Being a Tutor to a Rich, Psychopathic Young Lady - Chapter 26
Chapter 26
The sea breeze blew in her ears, and Shi Mingyue was held captive by Xiao Dengqu’s hands. Her name was carried by the sea breeze, sometimes close, sometimes far away.
Sometimes it would fall into her ears, and sometimes it would be blown away.
The voice was getting closer and closer. Shi Mingyue squeezed Xiao Dengqu’s shoulder hard. Xiao Dengqu retaliated by biting Shi Mingyue. Shi Mingyue frowned in pain and punched her shoulder.
Shi Mingyue’s heart was pounding. It was so painful that she clenched her fists. She could almost feel the sound of footsteps getting closer on the sand.
Xiao Dengqu licked Shi Mingyue’s lips. Shi Mingyue had been struggling just now, so she hadn’t been able to kiss her properly. Shi Mingyue had also bitten her lip, and the taste of bl00d spread in her mouth.
Xiao Dengqu tilted her head. Cheng Jin, who was holding her phone with the flashlight on in the distance, froze. She saw it. Her cousin saw them kissing secretly.
Hmm, her previously sullen heart was finally happy.
But, a sharp pain shot through her heart. Shi Mingyue’s hand pressed against her chest and punched her. Xiao Dengqu frowned in pain and let go of her lips. Xiao Dengqu said, “She didn’t see anything.”
Shi Mingyue glared at her, wanting to scold her. At this moment, a light that wasn’t very bright shone over. Cheng Jin’s voice was full of anger. “Xiao Dengqu, what are you doing?”
Shi Mingyue turned her head, her hand on her thin lips, wiping them hard. Cheng Jin walked over quickly and pulled Shi Mingyue behind her. She glared at Xiao Dengqu, a fire burning in her chest. If she hadn’t seen wrong… how could she have seen wrong? The bl00d on Xiao Dengqu’s lips was still on Shi Mingyue’s lips.
Shi Mingyue took several steps back. Xiao Dengqu didn’t like the sudden distance. She asked in confusion, “What’s wrong? I just fell, and sand got in my eyes. The teacher was just blowing it out for me.”
As she spoke, she pouted her broken lip for Cheng Jin to see. “Hmph, what do you think, cousin? What do you think we were doing?”
Cheng Jin’s lips parted slightly, and she was speechless.
A glowing wave rose from the sea, and the dark night was supported by blue light. The waves crashed against the reefs, and the sound covered the breathing of the three people.
Xiao Dengqu didn’t wipe her lips. A bright red bead of bl00d formed on the wound. “Cousin, did you see wrong? I remember, when you brought the teacher to my house, I also misunderstood that you two were kissing on the balcony.”
Cheng Jin was so angry. So that’s why she felt that Xiao Dengqu was acting strange. “Xiao Dengqu, how old are you?”
“Does age have anything to do with this? Shouldn’t you apologize to me for seeing wrong?” Xiao Dengqu tilted her head. “Cousin, you’re making the teacher and I feel very embarrassed.”
Shi Mingyue’s face was flushed.
She didn’t get involved and turned to walk forward. Xiao Dengqu also followed her.
Cheng Jin had driven there. She opened the car door and let Shi Mingyue get in. Xiao Dengqu stood next to the car and didn’t move. It wasn’t safe to hail a cab now. She couldn’t just leave her on the side of the road. Cheng Jin was furious and glared at her.
Xiao Dengqu looked at her flip-flops, which had sand on them. She lowered her head, lifted her foot, and got rid of the sand. “Then I’ll just take a cab and leave. I still have a hundred yuan. You don’t have to worry about me. Just like in the museum, you can ignore me and wait for me to get killed by someone.”
“…Get in the car,” Cheng Jin said through gritted teeth.
If it were anyone else, Cheng Jin would have punched her.
Xiao Dengqu slowly got in the car. Shi Mingyue was sitting in the back, and Xiao Dengqu also sat in the back. Cheng Jin drove much more aggressively, gripping the steering wheel tightly. Her mind kept replaying the scene on the beach.
