Before Going on a Variety Show, the Actress Lost Her Memory - Chapter 9
The tender spring sunlight stirred longing in the heart. As evening approached, the setting sun bled crimson across the sky, its fiery glow seeping into Yu Wenyu’s soul.
Years had passed, yet the threads of affection remained as strong as ever.
Bathed in the fading light, Yu Wenyu gazed at Xi Xiuyun’s silhouette, slender and graceful, her straight back radiating a unique, aloof dignity.
Xi Xiuyun looked at Yu Wenyu with the same tender affection as before, but this time, Yu Wenyu caught a glimpse of desolate loneliness in her eyes.
The overwhelming weight of that gaze pressed down on Yu Wenyu, stealing her breath. A sharp pain pierced her heart.
Her eyes chased after that fleeting expression, but Xi Xiuyun had already concealed it without a trace.
That look…
“Ayu, come here.”
Yu Wenyu snapped back to reality, gripping Xi Xiuyun’s outstretched hand tightly as she was led toward the “surprise for the wife” the production team had requested.
The setting sun cast golden rays across Yu Wenyu’s delicate features, bathing her in a warm, radiant glow that revealed a hint of childlike innocence.
Xi Xiuyun led Yu Wenyu to a glass-walled room.
Through the translucent glass, Yu Wenyu glimpsed a piano inside. Her heart leaped, a wave of bittersweet emotion washing over her.
It had been so many years since she had touched a piano…
Xi Xiuyun led Yu Wenyu to the piano and sat her down. She gently stroked Yu Wenyu’s face, her touch tender and precious.
Tears welled up in Yu Wenyu’s eyes, glistening and wet. She gazed at Xi Xiuyun with a hint of childlike obedience and pleading.
Xi Xiuyun sighed, suppressing the prickly ache in her heart, and averted her gaze from Yu Wenyu’s eyes.
“Ayu, I want to dance for you one more time. Will you accompany me on the piano?”
Xi Xiuyun asked cautiously, her voice tinged with a rare humility.
The thorn that had always stood between them had only retreated temporarily with the passage of time.
Memories of their past brought back an excruciating pain. They had tormented each other relentlessly, wasting years in the process.
Though they eventually reunited, neither ever spoke of that dark chapter again.
Yu Wenyu stopped playing the piano, and Xi Xiuyun never danced again.
“Sister Xi… you don’t have to do this…” Yu Wenyu realized that the memories she had deliberately avoided might be the very past of Xi Xiuyun she had discarded.
The shocking bloodstains, the hysterical arguments in the rain, the madness, the intensity.
Those memories, tainted with the musty, dark, and obscure, surged into Yu Wenyu’s mind, leaving a metallic taste of bl00d in her throat.
“Ayu, let’s try again, okay?” Xi Xiuyun’s pleading gaze softened Yu Wenyu’s resolve.
They had been trapped in that memory for too long, forgetting to move forward, cocooning themselves in self-imposed prisons. Perhaps it was time to let go.
Yu Wenyu took Xi Xiuyun’s hand and pressed a reverent kiss to it.
“Xi Xiuyun, I love you.”
The gentle piano music flowed softly, stirring memories etched into their very bones. Almost simultaneously, both women’s eyes welled with tears.
Xi Xiuyun stepped back, unfolding the movements she had rehearsed countless times in her mind.
A hidden camera recorded everything, not for live broadcast, but for future episodes that would later ignite a firestorm of controversy.
In the room, only the two of them remained: one quietly playing the piano, the other dancing with languid grace and seductive charm.
It was a bewitching allure that seemed incongruous with Xi Xiuyun’s usual demeanor, yet now fit her perfectly.
The memories, like thorns in her heart, pierced through the music, relentlessly reminding Xi Xiuyun of the absurd thing she had once done to Yu Wenyu.
Her forceful entry, absurd and mad, left indelible “evidence of her crime” on Yu Wenyu, but it also left those marks on Xi Xiuyun herself.
Xi Xiuyun didn’t dare hope for Yu Wenyu’s forgiveness. For years, she had lived in constant fear of Yu Wenyu leaving her, trapping herself in a stubborn box.
In the darkness, extreme pathologies and illnesses festered. She struggled to save herself, yet still yearned for the sun.
Every moment, she craved Yu Wenyu’s closeness, hoping to use the sunlight radiating from her to alleviate her guilt.
But with each step, she sank deeper into the mire. Xi Xiuyun was tormented, longing to see Yu Wenyu, when she caught sight of the swaying ornament hanging from the ceiling.
Xi Xiuyun froze, then watched as the ornament plummeted.
Her pupils constricted, and she couldn’t even scream. She lunged forward, pulling Yu Wenyu away just in time.
Relief washed over her, but a searing pain exploded in her head, and the surrounding sounds faded into the distance.
She heard Yu Wenyu’s heart-wrenching cries. She wanted to reassure her not to worry, but her consciousness blurred, and she couldn’t utter a word.
