why had she reacted so wildly after waking up from the car accident?
And why did the gentle, considerate version of herself in her memories feel so unreal?
Xi Xiuyun leaned closer to Yu Wenyu, gently kissing her soft lips. The familiar restraint surged through her again.
Frowning, Xi Xiuyun wondered why she felt this way.
Yu Wenyu was her wife, and their relationship hadn’t been platonic these past three years. So why had she felt that maddening urge to hold back just now?
Xi Xiuyun reached out and touched Yu Wenyu’s cheek. At this close distance, she could see the fine downy hairs on Yu Wenyu’s flawless skin, not even a visible pore.
Though Yu Wenyu hadn’t said anything, Xi Xiuyun sensed that she had likely forgotten something, which explained the current awkwardness.
But what could she do about it?
Xi Xiuyun had been awake for a while now. With Yu Wenyu’s soft body in her arms and her familiar scent surrounding her, she drifted off to sleep.
