Before Going on a Variety Show, the Actress Lost Her Memory - Chapter 3
The spring breeze was gentle, and the trees outside the window unfurled new green leaves, exuding a vibrant vitality. All things flourished, and the world seemed to be awash in verdant hues, drawing one into its intoxicating embrace.
Outside the floor-to-ceiling window, harmony reigned. Inside, on the sofa, spring’s fervor intertwined like tender leaves unfurling their branches, glistening with dew, amplifying the season’s vitality.
Yu Wenyu, mindful of Xi Xiuyun’s incomplete recovery, dared not move too much, inadvertently giving the other woman an opportunity to push her boundaries.
Xi Xiuyun, no longer as composed as before, now exuded a subtle control, her movements becoming increasingly overwhelming for Yu Wenyu to endure.
Pinned to the sofa, Yu Wenyu found herself immobilized, yet the cushion propping her up allowed her a clear view of Xi Xiuyun’s actions.
How could she have imagined that Xi Xiuyun would one day become so clingy, clinging to her like a small boat tossed about on the sea?
Though Xi Xiuyun was the one rowing, while Yu Wenyu lay passively in the boat, she was the one left parched with thirst.
Just when she finally persuaded Xi Xiuyun to let her have a sip of water, the other woman deliberately raised the cushion higher, drinking herself into a drunken stupor.
That expression—Yu Wenyu felt her body go limp. Even a fallen immortal, sinking into the mud, couldn’t have looked more pitiful.
That usually cold and aloof face was now flushed with desire, its expression softening into a seductive allure beneath her.
Yu Wenyu felt herself nearing the edge, but Xi Xiuyun suddenly stopped, hovering without fully entering.
A low, husky laugh brushed against her ear, its teasing tone unmistakable, making Yu Wenyu feel utterly wicked.
“Who was it who said I didn’t dare, hmm?”
Xi Xiuyun’s passivity forced Yu Wenyu to take the lead, yet her words left Yu Wenyu suspended between anger and arousal, making her want to get up and leave.
But Xi Xiuyun seemed to anticipate her thoughts. With a swift stroke of the oar, the small boat surged forward, sending Yu Wenyu scrambling to stay seated, terrified of falling into the sea.
Forced to endure the boat’s violent lurching through the waves, Yu Wenyu felt herself growing dizzy.
“Xi Xiuyun, you bastard… Shut up!” Before she could finish, her mouth was silenced, followed by a muffled groan as she braced against an even more ferocious assault of waves.
“I can’t hear you…”
Yu Wenyu felt utterly wronged. If she could turn back time, she would never have provoked Xi Xiuyun in the car. How could she have known that Xi Xiuyun’s personality had changed so drastically, even her habits in bed?
Four hours earlier, Yu Wenyu had helped Xi Xiuyun, who was cleared to leave the hospital, into the arranged car, unknowingly embarking on her own path of no return.
Perhaps because both women had pondered their current dynamic, there was no awkwardness between them.
I’ll see just how many faces Xi Xiuyun has, Yu Wenyu thought. If she’s done playing her part, then I’ll stop pretending to be a meek little lamb too.
Over the years of their marriage, for unspoken reasons, both had concealed their true personalities to some extent, all in the name of maintaining their relationship.
Xi Xiuyun had perfected the role of a gentle, mature woman, while Yu Wenyu had played the part of a doting, affectionate wife, calling her “Sister Xi” and showering her with affection.
They had both meticulously crafted their roles—Xi Xiuyun as the strong, protective figure, and Yu Wenyu as the delicate, easily overwhelmed wife. Now that the facade had crumbled, neither could blame the other.
Ironically, Xi Xiuyun’s sudden car accident had forced them to shed their years-long masks and finally “be honest” with each other.
Xi Xiuyun, noticing Yu Wenyu’s teeth-gritting expression, felt utterly bewildered. What did I do?
But Xi Xiuyun wasn’t overthinking things like Yu Wenyu. Having lost a portion of her memory, she had no recollection of her carefully constructed “persona” from the past few years.
Restless as ever, Xi Xiuyun immediately pulled Yu Wenyu into her arms for a cuddle the moment they were in the car.
Yu Wenyu wore an expression that said, Just as I suspected. Xi Xiuyun, you really are a pervert.
Yu Wenyu had thought Xi Xiuyun had truly become asexual after marriage, and had resigned herself to a life of vegetarianism and Buddhist chanting.
So it was all an act! she thought. I knew someone as unrestrained as Xiuyun before marriage couldn’t suddenly become so reserved afterward. What a show she’s been putting on!
Seeing through Xiuyun’s facade, Yu Wenyu decided to play along. She leaned in close and whispered in Xiuyun’s ear, “Am I wrong, Sister Xi? Are you too scared… or just not up to it?”
Xi Xiuyun raised an eyebrow but remained silent, her gaze both amused and challenging.
Yu Wenyu felt perfectly justified in her teasing. Over the years they’d been together, while they hadn’t exactly experienced “death by s3x,” their intimacy had dwindled. Apart from their first year of marriage, they rarely slept together more than once a week.
She admitted she was deliberately provoking Xiuyun. But considering Xiuyun had just been discharged from the hospital, she wasn’t about to act like an animal. This was purely about getting a verbal jab in as payback.
In the early days of their relationship, perhaps due to their youth or the distance between them, they had been inseparable whenever they had the chance. But after marriage, as they spent more time together, their passion gradually cooled. Yu Wenyu had slowly come to believe that Xiuyun simply wasn’t that interested in physical intimacy.
Whether it was the initial infatuation of new love or simply to satisfy her own desires, Yu Wenyu found herself hesitant to appear too eager after marriage, even as their intimacy dwindled.
When the occasional urge arose, she would either suppress it or take care of it herself. It wasn’t that she didn’t crave Xi Xiuyun’s body; rather, her wife was sexually reserved, and Yu Wenyu didn’t want to disregard Xi Xiuyun’s feelings.
Moreover, her established persona in their marriage was that of a “pure and innocent little white flower who only knows how to call out ‘Wife’,” a classic “seductive uke” archetype.
After all, Xi Xiuyun was quite fond of this dynamic. Though she occasionally tried to reverse roles, Yu Wenyu’s lack of skill meant Xi Xiuyun usually preferred taking the lead herself rather than letting Yu Wenyu torment her.
Yu Wenyu thought she was just teasing, but Xi Xiuyun saw things differently.
When Yu Wenyu had whispered in her ear earlier, her warm breath had enveloped Xi Xiuyun’s earlobe.
The familiar, pleasant scent of Yu Wenyu’s body lingered in the air. They were so close, Yu Wenyu’s soft, unguarded body pressed against her.
Xi Xiuyun gazed at Yu Wenyu, still grinning foolishly. She said nothing, but soon enough, Yu Wenyu would learn whether she truly dared to follow through.
What Yu Wenyu had just said was: “Sister Xi, you seem so eager. Has it been almost two weeks since you last touched me? Are you getting impatient? Should I give you what you want later?”