Xiao Dengqu didn’t say anything in the back. Her hands were on her knees, her posture was obedient. The corners of her lips were slightly turned up, and she licked her broken lip.
When the car stopped at the hotel, Cheng Jin said, “Mingyue, I’ll get you a separate room.”
Xiao Dengqu looked at her coldly. Shi Mingyue shook her head and said no, and then walked toward the elevator. Xiao Dengqu quickened her pace and reached out to grab Shi Mingyue’s sleeve. Shi Mingyue sped up. Xiao Dengqu said, “Teacher, are we still going to review our lessons tonight?”
Xiao Dengqu looked back at Cheng Jin.
See, even when we fight, we still hold hands and go home.
Now Xiao Dengqu was finally happy. She hated her cousin. She always felt that her cousin would steal her teacher away.
When the door opened, Shi Mingyue immediately shook her hand off.
Xiao Dengqu was a little angry, but Shi Mingyue wouldn’t talk to her. She tried to talk to Shi Mingyue, but Shi Mingyue went to her previous room and slammed the door shut, wanting to sleep in a separate bed from Xiao Dengqu.
Xiao Dengqu started to feel bad.
The teacher was actually acting like this.
Xiao Dengqu licked her scabbing lip.
It was okay. Her cousin definitely couldn’t sleep now.
Shi Mingyue couldn’t sleep in the room. She was angry. Her heart rate hadn’t slowed down. She was scared by Xiao Dengqu and felt a strange sense of possessiveness. It was so strong that she couldn’t escape it. She felt suffocated.
It wasn’t just Shi Mingyue who was tossing and turning tonight; it was also Cheng Jin. She couldn’t forget the scene on the beach. She had stood there for a long time and watched it clearly. The reason she didn’t expose it was… she didn’t dare to.
What on earth happened during this time?
Xiao Dengqu was a true psycho.
A message came in on her phone.
Xiao Dengqu: Cousin, who’s to blame if your skills aren’t good enough?
“Cousin, the teacher and I are in love. Please respect us.”
Xiao Dengqu’s voice was low. She even put her and Shi Mingyue in a doghouse together, let the most ferocious hunting dog in, and then asked her, “Do you want to live, or do you want the teacher?”
Xiao Dengqu smiled, her face magnified in front of her.
Cheng Jin’s eyes shot open. She was drenched in a cold sweat. She stared at the ceiling for a long time before she calmed down. She picked up her phone. Thankfully, Xiao Dengqu hadn’t sent her any messages. Cheng Jin sent a message to Shi Mingyue: Mingyue, if you’re unhappy with the tutoring, tell me.
After sending the message, Cheng Jin squinted and saw that the opposite side’s status changed to “is typing.” Cheng Jin: Not sleeping?
Shi Mingyue: It’s nothing. You did see wrong.
Cheng Jin typed a long message that she couldn’t even understand herself. Shi Mingyue: Get some rest. I’ll treat you to dinner when I get paid.
The next morning.
Xiao Dengqu was reading a book in the living room.
Shi Mingyue had made arrangements in her heart last night. A large portion of their time together had passed. Ending the tutoring job was impossible because of the contract. It would end after this month.
After Shi Mingyue rationally analyzed the situation, she asked the housekeeper about the plane tickets. The housekeeper booked them for the afternoon.
Shi Mingyue replied “okay” and went to pack her suitcase.
Shi Mingyue asked the hotel service to bring the changed clothes over. Her underwear was neatly folded on the balcony. When Shi Mingyue was busy, Xiao Dengqu came over to her. Shi Mingyue ignored her with a cold face.
Xiao Dengqu tried to coax her. Don’t be mad.
Shi Mingyue still ignored her. Xiao Dengqu could only dejectedly take her book and go back.
“Teacher, what do you think I should do in the future? I don’t have any dreams.”
