Before Going on a Variety Show, the Actress Lost Her Memory - Chapter 27
At 8:00 AM, the sun had already risen in C City. Office workers, sneaking a peek at their phones, discovered that the live broadcast of Accompanying the Rest of Our Lives had already begun.
“They’re starting earlier than us! I thought they’d wait until their flight landed in Yun City.”
“The production team’s up to something—a surprise raid on the guests’ rooms!”
“Alright, I’m heading over to Yu Zai’s stream first.”
“The production team knows how to keep us hooked! Now I’m really curious. What time is their flight anyway?”
“Yu Zai’s schedule says their flight is at 10:30 AM.”
“……”
The live streams under Yu Wenyu and Xi Xiuyun’s accounts had already flooded with viewers, buzzing with speculation. Meanwhile, the production crew knocked on the room door, everyone eager to see who would answer and what clues they might uncover.
With a click, the door swung open, revealing Xi Xiuyun with a disheveled, bird’s-nest hairstyle—though not quite as dramatic as a bird’s nest, just wildly tousled.
Xi Xiuyun’s expression remained impassive, showing no curiosity about the production team’s arrival. Her face flushed with pressure marks, and a clear bite mark adorned her cheek.
Her silk pajamas were crumpled and rumpled. After a moment of studying the crew, Xi Xiuyun asked, “May I ask what brings you here?”
Perhaps Xi Xiuyun’s demeanor was too calm, showing no concern for her current disheveled state, or perhaps the scene before them was too shocking. The staff member froze momentarily, unable to respond to Xi Xiuyun’s question.
After a moment, the staff member snapped out of their daze and asked awkwardly, “Best Actress Xi, we’re about to board the plane. Would it be convenient for us to film you packing your luggage?”
Xi Xiuyun frowned, her expression turning cold. She didn’t answer. The staff member quickly added, “If it’s not convenient, that’s perfectly fine. We’re just asking as a routine matter. Haha, you must be busy. We won’t disturb you any further.” With that, they hastily retreated with the camera crew.
“Holy crap! At first, I thought it was Yu Zai, but it turned out to be Best Actress Xi! I’ve never seen her like this before, except for her stage makeup and costumes. (Covers face)”
“Is Yu Zai really that fierce?”
“Heh, is this how the daughter of the richest man behaves? I can’t imagine what Xi Xiuyun sees in her. How could someone like her get involved with an actress? And the most absurd thing is that she actually became an actress for someone like that!”
“Why are you being so bitter? Are you a solo stan or just secretly in love with Best Actress Xi?”
“Someone dig into this guy. He probably has unrequited feelings for Best Actress Xi. So what if she likes Yu Zai? Who do you think you are, you little cookie?”
“Let me handle this, fam. I’ll hang him up in the supertopic tonight.”
“Guys, this reeks of a triggered, pathetic man.”
“Nah, he’s just one of us. We men never think we’re worthy of any of them.”
“Men are all trash.”
“Sis, take it easy. I’m just your average yuri knight.”
Sang Qi watched the comments scroll past, every single one defending that b1tch Yu Wenyu. He threw his cigarette down and stomped on it viciously.
That damned woman was still the same as ever, using her face to bewitch people. She’d even seduced Xi Xiuyun with her fox-like sorcery, turning her gay.
Sang Qi gritted his teeth and cursed under his breath. He couldn’t understand it. He was the one who had met Xi Xiuyun first, the most suitable and high-quality man by her side. So why had she chosen a woman in the end?
Just because Xi Xiuyun had returned to China two years earlier? Was that all it took for Yu Wenyu to steal her away? Clinging to Xi Xiuyun since childhood, she had snatched her right out of his grasp. Sang Qi stared at the livestream, his eyes burning with unspoken thoughts.
Meanwhile, Yu Wenyu saw Xi Xiuyun enter the room. Though still a little annoyed that Xiuyun had interrupted her phone call earlier, she couldn’t help but worry if something was wrong.
“What happened?” Yu Maomao asked, peeking out from the bed, her hair sticking up in all directions.
Xi Xiuyun walked to the vanity, picked up a comb, and smoothed out her hair, which Yu Wenyu had ruffled earlier. Then she sat on the edge of the bed and gently combed Yu Wenyu’s hair as well before answering her question. “The production team wants to film us packing our luggage.”
Yu Wenyu frowned and scoffed. “Their real motive isn’t filming us packing. They’re just trying to get some juicy footage.”
Yu Wenyu had always been reluctant to expose her private life to the public. She had shared some personal details earlier as an apology and compensation to her fans, but that didn’t mean she would tolerate their intrusive, boundary-less scrutiny.
Seeing Yu Wenyu’s expression turn cold, Xi Xiuyun reached out to gently stroke her ear, soothingly saying, “These people aren’t worth your concern. Leave this to me. I’ll handle it.”
Hearing this, Yu Wenyu turned to look at Xi Xiuyun, her gaze meeting the woman’s gentle eyes. Yu Wenyu leaned in, wrapping her arms around Xi Xiuyun’s neck and nuzzling her cheek against the crook of Xi Xiuyun’s neck, purring like a cat, a sound that was both coquettish and aggrieved.
A muffled voice came from behind Xi Xiuyun’s ear: “Sister Xi, dear sister, please let me handle this. You’re always the one solving these problems. I want to try too, okay? Please?”
Xi Xiuyun didn’t immediately agree. She knew Yu Wenyu occasionally had mischievous ideas, like a child, but she was used to handling all of Yu Wenyu’s problems, whether personal or professional.
She cherished Yu Wenyu’s complete dependence on her, which made her feel indispensable and momentarily satisfied her base possessiveness.
Only now did Xi Xiuyun realize that it wasn’t Yu Wenyu who couldn’t live without her, but rather she who couldn’t live without Yu Wenyu.
If Yu Wenyu left her, Yu Wenxi would help her solve problems, a PR team would handle crises, and assistants would manage her daily life. Xi Xiuyun wasn’t essential to Yu Wenyu’s existence. If Yu Wenyu ever wanted to leave, what value did Xi Xiuyun have to keep her?
Seeing Xi Xiuyun remain silent for a long moment, Yu Wenyu grew curious and started to rise. But the movement abruptly snapped Xi Xiuyun out of her reverie. Instinctively, she pressed Yu Wenyu back into her arms, her other hand seizing the nape of Yu Wenyu’s neck.
Yu Wenyu was disoriented by the sudden action. “Sister Xi?” she asked.
Xi Xiuyun blinked, as if waking from a dream. “It’s nothing. Just go ahead and do what you need to do.” She pursed her lips, a familiar unease creeping into her heart—a feeling that rarely boded well.
At 10:30 AM, the guests for the Accompanying the Rest of Our Lives filming crew boarded their flight on time. Viewers remarked that the heavens were being unusually cooperative; Flying Cloud City flights were typically delayed half the time, yet this one departed without a hitch.
Two hours later, the plane landed, and Yun City’s picturesque scenery filled the live stream’s frame.
The clear blue sky was so pristine it seemed as if an artist had splashed it with meticulously mixed paint. The few clouds dotting the horizon were pure white, soft, and thick enough to make one want to leap onto them and lie down to see if they were truly as plush as they appeared.
