Begging the Female Lead to Let Me, a Salted Fish, Go (GL) - Chapter 11
Embarrassment wasn’t the same as death.
After seeing Shen Ying’s half-smile, Gong Zhi cleared her throat. “Ranran, I know, I’ll go tomorrow.”
“You better hurry. Even if the ‘Exterminator’ loves you, she’s not going to let you off the hook easily.”
Gong Zhi didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “Professor Xu is just a serious and responsible person, not a psychopath,” she said, defending her teacher.
“Okay, okay. But what have you been doing for the past two days?” Jiang Ran muttered on the other end of the line.
What have I been doing? Saving the world, of course!
But Gong Zhi couldn’t bring herself to say anything so embarrassing and melodramatic. She found an excuse to placate her friend and hung up the phone. After hanging up, she was about to sigh and slump into the seat when she suddenly realized that there was someone else there. It was no longer a situation where she could do whatever she wanted.
Gong Zhi instinctively straightened up. “Let’s go back.”
Shen Ying couldn’t help but laugh. It had to be said that only when Gong Zhi was relaxed and didn’t have to face her would she show the youthfulness and laziness that was fitting for her age.
But that’s only when I’m not around. Shen Ying’s eyes darkened. What is it about me that makes Gong Zhi so cautious?
If Gong Zhi had truly been reborn, she could have relied on her status as the most pampered little princess in the family to crush Shen Ying without any hesitation.
There was no need for her to be so nice to her, was there?
Shen Ying couldn’t figure it out, but she wasn’t in a hurry. She knew what her most pressing task was at the moment.
The two of them returned home.
The house’s decor was so cozy that Gong Zhi couldn’t help but relax, and Shen Ying’s tense nerves also seemed to loosen up.
“Okay… so, I have to go to school tomorrow. I won’t be able to take you to the company. I’ll have Brother Zhang take you. I’ll also notify the CEO’s office in advance. Don’t worry, even though the company is run by a professional manager, my brother chose her. We’ve gotten along pretty well all these years.”
Gong Zhi thought for a moment. “But Brother Zhang has a few other things to do tomorrow, so he probably can’t stay for too long.”
“That’s fine. It’s enough for Brother Zhang to just drop me off. It’s not good to be seen taking the car back and forth.”
Gong Zhi nodded. She told Shen Ying everything else she could think of, and Shen Ying nodded, showing that she understood.
They sat across from each other, in silence for a moment.
They had only known each other for a few days, and there was nothing they could truly connect on.
Gong Zhi, feeling helpless, took out her phone and showed it to Shen Ying.
Shen Ying nodded and stood up. Gong Zhi let out a small sigh of relief and started making a phone call.
She was, of course, calling her professional manager. Since her coming-of-age party, her father had given her the company. She had been dealing with her professional manager for four years, and their business relationship had been pleasant.
Gong Zhi was giving the manager a general rundown on Shen Ying’s situation when a cup was placed beside her. She looked down and saw that it was a cup of milk at the perfect temperature.
Gong Zhi’s eyes curved into a smile. She looked at Shen Ying and mouthed “thank you.”
Gong Zhi looked a little soft in that moment, with a cute, rosy face that still had a hint of baby fat, like a small apple transitioning from unripe to ripe.
Seeing her made people feel better for no reason.
Shen Ying also smiled at Gong Zhi, then went upstairs. She seemed to deliberately lighten her footsteps, moving silently. She quickly turned the corner of the stairs and was gone.
It had to be said that the female lead was the female lead of this world. She was beautiful, and her smile was even more so.
…And she looked even more like that person.
It was no wonder her “cheating” brother, who she didn’t know whether to call a lovesick fool or a playboy, liked her and was so attached to the female lead in the novel.
Gong Zhi was lost in thought for a moment. The sound of the phone brought her back to reality, and she continued to talk to the person on the other end.
It wasn’t until she hung up the phone that Gong Zhi realized her throat was a little dry.
She picked up the milk, took a slow sip, and looked up at the ceiling. After a while, she nudged the system in her mind. [By the way, since the world is a book, what’s the ending for the ‘white moonlight’?]