Shi Mingyue didn’t respond, but she continued to talk. In a way, Xiao Dengqu was quite smart. She knew that their relationship was maintained through studying. Shi Mingyue had a responsibility to her. No matter how big their conflict was, Shi Mingyue wouldn’t really ignore her.
“It’s true.” Xiao Dengqu lay on the sofa with her legs crossed. Shi Mingyue said, “Didn’t you want to be a doctor?”
“Oh…” Xiao Dengqu had forgotten about that. “Okay, but you’re always ignoring me, and it’s making me angry.”
Shi Mingyue said, “Then you should hurry up and forgive yourself.”
In the afternoon, the housekeeper would send a car to pick them up for the airport. Shi Mingyue didn’t plan to go out during the day, so she wouldn’t be late and miss their flight. After Shi Mingyue packed her things, it started to rain outside.
The rain and wind came together by the sea. Shi Mingyue went down with her ID to check out. In the lobby, she could hear the sound of the strong waves.
Shi Mingyue turned around and ran into Fu Wanxing.
Fu Wanxing had just come back from outside and was wearing a bikini. Shi Mingyue took back her and Xiao Dengqu’s IDs and was about to walk past her. Fu Wanxing walked straight toward her and said, “You’re really stupid. You’re such a hero, thinking she’s a little white rabbit. Don’t be so naive. You think you have what it takes to save the princess from the ivory tower.”
Shi Mingyue ignored her and tried to walk away. Fu Wanxing reached out and stopped her. “Do you know how she bullied me when we were kids?”
Shi Mingyue said, “No.”
Fu Wanxing said, “Nobody wanted to play with her back then, so I was nice and played with her. She locked me in the doghouse just because I became friends with someone else.”
Shi Mingyue was silent. Fu Wanxing’s expression was ugly and humiliated. She clearly didn’t want to talk about it. Fu Wanxing gritted her teeth and said, “I’m just being nice and warning you. Don’t be fooled by her…”
Shi Mingyue’s expression was calm. “She’s been very good to me. She often gives me little gifts. I’m her tutor. I know her very well. If you don’t mess with her, she won’t even bother with you.”
“What about when you don’t have time to play with her?” Fu Wanxing retorted. “Once you stop playing with her, she’ll torture you to death.”
Shi Mingyue looked at her from the side. She wasn’t scared; she was thinking. What would happen to Xiao Dengqu after she left?
Before Shi Mingyue made a decision, she would make a detailed plan. Xiao Dengqu wasn’t in her future plans. She didn’t like to deviate from her preset path. If she ended her tutoring relationship with Xiao Dengqu, Xiao Dengqu would definitely be sad.
But… she was an adult now. She should be able to get over it. She was just a short-term visitor in Xiao Dengqu’s life.
Just like when she went to college, her mom actually wanted her to be close so she could visit her often. The first time her mom took her to the bus station, she kept wiping away tears. Shi Mingyue carried her suitcase and didn’t say anything or look back. But when the train drove far away and stopped at the next station, she looked out the window. Her tears were bitter, and she felt uncomfortable.
Shi Mingyue knew that she had to leave. Her mom made her feel pain, made her feel bad, and made her fall into a self-inflicted anxiety, into an abyss where she could never see the light.
She had to escape.
Even if she was reluctant and even if she wiped away tears, she had to leave.
Shi Mingyue was silent for too long. Fu Wanxing thought she believed her and said, “You should think it through yourself. Her mind is messed up, and her family is rich. It’s easy for her to mess with you…”
Shi Mingyue said, “I have my own thoughts. Do you always talk to people like this? Why are you trying to save me?”
Fu Wanxing’s face tightened. She became irritable because Shi Mingyue didn’t listen to her. “My kindness is being repaid with ingratitude. You can just wait for her to torture you.”
After saying that, Fu Wanxing still wasn’t satisfied. She whispered two more words: “pauper” and “bad luck.” Who would try to save her?
Fu Wanxing left in a huff, her footsteps quick.
Fu Wanxing brushed past her, making Shi Mingyue take a few steps back. Fu Wanxing: “You went to a good university, but you’re a fool. How amazing. Being poor really has its limitations.”
Fu Wanxing wasn’t satisfied. She went to the hotel pool and swam a lap. She looked up, wiped her face, and saw Xiao Dengqu squatting on the edge of the pool watching her. Xiao Dengqu’s eyes were wide, and there was a smile in them.
Xiao Dengqu asked her, “Are you swimming?”
Fu Wanxing grabbed a towel to wipe her face and was about to get up by grabbing the handrail. Xiao Dengqu stood up with her. Suddenly, she kicked her into the pool. It was so fast that Fu Wanxing’s brain had just formed the thought of avoiding her and ignoring her. Her body fell backward into the pool. She screamed and scrambled to get up, angrily cursing her, “Are you crazy?”
“I never told anyone about what happened when we were kids. I kept my promise, right?” Xiao Dengqu was very pleased with her behavior and nodded in self-praise. Then she looked at her in confusion. “Then why did you lie? Why did you talk bad about my teacher?”
Fu Wanxing shivered.
It wasn’t from the cold. It was from Xiao Dengqu staring at her. Xiao Dengqu said, “You’re not being good. I hate you for that.”
When they were kids, her uncle sent Xiao Dengqu to their house for vacation. Fu Wanxing had a Rottweiler. At that time, she loved this dog and would often sneak it out to play. Then the Rottweiler accidentally bit Xiao Dengqu, who was eating a peach in the yard. She had many long, bloody scratches on her thigh and arm.
Fu Wanxing was afraid of being scolded by the adults and of Xiao Dengqu’s family making a fuss. At that time, she had heard that Xiao Dengqu’s aunt had passed away early, and her uncle doted on Xiao Dengqu. Xiao Dengqu’s princess dresses were much more expensive than hers. She told Xiao Dengqu not to say anything, and she would be her good friend.
Xiao Dengqu was bleeding a lot at that time. The peach in her hand was also covered in bl00d. She was about to cry, but her tears were held back. She asked, “Are you really going to play with me?”
Fu Wanxing nodded in a hurry. Xiao Dengqu then asked what to do if the dog bit her. She was still bleeding, and it hurt a lot. Fu Wanxing made up a reason and said that the Rottweiler just wanted to play with her. Xiao Dengqu believed her. Fu Wanxing found a first-aid kit from her house and gave her a simple treatment. For the next few days, she told Xiao Dengqu not to go out and play. The two of them would read fairy tale books in Fu Wanxing’s room. Every time Xiao Dengqu wanted to go out, she would lie to her and tell her to stay inside.
At first, Fu Wanxing thought Xiao Dengqu was a good person. She listened to everything she said and was very loyal. She didn’t even tell anyone about her festering wounds. Fu Wanxing was a little happy playing with her. Later, when Xiao Dengqu’s legs scabbed over, she could wear a dress to cover them so no one would see them. Fu Wanxing got tired of staying inside and wanted to play with her other cousins. She would sneak out. Later, Xiao Dengqu used a piece of bubblegum paper to cover the new flesh on her arm and ran out to follow her. She was always clinging to her, and Fu Wanxing started to hate this hanger-on. Fu Wanxing thought she was annoying and they would argue.
One time, Fu Wanxing was secretly fishing with her cousins. When she came back, she heard the adults saying that Xiao Dengqu was lying on the ground, growling at the Rottweiler, and baring her teeth at it. Everyone would tell her to stop at first, but she would just smile and say it was fun.
After a while, everyone would secretly talk about her, saying that she had a problem and that she was a fool for acting like a dog.
“Maybe she didn’t have a mother to teach her and was spoiled. She must have a mental problem.” Fu Wanxing knew the reason, but she went along with what everyone was saying. If the Rottweiler bit Xiao Dengqu a few more times, it wouldn’t have anything to do with her.