[Because she couldn’t win the male lead’s heart, the ‘white moonlight’ decided to go back to her country and never return to this sad place again,] the system replied. [The ‘white moonlight’s’ family’s business is abroad, so she just went back.]
Gong Zhi chuckled. [I remember the fiancée’s family was absorbed, and her sister was practically exiled. But things were pretty good for the ‘white moonlight.’ She was completely unharmed; she just went back.]
The system was a little confused. [What are you trying to say, host?]
What does this have to do with the story?
[Nothing. I’m just feeling a little emotional.] Gong Zhi stretched. [I’m going to sleep, too. I have a busy day tomorrow.]
Gong Zhi went upstairs, still holding the cup of warm milk. She paused briefly in front of Shen Ying’s room, raised the cup in a toast to the door. Even though the person inside was unaware, it didn’t dampen Gong Zhi’s good mood. She chugged the rest of the milk and went into her own room.
Shen Ying was unaware of everything happening outside her room. She was sitting in front of her computer, browsing stock information. She didn’t have much money to work with, but she knew that from now until the next decade would be a time of great change, and many geniuses would emerge. There were some people she could start getting in touch with now.
The computer’s faint light flickered, and the lines on the charts moved up and down. With the lights off in the room, she sat in front of the computer, staring at the screen until late at night.
The next day, Gong Zhi woke up according to her internal clock. She glanced at Shen Ying’s room, the door was tightly shut. She shook her head, ignored it, finished her healthy breakfast, checked the weather forecast, grabbed an umbrella, and drove to school.
Her classes today weren’t too demanding. Gong Zhi walked into the classroom on time, where Jiang Ran was already waiting for her. Seeing her, she immediately waved.
Gong Zhi walked over to her, laid out her books and notebook, and then looked at Jiang Ran’s lecture notes. Gong Zhi was always meticulous and very focused.
Jiang Ran muttered beside her, “You’re finally here. Everyone was starting to think you were possessed by some little demon.”
“I’m a woman. What little demon could I possibly have?” Gong Zhi chuckled. She lowered her head and took notes, reading ten lines at a time, completely unaffected.
“Finding a woman is easy, but finding a woman with abs is hard,” Jiang Ran sighed. “A lot of girls at our school are eyeing you.”
Gong Zhi didn’t even respond to her this time.
Jiang Ran, feeling helpless, just propped her chin on her hands and started chattering, from the “Exterminator” to school gossip, and then to the Gong family. “I heard your brother is interested in a girl again?”
“That’s not true,” Gong Zhi finally looked up at her friend and gently tapped Jiang Ran’s head with her pen. “Stop spreading baseless rumors and listening to gossip all the time… Who told you this?”
“Oh, who else but Weng Nan? He said your brother found a girl who’s just like that one,” Jiang Ran said, winking at Gong Zhi. “Your brother is so hopelessly devoted.”
“‘Hopelessly devoted’ and still looking for other girls?” Gong Zhi laughed, squinting her eyes. “That guy from the Weng family, his mouth is getting looser and looser.”
She needed to find a time to deal with him properly. He was supposed to be a devoted second male lead, but she hadn’t seen any sign of it.
Just then, the bell rang, and class began.
Even though the “Exterminator” had a fierce reputation, she was generally pretty good to Gong Zhi. Coupled with Gong Zhi’s sincere apology and promise not to do it again, she was let off the hook quickly.
She didn’t have any more classes for the rest of the day. Gong Zhi looked at the sky, which was overcast. It looked like it was going to rain again. Gong Zhi was debating whether to go home or not when Jiang Ran dragged her to the cafeteria.
But while they were eating, it started pouring.
Gong Zhi stared at the rain for a moment, then stood up and walked outside.
Jiang Ran hadn’t finished eating yet and yelled after her, “Hey, wait for me! Where are you going?”
“I have a little cat at home that I’m worried about,” Gong Zhi replied.
She got in her car and mentally prompted the system to find the route to the company. While the system was working slowly, it said: [The host is very invested in the female lead.]
[That’s not true,] Gong Zhi replied, turning the steering wheel in the direction the system indicated. [She gave me milk, and I’m giving her an umbrella in return. It’s only fair.]
It’s only because she seems like a pitiful little cat. Besides, the milk she made was just the way I like it.