That night, Xiao Dengqu came to her with a peach to play. She put all the books Xiao Dengqu had left in her room outside the door. She didn’t return some of the expensive toys. Fu Wanxing secretly watched for a few days. Xiao Dengqu didn’t ask for them back. She only played with the dog every day.
But when Fu Wanxing went to play with the Rottweiler again, she didn’t know what was wrong with the dog. It started barking at her, its owner. And then Xiao Dengqu locked her in the doghouse.
Xiao Dengqu squatted at the entrance of the doghouse and watched her cry and tremble. She said, “Is this how you want to play with me?”
Fu Wanxing curled her lips. “What are you pretending for? You didn’t tell your dad? Later, I heard from my dad that your dad apologized on the surface, but he immediately withdrew his investment.”
When Xiao Dengqu’s dad took her away, Xiao Dengqu was bouncing and happy. She said, “Dad, do you know? This is so much fun.”
Xiao Dengqu had scared everyone. In private, they would call her a little psycho. Fu Wanxing was so scared that she got sick and lay in bed shivering. It was a lot of fun, alright. She had been treated like a dog and played with by Xiao Dengqu…
“You psycho, you b1tch,” Fu Wanxing cursed. “What are you pretending to be so noble for? Don’t think I don’t know what kind of relationship you two have. You’re lesbians, disgusting, psychos.”
“No,” Xiao Dengqu corrected her. “The teacher said I’m not a psycho. But… I don’t know if I’m a b1tch. I’ll have to ask the teacher.”
“Your dad is a big psycho, and you’re a little psycho.” Fu Wanxing spat out the water in her mouth and tried to climb out from another spot.
Xiao Dengqu said, “It has nothing to do with my dad. You have to apologize to my teacher, okay?” Xiao Dengqu stared at her. “You didn’t apologize last time. And now I’m leaving. Why are you still so impolite?”
Xiao Dengqu knelt at the edge of the pool and forcefully held her head down. It was hard. She moved under the water. Fu Wanxing’s eyes were red, and water kept rushing into her nostrils. Her throat was blocked, and she couldn’t make a sound. On the rippling water, Xiao Dengqu’s smiling face was magnified and distorted. Xiao Dengqu’s eyes were wide with a smile, and her lips were tight, showing a fierce look. “Don’t bully the teacher.”
Fu Wanxing was on the verge of passing out from choking. Xiao Dengqu finally let go gracefully. Fu Wanxing instinctively tried to climb up. When she glared at her to fight back, Xiao Dengqu pushed her down again. When Fu Wanxing surfaced again, her face was red from coughing. It was difficult for her to speak, and she had no more strength left.
“Go tell your mom and dad. Anyway, I’m mentally ill. What can they do to me even if they find out?” Xiao Dengqu was kneeling, her hands propped on the edge of the pool. A dog-like vibration came from her throat, and then she opened her mouth and said, “Woof!”
Fu Wanxing almost went limp from fear. Xiao Dengqu “giggled.” She stood up, saw that her legs were wet, and used Fu Wanxing’s towel to dry them. She politely said to her, “Thank you for the towel, little cousin.”
In this state, it was as if she had never grown up. She was still that crazy girl from that summer. When the adults took her away, she happily said, “That was so much fun.”
Xiao Dengqu gave the towel back to her and said, “You were so scared back then that you even ate dog poop. I’ll tell your mom and dad, and all your friends, and your future lover.”
“You have to apologize to the teacher,” Xiao Dengqu said to herself, heavily adding this sentence at the end.
…
Shi Mingyue had finished the check-out procedures. She didn’t see Xiao Dengqu upstairs, so she brought her suitcase to the living room first.
She was about to send a message to Xiao Dengqu when a boy walked up to her. He was holding a new iPhone with a trendy case. He was a rich kid. The boy said, “Are you going back? Let’s exchange WeChat. Our schools are pretty close.”
Shi Mingyue shook her head. The boy said that he had noticed her before. Shi Mingyue didn’t respond, as if she hadn’t heard him.
“She has a girlfriend,” Xiao Dengqu said, walking over from the side door. She was wet, and her smiling eyes were gloomy.
“Huh?” The boy was stunned.
Xiao Dengqu said, “We’re a couple.”
The boy heard her say this and thought she was just covering for Shi Mingyue. He laughed and said, “Aren’t you two a tutor and a student?”
“It’s a student-teacher relationship,” Xiao Dengqu said. “The secret kind.”
The boy was hesitant. “No way.”
Xiao Dengqu: “Right, teacher?”
Shi Mingyue was about to explain, but she saw that her clean clothes were dripping wet. She asked, “Where did you go?”
As she spoke, there was a curse from the lobby. Fu Wanxing rushed over from the pool next to them, her hair disheveled, shouting, “Xiao Dengqu, you psycho! You’re just a filthy sewer rat! You were a psycho when you were a kid, and you’re an even bigger psycho now!”
Shi Mingyue looked at Fu Wanxing. Fu Wanxing was also wet. It wasn’t hard to guess that she was the one who got Xiao Dengqu wet. Shi Mingyue frowned and said, “Fu Wanxing, aren’t you going too far?”
“I’m going too far? Do you know that she…” Fu Wanxing choked up. She met Xiao Dengqu’s gaze. Xiao Dengqu was tilting her head and looking at her.
Shi Mingyue had always thought that rich families had excellent manners, but Fu Wanxing was an exception. She insulted people all the time and never learned her lesson. Even Xiao Dengqu knew how to apologize.
“Apologize!” Shi Mingyue said.
Xiao Dengqu didn’t struggle and instinctively opened her mouth. “Okay, I’m so…”
Before she could finish, Shi Mingyue pulled her behind her. She asked Fu Wanxing, “Did your dog bite Xiao Dengqu?”
Fu Wanxing was also stunned. Was she being told to apologize?
She hadn’t expected Xiao Dengqu to have really not told anyone. She started to panic.
Xiao Dengqu looked at Shi Mingyue in surprise. She was puzzled. Was she not supposed to apologize?
Shi Mingyue said, “I’m guessing. She never told me, but it looks like it’s true.”
At first, Shi Mingyue thought the scar on Xiao Dengqu’s leg was related to her mother’s death. She was just testing the waters.
Shi Mingyue’s tone was cold and hard as she questioned her, “You only said she locked you up, but why didn’t you say your dog bit her? Her scar is so deep. Such a beautiful person has such a scar. And, the wound was so deep, didn’t it hurt her? Didn’t she feel bad? A small child feels a lot of pain even from a small wound. Since the wound isn’t on you, you can’t feel it, can you? Shouldn’t you apologize? You even made her get called a psycho. Is there something wrong with your character?”
Xiao Dengqu stood behind her and looked at Shi Mingyue’s back. Her dark hair was hanging down. She couldn’t imagine herself standing behind the thin and poor Shi Mingyue and not having to explain herself. She tilted her head, wanting to see Shi Mingyue’s face.
“Why should I apologize? It was her…” Fu Wanxing’s confidence wavered.
Xiao Dengqu also didn’t understand. She always apologized. Being a good child meant admitting your mistakes. Her dad said so, and the teacher also said so. Of course, no good child had ever apologized to her.
Why? Why didn’t she have to apologize? And, even though the teacher wasn’t there, she knew that she was in a lot of pain back then!
How strange, and a little happy.
“She’s a sewer rat, right? A sewer rat. You’ve always called her that. What right do you have? Is your name more noble than hers? Doesn’t her name have a beautiful meaning?” Shi Mingyue said angrily to Fu Wanxing. Xiao Dengqu’s eyes became even brighter, almost shocked. Wasn’t she a sewer rat?!
“Apologize! Even if it was a game you played as a child, when the game started, she followed the rules, and you didn’t. You should apologize!”
Shi Mingyue held her phone and said, “I’m going to send a message to your cousin now and have her come over. People need to know the truth. Is she going to be wronged forever?”
“Apologize to her right now!”
